After testing several ROM's I'd like to see your opinion about which one is runnig the smoothest - I still stick to robo's HD version right now. And yes I know there isn't THE smoothest rom, I'm just interested in some opinions.
I have to say in terms of hd I found rcmixhf the best but by far the best so far has to be leedroid nice mixture of features and reliability not to mention battery. Miui is the fastest and best non sense very stylish fast and reliable though I'm not a fan of the the way the apps are stored.

I have tested almost every major rom.
I have decided to stick with Cyanogen
Now switched to Miui .29 ....lolzzzz
I think it would be auraxTsense 7.9 for me followed closely by AlexV1.7. I never had much luck with ASOP rom on the desire.
Have to say leedroid 2.2e is as fast and smooth as you can get it, OD is still favourite thought.
I've allways had a softspot for Cyanogen roms, alltho I'm way to much in love with the Sense UI. After all Sense roms I've tried I've become very impressed with Pays roms. He's not updating like crazy and all updates are as steady and smooth as can be, imo.
Only backside with all Sense roms is that noone has implemented the BlueZ bluetooth stack. I want to be able to use my Wiimote, damn it!
Hey Guys whats better my cousin keeps on bugging me and he dosen't like my oppinion so I'll aks you guys instead so that he'll finally stop so
What do you guys think
AOKP or HTC Sense?
Better in what way?
To me its all a matter of preference. I've never been able to stand a Sense ROM more than a week.

Overall Performance and the Camera Quality
Again, its a matter of preference. Some people like Cameras apps from other ROMs, or off the market. Performance is a mixed bag too. I never had much luck with Sense 3.0 or 3.5 ROMs with performance, but other people say it works flawless.
Just give him the advice that probably 90% of the people here would: try them out and find out what works for you.
But if your looking for an opinion... the best cameras I've used have been in sense roms, but other than for the camera I can't stand sense, never cared much for eye candy.
I prefer speed and stability so I would say the best is aosp, aokp, cm, even miui. But never sense... again just adding my 0.02$

Thankyou alot guys now I could review for my tests on Monday
If you're talking bout something at the level of ICS 4.0.4, then I would say 'performance' wise AOKP is going to be better in general, not as much 'eye-candy' and such you'd get from Sense. (As far as I know, no Sense ICS rom has a working camera yet).
But if you're talking Gingerbread and earlier, it's really going to depend on the custom Rom. For example AOKP is most likely going to out perform a stock sense install, but a custom Sense Rom could be on par.
Guess it depends on where your priorities are, do you need more eye candy, or are you aiming more for raw performance/functionality?

There are some ICS Roms that have camera and camcoreder working on the DZ, like Ice Cream Jibwich and AOKP bulids for vision (those were the only ROMS I got to try, so those are the only ones I know. )

But are either of them SENSE 4.0? I was specifically referring to Sense Roms. I know some work, as I'm using an ICS rom where it works.

ahh... well none yet but once the DHD gets that ICS update Dev's we'll get that Sense 4.0 camera up and running!
and hey why is that Kernel 3.0 from the DHD so important? the people from the Desire S forums have it already.
If ur cousin want a best camera yet performance out of it,get the xperia sense by taz instead..it doest use sense as launcher, but use xperia launcher which was really light..like running 17mb for me.. it's a fast yet with function of sense

Until the two come together, which one would you pick for now and why?
I would say viper because it's highly customizable. I have used cm10. It's preety damn fast but you can always install a custom kernel ( faux or nix) to make it buttery smooth.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I used cm10 for a few weeks to test it out, but then realised how much I missed sense's superior camera and sound (with mods of course). Also, sense is what makes the phone unique. Hard choice.

Have to agree with above posts, the Jellybean roms run super smooth and quick, and look nice etc, but the camera is basic.
So if you don't use your camera i would say go with a JB rom, but if you like the features of the Sense camera then stick with Viper for now.
Any sense based rom I quite rely on sense for its camera, better email client, Facebook integration, widgets, and such.
I've tried the jelly bean roms and miui but always come break to sense.
It depends on your usage and such try them both out and find which you prefer to use.

Tried 4.1 for few days, but had to come back to sense. This makes HTC phones unique and there are so many features that lack in CM roms. Also, Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.
I was in rd miui jelly bean for two days and was great, using stock kernel but I think it needs a custom kernel for better battery.
Viperx is amazing. But Now I m on ordroidx, I dont know tomorrow. Love flashing and modding.

