[Q] What is the overall smoothest ROM right now? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After testing several ROM's I'd like to see your opinion about which one is runnig the smoothest - I still stick to robo's HD version right now. And yes I know there isn't THE smoothest rom, I'm just interested in some opinions.

I have to say in terms of hd I found rcmixhf the best but by far the best so far has to be leedroid nice mixture of features and reliability not to mention battery. Miui is the fastest and best non sense very stylish fast and reliable though I'm not a fan of the the way the apps are stored.

I have tested almost every major rom.
I have decided to stick with Cyanogen
Now switched to Miui .29 ....lolzzzz

I think it would be auraxTsense 7.9 for me followed closely by AlexV1.7. I never had much luck with ASOP rom on the desire.

Have to say leedroid 2.2e is as fast and smooth as you can get it, OD is still favourite thought.

I've allways had a softspot for Cyanogen roms, alltho I'm way to much in love with the Sense UI. After all Sense roms I've tried I've become very impressed with Pays roms. He's not updating like crazy and all updates are as steady and smooth as can be, imo.
Only backside with all Sense roms is that noone has implemented the BlueZ bluetooth stack. I want to be able to use my Wiimote, damn it!

Leedroid vs Autaxsense

Hey guys been using autax recently love the Rom currently on 8.0,but having problems with the more recent versions , tried downloading leedroid but won't download I'm in the UK and hear leedroid is more British based is that true
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
What does British based even mean?
If you want to download the rom:
Direct link: http://db.tt/JSnpstN
Dropbox folder: http://db.tt/IaHeWx7
You might want to wait because new version is almost ready and if you can it's best to start with a full wipe.
this is just personal prefernce, as i have insatlled both.
for me leedroid wins (ATM)
Sorry as in Apns and for example on Google search it would preference American sites and dollars instead of English and pounds

The APN list is suitable for most common networks all over the world and things like Google search is decided by Google based on your location.

Good to know , could you tell "us" why?!
Hopefully I'll receive my HTC Desire tomorrow, based upon this sheet and your answer I would also opt for Leedroid I guess.
I'm only doubting whether to try one of the Sense HD roms instead... The Sense experience looks very sexy, but I wonder how the speed and stability stack up...
Leedroid is actually the only sense rom i was able to use for a while. Looks like it's the most stable, least bloated and also pretty good battery wise. It was very well supported in the past, but lately the dev bought a DesireHD and he's now mantaining mostly his rom for that device, so don't expect loads of updates anymore.
@ OP - Have you considered giving Neo's alternative Sense based ROM a try? Im currently running ReflexTSenseHD v1.4.1, which is based on the Official Desire HD (FRF91) Sense 2.0 ROM. It seems pretty stable (not had one FC or any other bugs to report) and is a very good ROM in terms of performance - really speedy and smooth.
ReflexTSenseHD v1.4.1 is mega
Leedroid is a very good rom, but i love the custom theme that neo puts in.
it really is down to preferance
I tried the modaco r9 but adfree a while it became dead slow.
I'm now on Aurax T sense 8.0 from neophyte and I have to say it's very fast and stable plus it looks good too.

I would not put it this way. Lee just updated his desire rom and it's once again close to perfection.
I definitely recommend Lee's rom.

I used leedroid and auraxt for quite a while.
auraxt 8 won for me
As far as HD roms go you could do a lot worse than baadnwz imho (very good rom)
but to top it all off i am now a decicated miui fan.
flashing the MIUI AU 12.17 rom in 2 mins. (australian conversion of the fantastic chinese rom)
Has its own dedicated site and a blog site is being done this sunday hopefully.
MIUI is a totally different experience and I love it.

[Q] What is the best daily driver ROM as of 2/12/11?

