Good GB rom/battery not lasting???? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

(Mods not sure if this should be in Q&A or in general but the title is in form of a question so i thought here. Move it if you like...)
Theres a sticky for a reason but many for some reason dont like to use it also there is a search bar but it seems invisible to some...
Two question that keep coming up alot are a GOOD GB rom and battery life i know im just adding to it but just had to :
If your looking for a Good custom GB EL29 rom that has good Gps, battery life etc..
the two that everyone recommend are
Calks EL 29 GB rom which has many features which include hacked 3g, 4g hotspot hacked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837
The other one is
Phantoms Blazer 4.1 GB Rom
(currently looking for active download location will post as soon as i find it . if anyone has it or knows a good download link please post it.)
battery life issues?
My battery life is starting to last less and less?
My phone says 90% battery life and then suddenly it shuts down without showing the animation?
My phone says battery life 80% and then shuts off and after i restart it , it will say 20%
Many of these problems are cause by a bad battery. many of us have had this phone for a lil bit over a year and the battery starts to go out.
especially with all the flashing we do..
Solution?: take your battery out of the phone and place it on top of a desk or counter and see if it lies flat. If it doesnt and it looks kind of bulgy its because its done. You need a new battery .

FYI: First... anything... I've heard from Sprint on this:

Initial findings from the Reverse Logistics team (i.e. where stores send things back to when issues arise) are inconclusive. Samsung and Sprint are currently investigating batteries and devices that stores have sent back for the cause of the issues. I don't have any sort of ETA.
Many of the phones with swollen batteris that I have personally seen also have had other signs of abuse however, this includes things like humidity and heat/cold exposure, drops, cracks, etc. that could cause issues and result in potentially variable voltage from the battery or through the circuitry on the phone.

I didnt state that that is the only reason for a bad battery. It is one of the main reasons though. Thats the problem im having right now i already ordered a new battery. I flash a new rom on a constant basis even if the one im currently using is a DD. Ive walked in to many sprint corporate repair centers and when you tell them the issue you are having the first thing they do is pull out the battery. Samsung has 18month warranty on the battery but sprint wont replace it. They want you to contact samsung directly.

Sorry if you thought my post on Sprint was bringing up you specifically... it was actually a more generic observation based on the many threads that have popped up over the past few months. Instead of making a new thread just for that response I figured yours may be the best to drop that info on. No need to clog up the forums more

TP2 Android biggest disapointments... ---> BATTERY METER

Very very thankyou ppls for your hard work... i really appreciate the hard work of the devs.. but can some1 tell me that when the battery metter is fixing.....i only bought this to use android on it but due to unstable battery indcator i m not able to properly get the fun of android on this device.....seriously i have no intrest to use winmo..i liked the keyboard and read that its android compatiable so i bought it .... i know some ppls will say that go buy something else ..... all i need is battery fix and i think many of the ppls here will agree with me....well i for me i m w8ing more 15 days to see if the proper battery fix appears then i will continue it else i will go for Motorola Milestone...i m not saying that these ppls are not working .. all i m saying that all we need is a battery fix with Wifi
w8ing for the ppls opinions
Thanks
honestly man, whats the point of this post? The devs know whats working and what isn't and I'm sure they're working on fixing and improving things. The fact that you can even boot up and run Android on a Windows Mobile phone shows the dedication and work they've put into this so far, its just a matter of work and time until everything is working, have faith and wait it out
dont be surprised if u start gettin some negative responses.
first off, the battery fix wrks great and is very accurate. there must b something u not doing right. i even posted my initial battery readings in the thread with this new build. actually the battery fix is almost dead accurate. i got 8+ hrs. outta of it yesterday. with overclock, with constant use. so nonoverclocked build will probaly bring even longer use.
second, wifi wrks perfectly.
third, why would u buy a device just to run a project build then if u wanted everything wrking? i understand the keyboard thing but unless u got ur device on a good ass deal, kind of silly to buy it just to run something not even fully completed yet. come on now.
Fourth, b4 u bought ur device, did u thoroughly read everything going on with this build or u just jumped in head first?
this is why so many people getting flamed cuz they dont do the research or homework. then come on here posting about why this or that isnt wrking. or what ASSUMPTIONS they have.
dont take this post the wrong way cuz this will probaly be one of the nicer posts towards u. lmfao juss way too many people jumping in and complaining when they wouldve already known the known issues with the build. which in ur case is incorrect. there has to be something u did wrong.
these are questions to ask self why batter fix and wifi not wrking for u.
Am i using the latest builds? Did i thoroughly follow instructions on installing it? Did i install the build with the battery fix in it? Did I break my battery fix by updating the zImage and modules?(which will break the battery fix). if thats not the case, then, Did i update the latest roofts and inirtd files? Did i even troubleshoot the problems b4 posting saying they dont wrk? lol
im not trying to sound like a dckhead..lmfao but im sure the developers would say the same thing basically.
they might have to implement what they doing on the other threads now. if u dont have a certain number of posts, then dont download and try out builds with doing the research first. a moderator stepped in and said that. cuz way too many people complaining about stuff thats already known or complaining about stuff that wrks but they didnt do it correctly.
food for thought, try the latest build. then DO NOT UPDATE THE ZIMAGE AND MODULES AFTERWARDS. only update the roofts and inirtd files.
if u need help getting it running right, let me know. ill be more thn happy to help or assist u, seriously. srry to sound cranky, just woke up n stressed about other things in life..lol
good luck

