QSlide from Optimus G - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Anyone planning to port QSlide over to the N4 from the Optimus G?

What is it?

lol. its a multitasking solution that overlays one app (transparently) on top of another. check it out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM4dFVzpRFk
I know it's part of LG's UI (kind of like the multitasking in HTC's sense), but didn't know how difficult it would be to port it over to AOSP... it's pretty cool - you can change the level of transparency and do stuff like text while watching movies, etc.

Oh yeah I remember watching that video now. My guess is it's reliant on some sort of LG framework but that hasn't stopped people before. Unfortunately it's well out of my knowledge range

Yea that's what i was thinking too, sort of like how tmobile's WiFi calling is reliant on TouchWiz (i shudder at the mere sight of that word) framework.

Now if someone could port WiFi calling to the N4, i think I'd come in my pants.

T-Mobile's WiFi calling is integrated into their touchwiz ui, which is why it could never be ported to any aosp-based ROMs. Pretty sure it's closed source, so it would have to be reverse engineered or rewritten from scratch. Don't know how difficult that would be. I know that for people without unlimited minute plans on T-Mobile, minutes for calls are deducted even if you're using WiFi calling, and if it was open source this could be bypassed (i think that's why they integrated it into touchwiz).
Anyway, i digress. I'm not doubting that you used WiFi calling on your mytouch as it's a T-Mobile device and was probably running a touchwiz ROM.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Touchwiz is a Samsung thing, not T-Mobile.
The MyTouch is an HTC phone. Again, Touchwiz is a Samsung thing. The HTC One S has WiFi calling as well. Guess what it's running..? Not Touchwiz.
And an FYI, WiFi calling was ported to AOSP roms for the G2 which, again, is NOT a Touchwiz device.

Apparently not. Whatever.
Regardless, qslide and WiFi calling would be pretty sweet on this phone.

I want qslide, wifi calling, multi window, htc sense, this that and the other, anything else?
Its one thing porting over apps, but features that dig deep into the oem's framework... forgetaboutit.

Actually the reason i started this thread is that i didn't know how deep into the optimus g's framework qslide dug. By no means did i ever demand it.

Why does everyone hate the Droid X2?

Title says it all.
The specs of the X2 are a lot better than the DInc2's, so why does everyone dislike it over the DInc2?
Is it because of how hard it is to root?

I don't think that it's the locked bootloader that's the issue since there's plenty of people who use their smartphones without ever rooting their phones. Rather, I heard that the Motorola Droid X2 has a lot of hardware/software issues that always occurs at some point in its lifespan. Specs don't mean anything especially if support is terrible. Some of our wonderful people here in the Dinc2 community can tell you more about it.
this would probably be a better post in android general, as i havent noticed any particular amount of hatred towards other phones in the inc2 subforum
personally though? i wont buy moto devices until the stop encrypting their bootloaders....but even then i hate blur so i probably wouldnt
my take
if you only use aosp: get a nexus device
if you like sense/aosp: get htc device
if you like tw/aosp: get a samsung device
Blur sucks.
I had a Droid x2 it can't play music without pops and cracks drove me crazy. Also can't go into recovery without being plugged in to wall charger. Battery bugs. Random reboots .

I had a DX2 prior to getting the Inc2 and the main reason I switched was the lack of an unlocked bootloader which hampers any kernel modifications and slows down ROM development. However, I will say that the radio in the DX2 was much clearer than the Inc2 and performance (stock vs. stock) was better.
In addition, you can hack the 3G radio in Motorola phones (via the radiocomm utility) which will grant you unlimited wi-ifi tethering via the stock hotspot application without Verizon knowing about it. This is real useful as other tethering programs have limitations (e.g, usb only, need to run in adhoc mode, etc.). This hack won't work with the new 4G LTE phones.

Only thing i'm missing is WiFi calling.

My wifi minutes are unlimited. The benefit is that my house gets like .5 bars and voice calls can't be answered made here. It's also good because wifi calling shuts off the cell antenna.

