Broken Nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Two questions
Just dropped my GNex and the battery fell out. Put it back in and turned it on. Everything works.... except the screen. I can hear when I get a text but that's about it. Suggestions?
Secondly, nothing software about this phone is remotely stock. Unlocked bootloader, CM10 etc. If I can't fix the screen will Verizon still replace it? (I have insurance)
Thanks

I think you don't need the screen to flash the stock images.

Maby the screen connector got knocked out of its socket in the crash. IF you're handy you could try to find a dissasembly guide and reconnect it, on your own responsability of course. If there is no external damage and you are completely stock i would turn it in for warrenty.
Edit, oops.. Just read the last part about it beeing flashed and modded

Use the hardware keys ( volume rocker and power button) to restore back to stock and claim warranty

I hate to say this, but if you want your data, the toolkit have a nandroid function, allows you to make and save a nandroid to your PC, then you can flash stock and lock bootloader using fastboot..

Well I went to Verizon and in order to get a new phone I would have to drop umlimited data... not going to happen. My contract is up soooo bye bye Verizon, hello Sprint.

If you buy a unsubsidized phone (pay full price) you will not lose unlimited data.

I'm aware. But I'm not willing to pay full price and the EVO 4G looks promising.

Have you tried "Android screencast", a plug in for Android sdk. We used this on the double rainbow gingerbread for the sgs vibrant.
Screencast let's you see what"should"be on your phone, but on your PC. You can even use your mouse for navigation.

What Would You Do - Semi Bricked Phone?

So I have a phone that windows does not Recognize.
see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458176
I just did a factory reset BUT there is still the BULLET that Show up during the BOOT from Juggernaut V4.1.
I am pretty sure that I can get Tmobile to replaced the phone under warranty (already starting to jump through their hoop and dealing with techs not smarter than my 8 year old).
Everyone here knows that it is not a ROM issue but something that is screwed up on a deep hardware level.
If I send the phone back (after they send me a replacement). What are the chances that they will charge my account full price for for the replacement phone if they check it out and find that it has remnants of a custom rom on it?
OPTION 2.
I just got a text today and they have open enrollment on the Super duper protection plan. I called immediately and added the protection plan to my phone. Heck it is only $7.99 per month. Anyone know what the copay would be for complete replacement say I "accidentally" drove off with the phone on my car roof
I guess I am debating sending back a phone with remnants of a root ($5 for shipping and processing) taking my chances I don't get a charge back vs sucking it up and just going through the warranty program.
Any input is appreciated.
TIA
Hmm, you're talking about this plan right?

Read the fine print. That insurance still goes through Asurion. You may have to pay up to a $250 deductible to get a replacement REFURBISHED device.
Also, they'll check and make sure you had the insurance added within 14 days of owning the handset. All claims will be denied if this isn't the case, and you'll just waste the $8 per month.
Edit - I haven't worked with tmobile for a couple years now...but I'm reading the terms and conditions a bit now and it seems totally the same as it was.
The chances that they'll charge you full price for the phone under a false warranty are EXTREMELY HIGH. I saw it on a load of peoples bills and they freaked every time. Trust me!! Don't try to get a free warranty exchange unless the phone looks exactly like it should. The tech support people inspect the phones like mad when they get them back at the warehouses.
$130 deductible.

Boot into reovery and flash another rom
Oh sorry just read not a rom issues sorry
Yeah I know that it usually has to be purchased within 14 days but they have a special open enrollment right now so I was able to add it. I also found that the copay information.
Your deductible is $130
Your bundle price is $7.99
Your insurance price is $4.79
Your warranty price is $3.99*
Your mobile security price is $3.99
Note: There is a $5.00 service warranty processing fee.
Either way you look at it the phone goes for $450-$500 all day long on ebay so $135 is not a terrible deal.
If that stupid bullet logo was not there I would be set. When I did factory reset it took off Clockwork recovery and without ODIN (ie my computer cant recognize the phone) there is no way to put it back on.
Thanks for your thoughts. I really don't see how they could deny the Protection plan claim but do feel that they could deny the warranty claim.
BLAH I just want a phone that works 100% normal.
Thanks for the info about the phone inspection process. The phone looks pristine but it would be hard to miss that custom boot unless you closed your eyes for 6 seconds while the phone boots.
I am leaning toward the Premium Handset Protection even if it is refurbished it should work better than the one I have.
I am not back on the stock rom and it SUCKS compared to Jag 4.1 - I got spoiled. lol

You try to connect the phone in another computer? If not try that, because I help a friend of mine to flash with Odin. His phone was doing exactly the same as yours, and after changing ports on 2 different computers "BINGO" one of the computers recognized the phone with the Odin program and We were able to go back to stock kernel. Finaly he did a phone replacement for free with T-Mobile. Well he paid $5.00 fee.

