Traveling to Ireland with the wife for three weeks, wondering if there is a easy and cheap way to get my phone to work in Ireland? Buy a burner while I'm there, or unlock my phone and buy mins? What converter for charging can i use without putting a hurt on my phone or battery, Not sure that's why I'm asking, any suggestions are welcomed, thanks.

I'd say the easiest way would be to unlock and buy some mins over there (along with one of their carrier's sim card, usually about 10$). That way you don't get charged for roaming.
You might have to flash another modem once you're there but you'll see by yourself if yours is fine or not.

Pretty much. I duno the carriers over there but usually that's what you'd do. Go in, explain you're staying for a couple weeks and wanna use their service. They should sell you a pay as you go sim with some mins.
You can always check with the carriers before hand.
I was in Uk couple a month ago I unlocked my sim card and use 3mobile service it give me unlimeted Data 300 min and 500 text for 15 pound no setup fee just put your sim in the phone and you are ok ( whatsapp & viber and vonage worked perfectly )
Did you use the unlock method in the dialpad? Can I but a sim card online so I'm setup when I arrive? And when I get back I just put my att Sim back in and wallah?

its easier to unlock or get service for your phone here in US compared to Ireland..................

Yea att won't unlock unless my 2yr contact is up, even though I've been a customer for ten yrs(kinda bs in my opinion) I can just unlock through dialpad... was going to get a Sim online, but I guess it's Vodafone, looks like you have to goto a store there.

Soft unlock works. It's much cheaper to buy a local sim.

So ive been doing researches cuz i would like to get my "WIFI Calling" to work...
So i called T-mobile to see they had a solution for me...
And this is what they said:
They told me that the Normal Sim Card i have is not supported to use WIFI Calling.....
So the guy said that i need to buy a "GAB SIM CARD" that supports WIFI Calling and its price is $20
I even Google it to see how they look but didn't find it...
What do you guys think?
Should i buy it or is there another way to do it without buying this SIM CARD

sim cards are and should be free from t-mobile. go to your local store.
BUT, when you got your phone (if you bought it from t-mobile) it should have come with a sim card, that supports wifi calling. That's what I had to do, had them activate the sim that came with my galaxy s2, and then started using it instead. and bam wifi calling
It sounds like you went to a dealer.
Not every t-mobile store is operated by t-mobile. Many of them are dealer stores that charge whatever they want.
Dealer stores are usually pre pay only, but there are some authorized to collect commission off contracts and that have access to t-mobiles "quickview" account software. (Quickview is the system the infamous SOC codes are set up in.)
A lot of dealers incorporate sleazy practices and do not conform to the standards set by t-mobile. They do things like charge egregious amounts of money on SIM cards, and may not honor the return polices set by t-mobile. They also sell lots of "out of production" phones they get at good deals ex. Lg-g2x for under 240 dollars wholesale and resell for over 550.
Call t-mobile and ask for a corporate store, not a dealer store.
T-mobile seems to allows this since "money is money"
As for the SIM card I don't think it has anything more than you're IMSI and your half of the encryption cypher, (for establishing a network connection) and some limited memory regarding contacts and previous network connection frequencies . . . The fact that your SIM card did not support wifi calling is most likely because t-mobile identified it a a card not to allow access to for whatever reason. I don't believe there is a technical deficiency in you're old SIM preventing such a technology, or support in you're new one for that matter.
But then again, I am no expert. If anyone knows more please share.

Because TMobile likes to get every dime they can. Usually they are free in the corporate owned stores.....franchises have the option to charge

Initially they told me $20 too...but I explained to them in a very gruff voice that I give them over $200 a month and I am completely done with my contract and would be happy to switch carriers. Manager came out and gave me the SIM. Since that day I always go to that store and the Manager normally sweetens my purchase with a discount on what I buy.

T-Mobile is actually using new type of SIM cards - GBA cards that allow WiFi calling via the SIM, and the device must support it as well - you must have a GBA SIM and a compatible device for this type of WiFi calling to work.
If I remember correctly, only the Galaxy S2 and the HTC Amaze support WiFi Calling through the SIM, rest of the devices have it using the app.

either get teh code from AT&T (if you're a customer) or pay $25 for it at one of the unlock code sites. there are no 'free' options outside of the carrier.
To get the code from ATT, dont you have to pay the full price of the phone though? Also, if you do the 25$ unlock code thingy, does the unlock stay forever (even if I do an update or change ROM's)?

Go online, start a chat with international support and tell them you are planning a trip out of country and need the phone unlocked so you can use a prepaid sim. They will ask for your IMEI#, and after they check everything out they'll give you the unlock code. I tried talking to a csr on the phone and they kept giving me crap about my two year term not being completed, and whole bunch of other gibberish rules. International support online chat got my code within 5 minutes of chat. Just did this today free of charge.

I see this as unlikely, but would i be able to bring my phone to japan and place it on one of their carriers? Ive read they use cdma, but how much does that matter when it comes to radios or bands? It's called unlocking and basically unlocks your phone so it can use any carrier. Now it's illegal in the US but call up your provider ask and for the unlock code anyway. Say you have to go there in a couple of day and you need to use the phone. Normally they'll give it to you via email and the instructions are included in the email. All you would have to do after you unlock the phone is replace the sim card and you'll all good to go. Now don't go online and buy the unlock codes from websites because most of them are scams and even though some might work, its not worth giving them your credit card number and then be in deep yogurt. Hoped this helped

You can probably get kddi mobile in japan to add your esn for you. I'm almost positive they use the same 3g frequency as sprint, however I doubt you'll be able to get lte.

If kddi won't add the esn, you could get a cheap phone thru them and flash your note with cdma ws or find another mvno that will add it. Now that sprint and softbank are looking at a partnership I think softbanks carrier's will accept sprint phones for Americans that come over without too much hassle. Japan has a large cdma network (largest outside of US) and use the same frequencys and sprint as vzw so 3g should be no problem and neither should finding someone to add your esn over there. They're pretty good about letting Americans use their own devices when they come over.
I like to break stuff!
I got my unlock code directly from AT&T. I do not have another carrier sim card to place in the phone (that will fit, this is a smaller than standard size sim card). There are people in my office that have T-mobile, sprint, or Virgin but have full size sim cards.
Any suggestions or instructions??
Thanks!!

I'm wondering - would a SIM from an AT&T MVNO (such as RedPocket) be considered a "non AT&T SIM card" for purposes of unlocking?
I just bought an "H20 Wireless" micro sim card on Ebay for .99.
Hopefully it will do the trick...will post an update (if anyone cares) if it does or doesn't work when I receive it.
Why don't you just store the code and use it when you get any non att sim? I mean, why waste money, even a $, unless well you have a willing non att friend who can lend you his sim.

Got it. I didn't think of selling phone. I was thinking on my lines given that I am a frequent traveler, and get code from AT&T within 90 days or earlier of getting a new phone.
OK. so i put the H2O sim card in and reboted several times and all I get is "sim card not provisioned".
So I just borrowed a Verizon sim card from someone in the office that has a Verizon Galaxy S III and got the same thing.
I am not being prompted for an unlock code?
What Am I doing wrong???
