What will I get for a broken dinc 2 from Verizon? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So its about that time to fake the phone not working and convince rep to give me a new phone. So do you think that I can convince them to give me a galaxy nexus? Or at least a rezound? I'd settle for a razor if I got the chance.

Zilch. How close to the upgrade date are you?

Good luck.

Well you never can tell. When my inc1 broke it was out of warrenty, months away from upgrade date. Went to 3 different Verizon stores, they basically told me to p1ss off and I either had to buy new phone at full price or activate my old dumb phone and they would remove the data charge. I'm like, so you would rather lose out on $30/month extra than give me my upgrade/new phone, that Verizon probably pays nothing for. Um yeah.
Called customer service. Told her my phone was dead and I had to activate my old phone. What? Oh yeah I can give you your upgrade now. And that's how I got the inc2. Nexus wasn't out yet. So you can try that. The brick and mortar stores are ****ing useless. They won't do sh1t for you.

I have an upgrade now LOL. IDK if I still have warrenty. I'd just buy a new phone but I just blew 200$ on my N7. Sooo....... Maybe ill wait a bit.

Just wait until you have the money.

If you have a warranty, you'll get a non-broken Inc2. If you don't have a warranty, you'll get nothing. Verizon will only give you a different phone if they don't have any leftover stock of the device you turned in, and in that case, they are going to give you something that they consider to be equivalent. You'd likely be looking at getting a Droid X2 or something like that. But again, no warranty, no luck.
You're better off just using your upgrade if you don't have/care about unlimited data. If you have unlimited data and you don't want to lose it, start saving your pennies to buy a phone out of contract.
EDIT: I'm not sure what you mean by "faking" the phone being broken. They do check for that. I've seen multiple people get turned down or billed the full price of the phone if you try and fraud them into giving you a new device. VZW is a business. The goal of any busines is to make money. If they let anyone who just wanted a new phone scam them at will, they would likely be out of business by now.

[Q] Switch carriers and insurance

Hey gang, long story short;
I lost my phone on Halloween, got my Asurion replacement but now I'm considering switching to AT&T to get back on my family plan with my wife.
I'm within my 30 days to cancel my contract. I don't have my original hardware but I do have a new Asurion one. I'm willing to eat the deductible to get out. Is this going to be a problem. any advice will be appreciated.
It probably depends on who you talk to but they might stick you with the etf because its not the original equipment you opened the line with

California is 30 days cancel and return.
I talked to tech support to reactivate my account to see if I really want to switch back or not and they said that it shouldn't be a problem to return this handset versus the one I got in store. It is the same phone and now it is 2 weeks newer than the one I got. I guess we'll see how it goes.
I love this phone, though and really hope I can convince my wife to join me on Tmo so I can keep it.

it should be fine, my store said that they'll charge a $50 restocking fee if I return the phone within 30 days (then again I bought my phone outright without a contract, so maybe no restocking fee for you).
I know I can return and pay a restock fee with "original" hardware but does my insurance replaced phone count as "original" hardware?
Thanks again for the input and sorry I didn't think to stick this in Q&A in the first place.

Why dont you take the phone with you? Not 100% sure the tmobile will take it back. You have a receipt for a particular imei not just a certain phone. I wouldnt be surprised if they flat out refuse.

Not looking good according to the feedback here
So what would they expect me to do, pay for the phone outright even though it was lost and I paid for insurance? Then after I cancel, what do i do with the replacement. This isn't a very good system if this is the case.
I've returned 2 new phones in the past 6 months on Verizon. The first time was with a GS3, the rep just looked at the outside to make sure there was nothing obviously damaged, never turned it on or checked the IMEI. The second return was a MAXX HD, where the rep didn't even open the box, he just processed my return and I went on my way.
I would say go to the store, attempt to return it but don't mention that you got it replaced with insurance unless they ask.

Heres the thing. Your local t-mobile store is a franchise and owned by someone who sets the rules for that store, following guidelines from t-mobile. None of us are going to accurately be able to give you any insight into how the store will handle your transaction.
That being said, are you having buyers remorse? Is the t-mobile coverage bad? You mentioned your wifes family plan, t-mobile offers better plans vs at&t...cost wise. Whats the reason you are returning the phone?
For those who returned phones and are saying they dont check, they do and will. Your imei is in a lot of other places than just in jellybean. Again, its different by store. Just go in and be honest with the salesman and manager and let us know how they handled it.
What I missed in all of this is your reasoning behind getting rid of the phone.

