Hi!
I have a problem regarding swyping.
From time to time, the swype-funtionality stops working and only typing is possible.
The same behavior appears in the new JB-keyboard, so i assume that it is not swype itself.
After a few minutes, the desire gets back on track by itself.
When checking the display with position tracing (developer option) the trace of the finger is complete.
I assume, that it is relatetd to the keyboard driver or something like that .
In not keyboard related apps, sliding finger over the display works like normel, even when syping is not working.
Hopefully i was able to describe myproblem in a proper way
I'm running SPAZEDOG ICS

I've had this too. A reboot seems to cure it.
It's happened to me most often when there's an update to swype available, but maybe not always.
I don't know a proper solution, but be assured it's not just you.
Thanks!
I've installed the old 3.26 version of Swype and will check if the issue is gone now.

I dont know since when this problem persisted but the keyboard on my desire is weird.
Everytime i try to type fast, there's other letter i don't touch appear in the screen as if i touch it. Mostly the letters appear are y, g, and v.
Knowing that, i then did some test. I tried to type fast only using the letters near my left and right thumbs like a/s and l/k and i did it continuously. As the result, i could see the letter g touched itself while i never touched it AT ALL and then it appeared on the screen.
Then i tried the other line by touching q/w and o/p and the letter y appeared just like the letter g.
That also happened with the third line with the letter v.
This happens everytime i use keyboard (messaging, notes, email, etc)
I dont know if the ROM i'm using causes this because I have tried using some ROMs (not all yet but plenty)and the only one I did not experience this is when i'm using Open Desire ROM. But I dont like Open Desire because I want Sense on it.
I also believe the applications did not cause this since this problem appears just after i flash the ROM and havent installed any application yet
Anybody knows why it happens and how to solve the problem?
FYI my Desire is rooted with Unrevoked way and right now using Lambros ROM.
Any reply is appreciated. Thanks.
Edit:
After trying using Open Desire again, it looks like the problem also occurs with it. I also have calibrated the keyboard but the problem's still there.
Still waiting for anyone can help.
Hi!
I have the exact same problem! (I'm using standard Froyo on a non-rooted Desire).
There's something else, when I type faster than usual and the random letters start appearing the backspace key stops working. I can't delete anything at all and the only solution is to retract the keyboard and then bring it up again. If I do that it works perfectly... until it starts acting up again!
My solution? Well.. I tried Swype and it seems to work just fine! Sure, it's WAY different but it's worth it. It just works flawlessly. And if I don't want to swype I can always type normally, it works for that as well and it doesn't malfunction like htc's keyboard.

Thank you very much for the reply and the solution.
Me have the same problem with the backspace either. I will try using swype although i don't use english often for text messaging or else.
Still waiting for other input which might have another solution without installing third party application or add-on.
So does the official froyo cause this? because i haven't had a problem like this when i was using eclair based custom ROM or N1 froyo based custom ROM as i recall
better keyboard is fab !!!!!! and it works very well typing fast .. the swype thing is rubbish , as I cant spell very well...

Well it doesn't matter any application you want to use since that's not the main concern. I'll try Better Keyboard as well. But when I tried to search it in the market with keyword 'better keyboard', I couldn't find it because too many add-ons and the application itself was beneath them. Can anyone help me with it? I can also not find Swype since there's only one application appear when I type 'swype' on the market and it's not Swype
this is beacause desire has no real multitouch.

