I am using [ROM] [AOSP] MMuzzy's Jelly Bean 4.2 - JOP40C on my Gnex and I am having a problem. I, 3 or 4 times during the day, have to pull my battery because my screen goes to time out and won't come back. I can feel the phones vibrations like when I hold the power to power off but all sounds are null and the screen is blank and I can go nowhere. If anyone else is having this problem I would like to know and if anyone else can fix it same applies. Thank you.
Yes, thank god I'm not the only one. Same exact problem. I wonder if it's an auto brightness issue?
Same here, happened one time.

I was questionable where I should put it because it wasn't going to be a question more of a comment to see if anyone else had the problem. Not having it as bad now since the latest update but it has still happened. I have tried to mess with settings and everything but still same issue. Anyone figure it out?
It happened to me twice today with no way out except pulling battery or rebooting via adb shell. I just turned off auto brightness to see if it helps.

wy dont you try to reflash the rom again and see if it happens again , as if it was not happening on stock , i might be a bug , try to reflash your rom
I have kept the ROM updated and it is still doing it to me every now and then. Not sure if it is just the way it was set up or maybe it is something I am doing. Maybe we should post what we were doing the last time it froze for me I was playing music with play and went to change the song and when I pressed my power button to unlock it wouldn't do it.
It happened to me again today at the worst moment. I was trying to get a pic of my newborn niece and the phone wouldn't come back. Pulled the battery and it did it again.
Again while playing a game on my phone. Screen went blank and wouldn't come back could still hear the game playing.
This is a 4.2 thing. People have been seeing this on the stock Rom also. Don't worry it'll all be figured out soon

Well, sleep of death is when the phone doesn't wake. We're talking about the screen just turning itself off and not coming back on.

I had to re flash the 4.2.1 stock yakju google image to my phone because my bluetooth refused to turn on ever since the 4.2 and then 4.2.1 ota. But I also had this screen problem before and after the re flash. Happens a lot less if I turn off auto brightness which is how I usually had it before with 4.1.2 because auto brightness in jelly bean is generally awful. At best it would randomly change even when there was no change in room light or proximity. Then the other day I was just changing the setting manually from the quick setting and the screen went bright then completely dark. But I followed a suggestion to enable the accessibility service hotkey which helped me power it off without needing a battery pull or adb. I wish google would step up and admit these annoyingly bad 4.2 problems. I never had issues with ICS.
I didn't either. I had no issues with 4.1 but 4.2 and 4.2.1 I have had issues with. Maybe CyanogenMod will be able to fix the problems I always had good luck with it.

Well my evo's screen has been acting up lately, when I power down the screen to sleep, i can still see the unlock screen but its very dim. After about 3-5 seconds it vanishes. Other times when I try an put the screen to sleep, the screen will sleep, but the home,menu.back. and search buttons remain lit. Does anyone know what's wrong with my phone? Any advice please.

Kernel issue with waking.
Let me guess, running CM7...
I'll give you two hints...
1) Wrong section.
2) DETAILS! What kernel? ROM? Hardware version? C'mon, we need the juicy details!
My phone is on stock at the moment as I've only had this phone for a month and a half and still learning about Android. And sorry for it being in the wrong section.

I think we should be over the whole "wrong section" thing already. No one abides by those rules; this is EVO general section and if I had a dollar for every thread created not related to general EVO info I'd be rich. How many stupid threads a day go up about other phones getting GB and links to other pointless non evo related stuff? I'd have to say as long as you stay away from "development" section then ask away. Technically, one could say it belongs in q&a but if that's the case the mods remove all these other stupid threads please.

If your phone is stock and not rooted, take it to sprint and have them warranty it.

Yes it seems to me assuming you are stock, that you got a lemon. Sucks but it should be an easy fix at the Sprint store.
sprint store will just do a hard reset, we've seen several like that; and that should fix the problem if you're on stock evo. you might want to just download the latest RUU and do it yourself
Is it possible to awake my phone by double tap screen, or tap on a specific area?
Thanks in advance
Possibly.
There are apps that utilize the proximity and turn on when you wave your hand...etc....dunno if that's possible though.

Some custom kernels have "touchwake" developed by Ezeekel. This feature turns on the screen by a touch after the screen times out. There is a time period where you set touchwake to be available before the phone goes to sleep.
GLaDOS (by Ezekeel) and CMPlus probably some other kernels have the touchwake feature.

Blowtorch seems to have provided the best solution for the time being but of course AOKP and I assume other Custom ROMs allow you to use the volume rocker to wake as well.