3rd..well i got 2 options 1 was TP2 and 2nd was Motorola milestone ... well i dont like to milestone keyboard but i forgot that it was way slimmer then tp2 / also compatiable with new builds by defualt...well i was tp2 in local market then came to xda and saw the thread about android and just go for it.. as seeing the progress i thought that it will be fixed soon...now i cant tolarate windows-mo anymore just want to go to the android again asap...so i started this thread...
4th well i readed all the faqs / tips everything before buying tp2...like 50%

Would you all kindly stop being illiterate? English words are made of letters not numbers.
On topic, jamb, you could have dropped the silly threats (Imma buy another phone) and just asked the question.
Considering this phone wasn't intended to even run android..... and you bought it without clearly reading through and seeing what was working and what wasn't... yeah I can see peoples frustrations with your question.
Your best bet, as I'm sure you know, if you wanted a perfectly working andoid phone was to buy one that was designed for it OR at least play with someones touch pro 2 who has android running on it so you would know what to expect.
It's called development for a reason, its still on going and there is still a LOT of work to be done and no one knows time frames on this. It's like asking when we're going to mars (all be it that might be a very dramatic example)
Regarding the battery. As was discussed... there is a fix and if it isn't working for you then you aren't doing something right. It's accurate and thats all anyone can hope for. As far as becoming warm. Well it probably has something to do with what you are using on your phone. Internet, GPS, etc etc... all at once. overclocking it is a big culprit for the warmness of phones. The more you tax the phone the more it will become warm.
It wont 'ruin' your batter by using the phone... Just be patient and understand that these fixes could come out tomorrow or could never come! Just what it is.

Your title isn't so much directed at andoid as it is the people who spend hours and hours and hours developing a working version for our phone. So, yes it can be taken as being insulting, with that people are going to see this post and think "who is this guy?"

My battery meter seems to be working just dandy. I did a test yesterday and it was dead on. When in Android I looked at the battery meter and it was about 3/4 full. I opened spare parts and it was at 64%. I then rebooted the phone into WM (6.5, energy ROM) and opened tbattery and it was at 64%
I chared my phone to 100% yester afternoon around 5pm and after heavy use; 5 minutes twitter updates, constant facebook, automaticl gmail check, and non-stop text, I'm still sitting around 50%.
The work they are doing is awesome.

Any battery meter needs to have several complete charge/recharge cycles to be completely accurate (charge phone to 100%, drain until it powers off by itself, repeat at least 3 times). So I would think Android on the TP2 is no different.
Anyway, if the OP got the message that the TP2 is "Andriod compatible", that that was the wrong impression, or at least an overstatement. This is an ongoing project. Given, one where some great folks are putting in tons of work and doing a wonderful job (and much appreciated). But its not perfect, and not the same as a phone which natively runs Android. If that was the OPs intent, then big mistake and he should have done more research before buying.
And its always been posted that the battery meter has issues. I don't know how he could puurchase a TP2 for android and didn't even read the 1st post of the thread.

Anyone tried buying those larger batteries off ebay? I saw one that's lager but isn't larger in size where you'd need a new back case.
How much difference is 1800mAh compared to 1500mAh anyway? Another hour of life?

2nd well i got 2 options motorola milestone(totally android ) or htc tp2 .. i was not into motorola devices so readed about tp2 is compatible ..well in my country only 5 or 6% ppls use other brand otherwise the remaining ppls use nokia or samsung so i wasnt able to use tp2 before the only option i got was to use it personally .....
i know that many many works need to be done...

Whats going on with peoples Evo???