Okay, so I know there have been similar threads out there, but none of them have been very recent. The Incredible Rom world has been getting a lot of dev support lately with roms being ported from other devices and people simply getting bored and coming over to the incredible.
I'm not new to hacking, flashing ROM's, kernels and etc--though this is my first post here, I've been lurking around for a couple of months now. I've tried Virtuous, Redemption, MIUI, Warm, CyanogenMod and several different kernels. I've found MIUI to be the most polished with the most features and support, Warm was the fastest when I used lou's kernel #8, Redemption came in 2nd with speed, and CyanogenMod was okay--but I probably wont go back. MIUI is my current daily driver, but I will soon be checking out Incredibly Re-Egineered and Liquid Metal--both of which I've heard were excellent daily drivers.
There is no way the average ROM user can really go through every ROM and find the best--but they don't have. With our large community, at least one of us has tried each ROM. So tell me, what ROM's have you used? Which ROM is currently your favorite daily driver and why?
Well if you prefer aosp then CM 6.1 stable (or the CM7 Nightlies which are stable and amazing.) Or CVPS Ruby 2.0.2 which is an excellent source build. If you prefer Sense the I would recommend Redemptionrom 2.3 (2.4 is on the horizon )or SkyRaider both are stable and well supported by their developers and the community. All the above have a good amount of options from kernels to mods/themes. I personally use CM, I have since the G1 oh so very long ago lol. So if you havent given GB CM7 a spin you should check it out with the new 2.6.37 kernel by slayher. I saw you like MIUI...though there's active support Im just not a fan of the apple esque ui...just preference i guess. Hope that helps.
Cheers

The question is whether you want a Sense ROM or AOSP ROM. I prefer Sense ROMs and am currently running Uber Z ROM, which is a port of the new Sense UI. However if you want an AOSP ROM that is still true to Android I would go with CM, but MIUI is a different beast entirely. It's all about personal preference though.
As far as kernels go I also prefer Lou's, but I have had solid performance with #9. However kernels are more specific to the hardware of your phone so just go with what works best for you.
Ive been using incredibly re engineered for a bit aswell as senseless revolution and i love both of them. Theyre great daily drivers and very fast

Try out OMFGB. I've been on it since mid-january.

There are many choices. I look for the dev support and the community using it. If the thread if full of jerk comments, I pass. That being said...
Redemption, Redemptive, Inc-Re-engineered and Magnolia have great support and are customizable. I have had little to no issues with any of these.
There are some great Z-Roms out there as well. I was having issues with the exchange mail interface that was a deal breaker for me. I could not access the Corporate email list with it.
Tried out some new roms.
Great information guys. I personally prefer Sense, however don't mind AOSP roms much either. If it's feature rich, has good dev support, and not overly difficult to use--I can go either way (I just believe sense has a better backbone to work off.)
I think I'm going to try OMFGB and the Uber Z Rom next. I actually went ahead and tried Liquid Metal and Incredibly Re-engineered on today. Liquid Metal was very unique, and though it had some excellent features, it was a little too unique and complicated to navigate around--I just found the UI quite strange.
However, Incredibly Re-engineered I feel is just excellent. It's a lot like Warm 2.2, which I liked quite a bit, and I found it to have much fewer bugs--if any. It may be my new favorite (I personally didn't like the MIUI IPhone feel myself).
Please keep them coming guys.
I think ive tried ever rom. I love cm7 and with weather toggle widgets it looks like sense. Support is awesome! I enjoy the z roms although they dont enjoy me. The mytouch 4g rom was the fastest ive ever seen, but its got a few issues. Just remember, all roms have their own little quirks, its all about what you can live with. Personally for me and what i use, cm7 is the most stable rom ive ever used. All the roms are great, i take my hat off to the devs, i wish i had their talent.

I find myself always coming back to SkyRaider Sense 3.5 with HeyItsLou's #7 kernel... a very stable combo on my phone. I have run pretty much all of the roms on the first 2 pages of the Dev thread and have much love and thanks to all of the developers for taking time to let the rest of us enjoy the fruits of their labors

I've tried a few ROMs and kernels and I've always gravitated back to Hey It's Lou Redemptive Revolution latest ROM and #9 kernel.

