Regarding the backup. You first need to extract the boot. img in that specific backup that you have. If you're using CWM. you can find it in clockworkmod folder > backup > the specified date of your backup creation unless you rename it to other name.
flash that boot img in fastboot just like you want to flash a new rom and go to restore backup and select the respective backup.

I did unroot my phone today and instilled stock ICS 4.0 on it. Still no GPS fix (using GPS test app). Its driving me nuts. Unroot and flashing RUU worked fine. Checked RUU version via fastboot before, so shouldn't be issue there..
I am still on warranty, but it will take up to a MONTH to fix it with no replacement phone. I don't want to open the phone myself too.
Is there any way I can do something from SW standpoint?

if even on stock you can't have gps lock then it is most probably hw problem. I will have to advice you to get it fix as soon as u can since It might take a while as u said a month and it might be difficult though if u don't have a second device to be used.

you might want to check by pressing gently on the left side of your hox near the usb plug area with your fingers and see if you can get a gps lock or not because if I'm not mistaken the position is just on the opposite side of the wifi antenna

It worked! At least now i know that its definitely hw issue, but it has to be presset pretty hard i have to say.
How i could remove such issue myself? Phone is unibody and i don't want to open it due all the warranties thing..
Any suggestions? case probably wont work due low pressure....
You have to open the case yourself. It's a bit tight because all of the double sided tape is placed on the battery and on the top side of the phone so if you really want to just check what is the solution you can try searching for wifi hardware solution. There are videos on YouTube that shows how to fix that. I would assume it is the same for gps
edit : on the side note. Since it is definitely a hw issue. you might be able to get a replacement for it. just try and clarify with them and explain that you've tried pressing gently on the left side similar to checking HTC One X for any wifi hw issues. Because a lot of people who has wifi hw issues got a replacement after sending it back

Hi all, And my apologies if i am posting in the wrong section.
i've been searching for the solution for my problem, and so far i cudnt find one.
My HTC works fine, no screen flickering nothing at all.
what my unique problem is that, as my htc reaches to 80% charge, it starts acting like its in a red area zone. it crashes. I switch it one, and as it loads back to lock screen, it crashes again, and again and damn again , untill i put it on charge.
Initially i thought its a software bug so
i rooted my cell, installed custom rom ARHD 6.0, (didnt touch my kernal)
i was happy with the custom rom, battery got better, device became more smooth. but as it reached to 80%, bang. crashed, and crashed after every restart.
i installed LeeDroid rom and confronted the same problem again.
My uncle bought this from UK and i live in Pakistan, so replacement is out of the equation. I am not sure what should i do, even if i give this for repair, what should i ask for that? battery?
i made a video of this, please help me out.

guys, anyone?
If the phone did it out of the box running stock s/w and no other apps it's h/w. Since you're rooted and have played with multiple ROMs it's hard to tell. If I were you I'd go back to the stock ROM, not load any apps, and see if the phone still has the problem. If it doesn't it's something s/w related that you've done to the phone.

I assume there is no official HTC service center available there (as there is non in Iran) in that case I suggest you do this two things before testing local unauthorized repair centers.
1- Flash the latest franco kernel (I suggest franco cause I've tested it myself, you can also use any other kernel)
2- let the battery charge up to 100% and then go to CWM recovery and wipe battery stat

i was facing this problem when i was on stock. My phone had Vodaphone UK RUU.
i contacted htc, got the following reply
With reference to your query, please kindly update your phone to the latest software version since we have released a recent update which optimizes system performance as well as battery performance.
Meanwhile, you can also follow below steps to set your phone under safe mode for monitoring:
First verify that Fast Boot is not enabled, Settings > Power > Make sure Fast Boot is not selected. To enable safe mode:
1. With the device turned off.
2. Press the power button.
3. Once the device turns press and holds the volume down, once you see the splash screen.
4. Press and hold thevolume down button (DO NOT RELEASE THE VOLUME DOWN).
You will know it has worked because the device will give a brief vibrate or 3 quick vibes. Once it loads you will see on the “Safe Mode” on the bottom left of the screen. This disables all 3rd party apps and drivers from launching. Use the phone normally for 24-48 hours like this. Do not use 3rd party apps or install from the market or the test will be inconclusive.
If the issue will not occur under safe mode, please uninstall the 3rd applications.
Should the problem still persist when your phone is under safe mode, please kindly back up your personal user data and follow below steps to set your phone back to factory default settings:
Settings> Storage> Factory Data Reset".
but this happened on Safe mode too, so i decided to go and get replace by the market guy, but he ..... nvm
After that i switched roms and faced the same issue

