Do you use the same APN settings or are straight talk's different? That would have an effect if they're supposed to be different.
I didn't compare the two, but I'm pretty sure they're different: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856574
So apparently the SIM that came with the straight talk cheap phone cannot be used on any other phone they're tied together and now im basically f***** because the sims are worthless too me the cheapy phone even more so and I can't get a refund on the two 45 dollar airtime cards I bought to start service. Go to the straight talk facebook page and post your problem. They'll ask you to open a ticket and they will fix it, or tell you what's wrong.

sim cards are and should be free from t-mobile. go to your local store.
BUT, when you got your phone (if you bought it from t-mobile) it should have come with a sim card, that supports wifi calling. That's what I had to do, had them activate the sim that came with my galaxy s2, and then started using it instead. and bam wifi calling
It sounds like you went to a dealer.
Not every t-mobile store is operated by t-mobile. Many of them are dealer stores that charge whatever they want.
Dealer stores are usually pre pay only, but there are some authorized to collect commission off contracts and that have access to t-mobiles "quickview" account software. (Quickview is the system the infamous SOC codes are set up in.)
A lot of dealers incorporate sleazy practices and do not conform to the standards set by t-mobile. They do things like charge egregious amounts of money on SIM cards, and may not honor the return polices set by t-mobile. They also sell lots of "out of production" phones they get at good deals ex. Lg-g2x for under 240 dollars wholesale and resell for over 550.
Call t-mobile and ask for a corporate store, not a dealer store.
T-mobile seems to allows this since "money is money"
As for the SIM card I don't think it has anything more than you're IMSI and your half of the encryption cypher, (for establishing a network connection) and some limited memory regarding contacts and previous network connection frequencies . . . The fact that your SIM card did not support wifi calling is most likely because t-mobile identified it a a card not to allow access to for whatever reason. I don't believe there is a technical deficiency in you're old SIM preventing such a technology, or support in you're new one for that matter.
But then again, I am no expert. If anyone knows more please share.

Initially they told me $20 too...but I explained to them in a very gruff voice that I give them over $200 a month and I am completely done with my contract and would be happy to switch carriers. T-Mobile is actually using new type of SIM cards - GBA cards that allow WiFi calling via the SIM, and the device must support it as well - you must have a GBA SIM and a compatible device for this type of WiFi calling to work.
If I remember correctly, only the Galaxy S2 and the HTC Amaze support WiFi Calling through the SIM, rest of the devices have it using the app.
Is there a way to get data on the LG Nitro using a gophone plan I kno they have the $65 plan now and it comes with 1gb of data but before I spend my money I wanna see if its a way I can get data enabled and working well I gotta the icon to come in by changing my apn but the guy who activated my sim says this phone can only get talk and text. Anyone here using a GoPhone plan if so are you getting data? Any help greatly appreciated
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
The guy who activated your sim is retarded. If you get the $65/month smartphone unlimited w/1gb data plan your data will certainly work on the Nitro HD since it's an AT&T phone. I personally think that's a monumental waste of money each month, but whatever, it's your decision.
Why do you say that its a waste of money is there a better plan out there

AT&T won't give you the unlock code, but you can still acquire the unlock code for your device for under $10 from sites like this one: http://www.cellunlocker.net/lg-unlock.php
Will it still get 4g
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
StraightTalk works on AT&T so no unlock. Mine isn't unlocked and works just fine. Also, 4G is there.
So it doesn't have to be unlocked to use a straight talk sim? That's great
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
You won't get LTE on Straight Talk, but HSPA+ is still better than nothing. To me LTE is essentially worthless when you only have 1GB.
Lte will blow thru 1gb in one day I'm just trying to make the right decision the ppl at straight talk said I had to unlock the phone 1st then here I hear something different. The guy I bought this phone from got the unlock code from at&t but it doesn't work so I'm kinda sceptical about trying one of those unlock sites but $45 sounds better than $65
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
If it's an AT&T Nitro? Then you're fine, just make sure you buy the right sim for AT&T. The person you spoke to didn't give you the correct information. I took a locked AT&T Nitro I bought from Craigslist, stuck the ST Sim in and it works perfect.
I'm going to try that

hey everyone i'm new to this so please bare with me..I have a T-Mobile Samsung galaxy s3 and I got the unlock code off eBay for a pretty cheap price, so far it looks liked it accepted it . I wanted to switch over to net10 or simple mobile. I heard about if not paying my T-Mobile bill they will block the imei number. If so will I be able to use it at all on those carriers I stated, or will I just have to use it on H2o or Att.
Also as far as the apn settings is there an application that will help? Thanks in advance

To be fair, they're going to know your IMEI even if you don't disclose it to them during the sign-up process. Just by using the phone it will send that information out when you communicate with their cell towers - so I'd imagine if T-Mobile shares its block list with Simple Mobile, it won't matter if you disclosed the IMEI at signup - they're going to know it anyway.
That, and the Big Four is actively working with the FCC on a cross-carrier database - so unless that falls through at the 11th hour, that's on the horizon in the next year or so.
Just sayin'.
What do you mean by the big four carriers is working with the fcc in the next year? Please explain, thanks

Yeah your right. I just called simple mobile and they said even if it is blacklisted for not paying my bill, it will still work because its an unlocked gsm phone so it wouldnt matter, just pop in my sim card and I would just honestly get edge network which is slower than 3g speed.

It will work if they don't use T-Mobile IMEI blacklist and continue not to do so.
It seems like that's the case, at least for now.
Just saying, it doesn't have anything to do with if the phone being carrier unlocked or not - IMEI is tied to the phone's hardware, not the SIM card.
I went through something similar with T-Mobile, and most of the reps don't know what the block list is let alone how it works.

Hey team, I have a problem and hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have a T-Mobile Note 2 with Jedi ROM installed. I have just become a Straight Talk customer and cut a Sim card to size and put it in my phone. This is the first SIM to ever be in the phone. When my phone boots up I get an error message saying "Invalid SIM CARD!". The SIM is good as it works in the crappy flip phone Straight Talk sent me.
I go through the steps of entering the Straight Talk APN but when I try to save nothing seems to stick. Help! What am I doing wrong? Since I was on Sprint I never had to deal with SIM cards as this is my first GSM phone ...I feel I am missing something obvious.

Is your Straight Talk SIM an AT&T or T-Mobile one? Is your Note 2 unlocked? (If not, flash it to the original, pre-LTE update T-Mobile ROM and unlock it using instructions posted on here.)

I'd say the easiest way would be to unlock and buy some mins over there (along with one of their carrier's sim card, usually about 10$). That way you don't get charged for roaming.
You might have to flash another modem once you're there but you'll see by yourself if yours is fine or not.

Pretty much. I duno the carriers over there but usually that's what you'd do. Go in, explain you're staying for a couple weeks and wanna use their service. They should sell you a pay as you go sim with some mins.
You can always check with the carriers before hand.
