Stock keyboard using swype is pretty inaccurate. I am coming from the captivate (S1). on that phone it was able to memorize any word i swyped that wasnt in the dictionary.
what is the difference with the S3 because is is wildly inaccurate and has no features, no memory?
i dont think the s3 comes with real swype like the captivate. Probably samsung trying to save some $$ I'm also coming from the captivate and wish it had real swype.
That isn't Swype, it's Samsung's keyboard. You can either install Swype yourself, or try something like Swiftkey. Swiftkey 3 just came out, and so far it's the best keyboard I've used.
I recommend SwiftKey, best keyboard imo

The swipe typing that comes with the samsung keyboard is Nuance's t9 Trace, not Nuance's Swype. Which is silly because Nuance now owns both the products and I'm pretty sure they are aware Swype is the better product. I'm sure it had something to do with legal intricacies not allowing Swype to make it in the phone quite yet.
Swiftkey X is nice.
But, I installed the latest Swype Beta 4, and its accuracy is phenomenal. I'm sold.

where are you guys installing swype from? i cannot find it in play store?
Here is their site. Need to have signed install turned off.
I'm not sure if they are adding folks to the beta or not. I've been on that list for a long time.
Swiftkey X is the old one, Swiftkey 3 came out last week. Miles ahead of Swiftkey X

It is confusing with all the different names.
If owning Siftkey X, will it auto update to Swiftkey 3? Or is it a different product to purchase? I'm curious, because my wife is on Swiftkey X.

I own Swiftkey X through Amazon, and it lists as Swiftkey 3 in my apps list with them now. I haven't actually tried the new version yet. I used Swiftkey X on my Captivate for a while, but ended up returning to Swype after a couple weeks. Currently using Swype with my S3.
I got Swiftkey X during the 10 cent sale through Google, and yes, it auto-updated to 3. I actually hated Swiftkey X, and preferred using the AOSP Android ICS keyboard. Once that was unavailable on this phone, I tried Swiftkey 3 and liked it a lot better than Samsung's crap. Honestly, I'd rather have the AOSP back over anything else right now.
swype beta 4 is exactly what i am looking for. thanks guys.

Same here. I tried to get along with the new Samsung keyboard but after 2 days finally broke down and installed the newest Swype beta. It is a really great keyboard if you are already a swype user. I use Swiftkey on my tablet and I like it too but for one handed phone typing in portrait mode which is 95% of my daily typing style nothing compares to Swype IMHO.

My tablet is a 10" Asus Transformer, and for the occasional tablet only use (I do have the keyboard), I like Thumb Keyboard. Don't like it for my phone.
Sticking with the Swype.
I have to 1+ SwiftKey 3 keyboard... I was skeptical but it's the best I have tried to date. Have not tried sype Bet 4 yet though

I actually like both, Swype beta and Swiftkey. I usually switch between them. If I feel like pecking and making sure what I am typing is accurate, like for email responses for work then I will use Swift, but for texting back and forth to friends or responding in forums, it is Swype. I can't stand the kb that comes with the phone stock, I really hate the fact that when I go back to correct a word, it doesn't have the word suggestions like Swype does, only when you're in the middle of typing.

This is my biggest gripe with the stock keyboard too. I also like that Swype allows me to turn auto correct off while still getting the word suggestions. I hate when I manually type a word and find after I send my message that it got changed to something else. I'm using Swype beta now and so far it's great.

My firends, I'm thinking that I really need a tablet to complement my SGN2. I don't want to close any option before I hear from you. I'm an advance user, and I'm looking for something that really gives me more that my sgn2. I used to have an iPad I sold it because only my children were using it to play around, but since the anounncement that office 365 was out in USA, I'm thinking to get me an iPad mini. Another choice might be an w8 tablet, since I want it only to get my job done (lots of reports and presentation, microsoft dominates my working environment). I was thinking also to let go my SGN2, get an HTC one and buy a note 10'. What do you think?? Please help me out here.

I have been wondering same thing, as I don't want smaller than 10" tablet with my 5,5" phone, also I've been thinking about W8, because would it be slightly stupid to have android tablet with Note 2?
Can't you do everything as with android tablet with your Note 2?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
The thing that Ireally would love to do but I can't are working with powerpoint presentation and advance spread sheets from excell. That's a very down side for android OS. I also work with mindmaps but is very hard to do it right on my sgn2.