I used Ice Cold Jelly and stick to it since then ^^
I love the stock android feeling since ICS and Jellybean just makes it even better.
I asked myself the same question many times, the pro's for viper being the fact it could be modded to have the least possible sense (which I just find annoying, there is too much of everything...) the battery life and te camera.
But I stay on ICJ, it has great support from both the kernel dev (ncx) and LordClockan which is allways helping. You can't theme Sense suc perfectly back to stock as stock allready is, the AOKP toggles are just awesome for me and having a Nexus 7 I am not having two different panoramas.
Thanks to the ncx kernel it's fast and stable but also with minimal battery drain.
I would tell you to try both, and stick with the one you prefer.
Another point I keep in mind is that I will never again buy from HTC (the S-ON fact and sense of course) So stock is the best way to have the most chances to keep your references... (that's why I searched stock, coming from a Galaxy Nexus).
Good luck !
Said it before, Footballs maximus rom owns. It just works. I used to jump around Ice Cold and allsorts on DHD, always trying to find the perfect rom... i really have nothing to fix on this. Stock kernel too. it just works. Admittedly, some games are VERY slightly juddery, but I have a Nexus 7 too, so I game much less on the One X now. I tried Viper..... Really wasnt for me. Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
yes,the same by me,i like to test rom but mydaily rom is the great viper;its fast shure,Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.maby one day it comes the version from htc with sense4.? and JellyBean,i love sense sinse i have had this touch diamond2,over the touch hd and the wonderful desire.
Its like religion or ähh politic ore somethink i dont know
Jellybean or Renovate or ARHD....simple as that mate...and if you like to customize then go with MIUI
@ edge3uk
Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
thats silly,blödsinn, quatsch, man you boring or what?
For me ..Domination ROM is the best..but battery not good as Sense ROMs and other ROMs

I used CM10 for few weeks but like few before me have mentioned, battery life is not that great and camera is really awful, so now I'm back on Viper X. JB is nice, smoother and quicker, but for me personally that marginal performance difference is not worth sacrificing battery, camera or stability (and then there are few other nifty little features of sense that I like , such as beats audio profiles, FM radio, weather and clock animations etc).
Hey Guys,
I am considering switching to ICJ or CM for regular daily stable use, I'm not frequent flasher, as in once I flash I expect to run on it for weeks. I noticed that the usual bugs shown for CM and ICJ seem to have stayed pretty much the same, like MHL output, incall volumne and grey images on camera for CM.
This puts me at a little doubt if it is suitable for daily use and how is it for gaming as I do game a lot on travel journeys.
Unless I'm mistaken, ICJ seems to indicate less bugs compared to CM? So yeah I am seriously considering so please let me know what you guys think in terms of daily use + gaming.
Is battery life also an issue? Last I heard CM and ICJ AOKP had battery drain issues?
I was sorta like in the same position as you.
My first flash was ViperX in combination with a AOSP Jellybean theme. And I have been using that for a long time because of the stories of stability about aosp/aokp.
Only recently (2/3weeks) I started using IceColdJelly because of the then base 3.18 WiFi bug on sense.
I couldn't have been more happier with my OneX to be honest, its like a complete upgrade looks(imo) & performance wise
I haven't really noticed any difference with the battery so far between ICJ or ViperX or stock but im a pretty generic user, just whatsapping/messaging and some youtube/internet.
So far I havent seen any bugs so iam really pleased to have switched to ICJ and there arent really any big downsides to it.
Never tried CM so I cant tell you anything about it.
ok sounds promising, have you fired up any games? I use my phones for a lot things message, emails, games, music etc
Just worried about graphics driver issues or any thing like that.
Im using ice cold and I played games on it street fighter 4, modern combat 4 all work really well, I play a lot of games so yes its a really good rom man go for it, I just moved yesterday to it
I am with the same dilemma.
And about camera quality? Dialer and contacs?
That's what I think sense has some advantages.
I am considering Sense rom + rom cleaner + nova launcher.

