I just got my scmexy new Galaxy S III from Bell. Everything works great except email sync. For whatever reason it simply refuses to even fetch the email and as a result there is no notification upon the arrival of a new message. The only time it will show the email is if I open Gmail and manually refresh.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I also from time to time get "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." I don't know if this is a related issue but I can only assume. I normally get that message when I open the browser, but I can force the error by enabling and disabling sync.
I am on a Rooted Stock Rom with no further modifications. Keep in mind this was happening before root.

I've only had my S3 for a couple days now and have this same problem. Mobile Data and Packet Data are both on... My APN is the same a what it was with my old S2 which worked fine. Not sure?

Its seems to be something with the sync interval, but I am at a loss on how to chnage it.

It is indeed checked. I must note that all my other services sync fine. Calender, picasa web all that good stuff. It is just Gmail. I seem to be receiving the notifications now but they are severely delayed now.
I'm thinking the problem lies with the Sync Frequency. I know on my i9000 I could set the frequency manually (i.e. 1minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, Sync Off) but I don't seem to be able to locate that menu now.
Turn off Internet sync to get rid of gapps fc issue. Internet sync, syncs bookmarks to stock browser.

I can't figure it out, Gapps is royally farked. I can't send emails in it either and now it is refusing to connect to any Google Services. I have tried on LTE, HSPA, WiFi and (just for kicks) GSM
Here's what I did because Sync uses battery life.
- removed Gmail app.
- opened the stock email app
- entered my gmail credentials in and select manual setup
- leave everything the same but in the server, enter m.google.com
and voila, you'll have push email instead of syncing at different intervals.
Intesting. I completely forgot about Push Email, which would explain the Sync Interval thing. Gmail's app uses push. Since GAPPS isn't connecting properly, I guess I know what my issue is.
Sigh, I hate resets

How does CM9 Work for you?
Any issues?
Nope! none at all! I'm using it with This Kernel and it's awesome!
my wife is using CM9 on her Note and it's super stable..

How is the Battery Life compared to stock?
I couldn't tell you, I bought the phone new, powered it on once for about 10 seconds and rooted / cm9 lol
you can undervolt the CPU to save battery life, there is also a governor that you can set it to so that it reduces batt consumption.
I'd try it, you have nothing to lose.
I've had this gmail issue from time to time. I usually can fix it but going to settings - applications - all - gmail - clear data and clear cache. Give it a shot

I have been wanting to narrow my emails down to a single app. I would prefer the basic email app because the landscape view allows you to view the body of the message without coming out of the inbox. Also you can use the S Pen for signatures and drawing on the email. The Gmail app not only does neither of these but also won't allow me to put my yahoo email on along with my Gmail it says this account already exists on this phone when trying to add even after deleting it from account settings. My problem is the original email app won't push notifications to me and also will not update every 15 minutes I have it set for. I have attached pictures please help if you can it really sucks having to go in the app and pushing check mail/refresh all the time. I work a Job that needs push notifications if not at least update every 5 minutes or so like the setting says.
If your phone is for work then you need to setup your email for activesync. It has push. Set uo your email via activesync instead if pop3 or imap under manual

Thanks for the quick response, I tried to setup the active sync and I had my information already put in so I figured it was all correct however, when I hit connect it said couldn't connect to the server... On a side note couldn't anybody please break down the difference between Pop3 imap and active sync. I always wanted to know this.
And thanks for the help but I also have sync every 15 minutes as you saw as well as notify me when email arrives on both Gmail and this mail app. And to this minute the Gmail app is the only one sending any notifications. I haven't received one yet from the original email app and everyone I go in it at the top it tells you the last time it was updated which is always the last time I clicked refresh. So even when I get active sync working if I can this is still something wrong with that which is bugging me a little bit.
Once you get the activesync working alk will be fine as long as incoming and outgoing setting are correct

Incoming and outgoing settings? Can you walk me through that. Do I need Any other information besides my username and password? If so where do I find this info.
It just says checking incoming server settings followed by could not connect try again. How do you set up active sync
Google it or call thoughtbus. Google "thoughtbus" they can help you

I have 3 gmails setup on my phone but for some reason i can only see the the calendar for one email account only. I have checked the settings calendar sync is active but for some reason other 2 accounts are not showing up.
Let me know if you someone have any advice to solve this issue
Did you check those two additional account settings in the main device settings? (Menu > System Settings > General Tab > Accounts > Google) then click on each Google account and make sure the Calendar box is checked in the Sync settings
If you have already done that and it's still a problem, let me know and we'll troubleshoot some more.
I just realized I was assuming you had checked the sync settings in whatever calendar app you're using, but either way check both system settings and your calendar app settings

I'm running Android 4.2.2 on Samsung GS4 SGH-m919.
I set up an Exchange account using the stock "Email" app. I later deleted that account from the accounts list. Now if I run Email, it starts the "set up email" process, so it acts like the account is gone.
However, I am still seeing regular status messages that say "checking inbox: exchangeserver.com".
I have restarted the phone since deleting the exchange account.
From Application Manager, Email is not shown as a running application.
Why am I still seeing notifications about checking a non-existent account? How can I fully eliminate the remains of the account?
Could wipe data.

Anyone noticing any Active sync issues. Push doesn't seem to be working. I send an email to my exchange email and my s3 gets it and the note 4 doesn't. I have to manually sync the mail app to get the mail. Checked all the settings and have removed and readded account. Still not luck.
EAS is working fine on my Note 4. I've got a peak schedule Mon- Fri and hourly all other times. I did do a factory reset when I got the phone (as I do with every new device) maybe give that a shot?
No problems here
Strange
Did a factory reset and still not luck. The weird thing is that push works for sub folders but not the parent Inbox folder. I have to set the parent inbox to sync every 5 minutes.
Weird thing for me was that I was able to activate my exchange email for school with my note 3 but the note 4 won't accept my school email. Be lucky you even got that far lol. Pretty frustrating that a newer device would have a harder time setting up email.
