GSM on DINC2 will not work without "2G only checked" - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hello everyone,
I have been stuck with this problem for days now with no more thoughts on how to fix it:
I have an unlocked, rooted DINC2 that I am trying to use with T-Mobile prepaid. I am currently running {10-25-2012}{Rom}{ICS} Official Global CM9 from Psycho R' Us. I can send/receive phone calls fine, however unless "2G only" is checked in the settings (EDGE), I can't get data working at all and it just shows all the bars grey. I believe my APN settings are correct... if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please let me know .
Thanks!

Okay... weird now it works on EDGE:2, but it should be on HSPA+ since its been reported to be active in the NoVA area near me. Is there a way to get it on that network?
Thanks again!

This phone doesn't support all gsm bands, so I doubt it will hit HSPA+. I don't know for sure, but you'd have to research what bands the phone supports vs. what bands T-mobile uses.

T-Mobile uses Frequency 1900 for their new HSPA+ service, and the Droid Incredible 2 supports GSM frequency 1900, so shouldn't it work?

That's what I thought when I let a buddy use his Dinc2 to pay down some cash he owed me (his sociopath 20-something kid snaked two $100-bills outta my wallet...sigh)...but I seem to remember reading a thread that it won't work.
I honestly haven't spent much time on this after my initial searches since my main use is as a GPS logger, mp3 and audible player though I am prolly going to grab a ST or or GSM card to reduce device clutter...so while I haven't anything useful to contrib here I will follow and post any relevent links I stumble across tonight (working midnight shift so not a ton to do other than not fall asleep.

I think this is the current list of nations with CDMA networks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CDMA2000_networks
I would recommend that you simply buy a phone from a local mobile company. CDMA phones are harder to get working on other systems than GSM phones.
You have to find out what networks you have where you live. American CDMA is pretty much only a North American signal. The Evo is built to run on the Sprint network which is CDMA.
Most European countries (I know you are not in European country) run on a GSM network. Two of USA's bigger companies run GSM phones...AT&T and T-Mobile. Phones from both those companies will run in Europe...but not at 3G. But they will work.
My new Evo will not work in Europe...so next time I travel I will need to consider this.
Not sure if that helps. What network does your phone company use? Then get a phone that will work on that network. Evo is only CDMA so pretty much only a North American phone.
thank you very much for your answer, i hope to get a wonderful phone soon, and thank you again

I live in Asia and yes, as long as you have compatible CDMA networks it will work, even the EVDO works!! You'll just need to ask your CDMA provider to inject a CDMA number or you can unlock it yourself using CDMA works (a bit risky thou)
Find out what frequencies the country you are trying to use it in run on their CDMA networks, Sprint runs on 1900MHz, the EVO roams on Verizon's 800MHz band. 800MHz is only for voice, 1900MHz runs both voice and data. So if you are in a country with a 800MHz CDMA network it will work, but only for voice/texts. WiMax runs on 2.5GHz, no one else uses that band for WiMax.
Get a unlocked nexus one it will save u the cdma trouble

Even if it works, and you try and experiment with it only, you might get a few thousand dollar phone bill. Be very careful.
It has happened with many people with iPhone.

Yep, the N1 has nearly the same specs, and is available in both an AT&T flavor and T-Mobile flavor of GSM. Find out what you need in your area (I expect it will be the T-Mobile phone) and go for that instead.
The N1 has a 5MP camera instead of 8MP, but the picture quality is often just as good (higher MP just means you can blow it up or crop more) and the screen is a 3.7" instead of 4.3". However both run basically the same hardware inside, and the N1 has a more mature modding community.

While Europe is a big place, the voice & wireless data portions of the Sprint Evo will not work in England, Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal, or Germany. Just like 95% percent of all Sprint phones.

Uhm...a flat contradiction adds nothing to the conversation. More data if you have it. The non-compatibility with Ireland/Europe/etc was a huge deal to me. One I had to just swallow and accept that if I want the phone I'd have to deal with travel at that time.
I spent weeks researching and was even told by Sprint store that no go on the Evo.
CNET: "Alternatively, if your relative is a Sprint or a Verizon customer, he or she can rent GSM phones from the carrier for the length of the trip:
HTC: "Networks CDMA 800/1900 MHz EVDO Rev. A, WiMAX 2. 5 to 2.7GHz; 802.16e"
Don't be an azz and throw out a denial with no information. Even HTC shows this phone has NO GSM.

