Has anyone notice how bad the pixel resolution is on the note 2 . When I download apps from the play store and I get the icon on my screen it looks so ugly not crispy at all . Kinda bugss me makes me feel like I got fake apps or something . Let me know what you all think ..

I think this has to do with the icon being lower resolution. This is the fault of two things. 1 is that the Galaxy Note 2 is high resolution. 2 is that many graphics within apps, including icons get enlarged by the 5.5" screen. With most tablets there is a different icon graphic that is higher resolution than the "Smartphone" icon graphic. You are seeing the "Smartphone" icon graphic on this 5.5" screen. This icon graphic was designed to be for smaller screens. Hopefully this will get better as developers design "Smartphone" icon graphics for larger screens.
This effect is like seeing lower resolution video and graphics on your very high resolution HD very larger screen TV or monitor. This is the downside of using larger, higher resolution screens. And this is only going to get worse on lower resolution videos and graphics with higher resolution larger screens.

One of the things you can do is use a different Home Launcher. The choose to have more columns and rows on your desktop and app drawer. This will smaller the size of the icons to the point that they become less pixelated. Some Launchers will allow you to resize the icons too. Either way resizing the icons to smaller size should solve the pixelated icons problem.
I personally like the adding more columns and rows because that utilizes the screen real-estate to with more icons.
Some favorite Home Launchers are:
Nova Launcher Prime
ADWLauncher EX
Apex Launcher Pro
Go Launcher EX
Nova Launcher (free version)
Apex Launcher (free version)

Ok to the reply that says I dont have a note please check where the post is being post from it says right below what im using..to others thanks for your opinions I guess it is the note thats too much of a high resolution for some apps . I know the s3 has higher pixels and a smaller screen so everything looks crispier thats what I meant. Hate to admit but just being picky on little details. Another question does anyone have issues with theyre micro usb charger mine falls of the phone on its own weird.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I wouldn't say it's terrible, but the quality is noticeable if comparing.
The note2 has the same res as the S3, both 720x1280, so lower ppi (267) bc of the larger screen.
Coming from the GNexus (316) ppi, I def notice it. Same next to a nexus4 (320ppi) with 768 x1280. For comparison, the iphone5 and 4S are 326ppi. The droid dna is a ridic 441ppi (1920x1080).. But haven't seen it in person yet.

Yes it is noticeable glad you can see it. But by all means the note is hands down one of the best phones ive had coming from an iphone 4s and a galaxy s prior to that. Would anyone downgrade to the s3 ?? Just out of curiosity .

Yeah I've noticed it too coming from a galaxy nexus. Text and icons could definitely be sharper but it's still a pretty awesome screen. I think if you had a rom that could change the dpi, it might improve things.

There was a review, not sure who wrote it but it did state that some icons did look a little old on this display. I can understand. You have this beautiful HD background and some apps icons look out of place, like the were made with a dot matrix printer.

i wish the display on the GN2 was like on the iPhone 5 or even iPhone 4/4s, the icons on those phones are CRISP and perfect. I like the GN2 of course but i wish it had the ability to do 6x6 grid without messing around with DPI in builprop because then others apps get effected too...plus would like to do this WITHOUT a launcher.

Meh .... played with a Nexus for a while yesterday because I really wanted a larger screen however the Nexus screen is actually "smaller" then the T989 in the end because a big chunk of it is dedicated to the usual capacitive buttons. The "HD" does look nice though but that even makes fonts and icons smaller (but sharper) and for me I need larger. All in all not very impressive, at least not impressive enough to sell this and buy the the Intern'l Nexus. Considering that the T989 will get ICS one way or the other that's good enough for me.

if you look close on our phone, u will see pixelation which bother the hell out of me, and in low brightness mode there is blob and weird artifact on the screen, which has been reported by other user, not a problem for me since i rarely go low anyway, but the fact that it's a 500-600 device kinda bother me. i really wish we could get the international GS2 for tmobile, if thats the case than i wouldnt care about galaxy nexus at all.