I love the phone but the contract is just more than I want to spend and becuase I can get the same phone at ATT, I just figure I might want to wait until I can just buy the phone outright or wait until my ETF isn't $230. Tmo has been a little spotty during my trial, a lot of data switching to edge or worse. So all in all, I guess I was just hoping Tmovile would wow me enough that I'd go the extra mie to keep it but they did not. So now I'm hoping I'm not stuck over something dumb on my part by losing my original hardware.
Good advice, though.

[Q] Which insurance do you use?

I've been with T-Mobile insurance, Asurion since the G1. I'm planning on getting the Nexus 4 (THIS IS NOT A NEXUS 4 THREAD DO NOT TURN IT INTO ONE!!!!) should I drop the T-Mobile insurance and go with a different company... Options I have looked up are SquareTrade & Ensquared. If you know of another company I'm all ears. Thanks.
Ive heard that you can even insure it through some companies like state farm or whatever. Dont quote me on it, someone told me that a while back but I never looked into it. If they do id imagine its an addon type thing....

Dont rely only on me, but I am pretty sure they will, so long as you are on a monthly plan, not prepaid. Verify that though!
I have heard a few times that using Asurion is a bit more expensive than other options, just fyi. It is convenient though.
Ya I'm going to ask a dude I know that works for them tomorrow. It is cheaper with the other companies with a cheaper deductible it seems, well I'll see what he says and go from there.

I use "I take extreme care for my devices and know how to fix them should something happen to them insurance" for all insurance companies rip you off. I'll tell you my story with my HTC touch pro 2 that I had gotten replaced via insurance.....
(Short version)
Phone flew down steps landed on concrete floor. Turned into confetti.
Called asurion. 100 bucks for deductible. After paying over 200 in monthly bills.(could have bought a brand new one from eBay for 150 at the time, didn't realize this till after I replaced it)
Got replacement, didn't work. Got second replacement. Still didn't work. Got third replacement(was extremely pissed by now) and ripped apart both 2nd replacement and 3rd and combined all the good parts to make a good phone.
And ever since then, I will never waste my money on insurance for my phone. It's nothing but a waste of money.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Ya I understand all that lol. But I go out and camp, fish, go boating, drink, and house parties and what not (immature 23 year old) so I've used my insurance a few times; once with my G1 (stolen) twice with my MyTouch 3G (stolen, and then dropped which caused a weird ear piece sound while on call). So I like insurance and haven't been screwed over. Never had any issues with my G2X or the S3 so I've grown up a little and love my phones more now, haha.
I was going to ask the same thing but given that you asked it already, I'd like to see other responses. So far I've only had SquareTrade Warranty on multiple devices. I still haven't had to file a claim but the thing that I like is if I sell one of my devices, I can cancel my plan and get a prorated refund. I'm not sure if other companies do that.
I recently got my Samsung Galaxy S3 and haven't made a decision on what company to choose. Ensquared is cheaper and they claim to cover theft and accidental, all for $59 for 1 year. If anybody has dealt with them, can you please give us some insight?

Paying off my note 2?

So in nov I signed up with tmobile and got the note and a gs3 for my wife. I plan on selling the note and getting the s4 in march. I call tmobile to pay it off and they tell me I have to pay both phones off? This isn't what the agent told me when I signed up. He knew I swap phones about every 6 months. So my question is why can't I pay the note off separate? My wife never upgrades her phone plus it would lower my bill per month down. Tmobile is ending the subsidiaries anyways so I don't see what the issue is? The reason I went gsm is to be able to put any phone on the carrier as I like, such as international versions.
Talk to a different rep. Cause that rep is an asshole
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Nope just spoke to customer relations and was told it cannot be done until tmobile ends the subsidiaries in a few months. No way in hell I'm paying $700+ for both phones. Basically the rep I signed up with flat out lied to me. If I would of known this I would of just bought my note full retail. Really ticked off right now.
$720 for both phones + $600 or so for the s4 is just too much for me.
3rd damn carrier that seems to lure their customers in with lies. Who would refuse me paying off a phone today? Basically I was told their systems cannot allow only one device to be payed off until may when they change their policies. This is really going to screw over a lot of people. I just don't get it.
Can anyone explain tmobiles logic in this? I'm baffled.
I've heard that since it was Even More Plus. The credit line is for everything combined, you can't separate them out. No idea if that's the truth, but they have been consistent in telling me that. If you were lied to, that really sucks and, IMO, they should try to do something for you. No idea what, but they could offer something.
Not much help, but at least confirming what they are telling you now anyway.

