Ok, so I didn't know that, that (from my other post) was "Insurance fraud". So I decided to fix the phone myself, Insurance cancelled. Now as you may already know, I stood on my phone. I am guessing that the Digitizer is the touch panel and the screen is a the botton displaying the image.. Once the damage was done, I quickly checked if the phone was alright so I pressed the "Unlock key" and had to swipe the unlock screen to see if the phone was working, so obviously the Digitizer is working as it did change to homescreen when I swiped the screen.
As I panicked I took the battery out, and turning the phone back on hoping it will work, It did not. Some green dots and lines started apearing. Then it stopped displaying, so a black screen after the vibration when I'm turning on the phone.
I also know that the phone is still working because when I plug it into my computer Windows 7 has that little bleep..
The glass screen is not cracked but, when you look at the screen at an angle you see the some scratches (or cracks) underneath on the AMOLED..
Now, my question is, do I need a new AMOLED or a new Digitizer?
thanks for your time!
edit; I've been looking at abit of nexus one Screens/Digitizer's, they seem cheaper, so would they work with a Desire?
So I have my DHD since Oct, and I just recently noticed the screen seems to be off center, or misaligned. It's not a big issue, but I'm curious if others are like mine. If you look at the pics you can see the black boarders on each side of the screen, and the one on the right is bigger, but it's not just a thicker boarder, but if you look close (if you look at yours you may need to angle it in light to see the true boarder and the emptyness) you can see the screen seems to be positioned more to the left, and it seems to go from top to bottom (meaning at the top the boarder is right next to the screen, and the gap gets bigger as it gets to the bottom). Inside the boarder there is black empty space, but only on the right side. The left side is right next to the boarder. It almost seems like the screen underneath the glass is shifted. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, but I'm just wondering if it is misaligned there may be a way to fix it.

Really? Why would they put more space on the right side? I'm not talking about the space from the bar with the apps, phone, and settings to the end of the wallpaper, but the space from the wallpaper to the painted black boarder on the glass.

oh i can see it now, no i dont have that black border maybe email htc about it?
Mine also same...right side gap and today i give to service centre .
first the updated software but solution. Then they received and said to change LCD. Now waiting to come...from service center..
Wow, never really noticed about this, until i saw this thread, mine is also slightly off center to the left.. But not noticeable and i can live with it.. very hard to see the differences.. less than a milimeter..
I've just noticed this on mine, only had it since launch! Mine looks almost as if its mounted at a slight anti clockwise angle.
Looks like HTC QC team were on holiday when the DHD was released!
Miny is a tiny bit off centre too, although I would have never noticed if it was not mentioned here. I would be prepared to live with it but I also have a spec of dust under the screen since new and I also have the camera blur problem, so this squint screen if the final straw for me... it's going back to HTC. Hopefully with these 3 problems I will get a new handset from them rather than a repair. There's only so much you can polish a turd

