[REQUEST] Forum for the Nook HD and Nook HD+ Tablets - About xda-developers.com

I would like to request a forum for the care and feeding of the B&N Nook HD (7") and Nook HD+ (9") Tablets:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/nook-hd-plus-barnes-noble/1110060512
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/nook-hd-barnes-noble/1110060426
Per video below, the Nook HD+ has shown that its bootloader can accommodate a custom boot, and thus would be suitable for development of ROMs. It needs a home, and XDA is the best qualified place to host the effort. Both its predecessors, the Nook Color and Nook Tablet, have their forums on here. Thus I hope that a place can be made for the Nook HD/HD+ as well.
The Nook HD+ is the only tablet with a high-quality 1080p screen and a micro-SD expansion slot. With a custom ROM in place, it can be an alternative to the Nexus 10. Its low $269 price is a major appeal.
[There was a groundswell of Nook HD+ interest in the Nook Color General forum. Unfortunately, most of those threads have been shut down by the resident mod, and HD users are now made into transients looking for a home.]
I realize that this isn't the official "channel" for a new forum request. But I think the Nook HD and HD+ are more than just your typical Android tablet, and deserve to have a few words spoken for it, more than the basic "+1" response. Given XDA's major role in advancing Android development, both the B&N Nook HD and HD+ should have a place here, just as did their predecessors.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

I think this should go here.. *** New Device Forum Requests ***

Please read the post to understand why the request is being posted separately. Thanks.

well, it still a request to new forum for a new device.. so, it goes to same thread i feel,.. thats why i said in my previous post "I think it should"
Also, there are already such threads.. which were addressed this way.. if you care to see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510686&highlight=nook
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336738&highlight=nook
Also you already had such a thread.. why create one more? you could have just bumped the same above thread! Not flaming you.. just suggesting mate.. as i see you are not new..

Sadly, the Nook Tablet is not the same as the Nook HD/HD+, and the aforementioned forums can't be used. Thus the request for the new devices.

Perhaps if you struck the t-word from your first sentence - BN simply calls the new devices the nook HD and nook HD+ and perhaps there's confusion with the tablet from folks not as familiar as we with the various product lines?
If it read "I would like to request a forum for the care and feeding of the B&N Nook HD (7") and Nook HD+ (9") " that might make it clearer?
I have posted in the request thread, but want to second the request here, are as well. The HD/HD+ are currently very open devices, and hopefully we can help keep them open.

Thanks to nitubhaskar's input, I think any confusion between the Nook HD/HD+ and Nook Tablet should be dispelled by now.
I'd like to keep the 'tablet' appellation, if only to highlight the Nooks' significance. There are plenty of phones covered by XDA, but very few for current Android tablets. I think any product that can help chip away at the iPad's dominance should be welcomed.
Hopefully, someone up high can turn on the lights for the Nook HD+ to find its place here. I'm optimistic that will happen, by nook or by crook.

I also would like to request a forum for the Nook HD+. It is a great device that is already rooted and modded to install all google apps.

Please don't close this thread.
here's a +1 for this.
Devine whatever, or, whomever. Pease don't close this thread!! See first post. Thanks.

The best thing to do is to make a post in the New Device Forum Requests thread which has already been linked to and clearly state the reasons why it should have it's own section on here, rather than being bunched together with the other Nook devices.
After doing that, make a post in this thread --> Requests To Moderators And Admins.
In your post in that thread, clearly state that you've already made a post in the relevant thread and that you're posting in the above thread because you've believe it should have its own section rather than being put with others.

At least try to get the name right....
"Divine".. i don't know where people get the extra "e" from.
Anyway, rather than getting into a fight, I will say this: there is a thread dedicated to requests, and nothing about this device is special enough to warrant an extra thread. Should it have a board.. yes. Hopefully those who can will make this happen.

Can i talk to a mod?

Whos a moderator or deals with the organization of the threads? Because i think we need to add an android section to multiple devices, the kaiser the vogue, diamond, touch pro, touch hd. Is there any way to keep noobs from posting stuff in forums that doesnt even relate to whats going on in said thread? Or does someone have to delete the useless stuff like people just posting to tell other people not to post about nothing?