Yeah I have it in writing too from the original kiosk rep. I'm really ticked as I talk to this guy all the time when I'm at the mall. Tmobile is investigating what he told me and I've notified his manger. This really screws anyone who wants to get another phone anytime before may. I just don't understand the logic. Why would they care if I decide to pay the device off? Now I'm screwed if I wanted to get the s4 in a few weeks unless I add a 3rd line.
Now I can see why so many go prepaid. To avoid all of the carrier BS. This is worse then what I dealt with on both sprint and Verizon.
There has to be a loophole for this. Any ideas guys?
It does make sense that the credit extended is put into one loan. I'm sure it makes it easier on the accounting for them....... BUT...... If that guy told you something different, I would go straight to him and have him help you get this sorted out immediately. He's the one that gave you misinformation, I would make him spend time working to correct it also.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
yeah, this really makes no sense to me why they would require this just because the phone accounts are linked? Just to be sure though, I'm going to make sure I buy my phone and my wife's phone separately.
Im told its becuase both phones were purchased together but that was becuase thats the day i switched from verizon to tmobile. The rep knew i switch devices often and told me it wouldnt be an issue. I got an email from the manager that they are investigating. If any of you bought the phones together id check on this. Im glad they are ending the pay per month on the phones BS. From now on ill pay full price.
This happened to me too. Opened a tmo business account and bought an S3 and a cheap text phone for the wife. Financed $500 between the two, and was told I could pay them off seperately. The note 2 comes out, so I go to pay the balance of the S3. I was told the same, you have to pay both off because they where contracted at ths same time. But I still had enough available credit to finance the note 2, swap the sim from the S3 in to the note 2, put the S3 on Craigslist, it sold the next day for the $400 balance I had on the note 2. Walked in to tmo the very next day and paid the note 2 off.
This is just an idea, I don't know for sure if it will work, but when I bought
my Note and my wife's phone, they told me that is no penalty if I pay
the phone(s) in advance OR if I pay more per month to shorten the pay
period of 20 months.
So, I guess you can go into the store and tell them you want to pay, let's say
$300 in the account for the phones. That will lower your montly payment, just
like you payed yours out and not "mess" with they're account number.
It's worth a try anyway....
Wait. So I have a $2000 credit on my account for devices. There's like $700 available. Your saying they won't let me pay a partial payment towards that?

You could do what I did. Pay the deposit on the new phone and finance the rest, sell the old phone, then pay off the new phone.

[DISCUSSION] How I swapped my S3 for LTE

Individual results may vary. I am not responsible for the device you gain/lose
Believe it or not, you may actually be able to swap your current S3 for the LTE Variant Right Now.
Let me give you some backstory:
I called my salesrep and asked about coming in to swap my HSPA variant S3 for the LTE variant. I simply explained that when I originally switched to TMO from Sprint, I started with the S2 due to money issues, but later swapped to the S3. Upon swapping, I SPECIFICALLY asked about this device getting LTE once the towers launch. He told me yes, whether it's a firmware push or already there, he wasn't quite sure, but assured me I'd get it. The salesrep told me he understands my concern and talked to his manager, I was on hold for about 5 minutes being asked random questions about my device; How long I've been a customer, phone color, etc. When he finally returned, he told me that because I'm out of my 30 day trial period, he cannot swap my device. Even with a restocking fee, he sadly could not bypass the system to do it, otherwise he would right there on the spot.
He told me to try and call TMO customer support and get through to Loyalty. So after thanking him and discussing LTE things, I went on my way.
I got a hold of this woman whom I did not remember to take down her name, but I started off by saying how amazing TMO is compared to Sprint. Customer service, support, coverage, and speed; when she told me she actually came from Sprint herself as a Rep. We joked for a bit about how slow Sprint was at rolling out towers compared to TMO and how pitiful the speeds were, and she tried to discourage me about swapping since there are new phones out there, LTE may not be available in my area, speeds may be minimal, etc. But she did say she'd transfer me anyway if I desired. I said sure, I may not qualify, but couldn't hurt to try. Here's where it gets interesting.
I got pushed through to Loyalty, and spoke to a gentleman named AJ, but the system has him down as Andrew. I again expressed my concerns and issues, and he said he completely understood. He proceeded to tell me that at the time, the salesrep I originally asked about LTE was technically right, at the time. (You all know how reps know little to nothing until a week or two until it's released.... and he confirmed this.) But it turned out it wasn't the case as a separate device was released.
He continued to tell me that He would be glad to send me another device, ALTHOUGH NOT GUARANTEEING it would be the LTE variant, but most likely being the case. He said that there was a 6 day back order at the moment and said once it's available, he'd overnight ship for no extra charge; although there is a chance it might be a Refurb. There was a 5$ fee of swapping or something, but said he'd waive it, and if by chance the device I got wasn't the LTE variant, I might be able to get it waived again and send it back and start over. I had 7 days upon receiving the device to mail either one back or be charged around 500$, I'm assuming the rest of the money I owe on my current device. If I sent either back with water or other damage, be charge about 130$, which I assume is a slightly higher deductible for the protection plan. I was told that upon receiving the device, it would have instructions how to setup and activate, as well as how to ship either device back.
Bottom line, you may be able to have the same happen to you. as I said at the top, results may vary, and I cannot be held responsible for which device you get and/or not backing up data before switching. Give it a try, I got lucky on the first try, maybe it's because I'm a new customer, try what I did and let the rest of us know. Once I get my new device I will of course report back and tell my results.
So basically a warranty exchange. You go to T-Mobile and tell them your "story" and for $5 they send you a refurbished (rarely new) phone and back cover, you send the back your phone and back cover.
So you haven't received the phone yet?
If you do get the LTE version, don't brick it, currently no way to unbrick it.

