Galaxy Nexus Specs Vs our Galaxy S2 Specs - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So is it me or does the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have crap specs compared to our Galaxy S2? 5MP camera Vs 8MP. Slower Processor Vs Faster Processor. Yea I know it has ICS firmware and vanilla Android but who really cares? I'm not sold! How about you?

you forget to mention the screen is actually High def, their processor might not be quick on network speed but might be better for phone operation then ours, the screen is bigger (if ya care)

I debated hard about this. If you stay stock, the nexus wins, but if you don't (99% of xda readers) then s2 wins hands down. No ext SD card was a killer for me with the nexus.

Meh .... played with a Nexus for a while yesterday because I really wanted a larger screen however the Nexus screen is actually "smaller" then the T989 in the end because a big chunk of it is dedicated to the usual capacitive buttons. The "HD" does look nice though but that even makes fonts and icons smaller (but sharper) and for me I need larger. All in all not very impressive, at least not impressive enough to sell this and buy the the Intern'l Nexus. Considering that the T989 will get ICS one way or the other that's good enough for me.

if you look close on our phone, u will see pixelation which bother the hell out of me, and in low brightness mode there is blob and weird artifact on the screen, which has been reported by other user, not a problem for me since i rarely go low anyway, but the fact that it's a 500-600 device kinda bother me. i really wish we could get the international GS2 for tmobile, if thats the case than i wouldnt care about galaxy nexus at all.

The reason I need a larger font/icons is because if they are too small I don't see them well. At my age vision is the 2nd thing to go. I see no pixelation even if it is there.

it has nothing to do with hardware and EVERYTHING to do with software. I believe when we get CM9 running on our device it will be better then the nexus. Only complaint I have about our phone is the resolution.

Well 4.3 screen are easily best size for 800x480 I recall someone said once wvga screen are stretch beyond that point pixelization starts appearing up. The fact that it isn't super amoled plus bothers me. I don't know of you played with a droid razor but at angles the screen has a greenish tint. It is on the galaxy note as well. But it's probably much harder to see because of the screen size.

If the sg2 HD was available I would get that instead of nexus. The hi rez screen alone was reason enough for me to pick up the nexus. I also like the fact that its a straight up Google phone, I like to get updates first.
I'm sure 3-4 months from now sg2 HD will be released in US and shortly after sg3 will be released overseas. I will be content with the nexus until a quad comes. I stuck with nexus s and then got a g2x, only to be replaced by the nexus.
My wife has sg2 but my nexus looks better.

I like the screen and ics only... I do want to swap it out but doubt i will... s2 is thinner, external memory......
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App

I think the contour display is a plus. HD screen is a plus, ICS is a plus, instant shutter is a plus, no capacitive buttons is a plus, the fact that its a vanilla is a plus. I love nexus phones and they have their cons just like any phone, just find what YOU like and leave it at that. If you don't want it, don't get it and everyone is happy
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?

Nexus has better camera even though its 5 mp. The big negative is no external sd slot.

Yeh still got my gs2 but to me I brows the internet and watch videos a lot so screen Res was a major thing for me, also honestly the s2 looked a little like the ip4 also had that, would pic the gn over the ip4 and the gs2 any day, I also notice less issues on the forums with this phone with the gs2 it was full of buggs lucky I just had some battery drain but that was it. Get the gn its a great phone.

I have no regrets whatsoever getting the Nexus.
The higher screen resolution is a plus for me...as I like to pick the smallest fonts possible to put more info on screen.
The Nexus feels better in hand probably due to the slight curve in design.
K before the store opens I know you guys think I jumped the gun and made my decision on one comment but it seems likea war between s2 lovers vs prime lovers and you hear so many good answers just so hard to tell who is telling the truth or they are just making up ****. also wanna say is that Im not that good with phones meaning that I I'm not going to root or put custom roms on it also is it also true that the nexus won't sync up with computer but it syncs everything automatically to a cloud kinda like icloud if? I like how easy the s2 works please help I'm messed up

GS2 T989 is much better the Galaxy Nexus.

We are always going to be behind with software. This is the Google's and Manufacturer's fault. I have the Galaxy Nexus in my hand today and I had the GS2 for 2 months already there is nothing that Galaxy Nexus has that GS2 doesn't and we have to wait for this **** manufacturer's to release updates. The GS2 is faster and more conferable in hand.
If anyone has any questions ask me I'll try to answer.

