[Q] Sense VS CM10 Questions - HTC One X

I have 2 questions, apologies if they are a bit noobish.
Why does the display seem more vibrant when running Sense ROMS? Is this just me?
Will CM10 ever be able to use the Imagesense chip? Because photos on Sense ROMS are miles better than on CM10.

I don't think the screen is any different. CM10 will never use imagesense chip, because it requires sense framework.

Okay, thanks. The contrast seems higher to me, but that could just be me

If you are using auto-brightness it is quite a bit brighter on sense ROMs so that may make them seem more vibrant.

What bugs me is that somehow Sense ROMs manage to still have a significantly better battery life with a quite noticeably brighter screen...

See I agree there but screen wise I think aosp looks much more polished I'd agree with sense looking like its contrast is s bit high

Rooted Incredible not as fast as stock?

Hey everybody, I have a curious question for everyone, have you ever compared your rooted phone to a stock Incredible? I'm just curious because my sister just got a new Incredible from Verizon and it just seemed a little snappier than my phone running CM 6.1 Anyone else ever experience this? Also her screen seemed a bit nicer, is there any chance I recieved an LCD model and she got an LED? How would I find this out? Thaks everybody.

How many apps does she have installed? Just wait a month when she has 20 or 20 so apps downloaded. And if it's still faster, your rooted, you have a custom rom, just overclock, and rip her apart on benchmark.
Haha, the funny thing is she actually has more apps installed than I do. I've never really overclocked my DINC either.

Damn, that's weird. And I only overclock if I'm running a benchmark, or using psx4droid, because nothing says speedy playstation games then 1.19Ghz.
And if it feels speedy then it probably is just the UI (sense) making the basic screens quick and snappy. Both of you download an app that uses alot of processing power (psx4droid) and see who's comes out on top.

Dunno bro.
In my experience with CM with the Droid 1, it's always been a quirks first performance second rom. If you go back to a stock rooted ROM it should be faster.
Just think I found out the opposite, I've had my Incredible since the first day of release, so I should have the AMOLED and she has the SLCD, so does anyone know if the SLCD has better quality than the AMOLED?
Better contrast on the amoleds.

The amoled is hardware version 0002 in settings and slcd is 0003.
Amoleds have a higher contrast ratio, so everything looks a little richer on amoled. However, the pixel arrangement is a little different, so text should look a little clearer on the slcd display.
Its a trade off; I'd go for the amoled if I had a choice.

It may not be the app count that matters as much as the type of apps.. And have you ever changed kernels when you switched to cm6?
Last time I was running Cm 6.1 I had Invisibleks #18
Its a number of things. A huge dalvik cache from regular use, browser history, app cache, lots of gmail, text messages, ****ty apps with memory leaks, album thumbs, sync schedules, etc. Also an odexed phone optimizes an app's library making it slightly snappier.
ok, well invisa-whatever(can never remember its name???) is a "special" kernel(sorry if your its dev and reading this), apps arent gona kill you that much... if you running slower rooted and on a dif rom then chances are its your kernel... most roms run faster than the stock. OC'd phone have a tenancy to kill battery very quickly, and the inc already has bad batt life(only thing I dont like about it) so I would suggest flashing a dif kenrel and possibly a dif rom... find a rom w/ sense that you like and ziggy is where its at... if you can find a asop kenrel by him(there are a few i think) then that would likely be your best bet for non sense kernels. His kernels are usually very snappy and can be OC'd if you really want, not to mention the batt life is amazing by comparison. I hate to sound like a ziggy fan boy but it really is the best kernel set I have ever used.

Whats Better

Hey Guys whats better my cousin keeps on bugging me and he dosen't like my oppinion so I'll aks you guys instead so that he'll finally stop so
What do you guys think
AOKP or HTC Sense?
Better in what way?
To me its all a matter of preference. I've never been able to stand a Sense ROM more than a week.

