[Q] Tap to wake phone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is it possible to awake my phone by double tap screen, or tap on a specific area?
Thanks in advance

Possibly.
There are apps that utilize the proximity and turn on when you wave your hand...etc....dunno if that's possible though.

Some custom kernels have "touchwake" developed by Ezeekel. This feature turns on the screen by a touch after the screen times out. There is a time period where you set touchwake to be available before the phone goes to sleep.
GLaDOS (by Ezekeel) and CMPlus probably some other kernels have the touchwake feature.

Blowtorch seems to have provided the best solution for the time being but of course AOKP and I assume other Custom ROMs allow you to use the volume rocker to wake as well.

Touchwake is the exact same thing. You can set it to always be on so that you can tap the screen to turn on no matter what.

Hey buddy. I appreciate the service that you do, I really do. And I understand how annoying things like posting in the wrong section can be, especially stuff like this thread. But you don't need to get prissy every time you close or move a thread. Be professional and just state what you're doing with the thread and why. Too many people on this already assume every mod is a ****. Don't perpetuate the stereotype. Once again, thanks for doing what you do. Just do it professionally.

[TIPS] Samsung Galaxy S III: 15 Power User Tips

Hello members,
Every once and a while I come across an interesting article that is worth noting such as the article titled "Samsung Galaxy S III: 15 Power User Tips" over at PC World. There were some well not so known tips and great features that were listed in this article that wowed even me about the Samsung Galaxy III. Dont take my word for it, go over there and become informed. If you know of any other tips that were not posted, please do share the wealth.
Some examples are such as :
Save That Screen Retrieved from this article here:
"Take a screenshot. And another. And another. Taking screenshots with the S III is a snap—all you have to do is swipe the screen with your palm. So go ahead, take some more. And some more. And, well, you get the idea.
Other Android phones don't make it quite as easy. If you're using a phone running Android version 4.0 or later, you have to press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time"
Make the Phone a Flashlight
"Stop digging around your bag in the dark, hunting for your keys.
If you have your S III in hand, you've already got a flashlight. The Assistive Light widget—which you can add to your home screen by going to Apps, selecting the Widgets tab, and choosing Assistive Light—turns the camera's flash into a flashlight when you need it most. Some other Android phones have this widget as well.
Want to add the flashlight feature to your Android phone? Check out Tiny Flashlight + LED, available as a free download in Google Play."
Oh yes, here is a great one that I did not know of......
Wake Up in Style
Let's face it: We all have to get out of bed sometime. And what better way to face your day than to be prepared for all it has to offer.
Using the "Briefing" setting on your Galaxy S III's alarm clock, you can have your phone wake you by reading the time, weather and weather forecast, news headlines, and any appointments you may have lined up. To turn this feature on, go to alarm type in the settings menu and change it to briefing.
Not a Galaxy S III owner? Download WakeVoice from Google Play to get some of these features on your Android phone.
Regards,
A lot of those are pretty obvious now that the phone has been out for a while thanks anyways tho.

I'm confused about the custom EQ it talks about. I have looked everywhere I can think of and can't find the option. The way the article tells you to access it doesn't appear to be there, am I missing something?

That's a pretty sick dream. Maybe it was rude of the guy to post that but you don't even know what kind of a person he is IRL. If it bothers you just take a breath and let it go. Saying something like that feeds trolls and they keep going.
Thank you, OP.

[Q] Blank Screen Time Out 4.2

Since I can't post in the thread because I haven't made 10 post yet I will ask in General and Admins if you fell it needs to be elsewhere feel free to move it.
I am using [ROM] [AOSP] MMuzzy's Jelly Bean 4.2 - JOP40C on my Gnex and I am having a problem. I, 3 or 4 times during the day, have to pull my battery because my screen goes to time out and won't come back. I can feel the phones vibrations like when I hold the power to power off but all sounds are null and the screen is blank and I can go nowhere. If anyone else is having this problem I would like to know and if anyone else can fix it same applies. Thank you.
Yes, thank god I'm not the only one. Same exact problem. I wonder if it's an auto brightness issue?
Same here, happened one time.

