Viper or Jellybean? - HTC One X

Until the two come together, which one would you pick for now and why?

I would say viper because it's highly customizable. I have used cm10. It's preety damn fast but you can always install a custom kernel ( faux or nix) to make it buttery smooth.

I used cm10 for a few weeks to test it out, but then realised how much I missed sense's superior camera and sound (with mods of course). Also, sense is what makes the phone unique. Hard choice.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Have to agree with above posts, the Jellybean roms run super smooth and quick, and look nice etc, but the camera is basic.
So if you don't use your camera i would say go with a JB rom, but if you like the features of the Sense camera then stick with Viper for now.

Any sense based rom I quite rely on sense for its camera, better email client, Facebook integration, widgets, and such.
I've tried the jelly bean roms and miui but always come break to sense.
It depends on your usage and such try them both out and find which you prefer to use.

Tried 4.1 for few days, but had to come back to sense. This makes HTC phones unique and there are so many features that lack in CM roms. Also, Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.

I was in rd miui jelly bean for two days and was great, using stock kernel but I think it needs a custom kernel for better battery.
Viperx is amazing. But Now I m on ordroidx, I dont know tomorrow. Love flashing and modding.

I used Ice Cold Jelly and stick to it since then ^^
I love the stock android feeling since ICS and Jellybean just makes it even better.
I asked myself the same question many times, the pro's for viper being the fact it could be modded to have the least possible sense (which I just find annoying, there is too much of everything...) the battery life and te camera.
But I stay on ICJ, it has great support from both the kernel dev (ncx) and LordClockan which is allways helping. You can't theme Sense suc perfectly back to stock as stock allready is, the AOKP toggles are just awesome for me and having a Nexus 7 I am not having two different panoramas.
Thanks to the ncx kernel it's fast and stable but also with minimal battery drain.
I would tell you to try both, and stick with the one you prefer.
Another point I keep in mind is that I will never again buy from HTC (the S-ON fact and sense of course) So stock is the best way to have the most chances to keep your references... (that's why I searched stock, coming from a Galaxy Nexus).
Good luck !

Said it before, Footballs maximus rom owns. It just works. I used to jump around Ice Cold and allsorts on DHD, always trying to find the perfect rom... i really have nothing to fix on this. Stock kernel too. it just works. Admittedly, some games are VERY slightly juddery, but I have a Nexus 7 too, so I game much less on the One X now. I tried Viper..... Really wasnt for me. Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....

yes,the same by me,i like to test rom but mydaily rom is the great viper;its fast shure,Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.maby one day it comes the version from htc with sense4.? and JellyBean,i love sense sinse i have had this touch diamond2,over the touch hd and the wonderful desire.
Its like religion or ähh politic ore somethink i dont know

Jellybean or Renovate or ARHD....simple as that mate...and if you like to customize then go with MIUI

@ edge3uk
Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
thats silly,blödsinn, quatsch, man you boring or what?

For me ..Domination ROM is the best..but battery not good as Sense ROMs and other ROMs

I used CM10 for few weeks but like few before me have mentioned, battery life is not that great and camera is really awful, so now I'm back on Viper X. JB is nice, smoother and quicker, but for me personally that marginal performance difference is not worth sacrificing battery, camera or stability (and then there are few other nifty little features of sense that I like , such as beats audio profiles, FM radio, weather and clock animations etc).

[Q] What is the overall smoothest ROM right now?

After testing several ROM's I'd like to see your opinion about which one is runnig the smoothest - I still stick to robo's HD version right now. And yes I know there isn't THE smoothest rom, I'm just interested in some opinions.
I have to say in terms of hd I found rcmixhf the best but by far the best so far has to be leedroid nice mixture of features and reliability not to mention battery. Miui is the fastest and best non sense very stylish fast and reliable though I'm not a fan of the the way the apps are stored.

I have tested almost every major rom.
I have decided to stick with Cyanogen
Now switched to Miui .29 ....lolzzzz
I think it would be auraxTsense 7.9 for me followed closely by AlexV1.7. I never had much luck with ASOP rom on the desire.
Have to say leedroid 2.2e is as fast and smooth as you can get it, OD is still favourite thought.
I've allways had a softspot for Cyanogen roms, alltho I'm way to much in love with the Sense UI. After all Sense roms I've tried I've become very impressed with Pays roms. He's not updating like crazy and all updates are as steady and smooth as can be, imo.
Only backside with all Sense roms is that noone has implemented the BlueZ bluetooth stack. I want to be able to use my Wiimote, damn it!