Overall Performance and the Camera Quality
Again, its a matter of preference. Some people like Cameras apps from other ROMs, or off the market. Performance is a mixed bag too. I never had much luck with Sense 3.0 or 3.5 ROMs with performance, but other people say it works flawless.
Just give him the advice that probably 90% of the people here would: try them out and find out what works for you.
But if your looking for an opinion... the best cameras I've used have been in sense roms, but other than for the camera I can't stand sense, never cared much for eye candy.
I prefer speed and stability so I would say the best is aosp, aokp, cm, even miui. But never sense... again just adding my 0.02$

Thankyou alot guys now I could review for my tests on Monday
If you're talking bout something at the level of ICS 4.0.4, then I would say 'performance' wise AOKP is going to be better in general, not as much 'eye-candy' and such you'd get from Sense. (As far as I know, no Sense ICS rom has a working camera yet).
But if you're talking Gingerbread and earlier, it's really going to depend on the custom Rom. For example AOKP is most likely going to out perform a stock sense install, but a custom Sense Rom could be on par.
Guess it depends on where your priorities are, do you need more eye candy, or are you aiming more for raw performance/functionality?

There are some ICS Roms that have camera and camcoreder working on the DZ, like Ice Cream Jibwich and AOKP bulids for vision (those were the only ROMS I got to try, so those are the only ones I know. )

ahh... well none yet but once the DHD gets that ICS update Dev's we'll get that Sense 4.0 camera up and running!
and hey why is that Kernel 3.0 from the DHD so important? the people from the Desire S forums have it already.
If ur cousin want a best camera yet performance out of it,get the xperia sense by taz instead..it doest use sense as launcher, but use xperia launcher which was really light..like running 17mb for me.. it's a fast yet with function of sense

[Q] Sense 4.0 Roms

Hi,
I have a few questions about sense 4.0 roms:
What is the difference between 4.0 4.0a or lite roms?
How is the camera compared to the stock rom and are all effects like on the onex are working well?
How is the battery life/stablity/performance compared with stock?
Are there other cons of using sense 4.0 instead of the stock?
Which rom do you recommend?
Metin
Personally I don't really like sense but I'll help you anyway
Sense 4 ROMs are the full sense experience whereas sense 4a/4 lite ROMs are a slightly different experience (a lil but slimmed down I believe)
Stock as in 2.3.5 and sense 3? The camera is a little better in my opinion but that's up to you. I don't know if effects are working.
Most ROMs I've seen are pretty stable and the battery life seems to be ok. Performance wise I think that they are pretty much lag free and a ok.

Hehe forgot to add that bit in... I saw the one x advert that day and was like wow! Now I have that functionality on my device
The devs have really done a great job with Infinity

Yeah! They sure have. I was very surprised when I saw that feature working. I thought for sure it would be disabled. The ROM is great. But I'm a total AOSP fan now and can never go back to Sense. I wish we had that feature in the JB ROMs. The Galaxy Nexus can do it by tapping the screen while recording video. It'd be brilliant if there was some way to get that working here.
Just saw your signature. Nokia N95 - what a phone man, what a phone.

What is it about TouchWiz that is so bad?

I'm just curious about why Stock TouchWiz releases or TW custom ROMs get such a bad rap here at xda?
I do love AOSP or CM custom ROMs and all their customizability but I do also like some of the TW features and layouts, etc...
I'm just curious if I'm missing something here and if there are inherent bugs, flaws, etc with TW ROMs that make them rather unpopular?
Or is this simply personal preference again and one that has a big consensus majority here for whatever reasons?
Thanks

I think it's mainly preferences. I prefer mess gimmicky functions so I flashed cm10. It feels like I'm using less battery regardless if I actually am or not.

The camera is the only reason why I refuse to leave TW, it's simply better. TW itself isn't that bad at all either.
I agree on this one and it's better stock features. But I hated cm intill I gave it three days now I love it snapper more basic features customizable and support now there are things that I hate speakerphone doesn't work can't find task manager I don't get why it's not there like touchwiz but I'm a noob so I think these issues will resolve themselves over time with me understanding how to use root explorer nova launcher etc.

Yea... i'd have to say the camera is my biggest draw towards sticking with a TouchWiz based ROM. Touchwiz has a nice camera.... yet CM/AOKP seem to have far superior battery life.
I wouldn't exactly say that Touchwiz ROM's get a bad rep here. I mean... look at how many there are.
Its strictly preference. Tw doesn't offer as much user customization, whereas most aosp based roms do. I've tried both, i like both.

I just restored back to stock ICS after running CM10 for 10 days. I really dig the camera on TW.
Another thing I like about TW is the Contacts integration with Swiping Left to Text / Right to Call. I noticed this was the biggest thing that I was missing when using CM10.
Other than that, I don't use any of the Social integration, so I wouldn't know about that.

