[Q] Games stuttering/freezing - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Couldn't find anything on google, but was wondering if anyone has experienced stuttering/freezing on some games. The ones I notice it on are windup knight and oscura. Everyone couple minutes the game would either stutter a little bit or completely freeze up for 1-2 seconds, then resume normally. I feel like it may just be the way the games are coded, but I'm hoping it's not a hardware issue.
I'm stock rooted and don't have cpu throttled.

I seem to have resolved the problem by wiping the dalvik cache in case anyone is still curious.
EDIT: spoke too soon, still stutters

I have seemingly narrowed down the problem to 4g losing and regaining connectivity to the freezing in the games as I notice it happening more when I'm traveling on my underground transit system. Can anyone confirm this issue?

confirm that losing/gaining 4g connectivity causes 3d rendering to stutter/freeze?

I'm not on multiplayer, i'm not even using any data when i'm playing these games. It's not really a confirmation just because it happens on one device.

I hate it!!
What's going on
games sutting down...
yes i too have the same problem!! i think its the kernel?ive tried running it at 1ghz 1.2 ghz 1.5 and 1.6...i dont have a clue as to why anyone got any ideas/
Sometimes the lock screen randomly comes on and the screen shuts off when I watch netflix. Could be the same thing.
with netflix i have no problems!!! hmmm...
I can confirm it happens with a few of my games. Gameboid (GBA emulator) does this. Where I'll be playing for a few seconds and it'll just close on me. As for n64oid, I can play it for ages and it not crash.
I think most people who play games on this phone have the issue. It may not happen on every game but I called Samsung and they have nothing documented on the problem which means there will be no fix because they dont know about it. Everyone should take 5-10 minutes to call customer support. 888-987-help. They wont fix the issue over the phone because they cant but if more people call maybe it will raise some eyebrows. They will ask you to factory reset, just tell them you already did it. They will ask you to send the phone in, tell them you just want the issue documented and escalated.

It happens to me while playing Nova 2 online multiplayer. I use the kick stand case ( which is quality I must say ) for normal use but when I play the game ( several trail runs performed ) I have to remove it due to heat. Rather this is true or not, my opinion for the shutoff is over heating. Plays like a charm in a cool environment with no case.
Just my 2 cents.

Found this post on Sprint forums.
We all have the same problem. Rather or not you've seen doesn't mean that you don't have it. It does related to Soundpool. I understand that now. I also understand that this problem existed in the internation SGSII phones and Samsung has not released a update to fix it yet. Maybe they will later? I don't know. This problem is very old now and Samsung is giving it little attention.
I can reproduce it so easily now that I could show anyone that wants to see it. I know how it happens and a little bit of why it happens. What I don't know is how to stop it from happening. I'm tech savvy but there is limitations to my knowledge. I can't copy over the lighting rom 6.X to work with our CDMA phone and get a decent fix. It could be months before this issue is corrected.
This problem doesn't affect all games. Just a lot of games because it deals with the Soundpool. There are gameloft games that can be played without this problem ever showing up and some of those games have decent graphics. But then other gameloft games have this problem. Developers would have to completely rewrite their games to be compability with our device. That isn't going to happen anytime soon, nor is it really fair to the developer. It takes a lot of work and lot of creativity to create these games we enjoy so much. It would suck to have to attempt to redo because Samsung can't seem to get rid of their software issues.
This problem exsists on ASP roms so no solution there either.

That is pretty much what I confirmed. We have to change the way the soundpool works or we aren't going to get this solved.
It isn't hard to make this bug appear. It has nothing to do with time played in my experience. I can easily reproduce this issue on few games.
Counting on devs for this? shameful samsung

How can u reproduce it? I though it was due to the phone heating up from a graphics heavy game aka dungeon defenders

It isn't related to the heat. It deals with how many enemies are close to you and has nothing to do with time played or heat in dungeon defenders. Make it to the third wave and stand in front of the middle door that has the most mobs coming out and it will crash everytime.

This is happening to me on Jewellust after playing the game for 2 or 3 boards. I don't consider this to be TOO graphic intensive; the phone barely heats up. Is this happening on other GS2 phones or just Sprints?

4g data hangs/Stals

Does anyone else have this issue where data seems to hang and stop working?? Whenever this happens I noticed that the up arrow on the 4g symbol on the notification bar is always green. Also nothing data related loads at all. Web, apps like Facebook and twitter, etc... I'm assuming that the up arrow thing means that something is being uploaded but sometimes it lasts a minute, others it lasts for five or ten. Really annoying. This has happened on all my phones. Nexus one, g1, original galaxy s and now my galaxy s 2. Any help would be awesome
Ps. Sorry for the long intro haha

It's a network issue, only solution at this time if to switch service.
I'm just sayin!
I have the same problem in the Phoenix - Metro area. I've seen that taking the battery out will fix it, but it takes forever to boot, at least it feels this way since it usually happens when I need to connect for something.
Otherwise usually waiting a few seconds and trying again works too.
Its a real pain. I had Sprint before and I didn't have this kind of issues.
Its a known issue. Ive read a ton of threads on it No fix that Im aware of. Its not your phone, its TMo.
I am new to T-mobile and was thinking that i am the only one facing this problem
Called the T-mobile 4 times already and every time they just create a case but never resolve the issue. But now i guess they are already aware of their creepy network but are out of budget to repair the issue

