Hello everyone!
I just received my Samsung S Pen Holder Kit. It arrived with a stylus that looks to be made for the Galaxy note S3.
The seller on ebay stated that it is fine to use on GN 10.1. It has, or what looks to be a nylon tip and the instructions state that it is non-replaceable.
It works and responds great and the Stylus button responds as well.
My question is, will this tip cause problems on the screen in terms of scratching, gouging, etc?
Thanks.
Mine has the same tip as yours and has not caused any problems so far for me, but I just got mine too .

Thank you staffman for the reply.
Ok, i have another 7 days to return the GN back to BB if there is an issue. It writes and feels real good...
The barrel pen feels real good so far, what say you?
I say the same. It feels and writes like a real pen. Glides nice and smooth on the screen. I have used it quite a bit tonight without issue, no scratches, gouges, or marks so far. The pen is weighted just right and the right size for me. Now if only i can just get used to the button and quit taking screen shots while I write.

Ditto, ditto and ditto... too funny on the screen shots... welcome to the club on that one!
I was concerned over the differences on the tips.
I recapped 3 meetings notes tonight and cant see any degradation in terms of screen scratches.
The biggest problem is my wife see's the s-pen and picks it up and starts to use it... not good!
I was just wondering this. That pen was actually made for the Note 5.3". The reason why I'm doubting this is because Sammy did change the tip on the 10.1 pen...its a softer tip. Maybe they changed it because it does scratch? 5.3" users did report some scratching. I think im gonna stop using it and get the real 10.1 S pen holder.
Basically I dont trust it, eventhouhg it looks nice.
This is the real one you should be loking at:

Thank you for the link. I will try to find it locally if not i will go to ebay again. Wife is going to kill me!
you do know that the note 10.1 stylus (that was included with your tablet) has white nylon nibs as well, right? They came in a little baggie. The nib alone shouldn't scratch it as it's hardness is much lower. get a piece of grit stuck between the nib and screen though and all bets are off.

My 10.1 came with the white nylon nibs as well as the softer black ones. This is day two of my using of the pen kit on my 10.1 and not a signal mark. l always make sure my screen is clean before putting any s-pen to it. If I ever do get a mark I will make sure to post about it.

that's odd. Mine came with five (5) black with white center ones and two (2) completely white ones.
Just checked mine and it indeed came with the Nylon hard tips so scratching shoulnt be an issue. So question now is: Is the old pen to do 1024 levels of pressure? Or is this done on the screen itself?

you can actually put the stylus in the holder backwards so that the button doesn't line up with the button on the holder, it's worked great for me like this for a couple weeks now.

The pen does the pressure sensing... you can test out by holding the tip of the pen real.close to the screen and pressing it with your finger.. the tablet registers touchs depending on how hard you press without touching the screen

I tried that but there doesn't seem to be a way to make my S-Pen fit into the Pen holder backwards without forcing it, and I don't really want to do that to awful bad. Thanks anyway.

There are two versions of this pen....at least there are two part numbers. Anyone know the difference s. I just got the one that was llisted on the. Samsung 10.1 site. One it's ETS110EBEGXAR. The other is ET -S110EBE GSTA
Has anyone heard rather there will be new nibs for this s pen.. I have a wacom intuos 4 pad It came with several different type of nibs. I find the spring loaded ones work best for me with the input setting set to very sensitive With the spring. It really feels very much like a graphics style pencil with very soft lead..
Anyway my questions . have anyone tried the intuios Nibs or if there might be different ones available
guys please they are called NIBS.. Not tips . giggles..
thanks for a reply in advance . i will be picking up the note monday after two failed attempts on getting a good nexus 7 . was not going to get the note because i own the intuos but now i believe this could be awesome for doing on site print/ structural changes.without having to drag out my big notebook and so on...
the intuos/cintiq nibs do not fit the the stock s-pen that comes wit the device. The diameter is too large.

