I just got my scmexy new Galaxy S III from Bell. Everything works great except email sync. For whatever reason it simply refuses to even fetch the email and as a result there is no notification upon the arrival of a new message. The only time it will show the email is if I open Gmail and manually refresh.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I also from time to time get "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." I don't know if this is a related issue but I can only assume. I normally get that message when I open the browser, but I can force the error by enabling and disabling sync.
I am on a Rooted Stock Rom with no further modifications. Keep in mind this was happening before root.

Its seems to be something with the sync interval, but I am at a loss on how to chnage it.

It is indeed checked. I must note that all my other services sync fine. Calender, picasa web all that good stuff. It is just Gmail. I seem to be receiving the notifications now but they are severely delayed now.
I'm thinking the problem lies with the Sync Frequency. I know on my i9000 I could set the frequency manually (i.e. 1minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, Sync Off) but I don't seem to be able to locate that menu now.
Turn off Internet sync to get rid of gapps fc issue. Internet sync, syncs bookmarks to stock browser.

I can't figure it out, Gapps is royally farked. I can't send emails in it either and now it is refusing to connect to any Google Services. I have tried on LTE, HSPA, WiFi and (just for kicks) GSM
Here's what I did because Sync uses battery life.
- removed Gmail app.
- opened the stock email app
- entered my gmail credentials in and select manual setup
- leave everything the same but in the server, enter m.google.com
and voila, you'll have push email instead of syncing at different intervals.
Intesting. I completely forgot about Push Email, which would explain the Sync Interval thing. Gmail's app uses push. Since GAPPS isn't connecting properly, I guess I know what my issue is.
Sigh, I hate resets

Any issues?
Nope! none at all! I'm using it with This Kernel and it's awesome!
my wife is using CM9 on her Note and it's super stable..

How is the Battery Life compared to stock?
I couldn't tell you, I bought the phone new, powered it on once for about 10 seconds and rooted / cm9 lol
you can undervolt the CPU to save battery life, there is also a governor that you can set it to so that it reduces batt consumption.
I'd try it, you have nothing to lose.
I've had this gmail issue from time to time. I usually can fix it but going to settings - applications - all - gmail - clear data and clear cache. Give it a shot

I just updated to CM7 RC4 and everything is working great. I simply thought I didn't get any g-mails recently. I found out they aren't being pushed. Is this a common problem or is this something that I can fix?
May not be a CM thing per se, my gmail hasn't been pushed as frequently either. Verified by using pc browser and sending myself gmail from another account, it was at least a couple minutes before it got to device, was in pc browser in seconds.

I've been using the CM7 nightlies as my "daily driver" for months now. Never had a problem receiving Gmail. Sometimes the phone will let me know there's a new email a few seconds before I see it come into the web interface on my laptop.
The only suggestion I can offer is to make sure that your sync settings are still setup properly. From your home screen: Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync. Make sure Background Data and Auto-Sync are both checked. Then make sure that your Google account shows up below, click on it, and make sure that "Sync Gmail" is checked
Mine can take up to 30 minutes to push mail, used to be a lot faster. I thought there was a setting for how often GMail checked email but I can't find any. So not sure if it ever existed or if Google removed that option. Also not sure if this is only a CM7 thing or happens with Sense based ROMs too.
edit: this only happens on my linked accounts (hotmail, ISP email, work email). mail sent directly to my gmail account comes in almost as soon as its sent. there is no setting in gmail (web based) that i can find that changes the frequency that it checks the other mail accounts, looks like the default is every 30 minutes.

Interval sync settings are generally removed from apps once they achieve true push functionality, since at that point they are moot.
It's odd that we are experiencing such drastically different things. I don't have any idea why mine come in instantaneously while yours take up to 30 minutes. Very strange indeed.