[Q] What's your favorite 4.0.4 rom?

Ok dudes!
What is your favorite rom based on 4.0.4?
And why?
ARHD 9.3.2 - Very fast, clean & stable!
Stock
I perceive no significant speed or battery improvements with custom roms and stock is rock solid with none of the glitches I see posted in the threads
Many of them offer extra features but in some instances its at the cost of stability or speed.
I think HTC should be commended for providing a stock experience as good as this. Previously they've left a lot for chefs to improve upon but not this time imo.

ViperX by Team Venom
Rock solid sense rom (can be desensed if desired), endless amount of tweaks and mods you can utilize for personalizing the look of your device, plus the fact OTAs can be pushed directly from Team Venom, straight to your device and the fact you can design your own themes, boot animations, down animations etc etc.
It's a rock solid stock rom, with ways to personalize... perfect to me
Yeah I use Venom rom for nearly 2 months now thanks to the tweaks, tough I keep having network problems, wana try another rom to see if it will be corrected or not
I'm very interested in this topic. I'm still on stock, can't decide which ROM to flash, that is worth breaking my 2 year warranty.
So pls, if others can share their experience here
Talking about performance and battery life, is it worth flashing custom ROM (ARHD, ViperX, or CleanROM, all with sense), compared to stock 4.0.4? Can you notice big difference?
Thanks in advance
I’m on Viper X, the most customizable Sense ROM.

No, In terms of pure performance and battery life, the difference is not worth loosing warranty. The main reason why I switched was because I couldn't stand that dreadful 3 dot menu bar (this was before official 4.0.4 came out). And I also wanted to try out Jellybean (CM10). But now I'm back on Viper (Sense ROM) because CM10 battery life was bad and the camera performance was terrible.
If you dont need customization maybe consider InsertCoin. Also fast and stable

Also stock. Till HTC does updates, nothing else.
Well customized stock on my part. With stuffs, mods, optimizations, custom kernel.
I prefer it that way as to get some ALL IN ONE package where I do not need half of the stuff or where I have to depend on someone else to give me support.
Maybe the most custom I would go is getting deodexed as its easier for the mods. But now kinda happy with the odex as well.
After the support of HTC stops on this phone and I will still have it. CM that will be

I'm running ARHD 9.7.0. atm, no problems whatsoever. Its a fast, reliable rom with some great tweaks. Batterylife seems a bit better then stock, but then again that just might be my imagination
Havent tried any other rom yet but I'm curious about MIUI, i have used MIUI on my old Desire for over a year and was very satisfied then.
Any opinions about MIUI on a HOX?
Tried ARHD 9.7 for a week, didn't saw improvements from the stock rom. Neither battery or something else. In fact got issues with some apps and moved to ViperX rom. Good, stable, lots of tweaks, customizations and very important - OTA updates.
I tryed both ARHD and ViperX on faux 10u kernel, and had to say almost no difference in stability and performance(although ARHD seemed to be a bit more fast in HD gaming). But i prefer ViperX only because of the endless amount of tweaks esp. the 3-finger gestures customization and the OTA viper updates.
Well. My favorite Rom is Android Revolution HD. Now I'm using Coredroid to test.

Used to go with ARHD 9.x but couldn't really see any improvements compared to stock.
Now when I feel like using ICS 4.0.4 with Sense 4.1, I go with Ordroid. Definitely rock stable, smooth, and has one of the best battery life I've had (more than I really need).
About 2 days worth of battery (light-medium use such as messaging, whatsapp, browsing on 3g/wifi) with about 2 hrs screen on time. No games though.
Btw, I use stock kernel whenever I go with ICS/Sense. Hope this helps someone out. :good:

Which ROM's have better battery life ? CM10 or Sense ?