Sorry but this process is called a warranty exchange through Tmobile. Proof. I used to work for their call centers and processed a billion of these. Yes normally its 5$ if you have the insurance and anyone with the insurance gets the overnight shipping waived. . The chances of you getting a brand new t999l are lessthan 90% . proof: they'll send it to you in a white box where it will cone with instructions to return your "defective device" without battery and back cover. They told you that right. The "new device" will not come with a battery and back cover that's why they have you keep that stuff. Not to be rude but this is nothing special. There is a good chance you may get a t999l or just a regular t999 depending in their stock. Rarely do they send brand new units. You may get lucky though and they send you a new one but its rare. Good luck. Basically even if the t999l is new they use devices that people return or can be rwfurb to give back to those using warranty exchange.

Monkeypaws is correct.
Also, the device you receive will most likely give you more problems than you had with your original S3, T-Mobile will only do so much to a device to mark it as "refurbished". Who knows how many exchanges you'll go through until you are happy with an S3 that is issue free or a t999l with few problems.
Personally, I wouldn't waste the time or money on trying to get the the t999l, when my phone works and looks as it should. But who knows, you might end up being one of those lucky SOBs who get a t999l that is issue free.

Come on guys, just because you get a refurb doesn't mean its gonna give you problems, I have a refurb t999 and I have never had any problems, the only reason I got the refurb was because I messed something up on my previous s3.. OP is just trying to help those that were fooled by tmo employees that guaranteed them their s3 would get lte once it was rolled out.. I don't wanna make a big deal about this, but if lte is up and running in your area I think its definitely worth a try.. If you don't think its worth it then just don't worry about it and carry on

I agree with you. I went through 2 warranty exchanges with my sgs3. All awesome. Also the op was making it seem like this was a trick to get an LTE version when any rep can process this same exchange without going all the way to loyalty. I've also been lucky where loyalty actually sent me a new phone in sealed box but that was a special case where thru screwed up . I've also had it where they were out of stock on a certain color and sent me a new white sgs3 for my black.

I was unaware this is a common thing. But figures I'd offer my story anyway. Refurb or not, t999L is new, chances of having a serious issue on one is slim right?

If say slim. They do go through testing and making sure its working before they ship out. That is not to say there may be hardware issues that may happen but that is the same chance when buying a new device also. Samsung builds quality devices so I'd say not to worry. Check everything out as soon as you get it since you have seven days to return your older device out. My wife on the other hand went through more than 7 returns of a mytouch4g. Even loyalty couldn't help me there.

Not for nothing but im in nj and i have s3 without lte and my wife have s4 and about a month ago she begin getting lte and i dont see any diff with the speed actually i did a speedtest full bars on both n mine marked 25+mbps and hers 10mbps with her lte... Im happy with my s3 w/o lte , i can get the s4 anytime but s3 is working fine n my speed is great anywhere i go

If that's the average she sees when on lte, then something is very wrong. Lte should get an average of 30-40mbps as I'm aware. I've even seen people report over 50.

Most I've ever seen from hspa + I've seen is 15mbs on a good day. But that was only once. LTE offers faster upload... That's mainly the big difference besides penetration
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Lte is supposed to be blazing fast! The only place there may not be much difference is when you're comparing to HSPA+42. Its fast but still not as fast as lte.
On hspa I can generally get around 20mbps. But have seen peaks quite a bit higher.

I mostly get 23 down and 24 up with good signal strength on my Note 2. That is in the Seattle-Bellevue market.
I used to get 24 down and 3.5 up on HSPA+ (installing the LTE modem chopped my HSPA download performance down to 15 down typically). Where lte shines in my opinion is latency. Super low compared to HSPA+. My wife's S3 is still smoking fast on hspa, latency just sucks.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I dont really care for the T999L. Im happy with what I have. Here in Dallas, My friend have a AT&T S3 with LTE and he wasnt near as fast as mine.