I would honestly go with the iPad, despite what "some" people might say.
You already have an Android phone so you can get best of both worlds if you get an iPad. Similarily, it is hard arguing against the fact that iOS has a slightly better standard of apps than Android and is streets ahead on WP8 (which i actually quite like). Also, more apps are designed specifically for the tablet and you will get the benefits of this.
Therefore, despite how good something like the Nexus 7 and 10 may be, I would definately be more inclined to get an iPad if I ever decided to venture into the tablet world.
Yeah, I see your point. I was thinking w8, but I don't know if it is up to the challenge, and also creating a new account and buy all the software that I need again it just doesn't seems right

From my experience I like having Android tablets (a Galaxy 10.1 and an Asus EeeTab) to compliment my Android phone- lots of nice sync-ing between the two from factors is good to have. I also have a w8 RT tablet that gives me all the sync-ing between my PC's (both business and personal). I do have some cross-sync between my Androids and my w8 worlds with Lync and office using sky drive.
I've made a personal choice not to have any Apple in my tech Universe... I simply don't find it very appealing... Same goes for a windows based phone. But anyway, that's the spread that works for my wordl... both all Android and windows 8 based tech.
Cheers

I found it works fairly well, given of course the smaller screen size. I have the touch (the one with the raised keys) keypad that I can type really well with, plus having a full usb port I can attach a real mouse. Of course the big thing for me will be when windows blue comes to the RT tablet- this is promised to give full outlook. The native mail app is ok, but it's not outlook. Windows blue is due out in the next few months, so this should make my w8 tablet even better. As far as the other office apps, these are like the PC versions and come pre-installed on the RT. Of course, with office 365, web office apps are a possibility as long as you are connected.
Then there is the windows 8 pro tablet that is available now... this is full pc... not really sure it's worth the extra $$$ since the rt does what I like... super mobile, long battery life, inter-connected with the work life, etc. Until Office comes out for Android, I don't know that I can fully switch to the Android platform for my entire mobile life.

One must always consider the possibilities... and indeed RDP into a remote PC... yes doable... then there's those Office Web Apps... but like lauchon... I was thinking about a single smaller than a PC larger than a cell phone device.... and the thought of carry all of that to my Starbucks - I hate lugging the laptop about... so a tablet is my ideal device foot-print. and the Surface tablets fit the bill for me... the touch pad is light and has a mouse area built-in... so a single device can be done... when you don't need the full keyboard and mouse.... like in the bed... you have the touch screen...
Today I saw this articule, what do you think??

I Always felt that tablets were useless, but i needed an office compatible device and I decided to go with the Acer iconia w7 .
It has changed my life. Great battery life (up to 6/7 hrs At minimum brightness) good performance (i have the i3 versione) and really awesome full hd display.
It also has Windows 8 pro, so I have a real pc in a really small form factor.
I bought mine for 450 euros, ir was used for one month and actually i was Lucky since it was like new

I played with lots of tablets in my work and I'm telling you, no tablet came near to the qualities of iPad mini.
It's perfect for writing with both hands, very fast, has beautiful screen.

Hey guys, I currently have a MacBook Air 11, and I am looking for a tablet that I can use for when I don't wanna pull out my Macbook.
I am trying to spend less than $300. So I can get a refurbished Tab 3 10.1 for $225. However I can also get the first Galaxy Note 10.1(first edition) for $250.
I also can get an iPad 3rd gen for about $275.
So I am a bit conflicted. I just want something cheap that I can browse the internet on, play a few games, and use SmartGlass for my XboxOne
If look around get a nexus 10 for under 300 or nexus 7, if not just go with refurbished one

Depends what your users are going to be. Being you have a Mac, I say go with iPad (as much as I hate saying that). You already have apple asps and usernames that would make it easier for you.

Well I do have a Macbook, and an iPhone 5. But I am trying to get out of the apple ecosystem.
I'm going to get an android phone when my upgrade is up.
Basically my uses are going to be: Using while I'm in bed, on the couch to mainly surf the web, email, play a few games here and there, and use for SmartGlass for my Xbox. If it's anything more than that, I'll just use my Macbook.

