Uninstalling zips - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

If I flash a zip on my phone and I don't like it or it doesn't work, is there anyway I can just remove with out reflashing
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA

That is why you make a nandroid backup. You can't just undo flashing something
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Only way to uninstall zips is to plug your phone into your computer and find the zip file and hit delete but it is best to always check the ROM out before you back it up get it set up the way you like then back it up but always back up your stock ROM that way you can go back to it

That doesn't uninstall anything, it just deletes it off your sd card. Like the other guy said, Do a nandroid before you flash anything because flashes can't be undone. you can flash over it but you can't undo a flash.

That's basically what I was saying
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Not even lol. Deleting the .zip file is the file itself, it's already flashed to the phone. You could boot with no SD and still have your.zip flashed. Basically, you have to reflash the rom if you don't have a backup.

Haha that's nothing like u were saying bro lmao
@OP
Open the zip,
find the files it modifies inside system folder
Open ur roms zip file with 7z or similar
Find the needed files
Replace into zip overwriting with the originals ofc, follow the layout.
Put on SD
boot to CWM
Disable signatures
Flash zip
Clear cache/fix permissions if necessary, you haven't described what your flashing..
Reboot.
Done.

But if you don't make a backup of it and restore it's still on there?

If it ads files then yes technicly but by replacing the main files it wont be initiating only as the otigionals.. u can delete extras with a delete command in updater-script..
And yet again u didn't specify what you were "restoring"

Guess I need to be more specific lmao

Yes you can remove by deleting apk just like copying apk will install (as long as it is folder you have write access to and you restart the phone).
Also keeping a copy of any apk will allow reinstall later just enable non market sources in settings use file browser select apk for install while running OS and it does not require a restart to use the app by the way). You have to use app such as titanium backup to backup your apps settings and data though.
You can also un/install using adb
Adb install blah.apk
(Google for options)
As well. Just like if you copy apks in to a ROM zip (right directories don't just drop in root; Google if needed) before flash they will also install when ROM zip is flashed (may need to re-sign but these days that usually is not required).

flashing apps

When I put my backed up apps into a zip folder and try to flash it it says faild to flash and blah blah......and when i try to put it inside the rom like system-app it dosent flash my apps just the ones I didn't put in

What did you use to back the apps up?
App backup & restore
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
You have to use the app to restore your backed up apps. Not flash them...
I used the app to backup my apps than I took those backed up apps and put them inside a. Zip folder or a rom like cyanogenmod inside the system-apps after that I put the zip file on my sdcard and rebbot to recovery when I try to flash it says error

Whatever app you used to back them up with is what you use to resore them. As far as installing things via recovery, you can't just throw a bunch of apps into a zip file, you need to script things accordingly as well. If you're wanting to go that route, for whatever reason, look into how to create an update.zip

4.2 emoji keyboard

Does anybody have the emoji keyboard 4.2 file? I have searched and downloaded the file at least 5 different times from multiple places but whenever I go to flash the zip the installation is aborted error with the zip and I get the dead android figurine. Has this been happening to anybody else? I want the emoji 4.2 keyboard.

Have you checked the zip to seeing there's an apk inside? You may need to manually push it to /system/app and set permissions
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Just out of curiosity, do you have to be rooted and running a custom rom to use the Emoji keyboard? Also, Will this allow you to see Emoji everywhere they are use ei Twitter, instagram?
Yes the zip has an apk inside but I didn't push it to system because it also has libs and other files inside that I don't know how to install and where to put.

You can probably push all those too, that's what flashing is... the directories are in the zip

I don't think they've worked all the kinks out of that cam for all roms yet. Current workaround is to tap to focus before each shot, or shoot in action mode. See if that works for ya.
I am still waiting for some one to point me towards the zip file

Working fine here on my end. Very nice too. I dig it.
For those of you having trouble flashing... just extract the two .apks from the zip with a file explorer, and also the lib file... we'll make this simple and I'll tell you just copy all files to the directories indicated below:
Copy the two apks to /system/app/ directory...
Now copy the lib file to /system/lib/ directory...
Reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then fix permissions.
Success.

You shouldn't loose root by a factory reset, how did you install the rom if you flashed it the.apk can be taken out of the zip file using root explorer or an app like root explorer the apk you downloaded may not be compatible I'm going too upload my apk and ill post the link in a second you can't just click to install the apk has too be put into system/app folder

Don't factory reset, because it won't fix your problem. Factory reset doesn't touch the system partition, where the file was deleted from.
Make sure after you copy the file to the system partition, then set permissions for the file, otherwise it won't work. Using root explorer, set permissions so that they are the same as all the other apps in the apps folder.
Then reboot and that should fix your problem.
Thanks guys, I installed using rootexplorer and it worked!

If you are using ROM manager then Open the app ->click on Manage and Restore Back up -> Click on the back up you want to delete -> it'll give you option to delete.

Yes get root explorer and go to the stored files and delete them or you can use es file explorer its a bit more friendly to navigate. Hope this helps.
Yeah like already mentioned, ROM Manager is the easiest way to manage your CWM backup files. You could also go into settings and switch backup location to extSD Card.
For those without ROM Manager, look in mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup
You'll need a file explorer that can access root files.

In addition to the above suggestions, DiskUsage (available on play store) also makes it easy to see and delete nandroids. I also use ROM Manager for some of my nandroid management but after it caused me a bootloop recently while flashing a ROM I am reducing my dependency on that particular app.

Help please

So I'm new to the s3 I successfully rooted and installed cwm. I made a back up of my stock 4.1.2 ROM but when I installed a new ROM my back up went away. On my previous phones in cwm when you wipe data it didn't wipe any backup. Now it did. How can I prevent this from happening and and does anyone please have a 4.1.2 stock t mobile ROM cwm backup!? It should be on the root of the internal storage. To prevent this, stick to one version of the os. No one is going to give you their backup/nandroid. Go through the development section, there's a few 4.1.2 stock Roms with root.

In my past experience with cwm wiping data always wiped the internal storage.. So one way to prevent it from happening is to make backups to the external sdcard instead of internal.. I don't know how it works now because I've been using twrp for a while now.. And there is stock ROMs in the development section, you can just download one and flash it

Normally rom backup is secured and will not be wiped
You can download es file explorer and give root permission
Go to /device,- mnt folder - shell folder - you will find cwm folder and in that backup folder containing your all backup
