Hey people,
my OnePlus 3 loses much energy (up to 3 percent in 5 Minutes) if it’s inside my pocket (!) - especially then if I move at the same time.
I have already disabled the gesture functions - however, the problem remains.
Actually the problem can only be reproduced in my pockets
- latest Stock-ROM
- no root or other deep system changes
Any ideas how to narrow down this issue?
Best Regards,
Chris

Hahaa ;p
well, smart lock is not active in my phone...
Does it only happen when the screen / fingerprint scanner are against your body? Maybe they are detecting skin through your clothes and constantly trying to do something?

This. I think this is causing the issue. If you are slightly warm/damp/moist (someone reading hates that word ), it will try and scan your leg. My guess is perhaps it's not checking the ambient/proximity sensor to see if it's in the pocket or not.
I had this issue on the OnePlus 2 as well, although not as bad.

Thanks guys!
I'll try to wear the phone outward inside my pocket to see whether the problem still occurs.
Btw, i did some tests via "GSam Battery Monitor" and figured out the main-process which is producing the problem:
It's the "kernel". Does the kernel controls one of the mentioned sensors (ambient/proximity sensor) ?

Just be more wary of the screen being knocked/bumped!
Yeah that handles hardware as far as I know (might also be under other processes if they use it too though)
Alright, thanks for your quick feedback.
I guess i will reset my phone now...
I'm pretty sure it's the fingerprint sensor. Really sad to see that OP3 has this issue too, this started happening to me on OP2 too after the marshmallow update. They made the fingerprint scanner much more sensitive, greatly improving it's speed but this started happening. The workaround is to keep the phone in your pocket screen facing outwards...
I have the same problem. It should be fixable via system update to not activate the fingerprint sensor while the proximity sensor detects something.
Or am i missing something here?
Same issue here
Same issue. It's kind sad that OP can't handle this to prevent waking up using proximity sensor like it happens with duoble tap. I hope that they will release an update soon.
Is there anything in settings called "pocket mode"?? a friend has a THL phone that has pocket mode which stops the phone from doing anything when it detects its in a pocket
Nope, I've searched whole settings and there no option like 'pocket mode'.
same issue and the screen is showing the message "too many attempts. try again later" i can't use my smartwatch because the phone make a call or sent a message it self in my pocket.
I've created an e-mail to support with issue describe. Will update thread while getting reply.
Yes this is a bad bug which OP need to fix asap.
So what's the solution to the problem, finally?

We simply keep the phone face up in our pockets? That seems like a quick fix we shouldn't have to live with...

You would think that priority would be given to the proximity sensor. If triggered it would disable the finger print input.

Out of random, usually when I take it out of my pocket, my OnePlus 3 (Soft Gold) doesn't register that my finger is touching the fingerprint scanner. It doesn't vibrate or anything. It's quite random and dont know why it's doing it. When it doesn't do it, it works perfectly fine. Fast as ever! Has anyone else experienced this issue with their OP3?

And I would say it does it only 5% of the time.
When the proximity sensor is triggered, opt goes into pocket mode which disables the fps. Check if you are covering the proximity sensor

Hi Connor,
i'm experiencing the same issue but it seems to be more like 20 percent of the time, depending on how long I keep it pressed there. Did you figure out what was wrong?
-Bob
The same exact things also happen with my OP3 A3000 Soft Gold, sometimes when I put it in the pocket for a long time (probably around 20-45 minutes), it doesn't instantly recognize my fingerprint anymore.
But it only happened on random occasions and not so often, so I don't' really mind it. My workaround for this is just pressing the power button to light up the screen and put my finger on the fingerprint scanner and it will be unlocked as usual.
BTW, I'm on OOS 4.0.2 and Franco R10 kernel.
Happens to me too, but rarely. When the phone is left untouched for a long time. I have the graphite one.