I won't go as far as to say that the Galaxy S II is the better phone. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and it was great other then a couple defects I ran into. The software on the Galaxy Nexus will most likely be better then what makes its way to the GSII and the notification led on the Nexus is the best one I have seen on any phone. The Galaxy S II has a way better camera and has been a lot more reliable.
Both are great phones. Its really hard to say which one is better.
I say your essentially buying the same phone twice. Besides ics and a few other differences they are basically the same phone.

I'm sure theirs been a long thread discussing this already. Everyone feels strongly opinionated and there is no true winner. They both have pros and cons. If I HAD to choose I would go with the Nexus hands down for the fact that its a nexus phone and development will be great. ICS seems amazing and the display as well.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Oh man, you guys completely ignore the screen issue our GS2 has. If it was a good screen, had a exynos then it would be better than the nexus. International GS2 fits in that category.
Okay.. I own and love both phones and these types of threads are entirely subjective and flame prone. Holding a phone in your hand is NOT a valid explanation for why a phone is better than another. You need to have plenty of hands-on time to really know the pro's and con's of both. (And neither is immune to either.)

most of us dont even notice the issue until someone mention it(i didnt know this until i heard about it..and i always use my phone in the dark..)
Man we buy the phones for $500 to $600 and we have to cry to get some software updates thats the thing. Google shouldn't relese the update till all the major manufacturers have their updates ready as well. If it goes like this we are going to get ICS end of the year, after original Galaxy s 2 i9100 gets it then we get it and that's the question if the carriers put thirty **** in there. So we looking at till September when Google will unveil the 5.0

if you read on the i9250 forum, they too have the screen problem, and their screen is 720
other than ICS which we'll get, the only other difference is the Barometer sensor
otherwise the i9250 is actually under grade, they even got a major issue with the storage and MTP, and fake sdcard to make old Apps compatible, but even so, there are still Apps that are still not compatible

Ill take external SD support, 8mp cam over the galaxy nexus anyday. This whole the nexus is better crap is dumb all it has is ics and even ics isn't that amazing i used it on the sensation for two weeks and its really good. It adds plenty of things that are pleasant and well done now on android. The bad is apps still need to be updated but the sensation outclassed the galaxy nexus with ics as it is and once we get it this phone will be above the nexus. People buy a phone and always look for something to complain about the screen issue is annoying if you notice it but I'm hoping supercurio makes a fix for us. Either way my use isn't affected except for maybe 5% of the time and even then its just not pleasant to look at. There are a handful of phones that once they have ics will make the nexus look out dated galaxy s 2, amaze 4g, rezound, razr, etc.... development is just slowed from these phones being new and because developing gingerbread might be worthless if ics is here in a couple months.

Ha-ha that's how I felt at first too but being on my second day now it's actually pretty easy. The hardest part for me was not hitting the damn home button instead of the space bar.

I'm having that problem now currently with the SG2 haha. Second day with the phone (last phone was MT4G) and every other time when hitting the space bar I hit one of the "hard" buttons on the bottom. Slowly getting used to it though.
I will say - if the Nexus had an equal or better camera than the SG2, I would probably return this and get that instead, especially as there's supposed to be a white one coming out. But I use my phone's camera A LOT, and it's an important feature for me, so the Nexus is out right there. I don't know why they'd release a 'flagship' phone with semi out-of-date specs. With iphone 4, SG2, and many others coming out with 8 megapixels, why would Google only do 5?? Anyway...
notification led on galaxy nexus is really badass too, +1 for that
Im going to donate a tmobile galaxy s2 to the first dev that makes a fully working ics rom for t989.

Lol, well the GS2 is a vast improvement over the myTouch 4G. (I loved that phone when it first came out too, lol.)
I think the Nexus camera has a lot of software issues. It is okay but i think it will get better as Google picks up the slack. Hell they paused the latest update for reasons unknown but people have reported much better stats all around with the leaked 4.0.3 that has been lurking around. I truly believe people make a bigger deal than what is necessary about both of these phones. Why try to argue one over the other? They are both great! As i said previously, both have pro's and con's but i think either or should be enough to satisfy the vast majority of users.

