Why does everyone hate the Droid X2? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Title says it all.
The specs of the X2 are a lot better than the DInc2's, so why does everyone dislike it over the DInc2?
Is it because of how hard it is to root?

I don't think that it's the locked bootloader that's the issue since there's plenty of people who use their smartphones without ever rooting their phones. Rather, I heard that the Motorola Droid X2 has a lot of hardware/software issues that always occurs at some point in its lifespan. Specs don't mean anything especially if support is terrible. Some of our wonderful people here in the Dinc2 community can tell you more about it.

this would probably be a better post in android general, as i havent noticed any particular amount of hatred towards other phones in the inc2 subforum
personally though? i wont buy moto devices until the stop encrypting their bootloaders....but even then i hate blur so i probably wouldnt
my take
if you only use aosp: get a nexus device
if you like sense/aosp: get htc device
if you like tw/aosp: get a samsung device

Blur sucks.

I had a Droid x2 it can't play music without pops and cracks drove me crazy. Also can't go into recovery without being plugged in to wall charger. Battery bugs. Random reboots .

I had a DX2 prior to getting the Inc2 and the main reason I switched was the lack of an unlocked bootloader which hampers any kernel modifications and slows down ROM development. However, I will say that the radio in the DX2 was much clearer than the Inc2 and performance (stock vs. stock) was better.
In addition, you can hack the 3G radio in Motorola phones (via the radiocomm utility) which will grant you unlimited wi-ifi tethering via the stock hotspot application without Verizon knowing about it. This is real useful as other tethering programs have limitations (e.g, usb only, need to run in adhoc mode, etc.). This hack won't work with the new 4G LTE phones.

[Dev][Req] Motoblur time? Maybe.

Yeah. I'm back with another "Mission Impossible". I have an Android 1.6 MotoBlur rom that long back was ported to the HTC Magic. Link here >>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569329<<<<<<
Now obviously you can see my goal. Get it working here, OR maybe even just parts of it. My original goal was just the MotoBlur launcher, but this seems to be the closest thing I can find possible. My current problem seems to be the framework, but I may be wrong. Anyone wish to help?
this is ancient but i might be able to help. you port from dsixda's kitchen yet?
Dear god, why would you want to poison this lovely device with Motorola's abomination?
I'm sure there are many Backflip/Flipout/Flipside/Bravo owners that would trade you and put cash on top to not own a device with Motoblur.
Well I plan on getting a Motorola atrix or HTC inspire. So I'd like to get a feel for motoblur. And I tried dsixda but I only tried with a 2.2 rom. This is 1.6.

+ 1 for the atrix... I just upgraded to a atrix from my little aria and I gotta say its got some balls.. They just did a stock release of gingerbread and they unlocked the bootloader so it'll be running cm7 in a month or less.
Between the dual core processor, the extra 512mb of memory and the oc kernel you can get not to mention the webtop doc and laptop shell that you can run a full blown copy of debian or gentoo on.. I think the sgs2 might be lagging behind a little (not to say that its laggy, just the atrix is pretty awesome.. although i might be a little bias ). I still miss my aria's size but the atrix is a beast!

As a phone, the S2 is absolutely fantastic. Does everything I want it to do. As a carrier, I'm still on the fence with t-mobile. Data speeds are plenty fast, but data reception seems to be a mixed bag.
well... when it comes to Reception, that is really the nature of the AWS technology which requires 2 wide bands 1700+2100 for up and down to work
so building penetration is always a compromise