It depends on your calling plan. If you have at least a "value" plan, and I'm guessing a classic one as well, then minutes don't come out of your bucket. If you have an older grandfathered plan it comes out of your bucket.
The feature is free for any plan, even for prepaid ones.

If that's the stock ROM then IDK, but otherwise that's most likely due to it being ported or something. Regardless, there's no LTE-capable chipset in the phone, so it's never going to have LTE. Just like LTE phones can't connect to the current WiMAX network.Sorry to burst your bubble.
im on FL16 deodexed. but its not even possible then i aint gonna lie i had a sudden rush of excitement lol
In order to use 4g lte, it runs off a sim card which our phones do not have... Itll never happen

Suspicion is this, like the wallpapers and ripple effect, are just "leftovers" from the GS3 JB build when it was ported over to ours. It's been there since the engineering build and does nothing.

Any word on premium features

Any word on premium features coming to the phone after s4 release. I'm not blown away with s4, so I might try to make it one more phone cycle.
Also, any way to get a bit more out of the camera? That's been my biggest disappoint with the phone. I know the s4 has a better sensor, but from what I'm reading, it's processing is not stellar.

Kind of cool that Sprint is releasing this on S4 day. Its in their best interests, since very very few S3 users will upgrade...just some of the devs and fanboys, I suppose.
Once I get it, I could care less about the S4.

All phones have SV4G/WiFi be they LTE or WiMax. And yes SVDO is going the way of the dodo as the new 1x-advanced band will allow for SV3G without the added hardware.

Bigger screen, I like the back button design, hardware that will keep up with other phones for quite a while.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Given LG's history of releasing a new flagship device every 6 months and quickly forgetting about their previous flagship phones when it comes to software updates, Nexus 5. (It'll feel newer longer.)
The Nexus 5 is GSM and CDMA compatible; higher resale value down the line.
While the Nexus 5 has a smaller battery, the built-in wireless charging capability (also featured on the Verizon LG G2) means occasional top-ups throughout the day are easy and convenient. While the wireless charging pads don't come with the Nexus 5, the price difference between it and the G2 mean you can afford at least two (one for work and one for home).
If you're considering a mobile provider that gives you a discount for not subsidizing a phone, the Nexus 5's retail price of $349/399 (16/32GB) versus the LG G2's ~$600 can save you a lot of money over the course of your carrier's contract.
TL;DR: Unless you need the 3000mAh battery, 5.2" screen, IR blaster, or moar megapixels... I'd advise the Nexus 5.

You'd be getting a sprint variant presumably right? The LS980 dev forums could use a little pick me up, roms are being built for multiple variants in one, and while thats cool and all, it would be nice to see LS980 specific roms/kernels. Since the N5 community is over saturated to be honest, another dev wouldn't matter much on the N5 seeing as everything over there has been built or is in the process. On the G2 however a new dev would be more appreciated seeing as there only a handful comparatively speaking of devs working on the sprint variant, hope this gives you some help on your decision!

I love being able to contribute by building ROMs, but I have been super busy with life and work. I am happy with my decision to get the optimus g, but with 4.4 ROMs and most ROMs in general being glitchy it really makes me want the nexus so I can be constantly updated without many issues. I agree that the nexus won't need anymore devs, but maybe that's not a bad thing for me. I already feel bad when I don't have enough time to get something out to you guys.

I'd think it fitting to do exactly and only what is right for you, and no one else.
As to voice + data services, these vary by region of the country. It took 2 years where I live for Sprint to go from selling 4G LTE phones and charging for them monthly to actually delivering on it. Now, I couldn't be happier with the data and voice quality (though voice has never been an issue where I reside).
T-Mobile may be great where you live, and based on what you've stated about wanting time for you and wanting a trouble-free update experience, go with the Nexus 5 and be done with it.
I wish you luck.

I'd think it fitting to do exactly and only what is right for you, and no one else.

I appreciate all the opinions and thoughts. I ended up going with the nexus 5 on t mobile. I did the jump program so maybe in 6 months if I have the urge to contribute more I will try something different.
