You shouldn't loose root by a factory reset, how did you install the rom if you flashed it the.apk can be taken out of the zip file using root explorer or an app like root explorer the apk you downloaded may not be compatible I'm going too upload my apk and ill post the link in a second you can't just click to install the apk has too be put into system/app folder
Here is the link

Don't factory reset, because it won't fix your problem. Factory reset doesn't touch the system partition, where the file was deleted from.
Make sure after you copy the file to the system partition, then set permissions for the file, otherwise it won't work. Using root explorer, set permissions so that they are the same as all the other apps in the apps folder.
Then reboot and that should fix your problem.

Thanks guys, I installed using rootexplorer and it worked!

Uninstalling zips

If I flash a zip on my phone and I don't like it or it doesn't work, is there anyway I can just remove with out reflashing
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
That is why you make a nandroid backup. You can't just undo flashing something
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Only way to uninstall zips is to plug your phone into your computer and find the zip file and hit delete but it is best to always check the ROM out before you back it up get it set up the way you like then back it up but always back up your stock ROM that way you can go back to it

That doesn't uninstall anything, it just deletes it off your sd card. Like the other guy said, Do a nandroid before you flash anything because flashes can't be undone. you can flash over it but you can't undo a flash.
That's basically what I was saying
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Not even lol. Deleting the .zip file is the file itself, it's already flashed to the phone. You could boot with no SD and still have your.zip flashed. Basically, you have to reflash the rom if you don't have a backup.

Haha that's nothing like u were saying bro lmao
@OP
Open the zip,
find the files it modifies inside system folder
Open ur roms zip file with 7z or similar
Find the needed files
Replace into zip overwriting with the originals ofc, follow the layout.
Put on SD
boot to CWM
Disable signatures
Flash zip
Clear cache/fix permissions if necessary, you haven't described what your flashing..
Reboot.
Done.
But if you don't make a backup of it and restore it's still on there?

If it ads files then yes technicly but by replacing the main files it wont be initiating only as the otigionals.. u can delete extras with a delete command in updater-script..
And yet again u didn't specify what you were "restoring"
Guess I need to be more specific lmao

Yes you can remove by deleting apk just like copying apk will install (as long as it is folder you have write access to and you restart the phone).
Also keeping a copy of any apk will allow reinstall later just enable non market sources in settings use file browser select apk for install while running OS and it does not require a restart to use the app by the way). You have to use app such as titanium backup to backup your apps settings and data though.
You can also un/install using adb
Adb install blah.apk
(Google for options)
As well. Just like if you copy apks in to a ROM zip (right directories don't just drop in root; Google if needed) before flash they will also install when ROM zip is flashed (may need to re-sign but these days that usually is not required).

Thanks. I'm not rooted so I guess I will have to factory reset. This is really odd. Never had this happen on any of my android devices so it got me stumped.
I rooted and flashed cwm. Clearing dalvik and cache along with change permission didnt fix it. Had to factory reset and was able to side load. Gonna restore my files back via TB and hopefully it wont happen again.

Strange root problem

So, I was fully rooted (4.0.4 Stock) I just went in to try to remove another system app, using "System App remover" and it tells me that it cannot mount system R/W, so I go into root explorer, and go to system, and click the R/W button, and nothing.
System app remover was working fine before, as I have removed apps.
Any ideas?
**UPDATE**
I just restored back to when I KNOW I had root, and it is doing the same thing.

Maybe this time you denied SuperUser permissions?
Restoring nandroid backups has been nuking permissions for months now. You'll have to wipe and fresh install.

What about Fix permissions? would that fix it?
**Edit**
Interesting..............fix perms will fix it, but you can only go in once (system app remover), if you go out, and back in, it gives the same error

When you say wipe and fresh install, how would I do that with Stock 4.0.4?

You don't need to fresh install. Grab the superuser flashable zip from androidsu's website (get the ARM one)
http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
Boot to recovery and flash it. Fixed it for me.

If your recovery isn't stock, you should be fine. If it is, you'll probably have to Odin a custom one on your phone and go from there.

Wiping everything and then installing. Darkside super and cache wipes first, then the ROM. Factory reset before you install can't hurt either.

Help! Need SystemUI.apk from 4.1.1

I was browsing on here and found a statusbar mod. I flashed it not realizing it was for Sprint and now my SystemUI crashes on startup. I downloaded the ROM again but cannot extract just that apk from it. Can someone post from system/app for me so I can try to flash it back and hopefully correct the issue?
I was running stock TouchWiz.
Thanks in advance!
Just flash your ROM again. Only wipe cache and system

It's the factory ROM, so the only means of flashing is with Odin. I can't reset my Google Wallet app because SystemUI crashes when doing so, so if I do flash, I will lose my Secure element?
Then find a 4.1.1 stock ROM in the android development section and flash it through your custom recovery. Are you rooted?

Download it from here. Luckily I was messing around with it the other day and still had the original saved. You will need root explorer or zip install.
You can extract apps from nandroids using nandroid manager , titanium back up or just extract from rom using 7zip

As far as your secure element, I have never once reset Google wallet from my phone. I forget every single time and flash a new ROM. All I do is go to wallet.google.com on my computer, on the left click devices and then disable the device. Google says it's been disabled and then I reinstall as usual on the new ROM already on my phone.
I have never run into any issues this way and I still maintain my secure element. I use my Google wallet regularly.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but the above works for me every time. Use at your own risk.

I cant delete any files on my note 2 n7100 im guessing the storage is read only how do I change this im rooted but on stock rom 4.1.2 .

Install root explorer and check what's the permissions are like on your mounted file system. Try deleting files with other file Explorer apps. Try fx which is there in play store. (search keyword: file explorer)
If the problem still persists, Try doing a factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache. And then try deleting the files.

Yes. Remember to wipe cache and dalvik cache too. Try carbon rom which is aosp based and is very stable in terms of performance and battery. If you want all the Samsung and s pen features try the latest omega rom v18. I hope your issue gets resolved soon.