I was getting 5 hours of screen time using LTE for most the day and almost 6 hours (5.58) using just Wi-Fi. This was on TouchWiz with the standard 2,100 mAh battery on a TW JB leak ROM. Not to mention a bunch of widgets on my home screen. CM10/ASKP really tops that?

Same here! I have tried many ROMS in the past week. I loved many of them..AOKP...CM..but the one thing that kills it for me is the camera. The stock camera is great. Cant even find anything comparable in the play store to use with another ROM
only thing i hate about TW is that it is BUTT UGLY. It still looks like gingerbread still... I understand that green uses less power than blue, but the rest of the UI is just really bad. I am staying with stock only because of camera quality, dock compatibility, and allshare cast compatibility. If it werent for those things, I wouldve stayed on my Galaxy Nexus

i tried to do a search over in the Android Dev section on 'TouchWiz', but i didn't see too many.
the one that stood out to me was JellyBean747 Milestone 7 Graystone Edition.
i would like to switch back to TouchWiz, but only if its JellyBean. either 4.1, 4.1.1, or 4.1.2, any suggestions?
edit: also found FrostyJB_4.1.1-v3~[10.24.2012]
Uh... EVERY Rom in the android dev section is based on Touchwiz.
As for a recommendation... drewgaren's Serenity Rom is quite nice... haven't tried his Milestone 7 Rom yet, but I used previous Milestone versions and also had no issues. Difference between the Milestone roms and Serenity is that Serenity is built off of the stock Galaxy Note 2 Rom, whereas the Milestones are based on GS3 leaks.

Sense 6 camera on GPe?

So I guess it's not possible to use the Sense 6 camera on stock KitKat, can someone explain why or what a dev would have to accomplish to port it?
Imo the google camera is pretty ****ty compared to the Sense camera, it made some great picutes, but I just love stock KitKat on my phone.. What's the best solution here? Another ROM?
Also, would a camera alternative from the Play store possibly help here?
Edit: Oh ****, I posted this in General, not Q&A, Help and Troubleshoot, sorry mods, please move the thread if necessary :/

Have you tried this google camera it's pretty decent https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera I also believe in the future they will release some of their software in the market for all devices running kit kat and above like Zoe and stuff.
If the camera in Sense is anything like previous HTC cameras (which it most likely is), it is tightly tied in with HTC Sense and is pretty much impossible to port. That's the sacrifice that you make giving up the HTC framework. Why not just use the Google Experience Launcher on a Sense build? Cuts down the bloat (although Sense 6 is incredibly smooth) but you can still use all of the phone's features.

I just love to play around with stuff, like GravityBox and other Xposed modules, different launchers, boot animations and believe me I tried stock Sense and Viper rom, but I'm just in love with my phone the way it is right now. Well, I guess I'll have to try again with Sense, since imo the Google Camera is not pretty decent. Pictures are always too bright, no matter where the focus is, it's awful.
RAM usage on stock is so much better, the UI is smooth on both but heavy games make Sense suffer. Battery life is great on both, not so much on ViperRom.
I see you're on InsertCoin, how's battery life there? Because as much as I liked Viper, it drained my battery too fast. I use ElementalX Kernel too.
I would not say that sense 6 is incredibly smooth. I would say it's smooth until you start doing things very quickly, then it stutters which made me choose gpe over sense. Also gravity box does offer a perfect amount of customizability. I also miss the sense camera but Meh, what can ya do??

Nothing against Viper but I have found that InsertCoin is better optimized for battery life and performance on both the M7 and now the M8. Viper focuses on total customization and is loaded to the brim with features but I feel that comes at an expense battery-wise.
I also don't have any problems with any stuttering or anything on InsertCoin that I can tell, its actually quite a smooth experience. Its faster than my Nexus 7 in every way - that may not be a fair comparison up front but my M7 was noticeably laggy doing some things (heavy gaming for one) and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore with the M8.
Battery life is phenomenal. I got 49 hours out of the last charge but that only accounted for 71% of total usage since I did a reboot to change kernels. It included 2hr15m of screen on time which doesn't sound like much but when you factor in the fact that it was time spent playing Brave Frontier, a game that beats down the battery on my Nexus 7 and tore up my M7 (not to mention overheated it), it becomes even more impressive. I don't use Greenify or anything, had WiFi and LTE on the whole time, GPS was enabled, etc.

Strange, I don't know actually. It seems to be gone now. My phone got quite warm, RAM usage was low the whole time so I guess the CPU was the problem. Now everything seems smooth! It was like micro lags all over the phone...