Yeah I have no luck on 5 different computers. Tried all ports on all computers and still no luck. The crazy part is that they all used to work. I have installed and reinstalled all samsung drivers with no luck. Thanks for the suggestion but I am sad to say I already tried it with nothing to show for my efforts.
Why don't you download the cwm flashable zips of the stock rom and kernel?

ohh okay, sorry, I didn't realize that was what you meant by factory reset. As in you put it back to stock etc. Because factory reset is also erasing data and not the recovery.
Not sure if Uve destroyed it yet and being as I own an epic 4g touch I'm not too sure of root options but have u had a look at the mobile Odin by chain fire in the market? Might b right up your alley.
Here is what I did to get a new phone. First, add the 7.99 insurance plan on it, then wait a few days to file an insurance claim saying you lost your phone, but before making the claim, take your Sim card out of your existing and put it somewhere. That's a very important step!!!! If you were using that Sim card at the time you make the claim, they would deny it!!! Don't report the old phone stolen, say it was lost do you can try to fix it backup phone, if you report it broken, u have to send it back, if you report out stolen, out well be blacklisted. Hope that helps!!!

[Q] Download Mode Not Working After KP8 Install

I was trying to go back to 2.3.x using ODIN after I installed the KP8 (update for a "leaked" ics) on my phone. Now my computer won't read the phone on download mode. Anyone have a fix for this?
Or do you know if that USB JIG will fix it?
that was not for our phone....malciado....jtag is your only fix

Yea..... GSM + CDMA = your screwed
There is no leak for ICS for our phones yet.
So you flashed the GSM version.
2 options:
Sprint insurance
or
buy a new phone
No one has been successful at jtag, I wouldn't even waste my time.

Look up JTAG on Google. I believe they charge $50 for unbricking service. You'll be out of a phone for awhile, but it's not like the phone is going to do you any good in its current state anyways.

I can vouch that nothing will work. I had someone send me theirs to try and,I installed drivers through Kies, got drivers from XDA, tried a USB jig, hard reset, my SD card with Mobile Odin on it, etc, etc, etc. If when you hold volume up and power and you have the green Android guy holding a box and your phone says I9100, its jtag or nothing. I spent a week (about an hour a day) trying everything. If your phone powers on but you can't connect to wifi or SD card isn't recognized and no network is found, don't even waste your time. I tried because I hoped I could pull it off with the help of some of the great minds from around here but it just wouldn't be recognized by Odin....and it does beep when I plug it into my laptop....so close yet so far

Verizon GN Cracked Screen....Asurion Questions!

So, my lady has the VZW GN. The screen is cracked, dont know how. Not the entire screen though, Just along the top near the power button. As a result, the screen wont power on AT ALL. Luckily, we have insurance through Asurion. Now, the device was rooted. AOKP, custom Kernel, etc. The screen is off, so therefore I cant unroot and unlock. Im trying to decide what is the correct route to go through with Asurion. Should I say the screen is cracked, or should I say it was lost? Anyone have any previous experience with this? Thanks!
Insurance doesn't care about rooted devices. Also, if the screen won't power on, how will they know its rooted anyway? Just get your replacement and send your phone in.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Its an accidental damage request and you're paying a deductible to get it fixed, it doesn't matter if the device is rooted or not.
You could hit the phone with a hammer and pay the deductible and get a new one, they don't care how you broke it or what you've done to the device.
You don't need the screen to come on to restore to stock. Use the tool kit. All you need is for it to go to fastboot (volume button plus power button). Then relock the bootloader via tool kit

Exactly... don't even worry about it. On a side note, when you get your replacement, and if you're not happy with it, give Asurion a call and let them know. Asurion is above and beyond carrier customer service. They will make sure you're satisfied, even if they have to give you a BRAND NEW device including factory warranty.
All is good, just filed my claim. Phone is on the way! Thanks guys.

Rom flash error?

I was flashing the Energy Rom and I received and error when it was trying to install the kernel. I tried again, same thing. Foolishly, I rebooted instead of restoring. Now my phone won't turn on, led is off when plugged in. Looks dead. I plugged into my PC and it finds new hardware (which I think is a good sign), it is referring to my phone as QHSUSB_DLOAD. Also, when I hold the power down it seems to try to reboot as the computer finds the new hardware again. I tried with the volume up, home, and power same response, also volume down, home, and power, same response. My phone was successfully rooted prior to this and running perfectly. I made a nandroid back up prior to flash. Not sure what to do at this point. Please advise!! Thank you all in advance. I am using T-Mobile too.
Looks like I am bricked from what I have been reading. Phone is under 2 weeks old...can I send it back or should I just report it lost at this point and pay $130 and have a new phone in a day?
Called insurance and told them I lost the phone. Hopefully there will be a fix for this in the future and I will have a backup phone that I can sell.
you hardbricked it....lol. Even if a fix comes out carriers are now blacklisting lost&stolen phones.