Rarely I have issues with signal freezes and hangs usually seems to come and go. Mostly just putting the phone in and out of airplane mode should reset connection (hold in power button until prompt appears, if phone shuts down with no menu first you need to reflash mine came from TMobile like that use kies to reflash stock phone). If using custom ROM with power options a hot reboot should be most that is needed. If not regular restart should work.
I have found when I get general issues I may not have a fix for I format my cache, my dalvick cache, then run fix permissions and restart. In more stubborn issues try re-flashing your ROM after formatting data and system partitions and clearing cache same as above (make sure to download ROM zips via wifi or transfer via USB from your computer. Zips downloaded this way are less prone to having error correction mistakes during transfer).

I thought it was certain apps at first. It always seemed to happen when I was using the Facebook app so I uninstalled it and that seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks... But now that I know other people have the same problem I blame T-Mobile instead of my apps lol
I don't know why everyone keeps saying it's Tmobile.. I have had 10 different smartphones on tmobile since the g1, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. I'm thinking it's something to do with the phone.. Could be hardware, could be software..

Yeah it's just weird. Everyone I know uses an android, and I have never heard of this issue. Now we have 5 Galaxy S IIs on my family plan, and they all have the issue. I used a friends Sensation for 3 days last week, and the issue was non-existent...

I know for a fact that I first stumbled upon this issue a couple years ago when the Nexus S first launched. During that period, approximately a week before the Nexus was released, I purchased the HTC g2. I played with the g2 up to the release of the Nexus S. During my hands on with the g2, I ran into this same issue often, while surfing or using the phone after not having used it for a certain amount of time, where the"4g" icon would be displayed and the up arrow would be highlighted, while occasionally the down arrow would blink, signifying data communication. After a short while, the page wouldn't load and an error page would show. The Only way I would be able to remedy the problem is to reboot phone, or to switch flight mode on/off. At first I thought it was just the g2, but when I experienced this same identical issue after purchasing the Nexus S, I knew it couldn't be on the hardware side.

This happens on my wife's Galaxy S 4G sometimes - but usually only in areas that have weak signal. It will show that 4G is available and 3 bars or so but won't download anything.
Walk a little further and it starts up again.

extremely long call connect times, lots of blocked calls

Has anyone noticed on their note 2 that its takes FOREVER to connect to a call, IF it does? I've been able to verify the issue across both me and my partners phone. most of the time i have to redial because the call just drops. i really dont want to have to exchange..maybe its the sim card? ideas?

Strangely, I have no issues at all. In fact, it's had some of the best reception of any phone I've had in a very very long time.

Yes we are both experiencing it. I verified the issue with a test call from both our devices from multiple locations throughout the state. And, well, just from everyday use. I'm able to complete small tasks while I wait for the phone to connect. Like put my jacket and shoes on or climb mt everest.
Ok. Seems highly unlikely to have 2 defective units but guess it is possible.

Note 4 Issues?

I currently have an HTC One Max that I will be returning after basically leasing it for a year from Sprint *sigh*. I am interested in picking up the Note 4, and am curious to what issues anyone that currently owns one is having. I have seen reports of GPS issues and dropped calls, so can anyone confirm this or mention any other problems that they may be experiencing. Also interested in the overall experience with the phone, besides few developers. Any input would be appreciated as it will either be this phone or the m9, but I would like to keep a larger screen .
Thanks in advance
A few people saying they've dropped calls doesn't mean anything imo and I haven't read anything about gps problems either. I love my N4. No regrets.

This is the same with my One Max, which I haven't ran into to many scenarios where its been an issue. Would be nice if Sprint were to fix the problem with voice and data that they created. I have read articles about them rolling out a volte solution in the near future, but I am not holding my breathe.
I've had mine for a week or so now and I've run into several situations where people say they've tried to call me but my phone never rang nor did it notify me that I'd missed a call. Still working on trying to figure out if it's the phone or Sprint or something wonky with the rom I've been running.

Looks like way too many people are having this issue.
I counted maybe about 30 or 40 people how may have the sold thousands ?
I try to not run too may apps at once, I do not run any ad supported apps so far had no issues.
The tech support guys talking about rogue apps ? This does happen and there is nothing anybody can do.
Hardware issues nothing is perfect it can be 30 or 40 devices are defective.

I would say use your phone to the fullest, test everything and see if you too have any issues because the phone is in warranty now and if the phone has a hardware problem then it will be covered in warranty. Later on if you face problems then you will have to pay to get it fixed.

My first Pixel would randomly crash and reboot all the time. Sometimes looping 10x on and off. Eventually it'd settle down and let me use it. I sent it in and got a replacement. Since then I haven't had a single freeze or crash. My apps, settings, and files are identical to the first phone. Definitely send it in now, Verizon was nice enough to overnight me the replacement