I am ditching Verizon, and my cool Galaxy Nexus, running CM10. Going to pick up an international One X to use on Straight Talk. I really love the gorgeous display on the One X, plus the sexy cool design as well. And I am burned out on my last few Samsung phones, for crappy GPS locking, and pissy radios and WiFi.
Anyways, I use my phone a lot during the day, and prefer battery life over cool whiz bang features. I have read people saying that Sense based ROM's offer much battery life over CM10 JB ROM's, is that true ?
I like the look and feel of stock Android Jellybean, but won't install a CM10 ROM if it has poor battery life, and am willing to give a good Sense ROM a shot if it will offer better battery life ?
Opinions wanted please, thanks.
To me, sense now has amazing battery life, can't say it did have not to long ago. The latest sense based roms include superb battery life even with moderate to full use my battery holds out even past the end of the day. However, I can't comment on how this compares with aosp and aokp roms, I never really stray from sense you see, not now it's improved dramatically both in performance and battery life
To me, sense roms, down to personal preferences but like I said, I haven't tried any other roms other than sense
Good luck.

In my experience Sense ROMs are significantly better when it comes to battery life. Standby times are simply amazing. Also the sense camera is much better than whats included in CM10.
I Agree, the one thing i like about sense ROMs is the camera app. i pretty much hate the rest of the sense. but from what i've seen my battery life with sense wasnt so bad. But i've fall in love with PA ROM.
Android Revolution HD has a very decent battery life and silky smooth on everything ... Go for it :good:

Does that CM10 ROM offer any customization like center clock in the status bar, or is it just a pure CM10 build only, no extras ?
I can imagine the screen on the One X has to look absolutely beautiful with the CM advanced color settings ?

It's pure... But fast I briefly tried some others with more customizations but they were not perfect smooth. I have gotten so used to it so it's hard to forget when trying other roms. You could look for standalone mods i guess if u would go with this one, however I'm not at all updated with content so don't know how much there is/what is available.

Why don't you try Viper X (sense ROM), you can remove most sense UI bits and make it look very close to AOSP without compromising on battery life or other sense features (i.e: Camera, FM Radio)
Love the look of the stock JB ROMs, but the battery life just doesn't do it for me. I will suffer with Sense's look until more efficient ROMs are available.

Which bits can you remove though? I for one cannot stand the Sense Dialer, Contact List, Gallery, SMS app and Music Player. If they can be replaced with stock ICS apps that would be pretty awesome.
I used have a GNex that ran on Minco v4 (Stolen, hope the thief rots in hell and the phone blows up in his hand to send him there), Now I have a OneX with ViperX 2.2.1 and Faux Kernel. The battery life is significantly better. I have tried JB roms in my HOX but all of them were a bit buggy and had very poor battery life. You should definitely go for a sense rom with faux kernel.

Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705334. I use ViperX and it offered me to remove sense when it updated to 2.1. But that messed up the phone completely and I had to restore from a nandroid backup. But this rom seems to have a non-sense version and people don't seem to be complaining much. Maybe worth a try

I was losing about 5% every 10 minutes with the screen on the lowest setting with any current Jelly Bean ROM.
I get 4+ hours on screen time at 50% brightness with OrDroid's SENSE based ROM.
I text a lot, words with friends, draw something, news apps, music...
I'm doing 4h ish too with paranoid android. mostly IMs twitter instagram. ebook reading and sometimes draw something. browsing if necessary.

Wow, 4hrs is a lot! i barely get 2.5 hours + 45mins talk time on Ordroid with 3g usage at 3 hours and wifi during work. Came to this thread to see if any JB improvements had been made recently.
You guys on the stock Ordroid kernel? Underclocked?
I would use a good custom kernel. I'm currently using slim bean with ncx kernel and I get 4.5 hours of screen time.

GB, ICS or JB ROM?

I am probably going to root my friends DHD soon and wondering if I should stick with CM7.2 as I presume its pretty rock solid and reasonably fast or go with an ICS or JB rom that obviously has newer features but could be less stable. I know everyone's perfect roms aren't the same but are there any ICS/JB roms out there for the DHD that are stable, quick, having (almost) everything worling and preferably stock AOSP rather than sense?
I'm from the desire so don't know much about the DHD scene, any recommendations would be appreciated
Cheers
I should try Sabsa Prime V9 (can't judge V10 yet) because it's so smooth as you possibly won't see ever again in a Sense ROM.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda PREMIUM running Sabsa Prime V9.
aospX. It's in the Inspire 4G forums, but I4G ROMs are compatible with DHDs. Almost pure AOSP.
EDIT: Another advantage is that aospX is still actively supported by the developer existz; the other AOSP-like ROM (though AOKP) is IceColdSandwich in the DHD forums, but the developer LordclockaN has officially moved on (thought he still stops by every now and then). aospX updates less often, but each one is rock solid.
I would personally recommend AOKP over AOSPx- it's been updated a little more recently, and a lot more tweaks. Stable too. However, the camera is no where up to par with the HTC Sense ones- with a sense ROM I can take digital camera quality images, whereas with the stock AOSP camera I can at best take semi okay images. Maybe not an issue, but for me it was.
ViperDHD is the best 4.x and HTC Sense ROM for our phone in terms of tweaks, but I think it's slow as a hog, although others may have different experiences.
I wouldn't go with JB if your friend needs someone else to root their phone . While it's mostly stable, battery life isn't always up to par. The only ROM I've gotten daily user battery life from is MIUI by bliind (haven't tried the knew one though)
However, my final recommendation would be Blackout ICS. It's extremely stable, is fairly fast, and has a good amount of tweaks. Sense 3.6 android 4.0.4. If you want to go with GB, go with blackice and change the dpi back to stock (240).
Better yet, check out my sig
Ok thank you for the recommendations guys ill have a look.
Cheers!