I think it is wise to switch as long as you've done your research first. It can be expensive switching ecosystems, but Android tends to be much cheaper that iOS from what I've witnessed at least. But that is only part of what makes Android wonderful. As for the Tab 3 10.1, right now, I'm struggling because I wanted it to have user switching. That's something supported by Jellybean, but alas, Samsung has omitted it from this build. So I've been searching everywhere for custom ROMs but it seems that no one is developing for it because it runs on Intel and people aren't used to that structure just yet. All I can do it root is and tweak things here and there, but not what I want it to, so my point of view is a little skewed toward dislike.
If you have the funds, I would recommend the Nexus 10 32GB. Unfortunately, Nexus devices don't have microSD expansion like the Galaxy devices, but it has all the features it should and it would be easy to find custom development for it once you get bored with the stock UI.
TBH I personally would NOT recommend you buying the tab 3 10.1. I'd rather buy a Nexus 7 2013 or a Nexus 10 or a LG Gpad 8.3.
thsi is because of the silly Intel processor within the tab and Android not really cooperating with it.
You'll be better off running an ARM processor.
Just my 2 cents. Hope you enjoy whatever tablet you buy.
And as much as I dislike Windows 8 it works well on tablets. So that is also a good choice IMO
Good luck !

I have the tab 3 10.1 and it's a pretty good tablet. There's nothing so far about it that I don't like, BUT the resolution.

Do you think it would be a good first device to dive into android with?
Thank you all for replying.
I had a dell streak 7 and it had a poor following for development, but I used it enough to know my next tab would be a 10 inch.(7 inch Too Small) I just got this tab 3, and it is killer. It doesn't have any custom ROMS that are drastically different that stock, Still...it is running the newest version of Jelly Bean, and really doesn't need "upgrading" It is so snappy and fast, I am tickled to death with it. I love the stock OS, and I figure by the time I get bored with it Cyanogen Mod will be available for it. Of course my view is also skewed because I was struggling with a Dell Streak 7 (slowpoke) before I got my Tab 3. I also enjoy (watching) the developers forum for this device, it's very entertaining because they discover new things about this tablet every day it seems. That stuff is mostly over my head right now, but I hope to learn more, so I can contribute in the future. Good luck with your choice...I just love mine.
I just bought a Tab 3 10.1 from Amazon last week. I also purchased a leather case with Bluetooth keyboard to go with it. The order total was 311 for me and well worth it. I also have a Galaxy s4.
I think if you are looking to switch to the Android ecosystem I would recommend setting up a Google account now if you do not have one already. The one thing I like about Google and the android environment is the built in cloud environment.
I am on my 4th Android phone and first tablet and have never had to transfer or backup contacts, settings or files. I log into the new device it automatically downloads the settings wallpaper and apps I use. The contacts are stored in the Google account on Google servers. I have seen even the most experienced iDevice users try to mimic this seamless integration but fall short (though not impossible).
My only advice in order to make sure you never have to back up files and pictures (with caution) is to utilize Google drive if you do not already.
When I first moved to Android from Blackberry the selling point was that my contacts are stored in my Google account. Saved my life many times.

Well guys, I went to BestBuy to check out the tablets.
I looked at the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and 10.1, Note 8.0 and 10.1 and the Nexus 7.
The two tabs seemed a bit sluggish when getting in and out of apps, and the load times in chrome were a little slower compared to the Notes.
The Note 10.1 is the perfect device for me, I absolutely loved it, but it's way out of my price range. But I also loved the Note 8.0.
The Nexus 7 seemed nice too, but it was in some demo mode so I couldn't actually open apps and such.
How does the Note 8.0 compare to the Nexus 7? At this point I think I like the Note 8.0 more, purely based on form factor.
Edit: How much faster is the Note 8.0 than the Tab 3?
Also how does the Note 8.0 compare to the original Note 10.1?
As far as I am concerned NO MORE SAMSUNG. Samsung just doesn't support…update the system on any of their tabs. I am selling my Galaxy 10.1 note today and getting something else. Sold my S4 and got a nexus 5 and am very happy.