Wondering what's going on with peoples Evo lately... Mine stopped working for 3 hours then came back on.... I went to sleep this morning and left it on the USB charger...Woke up and noticed that my supersonic was off and went through the normal routine of trying to get it back on..(battery pull, tried booting into recovery, pulled SD card, tried different charger) all to no avail.... Get to the store and the tech tells me my battery is deformed (even told me to feel the buldge, which I did not feel). Their solution was for me to by a new battery...they wouldn't replace and im covered with the TEP....just as I was about to purchase the extended battery cause they didnt have the stock battery, I push the power button and my phone boots... Walked out the store baffled but the phone has been working ever since...
I been reading similar stories and my simple question is what the hell is going on...

Probably something with the kernel, that seems to be the common denominator so far.
Almost all of us hack our phones in some way: rooting, flashing roms, flashing kernels, adding programs (like hulu, wireless tether), etc etc. Since our battery life sucks anyway, many of us charge our phones multiple times per day. Li-Ion batteries aren't exactly known for their stability. If you Google it, you'll find that they've been acting funny and blowing up for nearly a decade (the oldest news story I could find dated back to 2002).
Since we run our phones really hard, sometimes the battery bugs out for a little while, or dies completely. It was recently blamed on SBC kernels, but we're talking a very small percentage of users experiencing problems. However, it's the nature of the beast that sometimes the phone just has a mild heart attack and comas out for a bit. I would still replace the battery or at least take it easy on flashing things for a little while.
As our phone grows older, we have more and more options on what to do with it...and that's just super but over-flash too much and one line of code doesn't make it and boom, your phone doesn't turn on for 3 hours. Software is a fickle *****, so have fun but be cautious. Always check your logcats and battery monitors.
Thanks for this very logical explanation... Ordered new battery just in case....and will take heed to your recommendations..

Just saw you said your battery was deformed... yeah, that's why you don't use kernels with sbc. It's pretty stupid to honestly.
Check out a video on youtube of what they can do when overcharged.
And definitely get rid of that battery. That's not something you want to be using.

maybe you should enlighten him that batteries aren't perfect nor are they any where near invincible, they come and go, just like cars, just like power supplies, just like anything. Relax with the NAZI, "SBC OMGGGGGGGG" that's all, it's every thread and it's all opinionated. And no, I'm not going to argue with 4.2 charge full dangerous 4.3 read this site, then dip your oreo while doing a kickflip, no, just relax with the opinions that's all...

The "battery bug"?

I recently got my Droid Incredible and while researching I came across many topics on google about the "battery bug" in which various sites and forum posts report that the dinc doesn't charge all the way when it is turned on. There have been many supposed workarounds to get around the issue, which you guys probably already know, mostly involves turning off the phone after the phone reports that it is charged to 100%.
In any case, I was searching around this board and didn't find to much topics about this here, granted I only searched up to February. Does the bug actually exist or is it the battery management function that drains that falsely reports the 100% that I read in another topic here?
But suppose that it is real, are there any permanent fixes to this issue, such as through custom roms and/or kernals?
Sorry if this has been asked (a million times) before. Thought I'd get the best answer by creating a new topic. Thanks for the read.

Just so I don't completely waste this topic, I'll ask my other question here: If I got a replacement for my dinc, how likely is it going to have some bad backlight bleeding? The one I have right now bleeds noticeably from the top and a little from the bottom.

If that is your only problem I wouldn't recommend playing the roulette game that is Verizon's Certified Like New program. There is little to no quality control and I managed to get 2 Incredibles that were completely unusable before finally getting one that worked at all.

Hmm, I'm actually not sure about that situation, I would demand it if I were you. But I can promise if you get outside of the 14 day return period you won't get anything but used, and a little light leakage is nothing compared to what you might end up with.

Rooted Kernels and Loss of Service

We're trying to determine the "root" (pun intended) of the problem so if you wanna come in here and start a fight go find a local bar to do so. We need to try and locate the source of the problem so either post something useful or walk away.
There seems to be some confusion and I dont know if its being ignored or what but theres an issue with these kernels that needs to be looked into further before new ones continue to be released.
Theres an obvious problem for a good amount of people and everytime I look I see comments that there isnt a problem. So heres everything I could quickly find regarding it.
Now Im not trying to be a **** about this but I dont get how the issue is unheard of when its one of the biggest topics in this section. And so we're clear, this is happening in ALL kernels. Unfortunately its been more profound in Zedos because it seems more people went with his method.
All Im asking is before more and more kernels are released that someone at least acknowledge the problem and see if it can be addressed before more and more people root and start complaining because they were told there was no LO.S. bug

Everything seemed to be fine last night but today I've had 4 separate times now where my phone has lost signal all together and needed to be rebooted to get phone/data back. When this has happened I tried going into About-->Status to see if I could see anything odd and I kept getting a FC of com.android.phone

Got the no signal issue here too. I put it in airplane mode overnight and upon waking this morning the no signal circle was there. I had to do a reboot to get 3g and cell signal back.
Looking forward to seeing this process develop.