[Q] simple mobile on att tilt 2

i just recently left att to switch over to simple mobile with my att tilt 2.....and a question i want to ask is why am i only getting edge with this network? i know this phone is capable of 3g, hsdpa/hsupa sppeds.....if anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated....
While the phone is capable of 3G, the new network may not be and/or may not be the same 3G as what the AT$T network is.

because simple mobile is probably a cheap service provider, so they use lower tier satellite and are lower priority than people who pay the extra bucks for good service
ive been using my tp2 with simple mobile for awhile and they are capable of 3g service. You might just have to goto your connection settings and check to see if you have it checked that you connect through a proxy. If its not put this ip address: 216.155.165.50 after you put that in goto the advanced settings right underneath where you wrote the ip and change the port number from 80 to 8080

The answer is quite 'Simple.' (Don't laugh, I know it wasn't funny...) AT&T's 3G network operates on 1900/850MHz bands while Simple Mobile uses the same bands for 3G as T-Mobile, which is the 1700/2100MHz bands.
Toput this clearly, in order to use Simple Mobile's 3G network on a Touch Pro2, you will need the T-Mobile branded device.
... As can be seen in their FAQ
What phones work on Simple Mobile 3G? Only phones with 1700/2100 AWS band work on our 3G network

What satellites??? Cell networks use towers, not satellites. Is this information from a source you can cite, or just a notion you thought up in your head?

The ATT version of the TP2 (the Tilt2) has the 2100 MHz radio. But it could be that Simple uses the 1700 MHz band in the OPs home market, and that is why he isn't getting 3G.

Because of the high bandwidth of 3G networks, they require an upstream channel and a downstream channel. The 2100MHz band is to be used in conjunction with AT&T's 3G networks in other parts of the world, namely Asia, which is on the 900/2100MHz 3G bands. The AT&T tilt2 lacks the hardware to make connecting to Simple Mobile's 3G network possible.

No one has a hack because what you are asking for is impossible. It's not a software limitation. Your hardware does not support their 3G network as I've mentioned twice above. The radio in the tilt2 does not operate in the frequency range of Simple Mobile's AWS network. I really can't make it any more clear. You can either deal with no 3G or get a branded device. Those are your only options.

OK, I looked up Simple Mobile. They use the T-Mobile 3G network. Sorry, your AT&T phone will not work 3G on that network - it has the wrong hardware modem. You are stuck with EDGE unless you get a different device.

Ooh, another internet tuff guy. I'm shaking.

Will Nitro do 3G service?

So I haven't been able to find anything on this yet. I apologize if it's out there and I missed it.
Will the Nitro do a true 3G signal? I ask because I just returned the Skyrocket because it wouldn't. My problem is I work in the Texas oilfield outside of good coverage areas. With my amplified cell booster my old iPhone would go from NO signal to full 3G. One month of the Skyrocket and it wouldn't work. The phone would only do EDGE, 4G, and LTE.
I've ordered the Nitro (will be here tomorrow) because on the AT&T website it's the only LTE phone that comes up when filtering search to show 3G capable devices. I want the LTE phone because when I'm home in DFW the LTE service is amazing.
I know that "all" phones now are "3G compatible", but the Skyrocket (and even my wife's Infuse) would never do anything more than EDGE out there.
I've noticed that some people use different APNs for certain signal options. I'm new to all of this and I'm not familiar with much about android.
Thanks in advance.
f it helps, I have yet to see 3g on mine. 1 month +

Well crap. Do you regularly travel outside of 4G areas where it should drop to 3G?
I'm beginning to think that all of the 4G phones exclude 3G.
I think it's more basic than that. My initial assumption was that if you're in a 3G coverage area on a network/phone with HSPA+, you'll always see 4G, but I could be wrong in my understanding of how the technology works.

TBH, not regularly enough to have a 100% on the 3g thing.
If i may inject my 2 cents:
The Nitro can use the following cellular frequencies:
2G/3G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
4G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G LTE Network LTE 700 / 1700
so if the cellular area you are in has 3G, and you have an APN for the 3G network, you should have no problems.
You can also scan the area for available frequencies by going to Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators -> Search Networks then choosing the 3G provider you use.
To be honest, i have seen my phone roam to the 3G network while travelling to ottawa from hamilton (where i live) via the 401 and Hwy 7 (transcanada). You will NOT see an indicator that you are on 3G, only the bars for signal strength will show up meaning you have a signal for voice. your carrier may offer 2G/3G data but i can't speak on that as i don't live there
Mine does not allow access to that search networks setting. :-(
@scott0: okay, just what _do_ you get under the network operators menu???
again, I do not get access to that menu at all, whatsoever, nada, zilch.
it is greyed out.
ahhh i didn't mean to upset you. The "greyed out" was an important piece of information. so the baseband has you locked out. you might try flashing the baseband image from Malnilion's thread (if you feel adventurous). You have a Nitro HD, with AT&T if i am not mistaken??
I'm not upset, not sure what would lead you to say that. I was simply checking out the navigation you pointed out as I like to see all the nooks and crannies of this device. Upon navigating there, I discovered the menu is not available and pointed that out.
could you try this for me please *#*#4636#*#* then choose Phone Information and hit the left most soft key (settings/menu) and try the Select Radio Band button please?