Well that is interesting.
If you had to recommend me a tablet, what would you recommend? Other than the Nexus 7.
I'd Recommend the LG Gpad 8.3 Google Play Edition as it has a slightly bigger screen.
I do NOT recommend Samsung devices as they have a CRAP LOAD of bloatware installed. Quite a few of those things run constantly using up RAM/CPU and eating battery life and in return, they give nothing.
I'd rather have an AOSP based ROM without the 'goodies' than a stock ROM with them.
I've owned 4 samsung devices so I think I can speak for them
This is my skightly skewed opinion. you should decide what you buy. We are just giving you advice

Well maybe I should just get the Nexus 7.
I can't seem to find a Google Play G Pad in my price range :/
Did you get the Nexus 7? I was going to until I found that some of the 2013 model had screen/hardware and touchscreen issues. My wife has the gtab 2 10.1 which I put cm 4.3 and a custom overclocked kernal on and it runs smooth and quick. After using it a while I wanted something a bit smaller for myself and settled on the gtab 3 8.0. I like the size much better and the screen is plenty big and bright. It is quick and responsive with the stock rom. There is some development happening for it including an overclocked kernal and I am waiting patiently for a stable rom.
If you bought the Nexus, let us know how it is. I hope it's one of the good ones.
Friends I have decided to buy 32gb Wifi model. I have been reading reviews around the net and found that the tablet has touch screen issues due to some earthing problem.
My question is that is this true for the initial batches of the tablet only or for all? My Indian friends hopefully could shed some light on this. How many of you are facing the touch screen problem and to what extent?
I was all very excited to get this tablet guys. I was hoping to get it by next week but this touch screen issue is making me have second thoughts.
Also is this best android gaming tablet? Or is there something more powerful than this around the market?

I got my Nexus in April, after quite a few had already been sold.
Out of the box, mine had touch screen issues... multiple responses to a single key touch as well as some unresponsiveness. After doing a Google search, a factory reset fixed most of the issues. I'm left with some occasional unresponsiveness.
For me it's an occasional annoyance. I've found after 30 plus years of playing with computer devices, they all have minor annoyances. Overall, I am quite impressed with the device.

I of course meant Nexus 7, and not Nexus 5, but yeah this tablet hasn't missed a beat so far
I've had my 32GB N7 (2013) WiFi model since January (got a GREAT deal from Staples for only $170 brand new). This tablet has been no less than perfect for me. No issues whatsoever. Can't beat the bang to buck ratio you get with this device.

If I was in your place I would have atleast waited for Google I/O.
Who knows they may announce the new nexus 8.

But the Google I/0 is at the end of this month.. Also it will take at least another one month for Google to launch It here in India.. With the fact that initial batches invariably has some problems..
Also isn't this tablet capable of doing almost anything. I know faster and better processors are being released but is there any app or game in android which utilises so much power?
From what I have read the only drawback this tablet has is with the camera and feeble loudspeakers.
Performance wise it's pretty good.. Isn't it?

I've had a touchscreen issue and i demand for a replacement!
Bought nexus 7, should get it today [emoji1]
Any suggestions on whether I should root it and install custom rom?
Or the stock rom is good enough for all the heavy games I m gonna throw at it??

Got my 16GB version today and I'm nothing short of delighted, been brilliant and a world apart from the first gen Nexus 7's, no problems at all.
My nexus gets heated at the back in 10- 15 minutes of normal usage ..is it normal or is there something wrong ? Its not that it becomes unbearable or makes it difficult to hold the device but its just enough to make you notice .. If anyone could help ???

Depends what you're doing.. Mine never gets hot just browsing web/Facebook/etc
But when playing any game its hot after 10mins
As long as it's not rebooting it's fine.
I just ordered it and I will have my paws on my Note on Monday. I am very excited but I want to know what everyone else thinks. I have gone back and forth from Android to Apple and back. I wanted to go not only Android but back to Samsung. I am looking at going to the Galaxy Note 4 when that goes on sale next month.
But really. with not having root access (yet) are you still happy with the Note 10.1?
Happy? Yes, very.
I have the P605, so am rooted without knox fuse trip.
It took me a while to choose a tablet, UK Note 10.1" 2014's are only 16GB Wifi only versions AFAIK, and for the money I was spending I wanted better specs, so I had to order a Hong Kong p605 import which allowed me to have 3g/4g and have 32GB storage (64B would have been too much $$).
I was replacing a Note 1 (n7000) so needed something that I could use as a phone too, didn't want to mess with 2 devices, tethering, etc.
The only issue I have so far is a distinct lack of accessories. I wish there was a choice of docks, cases, etc.
So yeah, other than that, very happy, it is fast and smooth and does what I need it to.
Some UK carriers don't allow tablets to be used on their networks, my 3 sim detected and rejected my p605 saying it was not allowed, but that is not really the tablets fault.