Touchwake is the exact same thing. You can set it to always be on so that you can tap the screen to turn on no matter what.

Hey buddy. I appreciate the service that you do, I really do. And I understand how annoying things like posting in the wrong section can be, especially stuff like this thread. But you don't need to get prissy every time you close or move a thread. Be professional and just state what you're doing with the thread and why. Too many people on this already assume every mod is a ****. Don't perpetuate the stereotype. Once again, thanks for doing what you do. Just do it professionally.

Tough luck man. I really hope you get this issue sorted.
But so that people who might see this thread get the whole picture... you actually flashed a Nexus 7 Kernel on your Galaxy Nexus.
Timur's Nexus 7 kernel is helping a lot of people do things with their N7 that wouldn't be possible otherwise. It's an excelent piece of coding being developed down at Rootzwiki. I'm not leaving any links. If you'd like you can google it... you'll easily find his blog and the main thread.
Cheers :good:

But not just that. You have now also generated a high Google score with my name in it and "dead phone". Thank you very much!

What would be some reasons I get segmentation faults, malformed archive errors, etc when it gets to libwebcore.so, yet I can "make -j8 libwebcore" with a clean output dir and it builds fine.

Jitter issue I'm having, can't seem to get rid of it. Any solutions? This happens all the time when you rest your finger on the screen. Vertical and horizontal. Its as if the screen can't decide where my finger is resting so it moves in a small pixel range. At least that's what I think. I just want a fix. Running utacka pa and lightning zap. Had this issue throughout the last year. Can't fing stand it.

Holy crap yours is pretty bad. I had that happen a few weeks back; only did it when I was charging though. I couldn't even long-press on the home screen to change a wallpaper, it would just start jitter back and forth just enough for it to try to switch pages, but not enough to where it would actually change them. It was so bad that I couldn't even text if it was plugged in. Only thing I could think of at the time was that it was the fact that my digitizer was cracked; but because it went away before I could change the glass, I decided that wasn't it. As far as fixing it... mine did it for about a week and then just randomly quit doing it.
Ya, I can't find anyway to fix this. It has happened as long as I can remember, but not when I first got the phone. I feel like it's something software related, because hardware wise the phone has never had an issue, as far as I can tell/know.
If anyone can help PLEASE!!! do so.
Eternal gratitude is your prize =)
What CM are you on ?
Was running CM10, it happens, the daily builds. Running paranoidandroid Utacka build, still happens. I run Miui port, still happens. No idea =(
Could this be a hardware issue? It's past a year since manufacturer warranty, so i guess im screwed.

Has anyone else received a letter from AT&T regarding tethering while not on a tethering plan? I fired it up once or twice last month for like 10 minutes; received a notification in the mail yesterday telling me that unless I contacted customer service they would automatically change my plan to a 5GB/month tethering plan for like $50. I received a "good stern talking to" and was sent on my way with no plan changes, but if I do it again, they will automatically change it and my unlimited data plan will be gone for good.
I do believe I'll be pushing the "unlimited" part as far as I can again. Time to fire Netflix back up and just let it play for no reason at all. Anyone have any other heavily data-intensive apps to recommend?

You're missing several "somethings". How did you find the answer last time?
maybe i meant to say is there an su.zip or superuser.apk for it...
it's up to you if you want to answer it or keep being anything but helpful. either way, i'll find my answer sooner or later. i know it's a little hard to believe but not everyone eats, sleeps and breathes android dude. the last thing i loaded on my phone was the 4.0.2 OTA update. it's definitely been a while so i really don't remember where i looked.
So I downloaded the factory image and used the flash-all.sh script as instructed by Google. I was running a custom-build 4.2.2 that had some issues, plus I wanted the new radios. Everything worked fine and dandy as expected, but just giving everyone a heads up: upon first boot, when I was setting up my WiFi and inputting my G-Mail credentials, I heard some low-faint music coming from my ear piece. Turning the volume up, I could tell that the phone had auto-dialed that Verizon "activate" number, I guess to refresh what it needed to refresh. It took all of 20-30 seconds and was finished before I was done with the setup. I was worried because I remember people saying not to do this with an LTE device, but it seems to be OK.
This is the first time I can remember or noticed the phone doing this upon returning to a stock state. Don't know if it's new behavior or what.

What battery issues are you referring to? The battery life will be determined by your use. If you have abnormally bad battery life it could be an app with a wake lock or you could just have a bad battery.
