HTC One X - Stuck In Airplane Mode - Need Bootloader Advice - HTC One X

Got a HTC One X second hand from eBay, from the UK. Problem is that it's stuck in airplane mode, which clearly seems to be a software issue. Basically, the previous owner had routed the phone (I know this because Clockworkmod is the recovery) and has installed a stock ROM without re-locking the phone. This is probably what's causing the issue. How can I go about fixing this? Nearly all other solutions point to using a Nandroid backup. Obviously since I didn't do the bootloader changing etc. I don't have a backup. Is there anything I can do without going through the long-winded task of sending it back?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Reboot into bootloader (reboot with volume down, keep it until you get into bootloader). Find your CID and main version (i.e. download "minimal adb and fastboot", get into fastboot mode in your bootloader, type "fastboot.exe getvar all"). Once you have your CID and main version google for "nandroid backup collection htc one x". Download it, put inside clockworkmod/backup on your phone and, since you already have CWM, you can easily recover from downloaded image from recovery.
Lot of threads around if you need more detailed instructions for a particular steps. Good luck!

Go to the nandroid backup section (search it) and download the backup that suits your CID number and restore.

Don't do anything, send it back. If you change anything the dates of the changes will be stored and the seller will know.and your refund is gone.

Ive found one the same but surely you could flash a custom kernel then custom rom? And then use it normally?

It is a well documented problem, it can sometimes be fixed quite easily but there are handsets out there that cannot be fixed so easily or not at all. I would have thought that the majority of them being sold on eBay will be the ones that the owners have tried to fix unsuccessfully, and buying them would be a bit of a lottery

well try to reflash rom or something. ... or restore a nandroid backup ... if you made it ..
i guess what you did is moved the app or something that was used at that time... lets say launcher, or theme for it or something like that ...
Thanks for replying but unfortunately i did not make a backup and to make it worse, it was my only stock usa Tmoible rom. I found a custom rom "JikantaruROM_v1.1_Wildfire_S" rom however i am finding issues with it such as NO ROTATION what so ever. Plus i don't like some of the effects.
IF you can give me a link to a stock usa tmobile rom i would very much appreciate it. I have been looking but to no avail.
im afraid that i do not have it either... maybe some of the mates from tmous can make nand and send it to you so you can restore it ;-)

Thanks for the link but i got error 155. THis is very frustrating and i just want my stock rom back. Custom roms are buggy. I currentyl have no "rotation"/"tilt" function on this rom -__-.
No offence but what you just said was basically the same as: "Hey guys, I deleted everything"
Just flash a new ROM

Excuse me but no its not. If you read almost any question posted on this website with people who post simple information less questions like you just quoted, the first reply is always for more information.
You would think that "experienced" people on this forum would know this already

Ummm... If you say so.
What I am trying to say is that if the system looks for internal apps and they are on the SD then it will spaz up and not find them. Therforth they are not there. As if they were deleted.
Please think before posting.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using xda premium
Well that was kind of self explanatory but if it makes you feel better. Why i posted this was to see if someone had a simple fix for it instead of making me using a custom rom. I had no problem with that rom so i wanted it back. Flashing a new rom would obviously fix it.
Download your version of RUU, run it, find rom.zip in >windows< temp folder. Unpack files system.img and boot.img to the folder with fastboot.exe.
Enter hboot->fastboot and execute:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Yet another bricked A100 - Need to restore locked bootloader

So, I'm on vacation last week, watching a movie on my tablet when it starts to become very laggy. After a minute or two, it locks up completely. Just like everyone else, I reboot it to find that it doesn't get any farther that the green Acer logo. I was running CWM recovery, but nothing seems to work... every command gives me an error. After reading this thread by NighPlayer32: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749967 I switch to TWRP recovery and am able to push an update.zip to the internal sdcard, but still can't install it because none of my partitions will mount.
At this point, I've given up on getting this thing to work. I can get into fastboot and recovery, but beyond that I've had no luck and I'm guessing it's fault hardware (EMMC?). It was purchased in December, so it should be under warranty but it has a unlocked bootloader, which will cause some problems if I send it to Acer. Does anyone know of a way to restore it to a stock bootloader via fastboot or recovery? OR... has anyone with missing partitions been able to load an update.zip successfully?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear another one died. We've attempted a few methods but none have so far worked. If you can still push to internal SD you can try to push the a100 boot loader in recovery via adb but you'll lose cwm and fast boot so it will still go back with a custom recovery. There is a stock recovery image around which can also be flashed in recovery via abd which should put it back to normal aside from any custom ROM you may be running. If you're interested I'll try to find the stuff for you and setup some instructions. It'll be tomorrow though I'm about to head to bed.

Thanks! Like I said, I've tried everything to get a ROM to load and all I get is "can't mount" failures, so I'm assuming that it need to go back to Acer. If you could give me any tips to restore it to the stock bootloader, I'd really appreciate it. There was a thread I found that had a link to a LOCKED bootloader restore script, but the link was dead.

emmc is the part of the device where the storage is, everything from recovery, bootloader, system, data, internal sd, etc, are all on this chip, if it's damaged or faulty, you can't use that portion of the the memory. The first sign of it failing generally seems to be laggy, slow running, followed by a freeze. Then you are forced to hard reboot, and then you have problems of any partitions mounting.
@ED209 - I'll see if I have some time to hunt this stuff down, although the script pack that zeronull has for unlocking the bootloader also has the a100 and a revert script to restore the stock locked bootloader. The script may or may not work in recovery as it was meant to run from android, but it should be easy enough to either adapt to recovery, or just manually issue the commands over adb in recovery. The PC side will push the bootloader.blob and the script for the tablet side, then run the script on the tablet which will do the bootloader flash, then reboot, however we don't want it to reboot until you have stock recovery or you get locked out.
I know that flashing update.zip fails due to corrupt or missing partitions, but do you think restoring a backup package might work? I guess I'd need a stock backup image, push it to the internal sdcard and just try to run a restore from TWRP. I have a feeling it won't get any farther than the update.zip, but at this point I'll try anything. Do you remember ever seeming if someone posted a link to a stock restore .img?
Beyond that, is it possible to recreate the partitions through ADB?
Thanks again...