First let me say that some people are not happy with anything, and nothing is ever perfect.
I have a stock SM-P600 32 GB and I'm very happy. I also have a Stock GT-8013 that was restored back to stock from root and my wife is happy with it also.
Had my SM-P605 LTE tablet since December and still loving it. Not rooted and with OTA updates I am at KitKat 4.4.2. I use Nova Launcher and it's smooth as butter. No issues whatsoever. Enjoy your new baby
The best tablet ever, even sale my iPad to get this one and I dont regret it. I have upgrade to KK rooted and install custom rom. ?
Am I happy with the tablet? Thats a deffo yes it is truely an awesome tablet.
Am I happy with samsung updates? Thats a different subject lol. Either way overall theres no denying this tablet is amazing but maybe I'm just a tad wierd and slightly annoyed at the way Samsung handles their updates (Still no kitkat in UK 10 months on), I keep blabbering on that this is my last samsung product but who am I kidding - nothing compares in terms of note features. Will have to wait and see haha.
Anyhoo am sure you'll love it

I am doing the same thing. I wanted the galaxy tab s but did t want to spend that much money. This seems like a great tablet. Just hope the pixel quality looks better than my iPad mini.
The screen is outstanding, the performance is great, the spen works really well. I don't like that the USB plug is at the bottom of the device. You cannot charge the 10.1 while watching movies in landscape. The 12.2 has the plug on the side.

If you rotate your device 180 degrees the screen rotates as well. then you can plug it in at the top and watch your movies.
I love my note, wouldn't mind an update in the UK though to KK. maybe one day?
Hong Kong 32gb p605 here, running stock 4.4.2 rooted with towel root. Very happy except for the lack of accessory options.

Is there a charging desk top dock for the note 10.1 2014?

There is original dock station for our baby and also I have information from official samsung store that this one
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-S20JWEGSTA
also will work, still I did not test it yet.
To be in subject. I love my P605 and I hate Samsung that they did not focus more on promotion of it and there is few accessories in the market which you can get to it.
Second thing is the lack of support for many software designed for it. For example:
1. No possibility to unlock your PC(send ctrl+alt+del) when you are connect to it via Samsung Remote PC
2. Few note themes to SNotes - they could add much more
and much more.
Still it is defo worth to get it since it is still the best Tablet with Android in the market(TAB S don't have SPen and Xperia Z2 tablet is only marketing nymber1)
BR.
I have the exynos p600 and am very unhappy with it. I'm used to very fast speeds as I find on my smart phones but Samsung tablets lag way too much. Doesn't matter what specs you load them with. Touchwiz finds a way to hog it down. Tablet is decent..though build is cheap, back plate isn't even leather..its plastic made to look like leather. And the chrome..just awful. But I'm stuck with this as there a very few other android tablets worth swapping for at the moment

I havent had an Android tablet in a while. My last was an ASUS T300 or something. I did have an 8 inch Galaxy Tab 2 last summer. I remember it being bogged down with Touch Wiz and being kinda laggy. Does putting another launcher (example: Nova Launcher) speed things up since you arent using the touch wiz launcher?

Nova helps a bit, but the Kitkat update is probably also enough already.
Sort of; great tablet, great screen, pen is a blessing for school notes and drawings, the processor is a beast and it has enough ram. Now, i dont like almost anything that samsung did with it, it is either useless, buggy, slow or too small a detail to have touchwiz for. I wish i could deal with it installing cm or any other distribution but i have the p600 model so it seems i am ****ed. Sorry if i cant give opinion of roms like hydronium and xkat but i havent tried them because they seem to be only scrambled touchwiz.
All in all, for the price i got it for(around 400$) and with so so writing apps like "write" this is one of the only tablets that let me use it as a notebook so i am mildly happy with it.
TL;DR: Tablet is great, Touchwiz is not that great. Get p605 model.

I'm happy with this tablet, but not happy with stupid Samsung.
Very happy with this tablet, but can't stand TouchWiz and any of the S apps.
Replace TouchWiz with either Nova or Google launcher and S apps with anything else from Google Play (example: lecture notes).
About a year after Android L comes out and we are still on kit kat, I might feel a little different.