Yeah this just happened to me too, everything was fine this morning then I played a game of solitaire and after going back to my home screen I saw the circle. Rebooted phone and everything came back on. It's possible that the circle was there before I played the game of solitaire but I didn't notice until right after I quit playing.
Hopefully it gets straightened out soon. At least rebooting fixes the problem, I can handle rebooting for a little while if needed.

I can't really deal with the issue of having no service. My daughter has a heart issue and can't afford to miss a call. It's not like I walk around all day literally looking at my phone's screen seeing if I have service or not.
I did reboot...so like your's my service is back up.
But I definitely hope this gets fixed soon. I'd rather have root with broken heptic feedback than the inability to receive calls.
But I'm sure the Op the get it fixed...

I've had a dead call issue and also tday my radios were just dead and there was a circle in the middle of the notification barr. A reboot fixed the issues each time, but I think it might be a problem. I thing newer kernels will also fix said issues. Still very satisfied

I'm giving this one a try because with the zedomax kernel I kept losing 3G and CDMA calling and not even noticing it unless someone told me they'd been trying to reach me for hours. A quick reboot would solve the issue but then it would happen again.
I'll report back and let you guys know if this one is giving me the same issue.

Telling you right now someone is going to come in here and go "this belongs in General" then a mod will move your thread and deduct 5 points from something, not sure...but just a heads up
I also see a lot of people having issues, but I'm now on day 2 of flashing Zedo V1 and have yet to experience any of these issues. Not sure what I did different, but everything just works... The only thing I did was after rooting was getting my MSL from Sprint and erased the proxy servers in the ##3282 menu.
EDIT: Ok, I just lost service 1 1/2 day after rooting... Bug finally hit me..
I dont mind it being moved and I have no clue what the deduction in "points" does but I'll deal with it.
Now Im getting much better battery but I know people are still losing service on the new OC kernel. My roommate happens to be on e the unlucky ones.
Man...thanks for posting this. Hopefully the mod doesn't close this thread. This definitely is a concern and a serious matter. I don't care if these kernels are, "use at your own risk" these kernels should've been listed as betas, and/or the bugs should've been listed and further testing should have been. If those steps were taken, I bet a lot of people would've held back from flashing them. I know I would have.

One thing that got to me was this morning I woke up, hoping to see a stock kernel and/or a way to return to stock. And instead, I see a new overclockable kernel. To me that's just not right. I think that you have to prioritize. That's like putting out a rom that has all data broke. Then instead of fixing it, you put out another rom...while disregarding the issues with the first rom. At least acknowledge the issue and let everyone know it's been worked on....don't just blow it off.
I know some of the devs over in the Evo forums was good about this....if something went haywire with one of their roms or mods...they were all on top of it to get the issue fixed and they also communicated with posting updates on the matter.
Like I said, hopefully the mods don't close this.
I'm definately gonna follow this thread...thanks Wingzfan
i rooted yesterday using zedomax method, did the OC kernel last night.. havent had any issues so far ..

Bubby does have the stock kernel pulled. I was testing it till 1:30 in the morning but he's gotta recompile it. It was bootlooping so today thats his first order of business.
As for the kernels, I flashed it by choice. I dont blame the devs for ANYTHING, Im just saying acknowledge theres a bug and lets see how to resolve it.
I've been reading through the rooted kernel threads as well prior to jumping on the root wagon and have seen several people mention that they are not rooted and have experienced the loss of service so it seems that the issue may not be exclusive to the rooted kernels...possibly a Samsung bug?
Very possible which is why im hoping we can get an idea of how man people are rooted vs non rooted having it. Now the only thing is I cant find any complaints online about nonrooted phones doing it except a few here and youd think it'd be widely discussed

Yeah...I read those too. However, I never lost any service at home with any android phone I've owned..Nexus S 4g, all Evo's, Epics etc. Then today I wake up and I have no service....maybe it is a samsung bug, but I'd rather return to stock myself to see if the issue was still there.
Stocks on its way i promise. Probly tonight actually. Bubby was really close last night. Once we get that Id be curious to see what happens.