I was questionable where I should put it because it wasn't going to be a question more of a comment to see if anyone else had the problem. Not having it as bad now since the latest update but it has still happened. I have tried to mess with settings and everything but still same issue. Anyone figure it out?
It happened to me twice today with no way out except pulling battery or rebooting via adb shell. I just turned off auto brightness to see if it helps.

wy dont you try to reflash the rom again and see if it happens again , as if it was not happening on stock , i might be a bug , try to reflash your rom
I have kept the ROM updated and it is still doing it to me every now and then. Not sure if it is just the way it was set up or maybe it is something I am doing. Maybe we should post what we were doing the last time it froze for me I was playing music with play and went to change the song and when I pressed my power button to unlock it wouldn't do it.
It happened to me again today at the worst moment. I was trying to get a pic of my newborn niece and the phone wouldn't come back. Pulled the battery and it did it again.
Again while playing a game on my phone. Screen went blank and wouldn't come back could still hear the game playing.
This is a 4.2 thing. People have been seeing this on the stock Rom also. Don't worry it'll all be figured out soon

Well, sleep of death is when the phone doesn't wake. We're talking about the screen just turning itself off and not coming back on.

I had to re flash the 4.2.1 stock yakju google image to my phone because my bluetooth refused to turn on ever since the 4.2 and then 4.2.1 ota. But I also had this screen problem before and after the re flash. Happens a lot less if I turn off auto brightness which is how I usually had it before with 4.1.2 because auto brightness in jelly bean is generally awful. At best it would randomly change even when there was no change in room light or proximity. Then the other day I was just changing the setting manually from the quick setting and the screen went bright then completely dark. But I followed a suggestion to enable the accessibility service hotkey which helped me power it off without needing a battery pull or adb. I wish google would step up and admit these annoyingly bad 4.2 problems. I never had issues with ICS.
I didn't either. I had no issues with 4.1 but 4.2 and 4.2.1 I have had issues with. Maybe CyanogenMod will be able to fix the problems I always had good luck with it.
Finally! I dont think im alone here!
Sleep of death, thats it! It happens to me everyday.
I'm trying the auto brightness.

PGM

Does anyone know if there is an App that has the same features as the one in the title?
Thanks.
PGM is one of my favorite apps ever, I hope it comes to the Nexus 4 or another app like it. Not having to worry about a hardware button failure by using PGM gave me great piece of mind on my GNex.
For now I'm running AOKP with the volume keys used to turn the display on(at least gives me 3 power on choices) and I use a long press of the Recents key to turn the screen off set in Rom Control.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=PGM+Nexus+4
It's not available in my country If I could only get it I would write it for it.
Really, developing kernel module is completely different than writing android app. First of all it's in C not in Java, second of all your mistake equals reboot. And second of all it's at least a few days of debugging kernel and tracing it. After that it's just pain in the ***. I am going to get N4 but it will take some time. It's not available to buy in any play store now. I think I will manage to get it in January or maybe a bit later.

Multi window stopped working

I updated the phone to 4.1.2 last week and the multi Window feature was working OK. But today I tried to use it and it doesn't work. I'm no expert at this but I think that long pressing the back button should open the menu on the left side of the screen. Nothing happens... Am I doing something wrong?

1) Yes this thread should have been in the Q&A, which if some reported it, the Moderation Team would of gladly moved it.
2) Why the quick to correct users that may not be as advance of a user than yourself.
Maybe Members did not mean it that way, as it is hard to relay your message on a forum, never the less, being providing in a civil manner is best...Thank You.

[Request] Expanded desktop manager

Hi guys,
I have a simply (?) request for the developers: can you realize a tool for a better management of the expanded desktop mode? I think that, if properly realized it could make much more usefull this option. In particular I was thinking something a background utility that can be enabled and disabled simply with, for example, a three fingers tap on the screen.
I hope someone would like to work on it.
Thank you all
+1. A pinch gesture would be super awesome! I'm not sure this is the right forum though...
Or maybe a different expand desktop. Hide only nav bar, hide only statusbar, hide both. This would be pretty nice.