Just an FYI, T-Mobile is out of S3 refurbs and so is Asurion. If you go through T-Mobile warranty exchange you will get a refurb T999. If you pay your deductible and go through Asurion, because of Asurions contract with you to provide you with a "comparable" device the fact they currently have no refurbs to send out means you will get a new in box S3 LTE - why? Because unlike T-Mobile, Asurion is required to have a low turn around for customers because you are paying the deductible and you've been billed monthly for the privilege.
Here's a tip though - break the phone, call Asurion from a landline or someone else's phone, make the claim, and use an older phone only AFTER you have reported it broken - if you do it beforehand, as soon as the IMEI changes in the system, that phone becomes the covered phone and its a ***** to deal with them in that situation.
Finally, none of this is worth it. The T999L is the same old technology on the at&t version and if you're going to pay the deductible, you might as well upgrade.

I'd like LTE cuz it sound so cool but I get 1.3-2 megaBYTES regularly so I really don't see the need for more speed...
Plus after the things my phone has seen... I really wouldn't want to use a refurbished one that someone else used.. I'll be getting the S5 :silly:

New Galaxy Note 3 came with a nick. What to do?

Its so small, yet noticeable. Paid the full price for the phone, but I'm thinking if I take it back, they'll think I did it. Just because its there, its driving me crazy. What would you guys do?

Basically, I'd like to know if I should return it. It's so small.
If you got it from an authorized retailer and you've only had it for a day or so I would bring it into the retail store and try to have it switched out. Call them first, be honest. Hopefully somebody decent will help you out or get authorization from a manager.
It will help if you have some sort of print out (order tracker details stating delivery date and time if shipped or receipt if bought in store) saying when you bought or received it. Call multiple stores until you get the answer you want. Be somewhat confident and aggressive that you paid good money for the phone and you deserve a minute t condition decide upon arrival.

Bought from a TMO corporate store, this morning.
Oh yea.. They should do it man. Read the edit, be direct, confident and respectful but demand what you paid for.

It depends on who you bought it from. If you boutch it from a retailer take it back they'll replace it. But if you didnt you may have a hard time returning it, much less getting a replacement from the same person. Thats why whenever I buy something ie ebay/craigslist/amazon, as soon as I get it I take pictures of it, with the same days newspaper in the picture so it validates the date. and i make sure they have pictures of it before the package it.

Bought at a TMO
I would take it back today. Same day with the nick almost guarantees a replacement even if they do think it was you. You probably lose 50 percent of your chances even by the second day and then from there you might be screwed.

Good point. Hopefully I'll have no problem. I'll report back. Is quality control on these phones pretty bad?
I don't think so I purchased an AT&T version and a tmobile version both were perfect. I haven't seen any complaints on the forums, although a few they seem to be very few and far between. Good luck I'm rootin for the little guy.
thank me dammit i probably helped you!!

Update: Ok I went to the T-Mobile store and they really hesitated to swap out my device. The girl had to call her manager. She did question if I did this, and I told her very humbly that I did not. She was like, well you had the device for 10 hours. Her manager then agreed to let her swap it out.
New device seems fine. No nicks on the bezel.
Hell yea buddy. I was very persistent with them and finally they sold me an sm_s900t with no service plan. It's funny though, I'm actually cancelling my att service tomm and headed to a T Mobile store to start using them as my new wireless carrier. I had no idea that their data plan was so good until today. Peace ATT. I've been with them for 5 years and I still pay 110 a month for my current plan. Better plan for $40 cheaper on
Congrats

Exactly my scenario. Using TMO on an unlocked att iphone 5S, they sucked. Using a TMO GN3, it's a whole another story. I'm using the $70 prepaid plan, but plan on porting my two att lines over soon. I am so sick of AT&T's locked boot loaders, and them throttling my data every month. What pisses me off the most is not everyone on the old unlimited data plan gets throttled. I was really shocked to see TMo LTE light up in so many places today. With one bar, I pulled 25 down. Yea att is faster, but who cares. Now I won't have to monitor my usage with my unlimited plan.
Yup that's the first thing on my to do list tomm. Att who? Never heard of em.
Should be no problem returning it
One of my buddies, we'll call him " Butterfingers" dropped his brand new T-mobile Note 3 2 hours after opening, while sitting in his room. It fell and slightly dinged a corner. He went to T-Mobile the next day and they overnight a new phone for him, no questions asked. LOL
Glad it worked out for you.