It's been so long and i finally got the solution after all this time.
My friend told me that this problem is caused by multitouch error and that means hardware problem. He had the same problem but his is HTC Hero.
Then, I tried changing my ROM to MIUI J-Style 10.29 and unexpectedly the problem is gone. From that, I at least can conclude that this is not hardware problem. Anybody having similar problem can try having MIUI for the device's ROM. But maybe some Android-freak dislike it because it has iOS look.
PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS FIX! If you are experiencing any touch screen irregularities, then it IS HARDWARE related. Use the warranty of the phone and either request a new device, or get a different device. Ignore the remainder of this post and the thread.
Sorry if this is very long and boring, but saying it all now saves everyone from saying it later
There is a massive problem that the Z1 suffers from, an erratic touch screen.
Some people have the problem, whilst others don't. I am one of the unlucky owners of a Z1 which has this problem :crying:
People report that the screen registers an input, then shortly losses the input and then regains it, making web browsing difficult as anything you scroll by could be clicked by accident.
I suffer from that and then some. If I use the phone for a prolonged period of time (usually 20 minutes), the screen will register my input at completely different places to where my finger actually is!
This makes normal use almost impossible since you have no control as to where it will register your input.
Oddly enough, locking the phone for a few seconds (just long enough so that the phone falls into deep sleep) then waking it again makes the problem disappear temporarily. It does start doing it again eventually. This happens regardless of phone temperature. This also proves that the issue isn't hardware related, as if it was then it should be doing this all the time, regardless of anything.
Trying to do a clean install fails to fix the issue (at least for me), and even the highly anticipated KitKat update failed to address the issue, despite them claiming that KitKat will fix it (it didn't work for me).
NOW comes the possible solution. Since I know that this could not be a hardware issue, there must be a way to fix it via the software.
I researched a lot and found something that could fix the issue.
I'm saying this now. I don't guarantee that this will fix the problem, but trying won't hurt anyone
I didn't do a nandroid backup (I'm on 4.4.2 = no system mount in recovery), but if you feel uncomfortable with this, then by all means make one
You will need the following:
Root
Terminal Emulator
Any file explorer with root access
External microSD Card
Any stock/stock based Sony ROM (try the fix on other custom ROMS if you want. No harm in trying, cough NANDROID IS YOUR FRIEND )
1: Open up the Terminal Emulator
2: Type in "su" with no inverted commas.
3: Type in the following command: touch /sdcard1/Calibration.ini
There must be a space between "touch" and "/".
If done right, you should get no response (no message at all, just back to "[email protected]:/ #"
4: Enter and after that, shutdown the phone. Whilst it is booting, do not touch the screen. You can safely touch the screen after it is done booting (when you can see the UI). You can also reboot it instead of shutting it down, but I found that a proper shutdown works better (your mileage may very).
5: Goto a file explorer and delete the "Calibration.ini" file. This will prevent the phone from calibrating the screen after every reboot (not needed since it has just been calibrated).
6: All done :highfive:
Now, test the phone properly and see if the problem is gone.
If you have the time and patience, I recommend setting the screen timeout to 30 minutes and using the phone without letting the screen turn off. If it doesn't do anything strange in that time, then you can safely assume that the problem is gone for good :highfive:
Ever since I did this, the problem has ceased to be. It has gone and met its maker
Hopefully you will have the same results
Even if it didn't work, there was no harm in trying
Good luck! :good:
Note: For the app that does the same thing as this method, see post #2
Please link sources where you found all this info? I found threads about three years old using this method on G-Tablet and stuff from back in the day but wonder if it's still actually working.
There's also an APP that calibrates the screen without reboot with reference to above manual fix:

Beware, no idea what it does. If it works or if it ****s your phone up:

Those which you posted are not exactly the ones I discovered.
That would be this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960416
I knew about that app also, but I don't want to risk using it. I think that the manual method is better since it can work on any phone (or at least I think every phone)
That app may only be developed for a specific device and using it on other devices sounds like trouble to me.
Either way, the manual method worked for me. I severely doubted it would work but it did. I tested the phone for at least 1 hour straight without letting the display turn off. Game after game I ran, battery drained by at least 18% and there was not a sign that the screen was going to bugger out again
I even set the screen timeout to 30 minutes just to make sure it won't sleep.
Still no sign of the problem, 5 hours later
I haven't rebooted it yet. I don't know if it will come back once a reboot has happened...
Seems to be working
I did your method and also changed the touch filter level from 2 to 5 as mentioned in another thread. I havent had the issue since, not sure if it was your method or his or a combination of the 2, but really glad its gone. Thanks a million.

The app seems to invoke online calibration. Works fine here and I feel improvement. Of course it could be placebo.