This only recently started happening as all my mail used to be pushed to my phone a a lot faster. The change happened within the last two months so I think Google changed its policies as to how often they querry the other services for mail.
happens from time to time. go into settings, applications, gmail and clear data / cache. this will fix it.
Note : you will have to go into gmail settings after your inbox syncs and set your settings up again (ringtone, vibrate, etc)

Hi,
Since I upgraded to Jelly Bean, I can't get the stock calendar app to sync with my exchange account... It did work just fine with ICS 4.0.4 stock calendar, as well as with Touchdown. With JB, I have not been able to get it working with stock calendar... but it does work with Touchdown.
Under settings in the calendar stock app, I see the following entries:
- General settings
- my exchange account
- my gmail account
- About Calendar
When I click on the exchange account, it says " no calendar".
I thought it might have been an issue with the way I restored the account from TB. I restarted from scratch, same problem. Did several factory resets, same. Thought it could have been a bad flash, now I have flashed 4.1.1 and still the exact same problem...
I really don't see anymore what can be causing this. It is my only problem with JB which otherwise is just great...
Any suggestion on where the problem could come from?
Thank you.
Ah, strange. I just thought that I'd acticate "automatic push" mode, and guess what, my calendar items showed up in the stock calendar app...
I have always had my exchange account configured to manual (I want to decide when I see my work email) but this never did have an effect on calendar sync... Very strange.
I leave the topic here in case someone would have the same problem...
Thanks for that, been annoying me all day. Works a treat

Thanks for finding that solution. I tried several things last night and couldn't get it working. I was running ICS on my Rezound without that issue but I'm guessing it was due to Sense. I'm not a fan of automatic push but my exchange calendar is important.
two methods.
one: use exchang mail dirctly with out gmail.
then: use a google account and calender is automatically sync after that

I think that activating push was the way for the calendar to start syncing but then I went back to manual only for what I think is the email setting of Exchange account, and I have calendar syncing fine, while emails are fetched only when I explicitly ask. To me the activation of push was only a trigger, that I was able to undo later on...
That worked for me as well.

like others I don't like to have push on. Has anyone turned it off now and have new appointments show up?

My agenda is not syncing all items, strange ... It seems to be depending on the category. Before Jellybean all was fine, but now I am missing appointments from my corporate agenda, really strange. Anybody the same issue ? My phone has always been on push.

I've been helping my Dad with his T-Mobile Galaxy SII on AOKP JB Milestone, he's having the same issue right now with his Exchange Calendar not showing all appointments. Push has always been enabled. However it only shows random items from his Calendar, not all the items. I've wiped the device, reflashed, set up the Exchange account before the Google account, nothing seems to fix it. Only a few items from the Exchange Calendar show up.....
I've been searching on this issue it feels like forever now and your post is the closest I've found to the issue lol
Thanks for this! I was frustrated because the Google Calendar sync doesn't sync everything for some reason, but then I couldn't get the exchange calendar to sync. I switched to push, set up to display the calendar, and switched back to manual sync.
We'll see how it goes.
So I can also confirm the calendar continues to sync after setting sync back to manual.
I got a new calendar entry that synced and also edited another and those changes are also on my phone.
I still have problems to sync my exchange agenda with HTC desire HD, try all the suggestion meantion here.
Somebody a other suggestion.
I have no issues with ICS
Thanks

1) add exchange account, but set sync to "manual"
2) go to Mail and download all your mail ("sync")
3) Go to Calendar and see that you can't add your Exhchange calendar as a possible calendar
4) go back and set your Exchange settings to "push"
5) go back to calendar and see your Exhange calendar has appeared
About a month to a month and a half ago, I developed this problem on my Email(not Gmail) app set up for my Exchange account: mail would occasionally not be pushed automatically and I would have to open the email app to fetch all the emails. There is no pattern that I am able to figure out when this automatic push does not work. Sometimes mail gets pushed and everything works great but at other times i would have gotten 6-7 emails and none would have gotten pushed. Rebooting the phone temporarily fixes this. First I thought this was a server side problem so I downloaded Touchdown(trial version) and had it run on the same account alongside. Touchdown is able to show all emails as they are pushed whereas sometimes the native email app fails to do so. Gmail is also able to push emails to my Gmail app at all times without any problems. Touchdown interface is ok but I actually like the stock email interface a whole lot better. Anything I can do to fix this?
Currently running android 4.2.