You find it in
Home> HTC One X> One X Android development
btw is this possible that my stats are incorrect, reason for asking is that. it shut downs like its out of power. and it takes ages to charge up completely even if its on 86%. I install franco, and now its on charging, it will take almost 2 hours plus to get charge completely.
I will post update after wiping battery state

yes sir i did try that out too,
I flashed the kernel and i charged my battery to 100%
and tried battery stats wipe, still i am having same issue.
Recently, my Play has been having some touchscreen issues. It will work perfectly for almost a day and then proceed to lock up. Screen still turns on with the power button and sliding the gamepad out unlocks the phone but the touchscreen becomes unusable.
Also I've noticed that some kernels are not booting either. Kernels that have worked for me in the past. Even some of the ftf firmware files wont work. The only one I can get working is 2.3.2 and UK generic 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.42). The UK one then prompts me to upgrade to 4.0.2.A.42, which its already running :S
PC Companion says theres a problem updating my phone regardless of what firmware Im running as well and SEUS just closes on me after I click the Xperia Play.
Originally, I thought that this was a damaged digitiser. Now, seeing as Im having all these issues, Im starting to doubt that.
Would a Nandroid of another ROM (one that uses stock kernel i.e 2.3.2 or 2.3.4 from the ftf files I have) be able to correct the dodgy system issues Im having?
Or is my Play dead now?
Any help would be great
Anyone?
I think it would do the trick. As full restore givs ur phone the exact state of ur phone before it was faulty. Same as a pc recovery. Hope that help.

I also had this issue, but mine got progressively worse and the screen stopped responding altogether, and had to take it in and get a new one from Verizon due to hardware failure.
I would suggest doing a full backup (if you haven't already) and flashing your firmware and doing a factory reset...if your still having screen issues then its the phone.

Long story short, Ive had nothing but issues with SE devices. My brothers Play came with a dodgy power button and volume down rocker. My X10Mini touchscreen and system failed 2 months after getting it. Now my Play has died

Hi guys,
I am using a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and am having a lot of trouble with the device constantly crashing and rebooting.
when this first happened these are the steps i took.
i completely wiped the device (factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache partition, format system)
i then flashed Baseband 77 using flashtool
i then flashed fxp149 using flashtool
i then flashed Baseband 77 libs using CWM
i then flashed AOKP JB M1-R1 ROM using CWM
i then flashed gapps using CWM
i the reloaded all apps from the market and not applied any backups and yet it still rebooted all the time.
Since then i have tried using
Fusion 3.8
Fusion 3.9
Fusion 4.0
FXP 148
FXP 150
Stock Kernel inside ROM .zip file.
I have also tried putting it back to Baseband 72 but it made no difference.
None of these make any difference to my issue and yet before i had the issue, I had used all of these kernels except FXP 150 and they all worked fine with no issues at all.
I then decided to go all the way back to stock firmware as it is out of the box.
so I used flashtool and flashed LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2716).ftf
I reloaded my applications and monitored the device only to see that by the next day, the problem had returned.
I am now at the end of my tether and do not know what else i can possibly do to figure out the issue.
the device has not been dropped or damaged in any way so there is no reason for a hardware fault.
i desperately NEED this device to be working as i use it on a daily basis for my business and cannot live with out it.
IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT COULD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP I WOULD BE FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT!!!!!!!
i also have a logcat that i was running in the background when one of the reboots happened
not sure if that can tell anyone anything but i have it if it does
First flash stock kernel (587), after flash the rom compatible with kernel. Remember full wipe before
have you tried not to restore your apps? Maybe one of them causes the problem. I'd try to stick with the clean (stock) rom an check if it still reboots. If it does I guess your device is ready for ebay
Could be a loose battery, try a bit of paper between the battery and the cover and see if that helps.

i have come across something quite interesting.
i had someone look at the logcat i had running live when i had a reboot and it showed that the last thing to function before the reboot was wifi scanning. they suggested i try turning off wifi and running the live logcat again to see if any reboots occured.
it has now been just over 48 hours and i have not had a reboot at all. i know is because my terminal session is still running the live logcat.
is there anyone that could suggest why this may be happening?
i mean, i know its wifi that is causing the problem, but would that be a hardware issue that could be fixed under warranty? or something else?
any suggestions are appreciated as always

i don't think i can help, i just wanna say that i had (have) the same problem. I said had/have because probably I still have the issue, but i don't notice it that often. Before, I had my phone set to ask for pin code, but now I have removed it to avoid being unreachable if a restart occurs. I have raised the issue long time ago, but really didn't find any answer. Other ppl had same problem with their phone (look at the thread i started about this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765537)
I also have HTC desire in daily use with CM7.2, that also reboots quite often. So I don't think the phones are broken. More likely it's kenel or rom or app issue, or some combination of those.
If you can tell me how to monitor things, I can do it on both phones, maybe we will figure out what's going on.

