All my issues with the Nexus 5X

Hello, i just bought ny Nexus 5X a month ago and i really need some help with some of it's issues:
• Adaptive-Brightness, it's faulty on this phone, coming from an Iphone, where it works perfect, it's really hard to understand how such a simple function has problems working on this phone.
• Notifications, they always come slow, like after a few minutes from when you should normally get them, this is truly unacceptable, because there are times when things need to be done quick and I'm being held back because of this issue. I heard Dose causes this, but ive set it to not interfere with some apps but notifications come in the same, late.
• Facebook Messenger - whenever I open this app, I stay like 3-4 minutes looking at the screen with the contacts for it to load, and it's loading and loading and sometimes I need to restart it, what's up with that?
Anyone else has these problems? If so, please help, maybe it's something wrong with my unit.

-its software issue, download an app about that. its fixed in android N (it would be nice if they fixed it in M too...)
-if you also have the said programs in pc they sometimes interfere. i have noticed that while there is a short delay (2-5s) between pc and phone, sometimes messages take many minutes to arrive. i am not sure what causes that, and i cant remember if it happens both ways :/
-never had such problem, but i have deleted facebook apps anyway. mobile site is fine and you can send messages without messanger anyway. if you use google chrome it even notifies you (also works for firefox in pc but not android)

For the Facebook part, is your internal storage secure? I have been reading up to find out if that's what causes certain apps to load slowly. My wife will not be happy, lol.

Adaptive brightness is PITA on this phone, coming from galaxy S4 and it worked perfectly there.

While I agree that adaptive brightness is slow on the N5x it's still working fine for me. Did you check reportings of your light sensor?
You can fix your notification problem by setting the apps that you need immediate notification from to be excluded from Doze.
Battery > "more" tab top right corner > battery optimisation (not sure of the exact term as I use German android) > show "all apps" > change apps that you want to be excluded from Doze by marking "don't optimise"
Using fb via their mobile webside, so can't comment there.

I did the Doze part, notifications don't change.I really don't get why would they add features that interfere with something so important as notifications.

Screen overlay errors

Hi, Oneplus 3 with 3.1.2 stock OS. Whenever an app tries to set permissions such as at install I get the dialog Screen Overlay Detected and have to go to settings, turn off overlay for network monitor pro, then try again. After that I have to switch network monitor pro overlay back on so I can see the download speeds.
Is this expected? Coming from a Nexus 5 I have never seen this before, if it isn't normal can anyone suggest a remedy? Thanks

Its generally caused by some app you have installed recently. I can say Facebook or Facebook messenger. Remove them and set the permissions again

I haven't got Facebook, no apps installed that weren't already on my Nexus 5 that I moved from. Is there any way I can definitively find out which app could be causing the problem?

Network monitor pro is the problem like you said.
I'm using screen equalizer to 'fix' the OP3 screen and that's also an overlay I need to switch off when I install apps from sdcard.

Just do this...
Reboot into safe mode and enable the permissions required for every app and then boot back into normal mode.
This will fix it...!

Unfortunately not, turned off all screen overlays, rebooted into safe mode, enabled network monitor mini pro and then rebooted into normal mode. When an app wanted to change a permission, listronic wanted access to contacts, I got the screen overlay message again. I had to disable the screen overlay, retry listronic and then reenable screen overlay again.
It's driving me mad! I take it nobody else is getting this, why me when I'm entirely stock?

Had the same bs while using LMT, so I decided to unistall LMT, because those permission bs drived me nuts.

op3 always nagging me about an overlay.....

Very annoying when I need to change a permission setting and it nags me about turning off an overlay. Two apps that cause it for me - rotation control and sidebar. Anyone else seeing this sometimes?

Rebooting the device fixes it for me.

It's very common, usually it happens with filters like twilight or screen dimmer. The only way to change permissions is to temporarily disable those apps and then re-enable them after you're done

Same thing happened to me with Amazon music. Kept putting me in a perpetual loop. You can go into the app permissions and grant them manually.
If it won't let you turn permissions on, then you can reboot your phone into safe mode, enable then, and reboot phone normally.

This has nothing to do with OP3 specifically, it's android (I have had the exact same thing with my previous phone, Xperia Z5 Premium)

The new Android doesn't want apps to approve permissions with out you knowing so they block permissions from being approved while apps that cover screen have that ability. It's a pain in the ass and I wish I could stop it because I use swipe pad. I just turned it off and figure after abt a week I'll have all my daily apps thourughully approved.

If I flash one of the cm13 based roms I never get nags and it also has overlay settings....

I have it with my nexus 5 as well, it's a android 6.X thing, cm13 has just probably disabled that but as far as I know most stock roms has it enabled.

Smart Lock only working sometimes and sometimes its not there at all

After setting up my smart lock I have noticed it not working sometimes. When this happens if I go into security and smart lock after I put in my pin I just have a blank white screen where the smart lock menu should be. But here is the weird thing. I have tried restarting several times and it does not help. But sometimes it just shows back up on its own and starts working again. Then after a while it's gone again. This is driving me crazy! Anyone got a suggestion?

From what I have read it's a Google services problem people have been having recently. Mine started happening last night but was working fine since I had the phone.

I've been seeing the same thing for the past month or so. Sometimes there Smart Lock menu is blank, sometimes some options are there & other options are missing. I'm hoping that Google gets this straightened out.

Does your smart lock also stop working when the menu isn't there ?

Seems to. I notice it mostly in the car. I have set my Bluetooth FM transmitter as trusted device. So when I get into the car, the transmitter connects turning on Android Auto and I'm greeted with the Android Auto home page. When Smart Lock acts up, I have to touch the finger scanner to unlock phone to see Android Auto home page.

My menu comes back every now and then but its either all there or all gone.

I just wish they would fix this bug & be done. I'm hoping Oreo fixed this and the Android Auto text message bug forever.

Just rebooted the phone because phone was not reliably staying connected to WiFi despite strong wifi signal. Rebooted phone, wifi reconnected with no issue. However, all options for Smart Lock have disappeared again.

Nope. No root here. Simply stock. Only had the phone a few weeks. I don't see a need to root.
It's interesting to see this possibly effect rooted / non rooted phones alike. Definitely a bug on Google's side.
Googling this indicates it's a bug that goes back about a year. I never saw it with my Z Play, only the Force 2. But I believe Z Play is 7.0. The Force 2 is 7.1.1.
How long has 7.1.1 been out?

All mine came back too and was working beautifully for about 24 hours. Then gone again,

Ever since I've rooted mine has worked perfectly. Been about 24 hours now.

That's strange. Rooting actually seemed to fixed mine LOL Been about 24 hours and still working.

Don't know how long this will last. But I found out if you go under security> Trust agents and turn off "Smart Lock (Google)" and "Smart Lock (Moto)" Reboot and then go turn them back on everything comes back.

Looking into it on Google groups that seems like the temp fix for a lot of users. Google is supposedly aware of the issue and is working on a fix. It has something to do with their servers. I had this problem with my S8, and Nexus 5X. Not having this problem with my Note 8 and Z2.

Face Unlock bug

Hello,
I have a problem with face unlock, it doesn't work well. After I set it up, it works for 5 minutes, than stops working.
In the lock screen there's no face icon, just the fingerprint, like I've never memorized my face.
Then, if I open again the face unlock menu, and improve my face recognition, it starts again to work, but as written up, just for a couple of minutes.
Running latest Pie stock rom.
Anyone with a similar issue?