The sub-forums are all there, if someone posts in the wrong section, simply point them in the right direction.
What you have said is the general idea of what happens here.
its not even that people just want to say oh dude i cant wait for android and then some other person will be like thats not important and people just get totally off topic. theres like 1500 post in the form or more and less than a quater are actually information on the development and whats going on... also maybe aswell as having a rom development subsection their could be a linux development section rather than just an android section cause its totally possible to boot debian or some distro of linux on these handsets.
All the moderators have their user names marked in red and have 'Moderator' appear under it (as you have 'Junior Member').
Also you can look here to see which mod you should talk to regarding specific forums.
(This list is mostly a suggestion and may be incomplete, if you can't get an answer from a mod of a specific sub forum, or the sub forum does not have a mod you can contact any moderator)
Please note that if you have a problem with a post or a thread you can use the 'report' button (with the ! sign) to report it and we will take care of it.
Also if you have a suggestion you are welcome to post in the 'About' section.
And to answer your question: there is no way to keep noobs from posting the wrong stuff or in the wrong place. Mistakes are part of being new to something.
If you see a thread you think is just clutter or out of place you can help by reporting it.

New HD2 forum section (why?)

Some weeks ago I suggested the separation of themes and apps in two different forum sections for the HD2 but nothing changed...
Now a new "HD2 Q&A" section opens... what is the difference between this new section and the "HD2 General" section?! People would just be confused...
I really think that the separation between themes and apps is more important than general conversation and Q&A...

The Q&A forums have helped tidy up various forums (mainly android based) where a lot of new users are driven to XDA by the new smart phone devices aimed at general consumers instead of tech users - as was the case in the the good ol' days . People are less and less inclined to search and just post for answers. Despite our best efforts they continue to post so we found it's better to give them someone to ask little questions that don't clutter up the other device sub forums. General is for more general problems, maybe HW, maybe opinions on the phone, complaints with carriers, etc.
I can't recall the discussion on seperate Themes and Apps forums in the moderator area, so I can't comment.
IMHO as the OP said, the app and themes are better in a sub forum. I too think that the Q&A section is confusing (may be it should be a sub forum in general forum?)

Yeah, I can see that the Q&A forums can be useful, but they can be a little confusing at first... but that's just a matter of getting used to it, so now that I start to see it with another eyes I thank you guys for that
Regarding the separate Themes and Apps forum I apologise but I think that I created that discussion somewhere inside the HD2 forums so probably it was missed...
But it is still an ideia An example is that there are a lot of people that don't really care for themes, so it is quite hard to check for new apps for the HD2, and vice-versa, because there's a lot of "movement" in that forum...

I like the way you organized it in the image. Maybe some moderators can take a look and consider this? Or other forum organization that you consider better...

So many devices....

Hey all. Ever notice all these different devices we have here at xda. It's kinda hard to navigate sometimes when I'm looking for devices. Just a thought, maybe we should get them organized by manufacturer or something. It'd make browsing around the forums much easier and reduce a lot of cluster on the forums.
What do you think?
On my Inspire 4G
I think that's a great idea
Try using the search box in the top right corner, saves you all the time in the world.....
Hope that helps..........
Try using "compact view" on the homepage to sort them better
I think it would be better organized if it was more like AndroidForums.com
nice idea...
I agree with the compact view but it still leaves a lot of clutter among the list of devices. Now if it were sorted by the manufacturer it would make the initial forum page much smaller, maybe even only 10-15 sections. Or even for a little reorganization put the devices by the same maker all together instead of a mixed list. Cause the newest devices are at The bottom but are all still mixed among makers. It'd also make new members easier to navigate the forums when looking for their device.

Not sure I understand you. From what I can see on the site, I can search a device by OS or Manufacturer. I have a yellow Drop down menu in the top right side of the site that splits everything by brand or OS.
Rageing you're saying the exact idea I was saying. Just how its sorted by os or mfg but if it was setup like that by default it makes a great first impression for new users and for fast easy searching among the forums
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Categorising them by Manufacturer would make a lot of sense.
This would also help distinguish general forums from the device specific ones.
New to xda-developers? Check This Out!
check out this guide!
and they are sectioned by manufacturer to find captivate you have to go way down to Samsung devices!