I'm very glad to see that people are having positive results with the terminal method and even the application that was linked earlier
Doubted that the application world work
I have to add this though. After testing a bit more, the problem hasn't come back. However, I did discover that wiping cache and delvik will make the problem come back again with a vengeance. So, I did the fix again and what do you know? Problem is gone again
One last thing. Every time the phone boots up with the Calibration.ini file, you might get different results with regards to calibration. I recommend that once you are contempt with the outcome of the calibration, DELETE THE FILE ASAP!
Also, shutdown the phone instead of rebooting it
Have fun

Hi folks.
I experience Touchscreen problems while typing.
Fast typing is recognized as swyping and if swyping is deactivated it just drops inputs.
Had the same probs with the Oneplus One as i purchased it shortly after release.
I made a Video of this happening: https://youtu.be/WlvDJAyWLGQ
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
Bye

Firstly, go to display settings and see if Glove mode is switched on. It increases screen sensitivity and might cause this. If it is OFF, switch it ON -> reboot-> test -> switch off -> reboot.
It might make the screen recalibrate itself, since you dont have root and cant initiate a screen calibration, to my knowledge.
Otherwise you might have a faulty touch sensor and your options are either replace the device, or use a glass/polymer protector on top of it and hope it decreases sensitivity
Having similar issue. Randomly(couple times during the day) part of a screen(each time different) stops responding. Rebooting my device helps, but after couple hours issue is back.

Hey people,
my OnePlus 3 loses much energy (up to 3 percent in 5 Minutes) if it’s inside my pocket (!) - especially then if I move at the same time.

Any ideas how to narrow down this issue?

Does it only happen when the screen / fingerprint scanner are against your body? Maybe they are detecting skin through your clothes and constantly trying to do something?

This. I think this is causing the issue. If you are slightly warm/damp/moist (someone reading hates that word ), it will try and scan your leg. My guess is perhaps it's not checking the ambient/proximity sensor to see if it's in the pocket or not.
I had this issue on the OnePlus 2 as well, although not as bad.

Thanks guys!
I'll try to wear the phone outward inside my pocket to see whether the problem still occurs.
Btw, i did some tests via "GSam Battery Monitor" and figured out the main-process which is producing the problem:
It's the "kernel". Does the kernel controls one of the mentioned sensors (ambient/proximity sensor) ?

Just be more wary of the screen being knocked/bumped!
Yeah that handles hardware as far as I know (might also be under other processes if they use it too though)
Alright, thanks for your quick feedback.
I guess i will reset my phone now...
I'm pretty sure it's the fingerprint sensor. Really sad to see that OP3 has this issue too, this started happening to me on OP2 too after the marshmallow update. They made the fingerprint scanner much more sensitive, greatly improving it's speed but this started happening. The workaround is to keep the phone in your pocket screen facing outwards...
I have the same problem. It should be fixable via system update to not activate the fingerprint sensor while the proximity sensor detects something.
Or am i missing something here?
Same issue here
Same issue. It's kind sad that OP can't handle this to prevent waking up using proximity sensor like it happens with duoble tap. I hope that they will release an update soon.
Is there anything in settings called "pocket mode"?? a friend has a THL phone that has pocket mode which stops the phone from doing anything when it detects its in a pocket
Nope, I've searched whole settings and there no option like 'pocket mode'.
same issue and the screen is showing the message "too many attempts. try again later" i can't use my smartwatch because the phone make a call or sent a message it self in my pocket.
I've created an e-mail to support with issue describe. Will update thread while getting reply.
Yes this is a bad bug which OP need to fix asap.
So what's the solution to the problem, finally?

You would think that priority would be given to the proximity sensor. If triggered it would disable the finger print input.
So, sometimes Google smart lock stop working and I need to disable it, reboot device and then enable it again
This is the fix I use https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/smart-lock-not-working.686667/#post-17143976
But it is not permanent, at reboot or randomly, Google smart lock stop working and I need to re-enable it again using that trick.
Someone found a permanent solution for that?

It's really annoying. Mine does it all the time. In some occasions opening an app that uses GPS seems to help it kick in, on others, the options on the smart lock page have gone. At that point the only option, like the OP, is to remove the screen lock all together, reboot, and the reenable it. Rescanning my fingerprint is getting boring...