This behaviour is new for JB. The stock email app requires sync to be on to actually poll, or even push like it should. Having never been a "syncer", I was fearful of awful battery at first, but this isn't the case. With two email accts on push, and the Gmail app syncing, it doesn't drain battery like you'd think. Just uncheck the elements for each account that you don't want synced.
There are quite a few reports of this on Google Code; the recommendation is to enable sync 9 times out of 10, assuming all the server settings are correct, etc... I turn off sync from 22:00 to 06:00, but other than that, it's on.

I was saying that the answer 9/10 times is enabling sync.
Settings > Data Usage > menu button > Auto-sync data.

Thanks. I checked and it looks like autosync has been enabled on my phone. Hoping there is something else I can do to have my exchange emails pushed.... Wonder what they changed in JB that did this. Is there a way to delete the email.apk for JB and install the email.apk from ICS?
anyone else?
Hi everyone,
I am having problems getting my Gmail to sync with my phone and it's driving me crazy. I can open the Gmail app and refresh manually and I receive emails, but they don't sync automatically. I've spent days trying to fix this, searched the internet and tried all of the suggestions I could find. So, here's what I've done (each of these I have tried several times at least, except for the factory reset which I only did once):
-Rebooted
-Checked that sync is enabled from pull down menu. Toggled off and on
-Checked that Gmail is set to sync under accounts->settings. Toggled off and on
-Checked that Gmail is set to sync in the gmail app. Toggled off and on
-Enabled background data. Toggled off and on
-Checked that Gmail notifications are enabled
-Under notifications settings checked to be notified for every message, then unchecked
-Using different Wifi networks or data connection
-Cleared Gmail cache and data
-Removed and re-added gmail account
-Overriding filters in Gmail, and disabling overriding filters
-Disabling ad blocking
-Factory reset
Sometimes the messages will sync, other times they won't. When I clear Gmail data it might work for a few messages then stop working for no apparent reason. Sometimes they will end up in "Important" mail but not in the inbox (I set up notifications for "Important" mail and that works SOME of the time). On the web the messages always end up in my inbox. On my Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 they always end up in the inbox and I always get the notification immediately, so no problems with either of those devices.
Any other suggestions I can try? I'm willing to try just about anything. Anyone else have this problem or does it work fine for you? My next move is flash cyanogenmod or update to 4.3 (which I really don't want to do since I know there's no going back), that's how frustrating this is. Oh yeah, I'm using the Telus version of the S3 with stock 4.1.2 and rooted with latest TWRP recovery.
Edit: Forgot to mention that when using K9 mail seems to sync fine, but I strongly prefer the default Gmail app to K9.
Uninstall/reinstall GMAIL
Always works for me when I have issues with gmail.
Heeter
Forgot to mention that I did uninstall Gmail and downloaded it again from the market, but that didn't help. I also tried replacing it with older versions of the gmail app but that didn't help either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hello,
I have a note 3 and galaxy gear. After updating to kitkat I have this problem with the phone constantly notifying me of new emails, even though I have already acknowledged the email. Prior to updating, I was able to swipe the new email notification and It would not renotify me until a new email was received, now after about every 15 mins I get a notification to my phone and my gear saying there is a new email even though its the same email as before.
The only way to stop my phone from renotifying me is to delete the email completely. I have ensured that Gmail notifactions are off, and am only using the email samsung app.
This was working fine before but now I am going crazy and not even wearing my watch because it is so damn annoying.

update.
I have removed the gmail account from the 'accounts' area of settings and re added it. I am still getting a notice of new emails every 15 mins (the sync setting) regardless of having a new email or not.
I cannot find anyone else having this issue... and i have 5 email accounts tied to this phone, and only the primary/default account is having this persistent notification issue.
Any ideas?

I checked my gmail settings from a computer, and it shows IMAP and POP enabled.
For some odd reason it appears the issue may have been resolved, and I have not modified anything since again deleting the data/cache.
Should POP be disabled and only IMAP enabled? the phone is set up to utilize IMAP not POP.