Currently, I use CM6 for the DInc. Until an official stable release of CM7 comes out I'll probably stick with this (mainly b/c I'm lazy). It has a very nice feature set and it seems to be okay on my battery, I can last through the day and it is fine. I used to run a ROM with one of the kernels that focused on battery life. While I got amazing battery life (relatively speaking, as far as that goes for the DInc) sometimes the phone would seem sluggish. So while CM6 isn't the fastest, I think it's a nice compromise.
-shrugs- my two cents
Other than triple Facebook Birthday events in my calendar, Virtuous 3.2.0 still does the trick here.
SenseUI. Virtually completely stock, with all of the normal Root Access goodies, and 100% stable.
Cyanogenmod 6.1 worked great for me. I also had no problem with the nightly (#35). Both using stock cyanogenmod kernels. Ultimate Droid 3.0 just came out and it seems to work great as well.
I personally have been using Embrace Miui (a slightly stripped down , much more polished version than original build) with invisiblek #28 kernel and have had no problems and great battery life.
So basically my suggestion would be embrace (if you like miui), Cyanogenmod 6.1 (if you want froyo) or UD 3.0 (if you want gingerbread). If you want an aftermarket kernel, I suggest invisiblek (for froyo builds).
+1 for HeyItsLou's Redemtive rEVOlution rom, Skyraider is great too, althought i haven't had one on since 2.5. Every Gingerbread rom I've tried has gps issues with my phone. Until I can find a good Gingy rom, rEVO rom is what I'm stickin with.
Athena 1.2 and Myn. Great roms.
Incredibly Re-engineered
I have tried most of the roms on xda and just flashed Incredibly Re-Engineered for the first time when the newest version (2.3) came out about a week ago. I have been running it for the entire week now with not a single problem whatsoever. It is lightning fast and has a stock feel to the UI which is what I like. Also, the developer seems great and appears to help literally in anyway he can to fulfill peoples requests for custom made features. I will be sticking with this rom probably as my permanent, of course besides taking new ones for test drives as they come out. Just my 2 cents...
Athena... STABLE, snappy, long battery life, nice customization options and sense(less).
Been waiting for a ROM like this since I got my Dinc.

[Q] Going back to Gingerbread.

I'm finding that the ICS roms have just a tad more quirks/bugs than I'd be able to deal with on a daily (being that the phone is primarily my business line too, lulz!)
I'd like to know what your guys thoughts are on the most active/stable GB roms are for the Vision/G2/Desire Z.
I loved Bulletproof MIUI but it's no longer being actively maintained. Are there any well maintained MIUI roms, or are should I go straight to ILWT?
I am staying away from roms like mexDroidMod because being that I'm in the design/UI business- I could honestly say no matter how well that rom performs, it is an eyesore to look at (nothing personal if you like the way it looks). Keeping that in mind, I'd rather not install that rom and play with theming. Just looking for a good out of the box well featured/stable/snappy GB rom.
Everyone has their own prefrense, mine is also gingerbread for now. I've used 15 to 20 diffrent roms and difrrent versions of a few. The one I keep going back to is elitemod, it hasn't been updated for a few months now but is still my favorite rom. Used 3 or so versions of ilwt and I do like the new aroma installer he uses but I still find I like elitemdod better. If you don't want to try many this is what I recommend but only tial will tell you your preference

I would say ILWT or CM7 for performance and stability. But if you want something that looks a little bit better, you should try to find a good Sense 2 ROM (sorry, i've tried a lot of ROM but none with Sense 2 ).
Latest cyanogen nightly or release candidate.

Anything CyanogenMod based.
Try CM7.2 RC1, it is absolutely amazing once you match .so files with the latest radio, doing that makes the battery life on it be quite ridiculously good. It is super fast and, it gives you heaps of tweaks to choose from. I couldn't recommend any other AOSP ROM right now. Anything CM7 will serve you well . The only issue i had with CM7.2 RC1 was that every now and then, there would be this lag that would start up, which would make the phone feel like it was running at 245mhz. There was an easy way to fix that though, switching the overclocking governor to something else and then back to interactive would fix that lag immediately. Other than that, CM7 is very stable where it is now.
Otherwise, try going with Virtuous Sense 2.0. I was using AOSP ROMs for months, but now that i tried Virtuous Sense 2.0 again, i'm very happy with its speed and stability and the features of Sense 2.1. In addition to that, it is absolutely, 100% stable, with no glitches at all.
Oh and since you're looking for a well maintained MIUI ROM, look at Strawmetal.MI. People seem to love his ROMs and they seem to work very well.
I installed elitemode a few days ago and haven't switched back. This rom is awesome and I'm geting great battery life under heavy use... 10+ hrs. Never happend before. Love it..

Viper or Jellybean?