Yeah I just noticed it on mine about a week ago. I probably wouldn't have, but I was trying different cases, and one made it look funny, so I looked closer. At first I thought it was the case, but then saw it was the screen. Without the case on I don't really notice it. Funny you say that about the spec of dust. I have one also. on the opposite side of the volume rockers. I can only see it on a pure white background. Thanks for you input. I was just wondering how may were like that. It seems like more than just me.
Reply from HTC
I emailed HTC about the screen being off center, and I included the pics form this thread, and even gave the link. Here is what they replied with:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the display on your HTC Desire HD device.
If this issue coincided with the installation of a third party application, please remove the application and evaluate the result. If removal of the application appears to resolve the issue, the application is likely the cause and you should contact the application provider for further assistance.
If no third party application is involved, please soft reset your phone by powering it off, removing the battery, waiting ten seconds, and then reinserting the battery and restarting the device.
If your device's display continues to be off center, I recommend you restore it to its factory default settings by performing a factory data reset. This will permanently erase all installed programs and data files on your phone; you will therefore want to first back up all files to your storage card or to a third party application from the Android Market. Use HTC Sync to back up Outlook contacts and calendar files, or Google Sync to back up your Google contacts and calendar. Calendar events are color-coded: green for Outlook, blue for Google, and orange for Exchange. You can back up text and picture messages by forwarding them to an email address. It will not affect files on your storage card.
To reset your phone, please press Home > MENU and then tap Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone > Erase everything.
If a factory data reset does not resolve your device's issue, I recommend you contact our HTC Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and Repair Department for further assistance. Please contact them by dialing 1-888-617-1113. Their business hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time seven days per week. Please have the device serial number (S/N) available when you contact them. You can find the S/N in the battery compartment of your phone.
If you need to contact us again, please include the device S/N in your response."
I guess maybe a factory reset will reposition the screen?
And who says Customer Service responses are scripted.
Of course, a factory reset will magically reposition the screen. Why didn't we think of that.
factory reset not work for me..........my desire hd sent to HTC head office.
You guys want QC issues? On the first DHD I had 2 weeks ago, the speaker grill above the screen was not straight. It was on a 2-3 degree slant and was visible, especially when using it with a case.

I have that too. The left side of the grill is almost touching the bottom right by the screen while the right side is up a bit more. You can really see more of the aluminum in between the right side than the left, so I have a dust particle under the screen, the screen is off center, and the grill is slanted. I'm calling HTC to get a new one for sure.
UPDATE
Well well well. I sent my phone to HTC to fix my issues. Just got it back today. 100% perfect! The screen is positioned beautifully. They even removed the one little spec of dust that I had trapped there. I really thought it would come back with a note saying they couldn't fix anything. I am very impressed. I guess with the screen being off center is what made the SIM cover be off also. When I looked at the phone from the front the right side SIM cover was in more than the left. Well now it's 100% perfect! The only thing they didn't (couldn't) fix is the speaker grill being at a slight angle. Since it's CNC'd into the aluminium body they would have had to replace the entire body. I can live with that now that the rest is perfect. Oh and I know it's my same phone since I made little tiny marks where only I could see them, and they are still there now.
could you stop to report problems in your devices? i'm pretty sure if i'll look further i'll find some issues too, and i will blame it on you! =oP
until now i didn't find anything, but the glass of the right side of the screen is a little bit off of the frame and everytime i need to pull down the notification bar i feel like i'm fingering paper... weird thing!

LOL Yeah mine had that too. On both sides. Like the screen was lower than the frame, but now everything is flush and even. I got my phone originally out of the second batch HTC made, so maybe they corrected all the problems, because now it's perfect.
i told you so, a issue just appears today! =o\ i'm stuck in car mode, according to my searches, a short in charger cable let you mobile feels like you plugged in a car dock, what active car mode... but, now it believes i'm in a dock even with cable unplugged... i guess i should create a thread about it! =o\
Last night while using the phone I noticed this slight clicking sound from the bottom right corner of the screen (touch-sensitive panel). So I kept pressing it and I wasn't hallucinating, its there. Also figured the sound also comes when I press the bottom right or bottom center edge of the phone. The creaking sound isn't loud but its noticeable when I hold the phone in specific angles and while typing if haptic feedback is on, I think the vibration also makes it happen(weird)
So except for this my HOX is fine and am wondering if I should get it changed.
Are there any long term effects to this? I'm starting to just ignore the sound and trying not to make it happen purposely
Depends, does it make the sound when you're using it normally? If it does I would consider swapping it, although you said everything else was fine.
If on the other hand, it makes the sound if you hold it in a certain way and push unusually hard then I would say stop intentionally pushing it in a weird way and use it properly.
People have been complaining about "screen flex" along the side of the phone when they push on the edge and run their fingers along the side. Want to get rid of the screen flex when you push the edge of your phone and move your finger along it? STOP PUSHING THE EDGE OF YOUR PHONE!!!
Just remember that some phones have had screen flickering, yellow marks and even scratches under the screen, you may not be as lucky as your were the first time if you choose to swap it.
what you described is not flex even, most mobile devices have a creak some where
Flex should mean the screen is literally loose to warrant an exchange

The only time I've noticed this sound while using the phone is during haptic feedback from typing on the keyboard. I switched haptic feedback off to save battery and for this 'problem'

I did reduce pushing it intentionally since last night after figuring it might mess it up more.