The reason I need a larger font/icons is because if they are too small I don't see them well. At my age vision is the 2nd thing to go. I see no pixelation even if it is there.
it has nothing to do with hardware and EVERYTHING to do with software. I believe when we get CM9 running on our device it will be better then the nexus. Only complaint I have about our phone is the resolution.

Well 4.3 screen are easily best size for 800x480 I recall someone said once wvga screen are stretch beyond that point pixelization starts appearing up. The fact that it isn't super amoled plus bothers me. I don't know of you played with a droid razor but at angles the screen has a greenish tint. It is on the galaxy note as well. But it's probably much harder to see because of the screen size.

If the sg2 HD was available I would get that instead of nexus. The hi rez screen alone was reason enough for me to pick up the nexus. I also like the fact that its a straight up Google phone, I like to get updates first.
I'm sure 3-4 months from now sg2 HD will be released in US and shortly after sg3 will be released overseas. I will be content with the nexus until a quad comes. I stuck with nexus s and then got a g2x, only to be replaced by the nexus.
My wife has sg2 but my nexus looks better.

I think the contour display is a plus. HD screen is a plus, ICS is a plus, instant shutter is a plus, no capacitive buttons is a plus, the fact that its a vanilla is a plus. I love nexus phones and they have their cons just like any phone, just find what YOU like and leave it at that. If you don't want it, don't get it and everyone is happy
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?

sources seem to be all over the place, but from what i've seen it's basically SAMOLED+. whatever it is, it's an improvement over the pentile arrangement in the Nexus/SGSIII.

I was thinking about the battery life.. ugh but I love the htc one's build quality soo much!!! the note 2 with the same materials as htc one...OMG..it be a dream come true!!
It's a matter of personal taste...if you ever dreamed of an iphone-like device running Android, you're not bothered by the fact that the phone is sealed, doesn't have microSD slot and removable battery and 32GB of local storage are enough, HTC One seems to be the obvious choice. If you enjoy taking your phone apart or fixing it yourself for cheap if it gets damaged, like to have several days worth of battery life as an option and have a considerably sized media library you want to have with you then Note 2 is the way to go.
Galaxy S4 will be missing the support for smart stylus as well, some people welcome the functionality of it and I can't really think of any other phones on the market that would come close to the functionality and precision of the Galaxy Note 2 Stylus. As a galaxy note 2 owner I'm not sold on switching to the HTC One mainly because the most important new features it brings (1080p screen, improved camera, infra red sensor) are not enough to convince me.
Also HTC One is using the Adreno 320 GPU which although really fast right now will become dated sooner than most would believe, after Tegra 4 and the new generation mobile GPUs will hit the market a few months later. I know that not only I will skip the HTC One but also the Galaxy S4...I want to see what the Galaxy Note 3 brings new to the table, I'm pretty damn satisfied with my Note 2 so far.

There is a sticky for this
Hey guys I'm on AT&T and am looking at trading my s4.. So I'm just wondering if anybody has made the switch to the OGP from the s4 and what your thoughts were?
I had s3, upgraded to s4, then after 3 days I returned it for OGP PRO and was so happy that I made the right decision!!
Battery is awesome, super clean and super smooth lag free UI, much more customizable, display is so gorgeous, it comes with 32gb storage..too many to mention just look it yourself
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
I have both and the OGP has more useful features like swipable tabs in phone and settings, remote in notification can be easily turned on and off without going into the remote app, setting can be either tab or list, better looking weather widgets, more accurate color reproduction. I had both phone's brightness turned all way up and the white on OGP is actually white while the S4 has a tannish tint to it, landscrape home launcher. Wider brightness setting. The dimmest on S4 is still too bright in totally dark room. New update has dual camera option to take pictures of subject and yourself.
S4 has too many useless eye candy apps like air gesture, smart scroll. they don't work half of the time and only on certain apps. S4 does have more support as far as modifying. OGP barely scratch the surface as far as modding goes.
Yeah basically I would do root to remove the bloat.. I can't stand the s4 without a tweaked touchwiz ROM... Im just thinking for the most part I'll be happier with the lg stock rooted than the s4... I had the note 2 though and it was a little too wide hence me going with the s4 and I think that's the biggest thing I'm hesitant about on the OGP is it may be a little too wide for one handed operation like the note 2
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
When I tried it in the store it didn't seem too bad but neither did the note 2 till I got it home and used it for a bit