I am not very active on this site mainly because my old phone was never given a forum here(Moto Backflip) but wanted to comment anyways because I hope to be more active now that I have a D2G. Anyways in regards to this issue at hand, I am sorry to say but really? I dont mean to sound like a smart.. but you really expect people to read that? Much less for new members to find it..
I think maybe what people mean when they say sorting things by device is like this:
Motorola: Category
-Flipout(forum)
--General(sub-forum)
--Accessories(sub-forum)
--Development(sub-forum)
-Droid 2
--General(sub-forum)
--Accessories(sub-forum)
--Development(sub-forum)
Then if you set the sub-forums not to set on the forum index, this shortens the forum index substantially making it much quicker and easier to find your device. Like I said I am just assuming on that, so if I am wrong, this would be my suggestion on the matter.

How so? If I go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php and then scroll down, I will find HTC devices in-between samsung and motarola ones, etc... that is not what I call 'sectioned by manufacturer'
I am a new user, but this is not so confusing for me.

it was mentioned in my NEW USER GUIDE i told you to go to!
here is one page... look at the bottom wher it says HTC DEVICES.... that would be a list of all HTC devices...
Click "COMPACT VIEW" your wish is granted. ...errr was granted.... long ago...
or you can use the Quick forum jump... also shown below. try it sometime. its the big yellow button that says "Devices by OS
or Manufacutrer" pretty much the exact words you used!. Actually it is VVVV THERE. see it? the "V" arrows point to it!

Why so much of a hustle? I usually search indexes using ctrl+F or whatever is the search function for your browser. [sry, i didn't really read all the posts in the thread, maybe it doesn't even have to do with anything]

Were you not asking whether it was possible to sort them that way? I was actually saying that they have done so with the drop down list at the top of the site

