Gmail app push isn't working - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Gmail app is not delivering mails via push. Everytime (at least 80% of the times) I have to pull manually and sync to receive new mails. I have already configured sync via accounts and my accound with notifications (inbox+priority mail).
I had already tried uninstalling, deleting cache, reinstalling, loging out, etc.
Any idea? I prefer gmail own app rather than samsung's... the only difference is that samsung's let me the option to configure as exchange.

I have SEVERAL accounts that are supposed to sync, but I seem to get a flood of mail when I reboot...

Gmail Exchange ActiveSync: Mail not deleting when I "Refresh"

I'm using Gmail Exchange ActiveSync and the HTC Mail App, because:
1. The Gmail App seems to be either Push Mail (Constant) or Manual (Menu --> Refresh), whereas I'd prefer it to check for me once an hour.
2. I dislike the Gmail interface
But when I click "Refresh", mail I've deleted via IMAP in Outlook or the Webmail doesn't disappear. It does download new mail though. This link:
http://email.about.com/od/iphonemailtips/qt/Set_Up_Push_Gmail_in_iPhone_Mail.htm
Refers to using Gmail Exchange ActiveSync on the iPhone, says:
"* To delete a message, move it to the [Gmail]/Trash folder.
* To archive a message, delete it from the Inbox or move it to [Gmail]/All Mail."
I don't mind if pressing DELETE Archives or Deletes the message but surely this isn't correct? Both the Gmail App and IMAP delete mail when you click "Refresh" (that have been deleted elsewhere). I shouldn't have to "Manually" delete mail, I've already deleted elsewhere.
Surely this does too?
Thanks
It's suddenly starting working. I must say Sync using Exchange ActiveSync is very hit and miss!
Last night I was finding it was trying to Sync (the white sync circle) for 5-10 minutes+, despite using Wireless and it only having to update 1-2 e-mail differences. I gave up in the end .
It's now not downloading mail in folders other than the Inbox!
I've had to move mail out, refresh, move it back in and then refresh again, it then downloads the mail but this is tricky to do for Sent Items. If it's still playing up tomorrow, I think I'll switch to IMAP. What a mess:
1. Google Sync: Has no ability to say how often it downloads mail. You either have to accept "Push Mail" (and the extra battery it needs) or Manually click Refresh
2. Gmail Exchange ActiveSync: Is proving very unreliable
Annoyingly IMAP doesn't offer Contacts/Calendar Sync, so I'll still have use one of the above methods for these two. Probably Google Sync, as Exchange ActiveSync will create a redundant Mailbox. Hopefully only Real-time Syncing Calendar/Contacts won't have too much draw on battery. I'm pretty sure it's the Mail part that does this.
Now it won't download anything in my Sent Items and instead just re-downloads the same e-mail, that isn't even in Sent Items any more!
IMO Gmail's (Beta) Exchange ActiveSync is well and truly broken! I'm off to re-configure (for the more basic but reliable) IMAP.
IMAP for me too, works well without any issues
IMAP is so much more reliable than Exchange ActiveSync. It's annoying it doesn't sync Calendar/Contacts too though.
I'm using Google Sync for those two, hopefully battery won't be hammered too much. I'm pretty sure it's E-Mail (not Calendar/Contacts) that does this, when Push is enabled.

[Q] GMail App does not auto Sync, not push

Hey there
I have a rather annoying issue since I switched to froyo (proper OTA) with my gmail app:
it does not auto-sync, nor tell me instantly when a new mail arrives. Actually, it only tells me, when I manually sync the accounts.
I reckon to have set it up the right way*, rebooted the device, deleted and re-added the accounts, but still no notifications when I receive mails.
Yet, is there maybe any point I missed?
Thanks
*Application's allowed to sync data all the time; allowed to sync automatically; accounts set to sync their mail
Do you have more than one Google account set up on the phone?
If so, this is a known issue

Gmail just doesn't sync

I recently installed revolution rom 5.0 but gmail sync was working fine then all of a sudden this morning I stopped recieving emails in the gmail app, I have to actualy open the app and hit refresh to get my emails, all the settings are correctly configured and I already tried deleting cache, removing account, etc.
Any idea if this may be a gmail server issue instead?

GMAIL Sync Issue

Stock ROM, Gmail stopped syncing. No more email comes in unless I manually go and hit refresh in the Gmail app, or go to settings and force sync it. This just started happening. Have the phone for almost a month without any issues, then as of say an hour ago, it just stopped syncing emails. No error messages in the sync menu. Normally if there is an issue with sync, there is a red exclamation mark stating an issue, but there isn't any. It just shows that Gmail was last synced at the last time I manually synced it.
Any thoughts?
Upon further testing, I see that Gmail does have an active connection to the server. If I mark an email unread in Gmail, it immediately reflects on the Gmail client in the Note II. If I send a test email, my Gmail.com shows the new email, but the Note II Gmail app does not until I manually sync it. It's very weird.
Clear data. Should work.
also you might try opening up your settings in gmail, and go through those settings. There is an option there to have gmail sync on or off. I was going to suggest clear data in the gmail app, but that already been suggested.
I used to have this problem frequently on my last phone. I never found a permanent fix but did notice that somehow the settings in gmail would change by themselves and gmail sync on/off was one of them as well as the one where you can decide to let it notify you for every email or just once for the initial email.

+1 -- usually fixes issues.

[Q] Push mail

I have not been able to get mail pushed in almost 3 weeks. I always have to manually retrieve/refresh. I have tried using the native email and the gmail app but neither have any push option. I have sync on (both inside the email options and inside the Accounts Sync), power saver is OFF.
Has anyone else been able to consistantly have their yahoo and gmail email accounts pushed to this phone?

I use K-9 and would recommend trying that for your email. I went ahead and tested with my Gmail account and personal account. The default email app didn't push my personal account or my gmail account. I turned on sync for Gmail and after a couple minutes syncing, I then sent a test message on computer and received notification within seconds on phone.
I installed aqua mail last night and so far push is working like it should. Thanks for responding.