Seriously considering AOKP or CM - Stable enough?

Hey Guys,
I am considering switching to ICJ or CM for regular daily stable use, I'm not frequent flasher, as in once I flash I expect to run on it for weeks. I noticed that the usual bugs shown for CM and ICJ seem to have stayed pretty much the same, like MHL output, incall volumne and grey images on camera for CM.
This puts me at a little doubt if it is suitable for daily use and how is it for gaming as I do game a lot on travel journeys.
Unless I'm mistaken, ICJ seems to indicate less bugs compared to CM? So yeah I am seriously considering so please let me know what you guys think in terms of daily use + gaming.
Is battery life also an issue? Last I heard CM and ICJ AOKP had battery drain issues?
I was sorta like in the same position as you.
My first flash was ViperX in combination with a AOSP Jellybean theme. And I have been using that for a long time because of the stories of stability about aosp/aokp.
Only recently (2/3weeks) I started using IceColdJelly because of the then base 3.18 WiFi bug on sense.
I couldn't have been more happier with my OneX to be honest, its like a complete upgrade looks(imo) & performance wise
I haven't really noticed any difference with the battery so far between ICJ or ViperX or stock but im a pretty generic user, just whatsapping/messaging and some youtube/internet.
So far I havent seen any bugs so iam really pleased to have switched to ICJ and there arent really any big downsides to it.
Never tried CM so I cant tell you anything about it.
ok sounds promising, have you fired up any games? I use my phones for a lot things message, emails, games, music etc
Just worried about graphics driver issues or any thing like that.
Im using ice cold and I played games on it street fighter 4, modern combat 4 all work really well, I play a lot of games so yes its a really good rom man go for it, I just moved yesterday to it
I am with the same dilemma.
And about camera quality? Dialer and contacs?
That's what I think sense has some advantages.
I am considering Sense rom + rom cleaner + nova launcher.

Sense ROM can make use of the hox image chip where as aosp/aokp can't hence the lower image quality.
I've been using CyanogenMod on my phone for a few days now and the camera isn't much worse but you definitely see it when you use the flash.
I'm currently using MX camera just for the cool effects I have a DSLR camera so I don't use my phone for photographs only a quick snap for Facebook or something.
They rest how ever is totally bug free

@ op you should test for yourself and all that depends on what you need from your device as example when I need mhl I revert to sense and when I really need my camera I do it also but with the recent changes in the camera in cm and Aokp the camera now is way better very near to sense... So aging you should decide for yourself...

Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yep this is a dilemma, I use my camera phone quite a lot and definitely appreciate the extra quality but then again I recently started to use CameraZoom so does that mean it is not utilizing the HOX image chip better? Or is this more low level that any camera app will benefit as long as it is a sense rom?
I'll make a decision after more consideration and reading up on. Additional opinions and comments appreciated.
Try CarbonRom, I've tried CM & ICJ not that there was anything wrong with them but with Carbon you get the best of both customization wise.
Battery life is good, gets me through the day with atleast 4h screen on. And I use it pretty heavily mainly Whatsapp, Twitter, IG, G+ and Flipboard.
Not any noticeable issues so far, no camera problems, I'm not a heavy gamer so cant tell you much there.
.
I tested a few sense roms and CM/AOSP roms. So far I liked the CM based roms the most, I run CM10.1 atm since most of the ported roms don't have the full language support (mixed languages in menus english and german in my case).