The OG Pro is definitely easier to hold in hand than the Note.
I came from the S4 and the UI on LG is snappier stock.
For some reason, I'm debating on going back though lol
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
Note 2 dimensions: 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm (5.95 x 3.17 x 0.37 in)
Optimus G Pro dimensions: 150.2 x 76.1 x 9.4 mm (5.91 x 3.00 x 0.37 in)
The G Pro is physically smaller, and despite the seemingly minor differences in size, it is much easier to hold and use.
I had the S4 which IS a great phone, but I LOVE my LG-OGP!
I filled the built in 16g on the S4, cant beat the 32g on the OGP plus my added 32SD.
The display reproduces much better, whites are white, details are more noticable, just all around looks better.
The physical layout of the buttons on the OGP are very well designed, they sit a little lower which is easier for one handed use, and you cant lose with the dedicated programmable button!
The UI also seems quicker!
Built in wireless charging.
Obviously more screen space, nice for everything like surfing and games.
I to came from the s4 after using it for three days. The OG Pro is by far a better phone all around. The quick remote is better than the s4 as well. Have not regretted my decision switching at all.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda premium
Just a couple more reasons..
The fact you can change the Quick button to a dedicated camera button, change icons, glowing led home button for notifications...WIN

Yes i still have both s4 and gpro apart from eyecandy features if you wanna use pure camera for staright forward. Pictures then ogpro is ur investment crystal clear pics compared s4. S4 any mode u take pics lags saying processing. Ogp is just click click.. battery life i don't need to say all though s4 is a single handes use so is the ogp with little gymnastics. But gpro is a defnite winner. .. loving it

...and what is the biggest trade-off if we'd switch? Aside from the fact that Samsung (in a way) constantly gives fw updates on their devices.
Sorry guys, on the crossroad here
One of my biggest gripes with the s4 is wakelocks.. 1 hour and 7 minutes since unplugged and I'm at 47 mins of kernel wakelocks.. Most of that being fast dormancy

S4 camera is leaps and bounds ahead of that in G Pro?? Maybe, if you like the MSG color of the S4 screen
A co-worker of mine has the S4, and in my opinion his camera is no better then mine, he was kinda jealous of some of my camera features, like the live affects...
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??
Here are leaked images of the note 3's screen in a smaller bezel. What do you guys think? http://gigaom.com/2013/08/28/galaxy...n=Feed:+OmMalik+(GigaOM:+Tech)#readsoruce_top

Was looking forward to maybe 6in. Don't think I'll upgrade just for an increase of 0.2in in screen size.

I thought the same, but many of us came from the Galaxy Note 1 where it was the same difference, 5.3 to 5.5
Alot of it depends on screen quality difference for me, and it would have to be much better for me to pull the trigger on it

I still have the note 1 too. There was a significant difference in software, battery and performance between 1&2. There is not much on the s4 that I can't do on the note 2. I use my 2 for work and a bigger screen would be a benefit. Not saying I won't get the 3 but if the rumours hold true , in my case, there would be no benefit to upgrade. Will see what Sept 4th reveals.

this is the smart thing to do..
I grabbed a note 8.0 a couple of months ago, and it is fantastic; there was a BIG difference between the note 1 and 2, so it made it a worthwhile upgrade; going from the note 2 to the note 3 appears to be nothing more than bragging rights, about having the newest phone.
Until the Note 3 actually comes out, none of these "leaks" have any relevance to most people anyways, so we will just have to wait and see..
I'm happy with my Note 2. The same as I was with my GS2, thus skipping the 3. However, I'm excited to hear about the new software features - I want to see a photo editor that really takes advantage of the digitizer.