Now that I am on the Galaxy S2, I can tell you that it is by far the best phone that I have ever owned. Even stock, it is absolutely blazing fast. After I put beastmod on it, the thing just flies, and this is before OCing. Keep in mind that ICS is supposed to be able to utilize dual-core technology to it's fullest so when the update comes up (it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when), our phones will be in for a nice tune-up. As for as internet speeds go, I can tell you that it is BLAZING fast. It is faster and more reliable than when I had my G2 (which was just last year).
I can't post pictures but I can tell you that the fastest I have ever gotten with my S2 (in the same service area that I tested my G2 just last year) is 31MBPS. For daily usage, I consistently get 7-14MBPS. I am downloading HD videos off of Youtube in a matter of 5-10 seconds. I am downloading and finishing music downloads as soon as it pops up in my notifications bar. The phone is fast in every way, and everything flows so well together. No lag, no hassle, it just works.
got my phone a few days back from my awesome girlfriend, amazingly fast, battery only lasts a day, from 9 till 6, as i always use data connection, 1850mhz, not much of juice for this 1.5 dual core monster, resolution is a draw back with this nice screen 4.52" i am talking about, only 480*800? meh, waiting for miui roms........ only alpha versions atm, touchwiz looks gay.
speaker is way better than i9000, louder at least! some people say they want metal back cover, i say hey, it is light!!! with this kinda size!
i would give 9 out of 10 for this phone, i wanna buy the sprint version, lol, cdma 2000. not available in china yet, too bad.
What app do I use to test for lines and blobs?

No info on carriers yet, why wouldn't it be on Verizon? Galaxy Nexus is.
IMO the Gnex on vzn is like the a red head stepchild compared to the others on different carriers. They had a it exclusively on release but bombed it when it came to updates, 3 month delay on jb....the G wallet fiasco... Idk just don't see it in the cards
Not to mention that all new vzn Samsung phones have locked bootloaders when they're wide open on the other carriers.

True. But the otas are still needed for kernel source right? (Or does that worry vanish for some reason on a nexus?) I mean isn't kernel source why battery life on cm9/10 is meh for us right now? I think aeros builds are hacked up gb kernels, although its impressive how far he's brought things. Anyways I hate skins and much prefer vanilla android, hence why I prefer nexus. The thing is that Google tries to release timely updates for their own devices. The other manufacturers like to screw with things by adding their skin on top of the Android version and ruin everyone's day. I seriously doubt Samsung would make a Nexus based on the Galaxy Note. And LG making a Nexus would mean that I wouldn't want a Nexus. I already stated why I wouldn't want one so yeah. The only Nexus I would ever want would have to be by ASUS or Samsung. I never want another Nexus from HTC ever again (not because of software but hardware issues).

I would buy a nexus 7, but there no Amoled screen. If Samsung made the 7 it would be the same (or better) as the GN. And it would have a 1080p display. Of course it would cost 300-400$, but in my opinion an amazing display is worth it.

Question ... just fyi the dinc2 is my first android. So I confess ignorance on thus stuff. I know that moto bootloaders are virtually unlockable. But does this worry matter with nexus phones? And specifically with LG phones? I really don't care about manufacturer. I care more about raw competitive specs and the ability to get s off and root. Is achieving both typically easy on nexus phones? Or can they be released locked down like moto has done with all their droids to date? Thanks for any incite. (FYI) Inc 4g has s-off coming

Does this really belong here? prolly not
but i know a lot of inc2 users dont want to upgrade and loose unlimited data, and buying phones off contract can be crazy expensive to keep it
inc4g can typically be had for under $250 on ebay/cl, and now we have s-off coming (which being locked was a major point for many to avoid the phone)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944157
basically thought id throw this out there, for those looking for a pretty good (i love it, others refuse to use anything smaller than 4.3 inch screen these days) 4g phone that can be had off contract used for just about upgrade pricing, can now not worry about having an unrootable/locked phone :good:
it will most likely be getting official jellybean at some point, which the rezound probably wont (nothing against rezound, but that could be a deal breaker for some)
Awesome, the not unlockable at all part was definitely what had me staying away from this, I knew it'd get done eventually though, thanks for the heads up.