if you open a terminal session and type:
su
cd sdcard
logcat >> logcat.txt
it will create a .txt file and put the live logcat info into it.
you need to leave the terminal running in the background to make sure it continues to update
then when you see a reboot just get the logcat.txt file from the sd card and open it in wordpad or something. (notepad doesnt display properly)
have a look at the last thing that happened before the reboot and see what it tells you
mine had info about wifi scanning and showed that it had seen ssids
next step was to turn wifi off to see if the problem stayed or resolved.
good luck!! id love to hear how it goes
Got a HTC One X second hand from eBay, from the UK. Problem is that it's stuck in airplane mode, which clearly seems to be a software issue. Basically, the previous owner had routed the phone (I know this because Clockworkmod is the recovery) and has installed a stock ROM without re-locking the phone. This is probably what's causing the issue. How can I go about fixing this? Nearly all other solutions point to using a Nandroid backup. Obviously since I didn't do the bootloader changing etc. I don't have a backup. Is there anything I can do without going through the long-winded task of sending it back?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Reboot into bootloader (reboot with volume down, keep it until you get into bootloader). Find your CID and main version (i.e. download "minimal adb and fastboot", get into fastboot mode in your bootloader, type "fastboot.exe getvar all"). Once you have your CID and main version google for "nandroid backup collection htc one x". Download it, put inside clockworkmod/backup on your phone and, since you already have CWM, you can easily recover from downloaded image from recovery.
Lot of threads around if you need more detailed instructions for a particular steps. Good luck!
Go to the nandroid backup section (search it) and download the backup that suits your CID number and restore.

Ive found one the same but surely you could flash a custom kernel then custom rom? And then use it normally?
It is a well documented problem, it can sometimes be fixed quite easily but there are handsets out there that cannot be fixed so easily or not at all. I would have thought that the majority of them being sold on eBay will be the ones that the owners have tried to fix unsuccessfully, and buying them would be a bit of a lottery

have same problem on all different roms (carbon, cyanomode, pacs, miui, etc....)
exactly.what is the problem?software?or hardware?
does anybody test different kernel? I used stock kernel that was downloaded it from Internet.left side of screen disabled.
This does seem to be a Kernel problem; more specifically, the kernel not being compatible with the Rom or your specific hardware variant.. the only thing I can think of is an RUU exactly for your variant will solve all the problems. your phone's warranty is void so you can take it to HTC care (like Yas mobile in IR) so they flash the right RUU for you if you can't find it here. after getting the RUU, you can safely update to 1.58 via OTA to fix any remaining problems becasue it're really stable and bug free
I have the same issue. No one seems to know what it is. i am on the 816x asia single sim. I have tried stock kernal, garak kernal. CM11 CM12 Miui, Carbom. same thing happens. After i get through set up (time frame 5 mins tops) the touch screen stops reacting correctly. IE having to touch things more than once, swiping becomes harder and if i go into the pointer location DEV tool i can see that holding my finger in one spot it sparatically bouces around. Only on the stock rom the touch screen works fine. i have recovery 6.0.5.1 CWM i have tried flashing on TWRP. I am guessing this could be a 816x firmware issue. maybe this touchscreen isnt the same driver as the other htc's or if the source is packing the galaxy ts driver this is reacting to this version of phone. A guess at best.
thanks my friend.I think that it is a software problem, too.(I hope!?)because htc hardware quality is good.
does anybody tell this issue to HTC?

From what I understand, This issue has nothing to do with hTC anymore. They have fixed the touch problem on their latest update (1.58). but if you install custom roms or backups not specifically made for your device, it is possible that you will have incompatible versions of HBoot, Kernel and Rom. this will lead to the situation that even after updating to 1.58 you'll still have the touch problem. now you can do several things to fix it; one is to try and find the suitable backup and after restoing that backup, update via OTA to fix the problem. another one is to install the RUU and then update via OTA. if you can't find the files or find the process diffiicult, you can take it to HTC care and explain that you need the RUU flashed and let them do it.
I've heard that they can even do it over the internet but I haven't tried personally