Yea after I got mind-f***ed I did press the edge a lot to be sure.(we humans ...) But now am controlling myself to not press the edge and use it normally.

Exactly why am thinking hard if I should get mine replaced. Another reason being I'll be leaving UAE(got the phone here) for good in a week and if by chance I do get a defective unit I'll waste a lot of time.
I'm not gonna play around with the edge anymore haha.

Yes you're right a lot of electronics and gadgets have creaking parts. Mostly the ones made outa plastic though. Does your HOX creak too?

my first flexed bad (soft one pressure, loose) on the left side, although i loved it so much because it had the much more dense yellowish sharp screen
second hox had a bad coating and slight flex on the left side, also hot pixels
third HOX my current is perfect, the screen is rigid on all sides expecially left and right, but it creaks if its around 50degree hot on two out of the four corners, very very slight creaks and only happens if it test it intentionally, it has the acer white screen with visible pixel grid, so the first hox screen i miss so much
im saying don't replace for a little reason bro it will be a bumpy ride, if the screen is loose then ok, you can see it by testing for light bleed in a dark room or if its physically moving
I think my screen is perfect. I can't figure how you're suggesting I test it, but pressing along the edges with slight pressure doesn't cause any change in the screen. The pixels are all good and no flickering. I think its a yellowish screen and not the bluish one.
How do you find out what LCD brand is on your HOX?

there is a guide somewhere on how to check the LCD
anyway it sounds perfect dont get rid of it!
Hmm I don't think I'll get it changed, I love it too much . Just have to get used to the occasional/random creak/click sounds from the device.
Hey Guys, I'm a new Nexus 7 owner and I seem to be having a problem with it.
Every now and then when I put the screen on, It looks like it's taken LCD Damage, But after I switch the screen on and off a few times [can vary from 5 to 20 times], it comes back to normal.
I'm from Durban, South Africa, If i do need to repair it, Where do I go?
Thanks so much!
I'm having a hard time distinguishing your "LCD damage", what is the problem specifically?

The entire screen is on and looking fine except that on the top right hand corner of the screen, it's showing a few different colours, and it's leaving burn marks of whatever icons or notification bar that was previously there, as well as it twitches on that side of the screen. But the touch function works fine. and some times if i repeatedly put the screen on and off a few times it works fine, but it goes back to this glitchy damaged state
Hi,
Unfortunately for me i dropped my phone and cracked my tempered glass in several places. gladly the screen underneath was perfectly fine after drop however, it has developed a fault as the screen won't turn on at all. I tried turning it off and restarting and although i can hear the boot up logo sound i see no picture at all. i can receive calls but cannot answer due to screen not displaying.
The screen had four main pressure cracks.... one is top left, one on the ear speaker, one bottom middle and one bottom left of phone. hopefully you can see it in picture.
Can you give advice on what to try or do to resolve this? will i need a new screen or disassemble to see what the issue is?
I've only had the phone for 2/3 months at most
Thanks in advance
looks like i will answer my own question....
i bought a replacement lcd & digitiser, one complete unit and swapped the necessary components over to new screen. all is working and good. not sure if the screen is repairable but there are other parts inside this screen worth selling on. it still has a non cracked immaculate screen along with the charging port and other stuff inside old screen.
at a cost of £70, i consider this an expensive fix
Thanks for the input kakawak
cheers