My phone has that disabled as well. I think it's because we have locked to AT&T? Does it make sense?
The Select Radio Band crashes here too.
@repherb,
You are running the SU640 ROM which unlocks the features you are describing. Most of us are not, so these settings will hidden from us. In other words, stop asking people to do things that don't apply to the stock AT&T/Bell ROM's.
If you would be so kind as to look at in my sig and THIS thread, i am running the Nitro HD ROM. please stop and READ next time before posting. The SU640 ROM is different than the AT&T or Bell ROMs, as you already know.
The reason I asked him to try it is because the option to select networks is greyed out and since i do not have that feature disabled myself, it only stands to reason to ask scott0 to try it on his unit. Just like i was experimenting on my unit as well, yet i have NEVER told anyone to stop saying/telling/doing something. We are all here to experiment and discover new things and collaborate with our peers to accomplish anything we can with this unit.
thank you LiViD.
---------- Post added at 08:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:00 PM ----------
@ [email protected] & scott0: Okay, i assume you have the option greyed out too, so it stands to reason that the Nitro baseband is locked to that carrier, which means we now have to find a way to experiment on a Nitro with another carrier baseband to see if it allows that option to be available in the normal menus. sound like a plan folks? any guinea pigs out there???

Just got the MSL and enabled both. Its rebooting. What if anything should I notice?
Okay so when i enabled them both I noticed no difference, HOWEVER there are two other values in there for priority of each band. I set them all from 1 to 0. Now LTE is staying connected even tho it goes from 1 to 0 bars. Even with zero bars im getting 3 megs down and 1 up compared to 3g .5 megs and .1 up. So appearently this seems to be a way to force LTE on as I still havnt switched over to 3g

0o0o00o....I have so many questions. Ok which market do you live in? Like which city? I want to see if you have any LTE 2600 (B41) in your area and if you do I would like to see if you can connect to a LTE 2600 tower. I am trying to confirm if LTE 2600 (B41) is truly working when you manually enable it through MSL. Also can you change your Band Priority to have B41 set to "1" to have it enabled and set B25 to "0" so it is set to lower priority.
The concern is that since as you know when you activated it with Sprint, the B26 and B41 LTE bands were disabled by default. Normally folks don't know how to enable this and the question is WHY!!!

According to this thread http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4886-lg-g2-users-thread/page-2, a "0" is meant for low priority and a "1" is for high priority.
Hmmm outside of Atlanta, GA isn't specific enough. It might be hard to verify this. There is LTE 2600 available in certain parts of Atlanta, GA blasting out the signal right now but I think I need more details like the community and nearby major cross street in town.

Well having B26 and B41 enabled doesn't mean your LTE will perform any better if the only LTE you have around you is B25. The reason to enable is that the hope is that if you are in an area where B41 LTE is available, the G2 should try to connect to that tower if it is within range. Its ok though, I am probably blowing your mind already with the stuff I am asking you to do so you can forget it. Thanks for the information though.
Btw, just curious did you get your phone already because you are an employee of Sprint or did you preorder early on Oct 11th? I preordered my LG G2 but I have not yet heard any confirmation of shipment.

I wasn't sure how tech saavy you were. Most people would have their minds blown by now. I guess you are not the average employee. HAHA ...i just wish I could get my LG G2 , get the MSL and enable the B26 and B41 LTE bands and go to my local towers that i know for sure is blasting out LTE 2600 and verify that I am getting and able to use the LTE 2600 signal.
There is an Android app called SignalCheck Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueline.signalcheck&hl=en) that can show which frequencies you are connected to.
And then you would have to verify that you are truly connected to the B41 LTE band using the ##DEBUG# dialer code under LTE Engineering.

Ahh i see. Well good to hear from you. Yeah that SignalCheck app is cool. I definitely recommend you getting the Pro version for $2. The app was actually developed by a member at the S4GRU.com forums and it has been very useful in finding LTE especially with the Network Vision project going around Sprint by giving you audio and message alerts when LTE and 1x800 is nearby.
There are a lot of smart people over at S4GRU.com that know a lot about Network Vision and about smartphones in general. I learned all my information from that website alone. It is because of that site, I am able to find out which areas across the US that have B41 LTE that is broadcasting live at this moment.
hey HaiKaiDo. I have been reading in other forums that the Sprint LG G2 may be suffering from B25 LTE connectivity issues? Can you confirm if you are having LTE connectivity issues thus far?
Root it!