THREAD CONTENT
My motive
My goals
Introduction child-boards
Child boards under my recommendation
My Motive
However XDA is a wonderful community there is still some room for improvement. XDA is great, as so are 'most' of the people around here, but however it's greatness there is still
one thing that does sometimes annoy me, is its organisation..
Let's be honest some people don't know where they should start their thread of where to find stuff, on the other hand most people who do have those problems are mostly plain stupid or are to lazy to search.
Yet I believe, that a little re-organisation will be able to address this matter and makes our lives, as the lives of users, mods or developers a little easier.
Lucky for you guys, I am not the guy that just complains, without constructing or achieving a potential solution.
I already put some hard work in it and I am fully prepared to do even more if necessarily , but before you judge me, please read and see see what I had in mind.
My Goals
Optimizing your User Experience
Creating new Levels of User Potential
Simplifying current structures and its organisations
Smoother, Faster, Clearer and Better
Introducing child-boards
I know it looks plain simple and you can believe I barely made any changes. BUT THAT IS THE KEY! That is my GOAL, keeping things as slim as possible. Still a child board can achieve an immense difference just only in your experience.
Imagine this simple user interface: Where you'll be able find to find a sub-board with ONLY ROM Releases or just everything related to it, so as for kernels.
Still I am perfectly aware that the ANDROID development goes beyond, ROM's and Kernels, YET these 2 elements in my opinion the main reason why people go to XDA, or they create kernels and ROM's or they want to flash them.
~~~ Organisational Problems ~~~
No offense but isn't this a little weird, that so many people voted, where they'd best place their own thread?
Or is still someone able to tell, where I should fit this topic?
Child boards under my recommendation:
Separated Product Model Boards:
Even though people might find it lame, just know flashing the wrong firmware onto your phone, can brick your device,
accidents easily occur and even I noticed I accidently clicked onto the G development without even noticing it after 5 min and however the difference might look minor to some of you.
Why would you put 2 devices in the same area, knowing they require different systems, firmware and work on different hardware, meaning even though they are in the same range, THEY STILL DEFER
General Talk:
NewsThis community has a lot of potential users, that are motivated and willing to uncover the latest and hottest news for their phone or their device and I am fully aware that we do have XDA Tv.
But still I strongly believe this could be a very very useful sub-forum. Moderators or Forum Staff can sticky their posts to announce new rules or competitions
and only selected members will be able to post news concerning their galaxy s2 or their device, to decrease chances of any spam topics.
So why would we miss out on this potential, why wouldn't we publish a story that for example, AGPS, allows you to get a faster GPS lock or people invented a new script to conserve 50% more battery than usual,
does it really harm anyone, that one story wouldn't be that interesting, as this place could offer you, a pool of different stories that might catch your interest.
Nobody is forced to publish something, neither are you to read, you'll only have the Galaxy S2 knowledge library right at your disposal.
Android Developent:
Seperated ROM & Kernel BoardWouldn't it be way easier to find all your ROM releases in one place and ONLY them?
Would we even need updated indexes anymore, when this would all be clear and accessible in one single location,
would we even be bothered to posts polls as where should I put this thread as you might have already seen above?
Wouldn't this make your user experience more simpler finding in two clicks whatever you'd like?
I'd certainly vow for this!
ROM & Kernels Separated, everything else, in the android development thread (Applications, scripts, Tweaks, ...
You shouldn't' be thanking me, it's my privilege I can be part of this community.
I saw a lot of potential around here and I am not much of a scripter, neither am I able to cook mods or roms
But I just wanted to give something back in return
I am just a simple student from Belgium with some crazy ideas
Still I feel honored my contribution will be taken in consideration and if you just require my help
Or you want me to do something, don't even hesitate to ask
I for one, love this new idea. The separated rom and kernel sections are superb, it would be so much easier for users to find what they want. I could spend time writing every little thing down, but im on a short schedule. All in all, I want this
[MINI GUIDE] XDA Features
I am creating this thread to remind new and experienced users of all the features available on the site. Although there are other longer guides telling users how to use the site, I think it is valid that I give tips based on my experience on the site. This is a Mini guide which means that I will only highlight key information about XDA which may or may not have been explored in different threads.
Check Out an Awesome Guide On the Search Function By: T-Macgnolia
As I say in all my guides, suggestions are like gold to me and I just want to make my service better. All reasonable comments are welcome. Please PM me if you have any urgent problems. I am sorry if my service is uninvited. It is also an extension to an earlier guide I posted HERE.
1) The Newsworthy Thread Feature
The newsworthy thread feature, located in the top right of the original post, is designed to give users the opportunity to vote for a thread good enough to be put into the XDA Portal. This feature remains un-noticed for many users. Hopefully, this thread will introduce it to them.
2) The BB Code
XDA has its own unique code that it uses to order text and images. While many new users may find this feature to be a bit old fashioned, Raw and confusing, it is actually critical to the nature of XDA. It gives you the opportunity to manipulate individual items and puts power in the hand of the user. (It also makes you seem a bit more tech-y). Most BB Code will work like this:
[SOMEBBCODEHERE]Crappy stuff[/SOMEBBCODEHERE].
Notice that I use square brackets, there is no space in between the crappy stuff and th brackets and that there is a forward slash on the ending BB code line.
For a full list of the BB code go HERE
3) Editing
Any post that you make can be edited. This is done by simply clicking the EDIT button in the bottom right of that post. But this will just open a quick edit box with limited options. To get all the other options just click here:
Initially, some special new users were a bit stumbled by this idea, assuming that it was a button used to get the advanced version of XDA.
4) The Rules
TheCellsOfMyBrain said:
Rules are what society is made of, without them people would not see themselves as in a society. Rules insure that people who think they are above or exempt from society are contained, such as if you murder someone you are arrested, for the good of society.
Although this is more of a tip, rules are a feature of XDA. Read and respect them. HERE is a Link to them.
5) The Report Button
The report button can be found on the top right of any post. When a user is found flaming (virtual yelling), posting in the wrong place or just breaking any immediate rules, hit that button.
I have spent quite some time typing this review, please do not troll. All suggestions on the other hand are more than welcome. Please hit 'thanks' if you appreciate my massive effort. Sorry if this is not something you wanted. Even though the guide is long, I call it mini because it does not cover everything.