I'm really excited about the prospect of using this phone to replace my pad of paper at work, but I'm wondering if it works as well as advertised.
Is it possible to write small characters using the S Pen and S Note (or third party app)? In the reviews I've seen they always use gigantic letters when demonstrating S Note.
What happens if I rest my palm on the screen? Do I have to keep the pen close enough to the screen (so it detects it as hovering) to avoid picking up touches from my palm?
I used it to take our menu order last night for 9 of us without any issues if that helps?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
U can write small letter, thre is a slider that can change how thick/thin the lines gonna be and also can rest u palm on the screen while using s-pen writing. Its a new features on Note 2, there is a icon at bottom right that can activate not to react while a palm touching the screen while using the s-pen. Search for spen in youtube and watch the magic of s-pen.

Thanks for the info!
Did you consider buying the note 10.1?
I use it for note taking in lectures and the bigger screen is definitely an advantage there over my note 2!
Though the possible functions are nearly the same

So if you want to tap while hovering. Get the s pen close to the screen and put your finger under the s pen tip and press the tip in. I just found out that the screen isn't the one recognizing the taps. The s pen has a sensor that tells the phone that it is touching the screen. Maybe many of you knew this but I just found out so wanted to share!

Neat! Even though you would have to practice to be able to do it well, since it is so tiny.
They should have added an extra button on the pen to do that action.
Ya I really wish they did. I been trying to find some kind of method to tap while hovering for a longggg time
I wish clicking the button on the S-Pen could function as a tap so I could browse like this...

That would be pretty cool.. It's probably just a matter of time here at XDA.
Actually I might get an extra pen & try to take this on. If the phone can register a click while hovering using your trick (which I tried and it definitely does), it should theoretically be possible to remap the hard-button to tap into the same trigger that the phone recognizes when the pen's tip is pressed. It's gonna be a ***** getting this pen apart but at least the button is close to the tip :good:.
If anyone knows where to get a note 2 pen for less than $50 let me know..
EDIT: Just discovered that if you hold your finger over the tip of the pen (keeping the tip depressed) you can scroll/tap/etc. when you're within an inch or two of the screen.. Intersting

That would be amazing. If you go on Samsung site, they have s-pens for $30 and there's a coupon that gives you 50% off if you register your note 2 on samsung website.

Just take a look around for any pen that works with a bamboo tablet digitizer thing (those writing pads for computers) from my understanding, as long as it works with that, then it'll work with the note 2

No so. Those use Wacom or N-Trig digitizers. Does not work with Samsung technology. Believe me, that is the first thing I tried with my Bamboo pen as soon as I got my device.

The idea that I was thinking of, as a spin-off to the OP's comment, was having a pen modified so that you could just wave over the screen to move around within the OS and just tap the button to interact. Obviously it's not a game-changer but it would be fun playing some games or even swyping without having to touch the screen.
There might even be a way to modify a glove or something that works in a manner similar to kinect.. of course you'd have to be pretty close to the screen but still might be a fun little project to play around with.. Anyway, extra pen is on it's way.. we'll see where this goes.
I think you could just remove the s-pen button cover and adjust the sensitivity pot and achieve the same thing?
Prety neat trick consideringi have the invisable shield and the spen destroys it

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but another cool spen trick that I happened upon while hovering is switching from pen to eraser by clicking the spen button.
Since it looks like we are starting a Cool S-Pen thread here it works ridiculously well in splashtop and gives you a super responsive and accurate mouse
And as for figuring out a way to click without touching the screen it would probobly be easier to swap the input events rather than physically modding the pen

Wow that's a much better idea than the hardware mod I was thinking of.. I'm an absolute beginner at coding & hardware comes easily to me so I don't feel too stupid for not thinking of it.
Ideally I want to try & write an app that would give you the option of switching the preset input events on the fly so I could go from normal spen use to "hover" spen mode with an IME type notification or something.. Now where to begin

It works fine for me too, the only complaint I have is how hard it is pull it out and how not slipper the tip is (former could be due to pen abused by previous owner).
But It's so tight that I almost convinced it was made with spring load mechanism in mind, but they forgot put one in...
Also, because spen can be put in two directions (button up or down), every time you pull it out you have to look for the button, while on N2 you could literately find button in one motion without looking, because once you pull it out, the button at the same place every single time.
