Hey guys,
I have a problem... :'(
I tried flashing (with cwmv5.0.2.6) either JellyBread and marcin's cm7.2 and both failed.
I did everything, I backupped all, i factoryresetted, i cleaned cache and dalvik cache.
I flashed it, it says it's succesful... Then i fixed the permissions.
But when i try to boot it up it is stuck at the JellyBread splashscreen of with cm7.2 the samsung one.
And it does NOTHING ! Well, the first time i tried to flash JellyBread it did create android.secure,
Lost&found and somthing else but that was it.
I can still boot in recovery so it's not hard-bricked or anything...
I tried restoring my nandroid backups: "Can't mount /system!". *OHNOES*
Did I just brick my device?????
I'm so desperate, i need my phone every day... OMG Hope it's not bricked!!!!!!!!
Please help... :'(
DevWithCookies
You need to first wipe everything and then format your file system to ext4. Our gio has rfs file system. Custom Roms require ext4.
First Flash This Recovery
Then Flash This ext-4 formatter
Then flash any ROM
Reply if it worked
no your phone is not bricked
so first wipe /system /data /cache and /sd-ext (but NOT /sdcard) then flash the rom and DON'T set the permission. Reboot your phone and everything should work
btw: you can't restore the backup of a stock-rom because of different file systems...

IT WORKED
deadly46, you saved my day !
I couldn't sleep last night thinking about my bricked (i thought) phone...
I indeed forgot to format it to ext-4.
Thanks dude !

9) Copy all zip files needed for the flash to your sd-card.
10) Flash them.
11) Do a factory reset, clear the dalvic-cache and clear the cache again.

This is a normal doubt which arises in the mind of the users that can they apply any coderom theme in Coderom.v2 or v2b. Many professional users know the answer to this question and also know how to do it. This is for those who dont know.
YES, you can use the same themes in this coderom version too. All you need to do is follow the procedure.
Procedure:
1. Go to recovery.
2. Flash this theme Coderom Default and reboot.
3. Reboot back into recovery after a successful boot (with or without errors).
4. First select 'wipe cache partition'.
5. Go to 'mounts and storage'.
6. Select 'mount /system'.
7. Now apply the theme as you used to do in other ROMS. i.e. flash the zip by choosing that zip etc etc.
8. Reboot.
Note: Remember that whenever you have to reapply your theme in CWM, always mount /system using the procedure before flashing.
The /system gets unmounted after each flashing of zip (as the zip itself has a command to unmount /system).
Click thanks if this helped you
srry but not workin
Well then what is the problem.
It works perfectly for me. Tell me what you actually do as this is working for almost all the users. There no problem in this.

Delete the PC10IMG off of your SDcard....
And you're posting in the wrong section. This is for DEVELOPMENT.
sorry... can i move this?
how can i remove that .zip file, only with an mini sdcard convertor to my laptop?
If you have adb set up then type:
adb reboot recovery
this will reboot your phone into recovery and then you can flash a backup or a new rom to boot up.
hope this helps and good luck!

Could always just boot into your ROM and USB mass storage then remove it. Or take the card out and put it in a PC and delete it.
Or if you have the SDK you can /adb rm <file> . or /adb reboot recovery .
thnx for the fast replys and the feedback!!

After wiping everything you rebooted with nothing in your /system, /boot, /data partitions so how can you expect to see anything except a white screen.
Its not written anywhere in the guide to reboot at the 2nd step.
Delete PC10IMG.zip from your sdcard as suggested above and reboot into recovery via bootloader.
And follow the steps exactly as stated.

Why did you post your question in this thread? - it has NOTHING to do with Android Development!!!
Next time post/ask in the General Questions thread if you have issue like this.
P.S. Run Rom Manager and download/run Virtuous ril Automatcher to fix ril issue.
You better delete or move this thread asap before the ROM Mistress finds this or you will get a nice infraction
sorry for misplacing the thread,
but your suggestions doesnt solve my problem, as soon i match the ril with the latest radio, dataconnection doesnt work anymore
if i goto the APN settings, i get an error about missing sim card
so only an older radio with older ril works
or the latest radio with older ril works also, but not that good...
doesnt mather if i use ril matcher or manual overwrite...
dont use ril matcher for me it just bugs out everything, which is also why the thread was closed..
Make sure you have the right radio for your area. Some areas don't like certain radios. Also, its better to have a T-mobile us radio for the G2 and the Desire Z with the other ones.
When you wipe all data and system, you've wiped the rom off the Phone so expect it NOT to start up to anything but that white screen.
Make sure you always remove the PCIMG w.e folder at all times if youre not a adb user ,to get to the recovery . Common sense, place it in a memory card slot for your computer or some other device and just delete it.
And yeah, you should've posted this in the Q&A section.
Good luck.

Need more info!
Why are you restoring?
Are you restoring same rom thats on it now?
What are you using to restore the rom?
any other info you think might be helpful!!
Sounds like it is unable to mount the data partition, if your using cwm try mounting data partition before trying restore. The partition has to be at least the same size as the original rom you made the backup from, Were you using any a2sd scripts?
etc..
I'm very sorry for not giving you full information, I'm a beginner.
1. Why are you restoring?
I installed cm9 fxp126 and - LT18i_4.1.B.0.431_(1254-2184).ftf, but this has some errors. So I troed to install Complete Xperia S Transformation - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727506, but this could not boot, and reboot continuously.
2. I mounted data at cwm.
3. About "a2sd scripts", I don't understand what it is.