A 6" screen would have been nice but I thought the small jump in screen size going from the s3 to s4 wouldnt be noticeable but it is.
I am really looking fwd to sept 4 because until then we really dont know anything for sure.
I will get the 3 more than likely regardless but I wont get rid of my 2 either as its still an amazing device.

Was thinking about upgrading but I really love my Note 2. Its perfect in every way. I recently picked up a Note 8. Great tablet.
Cant wait to see whats in store as far as 4.3 and goodies from Samsung for our Note 2.
Did you see some of the comments on that article? One guy was disappointed because the screen wasn't "at least" 6.5 inches. Really? That's ridiculous.

I would be surprised if we see 4.3 on our device anytime soon. I bet it will be at least 2014 before we see it.
It makes sense from business standpoint to not upgrade the Note 2 to 4.3 while the Note 3 is out for a bit.
Same reason why the Galaxy S3 was never upgraded to 4.2. They want to heat on the S4 as long as they can.

Ya think? From what I've been reading (rumors) it seems like Samsung will be skipping 4.2 in favor of 4.3 and it sounded like its not far off. Maybe within the next couple of months. It would be nice but what you said makes sense also. I guess time will tell.
Wow that pic really shows how lame an upgrade this is. 6'' would have been the natural progression for note 3. This pic makes me feel even more disappointed.
Let's see what Htc and Sony bring to the table then... After 4 Samsung phones in a row for me they finally disappointed me :/

Well, xperia z ultra is horrendous. Great specs but very unwieldy looking. To much upper and lower bezel. One max looks interesting but buying HTC is as likely for me as buying an iPhone (not in this lifetime). Will wait and see what they show before condemning it for screen size alone.

Problem for me is that, screen size is pretty much the main thing I would like to improve over my Note 2. The multi windows or floating windows option would be much better on a slightly bigger screen not to mention other apps making it more productive using other apps that can benefit from the added size.
The Z ultra has horrible bezels but I dont mind that much. If it was not for the stupid battery I would be all over it.
HTC...well I had a Tilt 2 once..that was my only HTC so not a big fan but at least it is 6".
Then again, I probably wont have floating windows with those so is all a tough decision but looks maybe I will just keep my Note 2 for now :/

Me Too...
It depends on the CPU/RAM for me, at the moment.
1080 would be a nice increase in resolution, but if you are happy with the note 2 (as many of us are) so far, the note 3 doesn't seem like a big step up from what we got already.
That said, I've got an upgrade coming up in a couple months, on one of my lines. So I could get the note 3 on upgrade and not spend a dime.
But, we don't know the whole picture yet.
If they frack with the internals like they did on the note 1, I'm probably going to skip the note 3. Unless the north american version is top tier, and not cutting corners on slower memory or a cut back CPU, it's going to be a hard sell for note 2 owners like all of us.

You have to remember people wanting the screen to get much bigger are a minority, they have to go the way business tells them. After the looks I get with the note already I can safely say most people already consider it huge, so it makes sense they wouldn't want to push it to the point where they would lose most of their sales. We definitely represent a small minority here

Yeah, I agree with this. Most of the people that wanted a bigger screen are the ones in the rooting and modding community. Everyone else that I have met or know always say "man that's a big phone" or "that's just too big". How unfortunate.
I would have actually preferred to have the phone size reduced without the loss of the screen size, but a slight increase in the screen size with much higher resolution is not bad either. Any larger than the current size would be uncomfortable to carry around. If so, it would be better to buy the Note 8 instead!