Until the two come together, which one would you pick for now and why?
I would say viper because it's highly customizable. I have used cm10. It's preety damn fast but you can always install a custom kernel ( faux or nix) to make it buttery smooth.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I used cm10 for a few weeks to test it out, but then realised how much I missed sense's superior camera and sound (with mods of course). Also, sense is what makes the phone unique. Hard choice.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Have to agree with above posts, the Jellybean roms run super smooth and quick, and look nice etc, but the camera is basic.
So if you don't use your camera i would say go with a JB rom, but if you like the features of the Sense camera then stick with Viper for now.
Any sense based rom I quite rely on sense for its camera, better email client, Facebook integration, widgets, and such.
I've tried the jelly bean roms and miui but always come break to sense.
It depends on your usage and such try them both out and find which you prefer to use.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Tried 4.1 for few days, but had to come back to sense. This makes HTC phones unique and there are so many features that lack in CM roms. Also, Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.
I was in rd miui jelly bean for two days and was great, using stock kernel but I think it needs a custom kernel for better battery.
Viperx is amazing. But Now I m on ordroidx, I dont know tomorrow. Love flashing and modding.
Enviado desde mi HTC One X usando XDA Premium HD app
I used Ice Cold Jelly and stick to it since then ^^
I love the stock android feeling since ICS and Jellybean just makes it even better.
I asked myself the same question many times, the pro's for viper being the fact it could be modded to have the least possible sense (which I just find annoying, there is too much of everything...) the battery life and te camera.
But I stay on ICJ, it has great support from both the kernel dev (ncx) and LordClockan which is allways helping. You can't theme Sense suc perfectly back to stock as stock allready is, the AOKP toggles are just awesome for me and having a Nexus 7 I am not having two different panoramas.
Thanks to the ncx kernel it's fast and stable but also with minimal battery drain.
I would tell you to try both, and stick with the one you prefer.
Another point I keep in mind is that I will never again buy from HTC (the S-ON fact and sense of course) So stock is the best way to have the most chances to keep your references... (that's why I searched stock, coming from a Galaxy Nexus).
Good luck !
Said it before, Footballs maximus rom owns. It just works. I used to jump around Ice Cold and allsorts on DHD, always trying to find the perfect rom... i really have nothing to fix on this. Stock kernel too. it just works. Admittedly, some games are VERY slightly juddery, but I have a Nexus 7 too, so I game much less on the One X now. I tried Viper..... Really wasnt for me. Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
yes,the same by me,i like to test rom but mydaily rom is the great viper;its fast shure,Viper is so highly custoimzable and smooth you will not regret not having 4.1 at all.maby one day it comes the version from htc with sense4.? and JellyBean,i love sense sinse i have had this touch diamond2,over the touch hd and the wonderful desire.
Its like religion or ähh politic ore somethink i dont know
Jellybean or Renovate or ARHD....simple as that mate...and if you like to customize then go with MIUI
@ edge3uk
Its like the non-bloat version of bloat.....
thats silly,blödsinn, quatsch, man you boring or what?
For me ..Domination ROM is the best..but battery not good as Sense ROMs and other ROMs
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I used CM10 for few weeks but like few before me have mentioned, battery life is not that great and camera is really awful, so now I'm back on Viper X. JB is nice, smoother and quicker, but for me personally that marginal performance difference is not worth sacrificing battery, camera or stability (and then there are few other nifty little features of sense that I like , such as beats audio profiles, FM radio, weather and clock animations etc).

[Q] As of 2013, what is the fastest and snappiest ROM for the HTC Desire?

I know, typical question, but I haven't been keeping up with roms much for the past year or so. I have an old rooted HTC Desire and I thought I might as well give it some life. My primary concern is speed as the title suggests, I'm looking for the rom that gives the smoothest and snappiest experience possible, that is, the least amount of lag and highest frame rate that one can possibly squeeze out of the device, don't care what version of android it is and what features does it have, as long as it's crazy fast and stable enough to be a daily driver. What I should I be looking into? Cyanogen? Oxygen? some jelly bean rom?
Flashing a rom, partitioning the sd card, customizing it and install all the esential apps takes time, so I would rather do this once instead of trying a few roms and see what sticks, hence the question. Thanks in advance
I would say CM10 is the fastest out there for your Desire. I may not have an actual Desire but the phone I have, the HTC One V is almost identical specs wise to your desire and CM10 blows any ROM I've seen out of the water. Their Trebuchet launcher works hand in hand with project butter and even with my phone's ageing Adreno 205, it is much smoother than my friend's Galaxy S3 running Jellybean Touch wiz.

Well, HTC one v isn't the desire. Cm10 kind of sucks on the desire in terms of speed.
Any GB based ROM should be running smooth and snappy. My personal favorite is Cool Droid V3.
I am using Nikez JB 4.2.2. in my signature. Does the job fine for me!

Hi,
I used Mildwild 5.0 during more than 1 year, and all was smooth, fast, and stable.
Only problem i had was sometimes loosing data when battery low. (ok after reboot but a bit annoying).
Now testing 4.0.4 from Marius.a, quite satisfying even if it's only in English or Chinese (quite smooth), main functions work (a few bugs sometimes but nothing really bad).
The thing is it's the only 4.x with camera recording working fine, and i need this so...