Don't know about the layout for that rom but its always good to format any partitions before attempting a restore. Its a possibility that you have changed the layout in your nand. Try to install the new rom again. Let us know
To restore you're backup you will have to reset the same partition layout on your nand to the way it was before.

Finally looking to try a non-stock ROM. Heard good things about latest CM10 M2.
Current setup: Stock recovery, stock ROM, rooted, I747UCLEM
Steps already done:
1. do a full imei backup
Steps I'm planning on taking this evening:
1. download Rom Manager
2. use Rom Manager to flash CWM Recovery (should I do normal or CWM Touch?)
3. do a nandroid backup (never done one before)
3. download zip of CM10 M2 rom and google apps (where do i put them on the int or ext SD?)
4. boot into recovery, do factory reset/wipe, wipe cache
5. install CM10 from zip
6. ?? do i install google apps as well now, or do i wait til after CM10 is done/rebooted and then go into recovery again?
6. sign into google to get contacts/gmail/etc synced back up
7. anything else? i'm not going to restore from TB, I want to start fresh.

2 up to you i prefer twrp you can get it from goomanager in the play store
3 easy to do in recovery best insurence you can have for a bad flash
3. internal is best
6 i have done it both ways with no problem
7 nope looks like you got the steps right but you do know m2 is a experamental build
#2 do normal unless you want to buy touch, don't think it's free
#3 once in recovery choose backup, it will take a bit, let it finish
#4 put it on your internal and this should be done before you boot into clockworkmod recovery
#5 steps in recovery are: 1 install zip from sd card
2 choose zip from sd card
3 navigate to the zip,
4 install
#6 you can install them right after the ROM
#7 reboot when finished, let phone fully boot THEN
#8 reboot phone, helps settle things a little (you just made a big change to your system lol)
#9 sign into google and let things sync
Troubleshooting, gapps may force close on you a couple times, don't worry, if it happens continuously then reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and reflash just the gapps (they are finicky) If you experience multiple force closes and stuff not working right, boot into recovery and under advanced find fix permissions and let that run.
If all else fails then boot into recovery and do it all over again, coming from stock to aosp your MAY have to flash a couple times to avoid errors while flashing a completely different os(usually not an issue but you never know)
Good Luck
edit--->dang I'm slow tonight lmao

So my nandroid backup just finished, and the folder is only 20MB in size. Is that normal? I guess I expected it to be bigger. I have about 70 apps, all installed to their default location, no music, no photos, no videos, on rooted stock AT&T. I did the backup by booting into CWM Touch Recovery from Rom Manager, going to 'backup and restore', 'backup to external SD card'. Took about 20 minutes to complete, it said completed successfully, and I hit 'go back', then 'reboot system now'. When I moved the backup folder to my pc and checked the size, it only shows as 6 files are 20.9mb.
Files are as follows:
boot.img 10,240kb
cache.ext4.dup 1kb
data.ext4.dup 760kb
nandroid.md5 1kb
recovery.img 10,240kb
system.ext4.dup 228kb
Thanks!
Whoops. Figured it out. The whole blob folder is part of it too. Sorry
Okay, this error have been annoying me the whole day. I have a Xperia SL rooted with .55. Everything was working completely great. Today I just tryied to restore a backup with CWM recovery, and I got this error.
Code:
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
I can't wipe data and I can't install any MOD or ROM properly because of that.
The most strange thing is that I don't even have a ext sd slot. I don't know why I'm getting this error.
I've been searching for fixes and all I got was completely random fixes from people that mostly doesn't even know how did they fix it. Even though, those doesn't work for me.
* I figured out that when I go on FORMAT /DATA, after that, I can wipe data, and I can (re)install the room again without any error. The problem is after I reboot the system, the error comes back, and I need to format /data if I want to install anything again without errors.
Try flash .ftf with flashtool. Wipe all.

why you wanna try to format in PC? if u format (regularly) in PC , it will only format your sdcard (mnt\sdcard). the mmcblk0p12 is the \system partition. u need to somehow format it first, via fastboot, or try via cwm to format \system.
and give more explanation bout the condition of your phone.. ie: rom, kernel, locked/unlocked bootloader.
i too, once, messed up my \data partition (which it's mmcblk0p14). i fixed that by using fastboot

Like i said, it's a. 55 rooted with stock Rom. Boot loader unlock alowed: yes. I tryed every kind of fix in cwm already and nothing works.
Something I never tryed is via fastboot. How do I proceed with that?
Sorry, my android life just started yesterday, I don't have much knowledge
EDIT: Ok I solved. Actually it's not like a fix, it's just like putting a silver tape to handle the problem. For some reason I'm able to advance restore system backup via CWM recovery. Every time that I do that, my CWM recovery is fully functional again, i can install mod, rom, etc. But, when I reboot into system again, the problem comes back, but I can still use my android without any problems, I just can't install anything via CWM recovery. So basically, now, every time that I want to install something in recovery, first I need to advanced restore system, and than install the rom, mod or whatever. Than I backup again in case I want to install anything else in the future, to repeat the same procedure with the last backup.
I was just having some problems when I was trying to restore the system with a md5 missing error... something like that. I solved this problem by just creating a file.txt in the backup folder and than renamed it to nandroid.md5. Magically it was fixed.