Sense ROM can make use of the hox image chip where as aosp/aokp can't hence the lower image quality.
I've been using CyanogenMod on my phone for a few days now and the camera isn't much worse but you definitely see it when you use the flash.
I'm currently using MX camera just for the cool effects I have a DSLR camera so I don't use my phone for photographs only a quick snap for Facebook or something.
They rest how ever is totally bug free

@ op you should test for yourself and all that depends on what you need from your device as example when I need mhl I revert to sense and when I really need my camera I do it also but with the recent changes in the camera in cm and Aokp the camera now is way better very near to sense... So aging you should decide for yourself...

Vert suitable for daily use

Yep this is a dilemma, I use my camera phone quite a lot and definitely appreciate the extra quality but then again I recently started to use CameraZoom so does that mean it is not utilizing the HOX image chip better? Or is this more low level that any camera app will benefit as long as it is a sense rom?
I'll make a decision after more consideration and reading up on. Additional opinions and comments appreciated.
Try CarbonRom, I've tried CM & ICJ not that there was anything wrong with them but with Carbon you get the best of both customization wise.
Battery life is good, gets me through the day with atleast 4h screen on. And I use it pretty heavily mainly Whatsapp, Twitter, IG, G+ and Flipboard.
Not any noticeable issues so far, no camera problems, I'm not a heavy gamer so cant tell you much there.
.
I tested a few sense roms and CM/AOSP roms. So far I liked the CM based roms the most, I run CM10.1 atm since most of the ported roms don't have the full language support (mixed languages in menus english and german in my case).
So I guess it's not possible to use the Sense 6 camera on stock KitKat, can someone explain why or what a dev would have to accomplish to port it?
Imo the google camera is pretty ****ty compared to the Sense camera, it made some great picutes, but I just love stock KitKat on my phone.. What's the best solution here? Another ROM?
Also, would a camera alternative from the Play store possibly help here?
Edit: Oh ****, I posted this in General, not Q&A, Help and Troubleshoot, sorry mods, please move the thread if necessary :/

Have you tried this google camera it's pretty decent https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera I also believe in the future they will release some of their software in the market for all devices running kit kat and above like Zoe and stuff.
If the camera in Sense is anything like previous HTC cameras (which it most likely is), it is tightly tied in with HTC Sense and is pretty much impossible to port. That's the sacrifice that you make giving up the HTC framework. Why not just use the Google Experience Launcher on a Sense build? Cuts down the bloat (although Sense 6 is incredibly smooth) but you can still use all of the phone's features.

I just love to play around with stuff, like GravityBox and other Xposed modules, different launchers, boot animations and believe me I tried stock Sense and Viper rom, but I'm just in love with my phone the way it is right now. Well, I guess I'll have to try again with Sense, since imo the Google Camera is not pretty decent. Pictures are always too bright, no matter where the focus is, it's awful.
RAM usage on stock is so much better, the UI is smooth on both but heavy games make Sense suffer. Battery life is great on both, not so much on ViperRom.
I see you're on InsertCoin, how's battery life there? Because as much as I liked Viper, it drained my battery too fast. I use ElementalX Kernel too.
I would not say that sense 6 is incredibly smooth. I would say it's smooth until you start doing things very quickly, then it stutters which made me choose gpe over sense. Also gravity box does offer a perfect amount of customizability. I also miss the sense camera but Meh, what can ya do??

Nothing against Viper but I have found that InsertCoin is better optimized for battery life and performance on both the M7 and now the M8. Viper focuses on total customization and is loaded to the brim with features but I feel that comes at an expense battery-wise.
I also don't have any problems with any stuttering or anything on InsertCoin that I can tell, its actually quite a smooth experience. Its faster than my Nexus 7 in every way - that may not be a fair comparison up front but my M7 was noticeably laggy doing some things (heavy gaming for one) and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore with the M8.
Battery life is phenomenal. I got 49 hours out of the last charge but that only accounted for 71% of total usage since I did a reboot to change kernels. It included 2hr15m of screen on time which doesn't sound like much but when you factor in the fact that it was time spent playing Brave Frontier, a game that beats down the battery on my Nexus 7 and tore up my M7 (not to mention overheated it), it becomes even more impressive. I don't use Greenify or anything, had WiFi and LTE on the whole time, GPS was enabled, etc.

Strange, I don't know actually. It seems to be gone now. My phone got quite warm, RAM usage was low the whole time so I guess the CPU was the problem. Now everything seems smooth! It was like micro lags all over the phone...