NO BIAS: the G nexus vs G S2

I gave my wife my old Nexus One. Recently she dropped it and cracked the screen, badly. The phone still works as well as the touch.
But if I were to get her a new phone as a gift, which one would be a better choice nowadays?
STOP POSTING THESE THREADS AND READ THE OTHERS, please.
Buy a Galaxy Nexus, you won't be disappointed.
Give her your phone and get yourself a Nexus
Galaxy Nexus
or possibly Galaxy Note if a larger phone is preferable
I own a galaxy nexus and i have no complaints whatsoever....like...at all.
But if you don't already own the galaxy nexus...i would get the galaxy s III...its rumored to have a quad core exynos processor and IMO get that...its a newer phone and probably the same price.
@people getting annoyed at these threads - this is a FORUM...for people to post questions and comments...if you don't like it don't comment and clutter the thread with useless posts.
Imo galaxy nexus is better in every possible way, but I think s2 has better design. More professional look

Since this is the gn forum then most will blindly suggest the gn.
Assuming your wife is not a techy person (u gave her an old nexus one), i think the gs2 would suite her better. Better camera (women love taking pictures right) and sd card support (for even more pics and media) and now has official ics.

S2 has better design?? When it comes to phones, nothings says "sexy beautiful" better than a curved screen.
If you want the "professional look" get something with a physical keyboard.
i'd say S2 out of the box is more user friendly to ladies
not everyone knwows how to appreciate vanilla android
speaking from personal experience, i bought her a new Gnex for her and i use her S2
well, i have always prefer older phone as the dev is better and more rom to choose from (i was a super vibrant user)
less than 2 weeks, she wanted her S2 back and gave me back my Gnex. LOL
she think S2 is more user friendly and has better quality pix
Barring the screen, which is almost as good as the Gnex, I would say SGS 2, as it is miles better than the nexus. SGS 2 is a lot faster.
Camera on Nexus isn't really good enough for a phone, SGS2 Camera is miles better.
SGS 2 is an 9/10 phone, the nexus is a 7/10 phone.

The way we think about our nexus

When a new phone comes we all wonder, man the new htc is what I want and it has better camera, and the gps is amazing and SIRI wannabe, quad core exynos and 1080p super amoled +(this would be too much lol) ... I just want you guys to remember the we live in the best years of our lives and we don't appreciate it sometimes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Now I can say for myself that I still think galaxy nexus is the best phone in the market even tho s voice and quad core is coming out, I don't really needed and I think I won't use it(had Siri for 6 months and didn't use it much ) and I hope this help for people that always think about the next big thing.
You're right... we do live in the best years of our lives.... but its also made us too reliant on technology and a bunch of spoiled brats...
I was around for all those things he spoke of in the Video and can relate... but I guess everything is relative to every generation... Each one more spoiled then the previous.
Guess in 30 years when our cars fly themselves this generation would be like "Damn, we used to drive, uphill, bothways, on a paved road!"
Lol
Lol. This was great.

Louis is amazing, thanks for the post lol
but yeah, people expect so much and are quick to dismiss something great based off one thing they aren't attracted to... kind of sad but that's the way the world works now, its only the few that can appreciate something's significance and the rest just complain that it isn't good enough.
We gotta hand it to the 2nd group of people though, the ones who are never happy are the ones innovating and providing the rest of us with cooler things although I believe everyone should appreciate everything regardless

The fit and finish is amazing and the screen is gorgeous... looks a bit better than my GSM nexus and the look of the device was nicer as well. Too bad the rest of the experience let me down. What's the point in all that beauty and horsepower when the function of the phone doesn't respond in kind? I'd love for the next nexus to be a bit more pretty in design but this thing just works. The major failure in android so far is that manufacturer customization so far has mostly detracted from the function of the phone compared to stock. The galaxy nexus, in GSM form at least is still the high bar other android phones need to measure against. I love this phone. For that, I don't think I'll have a real choice in the future between a nexus and any others. Unless a non nexus gets true stock android there will probably be something letting it down. I think the one x or others could be as good or better overall than this phone if they had just included some phone specific apps to differenciate and left everything else stock and unlocked.
Before anyone says to just put on cm or other aosp on those other devices, unless they are unlocked and have drivers available, they tend to have things missing or unstable when going stock android.