Edited.
Carriers have been doing that for a long time. Go LOL at your face, dude was asking advice you ****head. Realistically he could have just called T-Mobile and say the device wouldn't turn on, justifying a free warranty exchange.
Hey I actually had the same problem. I bought my phone from Craigslist and didn't know if I could go through T-Mobile for exchanging. I researched this problem for the Galaxy S2 and other Samsung devices, and I read that people sent their devices into Samsung and got it fixed. I decided to do the same; I called Samsung and explained my problem to the rep. She emailed me a UPS label for the phone, and I sent it in. They replaced my phone with a new unit, and it should be back tomorrow.

[Q] Does anyone have any experience with TEP and faulty phones?

I've had my Epic 4G Touch for well over a year and a month ago I noticed the power button was starting to feel "spongy". It still worked but it lacked that crisp feeling when you pressed it down and released it. This afternoon however, after flashing FI27, my power button no longer works whatsoever. I doubt it was the ROM and more due to the amount of times I've held this button down for recovery access, download mode, etc.
So the power button doesn't work, phone starts automatically when I remove the battery and put it back in. Otherwise the phone is in near-perfect condition and its not rooted.
Anyone know if TEP is going to cover this for free? I've looked online at some resources for TEP and everything is vague or above my level of reading between the lines.
Thanks in advance.
I just had this happen to me last week actually. Just plug the charger in and it'll wake up the phone. Set it back to stock unrooted and bring it into Sprint. They'll either try to fix it or give you a new phone. I had a replacement phone that night for $0.
You might have to pull the battery a few times, but you still should be able to get into download mode
Sounds like the internal button is either stuck or broken, if you take it to a repair center they might be able to fix it for you. However idk what cost would be if any, I dont keep any for of "insurance" on my phone, if i break it I swap to one of the others I have til I buy a new one. I tend to keep my phones mint and don't want to pay for a refurbished one when i have a bunch laying in a drawer.

I'm on FI27 w/ the newest AGAT kernel but just in case I used Chainfires' Triangle Away to get rid of the yellow triangle at boot. Outside of volume down + power button I don't know another way to get into download mode and since my power button is inop I'm kind of stuck.
Do you know of another way to get back into download mode? I have the self-extracting Odin file for EL29 just waiting to erase all evidence of root.
EDIT: Nevermind. Turns out the button is just stuck. I put the battery back in while holding volume down and it gave me download mode access. That solves one problem, lol.
If your capable, you can crack it open and clean the internal button. If its just sticky that should fix it. While you're in there you can look for actual damage which will tell you to go ahead and take it in for repair.

I wouldn't even begin to know how to do that, though I'm sure YouTube has a couple videos detailing how-to. I'll give it a looksee and if it doesn't scare me away I'll give it a shot. If its something I can do, might as well.
Does it still work now after booting back up? Mine didn't work but for some reason if i hit volume up+power i could get into download mode. But when it was actually booted, it wouldnt work at all, nor would it work inside CWM. Weird thing is when I took it into Sprint the touchscreen started having issues too. So that's probably another reason why I just got a replacement.

It works fine outside of the power button. I have recovery and download mode access, touchscreen is operable and nothing out of the norm seems to be going on. It's disturbing to say the least.

This power button problem just happened to mine friday i took it to a repair store they were rude and refused to fix it told me i needed to use my insurance... so i made a call and within 15 min and only 1 transfer (shockingly) to customer care they sent me out a replacement at no cost i received this afternoon and currently trying to put a custom rom on it.. i had the same issues as you and it was hardware related a smack against a table resolved it atrandom and that phone was also stock..
I have been with sprint nearly 10 years and with several calls to customer care you can get alot done.. if one rep dont help call back and deal with another.. I have been 4 months past due with nearly an $800 bill at one point and still no restrictions i have also have a few older phones and some windows phones replaced at no charge in the past but that took a little more work then this one...Ive was even able to get them to credit my account $300 instead of using my 2 upgrades on phones... just call be polite if that dont work try again with another rep..
btw the sprint store i took it to didnt note it on my account if they tell you you must goto a store kindly refuse saying you dont have time.. if the battle seems endless ask for a supervisor twice..

Read my comment, i need a replacement as well, by lock/power button isnt working either.
I went to my local Sprint store this afternoon and apparently I don't have TEP on my phone. Last month I had an upgrade but I'm happy with my E4GT so I let my wife use it so she could get the EVO LTE. We did this through Best Buy Mobile. My wife has a friend that works there so it's where *she* does all her cellphone business. For some reason my TEP was cancelled on my E4GT upon upgrade and unbeknownst to me for the last month and a half I've had no insurance. :/
I called Sprint customer support and explained what happened and in 3-business days TEP will be reinstated on my phone, no charge, and all will be well in the world. The guy at the Sprint store also said had I had TEP this issue would be fixed via direct-exchange at no-cost to me.
I also tried fixing it myself but I got scared when the couldn't separate the screen from the case and gave up before I borked it.