[Q] P605 LTE What service

I know that the P605 will not work with LTE. However I can confirm that my straight talk Sim card works and I am getting HSPA+ (ATT Straight Talk Card) Here is my situation. I purchased a sim car from AT&T and activated it on the Gophone plan.. $35 per month for 500 minutes and unlimited text and data. For some reason no matter what APN I put in I don't get any data. I got data the first night I set it up and now I get no data. I have a International Version of the Galaxy S4 running with a GoPhone dumb phone $50 per month unlimited everything. (AT&T system does not recognize the IMEI so it reverts it to a dumb phone). Why isn't it working for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. I figure $35 bucks isn't a bad deal. Please assist or am I dead in the water.

I also have a P605, and I've been trying to get connected via Red Pocket Mobile, an AT&T MVNO, but I haven't had much luck. However, my issues are with Red Pocket's terrible customer service, and trying to get their smallest data plan (1GB for $10) connected to the sim card (that it took them 2 weeks to send).
I've read about a T-Mobile $30/month plan for BYOD devices that I will test out, once I get the sim card from them (currently backordered)...My device had a USA T-Mobile profile already present in the APN settings, I'm hoping it will work!

I had that Tmobile plan however my area is not fully framed for the 1900MHZ on tmobile. AT&T works but like I said must be something funky going one. At this point I may send my device back for a refund or sell it. I may just wait for a US carrier to get it. Yeah I know I won't get updates or support from US carriers.........wait damn that........ I will get my money back for this one and just go back to using my wifi version. (gave to my wife but will have to get it back) US carriers really suck when it comes to certain things.

Good luck getting your WiFi back from your wife
San Diego should be farmed to 1900 so I'm hoping for decent coverage around town. I faced the same dilemma here, wait or go for it... My old tablet was an Acer A500 so I really needed something (and some people complain about lag on the Note? Ha!).
If you want, I could send you the APN setting Red Pocket lists on their manual setup page, if you think that would help...
Bummer

Sorry... can't help with that
I noticed someone in another thread mentioned they had AT&T working. I can't post links, but in the Original Android Development section, "[RECOVERY] TWRP2.6.3.x TeamWin Recovery Project 12/27" at the top of page 11 there is a message about using AT&T and getting HSPA+ data.
Trying to post a link:

Good luck!
I'm expecting my P605 this Friday. I got it from Ebay. I have a TMO on my Note 3, so technically, should my sim card work on my P605 when I try it?
Will the APN seetings on the phone for TMO work on the P605? Thanks guys.

There shouldn't be any problems using the sim and APN settings. The data rate you will see will depend on your area. If TMO has 'reformed' the edge frequencies to HSPA then you will get decent data. Otherwise you may get stuck with edge...

So if I get 30/18 speed in my house and 20/3 more or less at work. *Should I expect to get the same speed when I put my sim in the tablet?

If your Note 3 isn't using LTE when it gets those speeds, then 'maybe'. Because the P605 doesn't have a perfect match for US freqs it still may not. I'm not sure where you are located, but if it's in a refarmed area you should (P605 supports HSPA on 1900). Here is the link (hope it goes) for the refarmed areas:

Sorry, I'm just learning all this too, and I can't really give you a definitive answer!

Hey bro you've been a big help. Thanks. I bought the tablet without knowing this issue. Anyway, I get a 4G LTE signal on my Note 3 so I guess that's LTE speed. I'm in Houston, TX and it says in the link you posted that we are one of the modernized market so we'll see.
Has anyone gotten the P605 to work on AT&T
Has anyone gotten this thing to work on the AT&T go Plans?
I need a carrier with a good rate that uses the AT&T network. Previously I would put my international devices on the go phone plan since it sees it in the system as a dumb phone however with this one it won't connect to the data. Gives me a message that I need to add a supported data plan.

Ok guys. Tried my TMO sim on this note 10.1 and it's only getting hspa+. I run a speedtest and got 11/3 d/u speed.
It's a lot better if I tether my note 3, I'm getting the same speed I get from phone.

Because the P605 doesn't support LTE in the US frequencies, HSDPA+ is the best you will be able to do. Your note 3 is tuned to use the LTE freqs here.

Yeah I was told about that. I just want to see how big is the difference. Making me think twice about this LTE version but I prefer the Snapdragon over Exynos.
Are all Wifi version on Exynos SOC?

I see. Thanks.
Maybe thats one reason I'll stick with this LTE version. Maybe someday TMO will utilize the same band. I hope