yeah ive had the inc4g since launch...i was one of the fortunate ones (maybe 80-100?) that got dev unlocked through htcdev when the phone was unoffiicially supported for its first 10 days post launch...after that htc killed support to it...
theory was either a) verizon told them to (verizon claims our stock release software and unlock would cause issues...according to some support folk) or b) verizon just didnt want it unlockable
in any event, it ll work out in the end, cuz we probably wouldnt have soff if we had dev unlock as andy might not have had to reach out to the i/o guys if we still had unlock...and soff is so much better
but our sense4.1/android 4.0.4 update this week contained the exploit the guys needed to get temproot and soff the device supposedly :good:
as for the device?
battery life is incredible for a 4g device...on the stock battery and kernel i get 4 hours screen on time regularly (more than my inc2), in lte coverage the whole time...radios are very good
comparing it to the inc2, i guess form factor differences would be iphone 4s vs iphone5...the inc4g is narrower, but qhd res....i happen to like the screen a lot (even though some blogs killed it)....its very responsive, and smooth (even more so now on sense4.1 vs 4.0)
Keep us posted on the s-off. Thanks nit.
Thanks for the info Justin.
Well I will certainly be getting this phone for sure.

Since when did CM only support moto phones?? Only reason we aren't supported is because we don't have kernel source, we used to be for GB.

If anyone cares for another opinion, I can pretty much confirm Justin's take on the Dinc4. I had the Dinc2 for quite a while and absolutely loved it (now my dad loves it.) I was predisposed to the Dinc4 because the form factor of the Dinc2 was perfect. Once I noticed Justin had the phone and knew it would have great ROMs, that sealed the deal. My phone arrived THE DAY HTC removed it from their unlock tool :'(
So after 3 months with the Dinc4, I'm a little baffled by the amount of negative reviews on this phone. The screen is fantastic, the camera is outstanding, and the phone (stock) is smooth and responsive. The latest update made it even better. Battery life is great. If you like your Dinc2 as much as I did and aren't looking for a phablet size device, I think this is a great upgrade.
Cheers.
+1 I just got mine and I love it. Except for the lack of root, but like nits said that will be available in the near future. The form of the phone reminds me of the og inc and I loved that lil guy
if root ever becomes available for it, i might look around to trade my dinc2 + some cash maybe, for one. dinc2 is my first Android based phone and I really love it. I even liked it on stock, but root is just amazing lol
We're told root is coming soon
Once the s-off tool is released, i'm sure root will accompany root.

yeah, just fastboot a recovery and flash a superuser package and youre set (post s-off)
I think just maybe HTC threw the dinc4g a bone. They have supported the android underground in the past. They still would if very greedy wireless hadn't stepped in.
It makes sense to me, that they released an update knowing full well that we could exploit it.
Anyone else think the same?

I'll second that
If our phones were 4g I could care less about upgrading to the dinc4g because the dinc2 is an amazing phone :X

Thinking about going to another phone what is better to go to?

Hello.
I am thinking of getting a newer phone and am wanting to know what u think of the droid bionic, thunderbolt, rezound, or lg lucid, this are the best phones under 140$ that is why those ones lol. What do u think is better to spend the money on and use on page plus ? Thanks

You'd have to check on page plus. I'm not sure about that one. Spec wise the Rezound is the best phone on your list.

Yah I am going to get the rezound. I will have to use CDMA workshop to make it work on page plus lol but hay it is a very good phone for under 180$ or 140$. Thanks

I would like to point out that our device is pretty darn special in the phone-world. It runs the latest software nearly flawlessly and has stood the test of time.
Take just a moment or two perhaps to consider what it takes to make this phone. Wars are fought to obtain the ore used in the display.
Discarded obsolete electronics is then shipped to Africa where environmental laws are lax.
According to a documentary on YouTube I saw i think from journeyman productions, children and adults alike scavenge the toxic garbage that gets piled in a giant heap right off the barge.
Having no other way to sustain themselves, they have no choice but search for copper and other valuable waste product.
Truly a pitiful existence certainly beyond any ordinary westerners comprehension, their only respite is dulling their hopelessness by sniffing hydrocarbons (mineral spirits, acetone, etc).
Just acknowledge these implications to yourself and ask, do i really need this to be happy? Is it worth it? Just because everyone else is doing it don't make it right.
One love.

I read about it. I don't have it sorry. Check out the RAZR forums for more info. I should rephrase and say I knew it got unlocked but I don't know if it got published. It probably did.
Also which RAZR variant? Is it the first one?