I too have the same model but it hasn't happened with me ever.
I would suggest you to record several fingerprints of the same finger...
But if the problem persists try factory reset:good:
Actually, I have the same issue. I guess I swipe my finger too quickly sometimes
Maybe it is just me and my device, but since the MM update (the real one, not the beta) my notification LED doesn't work. I have tested it with text messages, emails, missed calls, charger plugged into my computer, charging plugged into a standard charger, and charging plugged into the fast charger... nada on any of them.
Anyone having this issue? If so how have you rectified it? It has been a minute since I first got this thing (got it at launch) and the MM update reset all my settings so maybe there is a setting to turn it back on I am missing?
Help out a brother if you can. Thanks.
OK, so does anyone have any suggestions for an app that might help by letting me manually setup the notification LED?

Actually yes. After I wiped my phone for my wife the notification now works.
Another issue that I recently found the solution to... if your ZF2's proximity sensor has gotten crazy sensitive since the update try cleaning it. Seriously. Especially if you have a tempered glass screen protector. I thought the piece of advice was bogus but I cracked out my lens cleaning spray and cloth and BOOM, the proximity sensor works correctly again.

Thanks! Got the led working again after a factory reset.
By the proximity sensor do you mean the little one next to the selfie camera or the GPS?
After a lot of fixed I've got the ZF2 working fine, except for the "smartlock - safe places" that thing can never work right.

Sorry, I just realized that you had replied.
Yes, the one beside the camera. Many have had an issue where the screen goes black after you start or answer a call, especially after the update. It seems the update made the proximity sensor much more sensitive. Since all decent screen protectors have a small cutout for the proximity sensor it will tend to accumulate dirt and oil from your skin. Wiping it down doesn't seem to get it clean enough for the sensor so you have to get a little more aggressive to clear the problem up. I went months enduring the problem and even set my phone so I could disconnect from calls using the power button and then ended up stumbling over the solution when setting up the phone for my wife when I upgraded to my Axon 7.
No led indicator
Hi i've been experiencing the same issue. After I update my zenfone 2 ZE551ML 4gb/64gb version, I have noticed that the led incator is not working and it is not found in the settings. Also, another issue I have encountered is that quick charging feature is not working sometimes but sometimes it works. I don't know how to fix. I'd be glad if someone could help with a step by step process. Thanks in advance!
I have been using my 3a xl for a couple weeks and very happy overall with the speed and performance. I am having one issue trying to overcome that's very disappointing. I do a lot of of walking with my phone in my pocket. When ever I get a call or notification while my phone is in any of my pockets it will either answer it or because it's moving around it will go thru the menus etc. Even if I don't pull my phone out it will always do this. The pocket dial/proximity programming is not good. If you test the prox sensor by covering it up you can open, unlock, make calls etc. with it covered. I am coming from a LeMax 2 and never ever had a single problem with that phone. It had a setting in there and wouldn't allow you to accidently open, unlock, do anything if the sensor was covered. Does anyone have any workarounds for this or insight. I should be able to carry it in my pocket without it doing this. Thanks for any input.
You must have a detective prox sensor or something else is not working correctly with your phone. When I cover my prox sensor (with my hand or in my pocket) the screen does not come on for notifications, calls, or when I tap to wake.
When I cover prox sensor and unlock phone with fingerprint the screen comes on too. Does yours do that as well?

Yes
I just tested my phone today and my screen does wake for incoming calls even when the prox sensor is covered.
This is very annoying.
It does not wake for notifications.
Very annoying for me as well. I guess it's the software program. With that sensor covered like in your pocket it shouldn't allow that to happen. Thanks for letting me know at least I know my phone isn't defective.
My wife's Moto X4 behaves the same way.
If you want, you can install Xposed and GravityBox, it has an option to use the proximity sensor when deciding to wake the decide (see attached screenshot). It will keep the screen off for incoming calls when the sensor is covered.

I thought Xposed wasn't available for Pie except through some unofficial closed source buggy Magisk extensions. Are you running that? I'm not sure I trust closed source on a rooted phone....

It's all open source now. I have not experienced any bugs, it's working really well for me.
Search the magisk repo for Riru - Exposed. I use the sandhook variant. You can find links to more information in the module description.

Sounds like an annoying bug to me as well.
Google / Pixel has a bug reporting system...
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/6398243/
If we all submit reports, hopefully they'll take notice and the issue will be fixed in an update...
Just submitted a report on the issue. Thanks
Try the gravity screen app & see if it fixes your issues. I use it & the phone doesn't wake in my pocket for text notifications - but I'm not sure how it will respond to phone calls/notifications; it has options for proximity sensor & a "pocket sensor" feature as well.