It hit me the other day that I've actually had this phone for almost half a year. It still feels brand new to me, and I marvel at how fresh it still feels with minimal maintenance.
My GS1, Desire HD, and Focus never quite ticked all the boxes, and I had to jump through hoops to get them to operate how I wanted then to. My one and only wish is for the next Nexus to be Note-sized (I pretty much only read books on my phone now). That's not happening, so I'm as pleased with the Nexus as I'll ever be with a phone.

People buy these new phones with the intention of rooting and running a vanilla rom. We have it right outta the box. No limitations. Galaxy nexus is sonning all other phones. Screw hardware. That software...ftw

What do the galaxy nexus owners think of the nexus 4?

Specs look great, but no late, and base mod comes at 8 gig storage. My lte 32 gig actually still looks good

QFT
Thinking about it 350$ is great I would get 8 but no expandable storage I may pick one up if the battery is great and reviews are positive then I'll sell my galaxy nexus

Honestly not bad at all, but except CPU changes and induction charging, what are the better points compared to the GNEX ?
Unless a Verizon version launches later (like always seems to happen with Sprint Nexus devices), I'll be hanging onto my LTE Gnex until the next Nexus comes out late next year. I like my LTE, I like 32 GB of storage, and let's face it, Verizon has the best network in the country. That's pretty much indisputable.
Eh. I'm sorry, but after getting 4G LTE on my nexus I will not buy another phone without it. I'll get 4.2 on my current nexus and that will hold me over until a better device comes out. I really kinda hate LG. . .
The new device looks awesome. I think I'm jealous of the camera and new version of Android. Oh yeah. And that quad core S4. Lol. We still have a cool phone. We will have 4.2 soon enough.

Other than the big brother spec bump, bringing nexus hardware back to relevancy, Lifespan, is probably the main, albeit undersold, reward in buying the new nexus. Will the gnex still be adequate by the time nexus 5 rolls around? Maybe. But whatever the life of this phone, the 4 will far exceed it. And longevity is one of the key reasons Joe phone user purchases the nexus.

Amen to that.
Right now I'm going stir crazy without a 10" tablet! I sold my old Nexus S and my LTE Motorola Xoom so I could have the cash to buy a Nexus 10. Since they aren't available until November 13, I'm going to go crazy without it! That Nexus 7 is great for reading in bed, but for doing anything productive, I needs me a 10" tablet. My laptop is going to get more use the next two weeks than it has in 2 months!
There's no comparison. Not even close. N4 is the best spec'd phone available on almost every component and costs the same as the Galaxy Nexus. If you bought a GN in the last 29 days, return it immediately. With all that said, the Galaxy Nexus is still an excellent phone.

I'd almost rather have a Galaxy Nexus for the Super AMOLED screen alone. Given the choice between LED or IPS, I'm taking LED any day of the week.

That is basically always the point. Also, considering the nexus s still gets updates I doubt we will stop getting them for a while. Also, the galaxy nexus can play whatever games I want it to, and it has the same GPU as the nexus s ( I am talking nova 3 , NBA 2k13( which stutters a little bit), and dead trigger on high).

I'll wait until I see the screen to decide that. After two Samsung Nexus in a row I'm ready for someone else and even a different screen tech.
The camera will be the main selling point for me. Absolutely love my GNex, but I find it funny whenever I see apologists try to act as if the camera isn't sub par.
Wireless charging, even though I like it, is only a gimmick (much like the curved screen of the GNex to be fair).
I have no plans on upgrading; that being said I also don't have insurance on my phone. If I had to replace it, I'd definitely spring for the N4 if I was going brand new instead of eBay/ CL.

Yeah. I'm just comparing between the LED screen on the Galaxy Nexus and the IPS display on the Nexus 7. That IPS display is no slouch, but it's no LED.
Unless my gnex breaks, Ill wait, however I'm sure others are very excited about this device. Its definitely a deal. Quad core s4 for the price of the gnex u bought from the play store yesterday
Being on prepaid wireless, I couldnt give two ***** about LTE. Gnex in NYC gets over 10mbps down on tmobiles network.

Uh, the Nexus S doesn't have a GPU that's even close to the one in the Gnex.

Really? I was pretty sure it was the same exact GPU but clocked slower

My galaxy nexuses dismay hurts my eyes a little bit after a while of use. Although the nexus 7s screen is definitely washed out, it looks much sharper to me