This is an issue that started with mine also yesterday. But not only did I lose data but gps also. A reboot fixed it but I would like to know whats going on. I just came from the evo 3d and there was an issue that had to do with the prl so I am going to give that a shot with the 11115 prl that fixed the evo. Will post back with the results later today.
On V5, Ive only had the loss of data once in about 12 hours, versus about 3 times on Zedo V1.
I also did http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17703908&postcount=11 for the hell of it to see if that helped (even though I got it at a sprint store)
For the record:
A) People have reported this issue even on the stock kernel. It is not clear where the cause is.
B) For kicks (and because it cannot hurt) I did the whole profile/PRL update thing that someone suggested. Be it luck or real benefit, I have no had the issue since.

I would think it would be widely discussed as well so that seems odd. I'm waiting to see what evolves or at least for stock kernel (an undo) before flashing a rooted one. I don't have TEP.
It's still a bit early for the issue to be too widely discussed.

Nice. I was told by a helpful Sprint cust. serv. rep. a while back that you should update your PRL & Profile when you go into a new area (tavel, move, or even long commute to work) regardless of which phone you have. I would think unboxing your phone would qualify as well. It sure couldn't hurt.

Good point. Many people would not likely research on the web/forums, instead they'd likely address the issue directly with Sprint.

Ever owned a Samsung phone before?
This is my 3rd one and I swore after the last one Id never buy a Samsung phone again but I got sucked back in. Samsung is notorious for shipping phones with all kinds of bugs that should be considered showstoppers then pushing out fixes months later.
It would not surprise me at all if that was the case here. I am one of the ones having this issue and I am not rooted. Ive lost data several times after hanging up a call. The data never restores and I have to toggle 3G to get it come back.
I dont think this is a kernel issue. I think its something to do with the rest of the OS, either that or the kernel is a different problem thats just acting the same way.
Ok thats what i was hoping to find is nonrooted and rooted people who are having the issue. Now on my moment this issue was huge so i went to htc and maybe thats the case again. Maybe sammy dropped the ball again. Question is what can be done about it.

How to get firmware to increase my Note 4 battery life...?

Ok, " there's a disturbance in the force" :silly: so I am new to the world of phone hacks, tips, tricks, and repairs. I am pretty good with PC's and Laptops but phones are a new venture. I currently own a Galaxy Note 4 from AT&T. It is mine I have full admin access to all features etc... It has never been rooted or switched roms. I had a note 4 about 2 years back and noticed the battery started dying very quickly. I thought it was just the batteries time to go. So I just upgraded and got rid of it. After feeling nostalgic, I got another one and sure as rain, it was draining fast. I bought another battery even bigger Mah. and still fast drain. My father who works for AT&T advised me that there was a patch or update secretly sent out by Samsung that causes this problem due to their exploding battery issue to avoid any more law suits. My father also informed me that if I brought my firmware back to KIT-KAT 4.4.2 and disabled ATT or Samsung updates that this will restore the batteries longevity. I need to know how to do this. I have looked on XDA for answers but I find only parts and they seem unclear or incomplete for what I am trying to do. Is there a way to do this? if so how? please understand I am no phone guru. but if the instructions are clear to follow I can most certainly get this done. I'd like to thank everyone who has read this, and special thanks in advance to the person able to provide the information I need.

Have you checked to see if there apps that are draining your batteries more than the others?
Also, since your father works for ATT, would there be a chance to ask for the bootloader unlock for the N910A? That way, we can use custom ROMs and kernels which might provide us with the solution for lengthening the battery life and improving the performance of our device!
Thank you for the reply. I got this bone stock. I have added no extra apps onto it. I have even removed and or shut off apps that I will not be using. I have also dimmed the display, etc... as far as unlocking the bootloader info. The only information he was able to pull up is the newest Droid version. He doesn't have access to anything else their systems for employees are basically hyperlinks for problem-solving network and simple issues. he is the one who directed me here. sorry, i couldn't help with that. Moreover, he has to be careful what he does. He is not supposed to help friends or family with any services or he gets terminated..!!! This is what I have gathered from scowering the internet. back all my files up EFS File most important. Then use odin to flash the 4.4.2 kit-kat firmware. then block all samsung or att updates. blocking the updates I do not know how to do. flashing the firmware I can do!!!
If your phone is running Android 5.1.1 or or newer, then I don't think it can be downgraded to KitKat. It would probably be better for you to just try to figure out what is draining your battery. Check the battery information in settings, or if you want more detail then get get GSAM Battery Monitor or Better Battery Stats in the Play store.