If we want this bug fixed in future updates, everyone should send in a report, especially with Google, squeeky wheel gets their attention...
Anyone that has a pixel 3a 3axl please submit a report on this issue.
My Pixel 3a ja behaving the same way. Coming from a OnePlus 5 with a splendid pocket mode this phone is really getting on my nerves. I love everything about this phone but the constant pocket answering is really bad. Thinking about stop using it...
I've tried every app in Play named pocket mode but nothing seems to work properly.
I've submitted feedback report a couple times hopefully everyone on here can do the same. Won't get fixed until they update on there end. That's the only bad thing I don't like about this phone so far.
Sent.
FYI - for others looking to do this, you file the report under your phone's Settings/About Phone/"Send feedback about this device"
My biggest issue isn't answering in my pocket, but when it's ringing and I pull it out of my pocket, it will see a swipe down action this rejecting the call... Happens to me at least once a day. I really hope this is fixed in Android 10 next week.

Android 10 didn't fix this. I really hate Google right now.
I keep my current N6 phone in a wallet like case with a front cover. Do you guys think that might help?
So I have a very weird issue and I'll try to explain the best I can;
For some reason, ever since the S10+ I've had issues with Samsung phones, I think its something to do with the proximity sensor that's now under the glass, I'll explain as I'm getting similar and more issues on my S20 Ultra.
So last year when I had an S10+ and when I was on a call, which I mainly use my left ear (I think my right ear is a few db less so I use my left) I would quite frequently seem to activate the menu (top right) and therefore end up pressing things with my ear, unbeknown to me, sometimes I'd add a 2nd person to the call or simply put the other person on hold! This happened a lot and I was close to sending it off for repair even though I used apps to test to ensure the proximity sensor was working correctly but in the end, I sold it and got an OnePlus 7 Pro, which I didn't have an issue with. During my time with the S10+ I noticed that even though I held the earpiece to my ear I could see the screen light up and that's where I think I'd end up pressing the screen accidentally as I've just explained.
Roll on to now where I'm facing similar issues but also I'm finding if I need both of my hands and therefore use my left shoulder to keep my phone against my ear the call disconnects as if I'm hanging up. Now it seems a straightforward resolution which is not to do that but I've never had this issue before and I've tested it out quite a bit when I do this the screen isn't on and my face is nowhere near the end button!! It's really driving me crazy at the moment and annoying my other half who's normally on the phone to me when this happens!!
Anyone got any suggestions or thoughts, does it happen to anyone else or am I just being stupid??
I haven't gone down the route of resetting the phone yet but I'm going to consider it.

I think I've heard somewhere that there is a slight problem with the proximity sensor but that was due to it being ultrasonic rather than infrared. I'm not sure but may be that might be the reason.
hi all,
I have a Mi 10T, Indian version(MIUI Global 12.0.5.0 Stable). I have faced this issue from time to time too.
I did something that helped, I cleaned the LED indicator light hole and ear piece opening, using a bubble gum(please watch a few youtube videos on how to do that and do not get any residue of gum stuck in). Then as said above calibrated the sensor from kernel version settings.
Before the clean up, 6/10 calls I faced this nagging issue. Post clean up, its like 1/10 calls , and mostly that one call is usually whatsapp voice call this happens with and not the google phone app.
hope this helps you guys too.
EDIT : P.S. Are people with stock MIUI dailer/phone and messaging app facing this issue too? Kindly mention your phone's ROM version, I am planning to Install Indonesia version of stock MIUI Rom for my device, to get back Stock MIUI Dialer/Phone and messaging app.
Also, I kind of have a feeling that Google phone and messaging app are not optimised for MIUI ROM and/or this device.

Him I have the very same issue.
Let's admit, Xiaomi note 8 pro is ****.
I've proximity issues and headphone connector issues.
The phone price is great, the quality is not there. Simply it's a big nightmare .
What a big disappoinment.
The issue exists for sure. What a piece of garbage is this phone. :-(
at home the problem appears when I switch the screen to 120hz and disappears at 60hz, it is the 120hz mode that causes concern the infrared sensor does not follow