There is parted in custom recovery which would in theory work, but its never been attempted before. I'm supposedly getting a brick sent to me (not 100% if it will happen or not) and it's one of the many things I plan to try.
Flashing and restoring will fail since the partitions can't be accessed.
A restore image will fail for the same reason.
I have tons of ideas but until I get ahold of a brick its all purely theory and speculation and until I'm sitting there looking at it I can't figure out how to do it, its weird I know but I can't just bust out what I want to do, I have to be doing it.....

I suggest you erase all evidence of it being rooted/modded then your warrenty is ok
Do you have a method to check if it is there so i can pretend to wipe everything and brick it, while pretending it wasn't my fault while my warrenty is still here?

A pretend wipe is obvious. And what you just suggested isn't exactly honorable, returning an item as broken when its not. And wiping isn't bricking, during my time making the black hole tools I soft bricked at least 20 times, full out wrecked corrupted effed up partitions, always came back. You can't invoke this brick, you have it or you don't.
As for wiping it clean of mods, that is what we were discussing in this thread already. Its also kinda shady as the warranty expires when you root and again when you unlock, and yet again with the custom recovery and also the custom ROM. However it is a straight hardware failure, an issue Acer knows of. I would suggest calling or maybe chatting on their site, I'm pretty sure another brick victim is getting a replacement even rooted and unlocked.
As for checking, no I don't know of a way. The brick thread had aimed to condense all known information to try to isolate it to any build dates or anything specific, but not enough information was provided to do it. For awhile I thought cm9 was safe, but recently a brick occurred on cm9 as well.
I would advise your next step be to visit the Acer site, try to chat with a rep and ask about the hardware failure and your options with it rooted. You may get the same deal the other user did and just pay shipping.
Tapatalked from my A100 - CM10
I wouldn't send it in under warranty coverage if I felt that the issue was due to improper modifications that I made to the device. I'm typically pretty meticulous about following directions, and I was running the stock ROM. I had unlocked the bootloader and added CWM for back-up purposes (which I never got around to because I needed to make space on my SD card), and the lock-up occurred when I was watching a video clip I recorded that afternoon. Based on the severity of the "brick", I'm fairly certain that it's a hardware issue. I'm hearing people mention $150 repair bills, and I'd hate to pitch this tablet because of a EMMC failure, which appears to be increasingly common on this device.

Misinterpreted what OP was trying to get done, don't mind me.
I had an issue where I was locked out due to ignorantly running the revert to locked bootloader script. Boot verified failed, recovery verified failed. fastboot oem unlock got me back to the toggle between lock and unlock. My apologies, carry on.

Regarding the backup. You first need to extract the boot. img in that specific backup that you have. If you're using CWM. you can find it in clockworkmod folder > backup > the specified date of your backup creation unless you rename it to other name.
flash that boot img in fastboot just like you want to flash a new rom and go to restore backup and select the respective backup.

I did unroot my phone today and instilled stock ICS 4.0 on it. Still no GPS fix (using GPS test app). Its driving me nuts. Unroot and flashing RUU worked fine. Checked RUU version via fastboot before, so shouldn't be issue there..
I am still on warranty, but it will take up to a MONTH to fix it with no replacement phone. I don't want to open the phone myself too.
Is there any way I can do something from SW standpoint?

you might want to check by pressing gently on the left side of your hox near the usb plug area with your fingers and see if you can get a gps lock or not because if I'm not mistaken the position is just on the opposite side of the wifi antenna

It worked! At least now i know that its definitely hw issue, but it has to be presset pretty hard i have to say.
How i could remove such issue myself? Phone is unibody and i don't want to open it due all the warranties thing..
Any suggestions? case probably wont work due low pressure....
You have to open the case yourself. It's a bit tight because all of the double sided tape is placed on the battery and on the top side of the phone so if you really want to just check what is the solution you can try searching for wifi hardware solution. There are videos on YouTube that shows how to fix that. I would assume it is the same for gps
edit : on the side note. Since it is definitely a hw issue. you might be able to get a replacement for it. just try and clarify with them and explain that you've tried pressing gently on the left side similar to checking HTC One X for any wifi hw issues. Because a lot of people who has wifi hw issues got a replacement after sending it back

Hey Matt, I wonder if you can help me out. I flashed the GPE rom, it was working fine until i decided to edit the build prop. I changed the density value from 480 to 320. It worked but it was too tiny. Then i would readjust the value to 400 but upon restart the value wouldnt change. So i tried changing it back to 480 and saved it and directly went to reboot, not my phone refuses to load up. When i hold power and volume up the HTC logo screen comes up and then it turns back off, I cannot get into bootloader by pressing volume down and power. I am stumped. If you can assist me, id be sure to tip you some BTC your way.

I have an issue similar to this.
Phone gets to the HTC powered by android screen and then dies. I cannot access bootloader using vol down and power. It won't respond.
S-Off, unlocked boot loader.
Phone also periodically turns on by itself, then procedes to shut down after it gets to the HTC Powered by android splash screen.
EDIT:
Managed to get into recovery using the advice in this post:

When you plug it into the computer does the computer make a ding sound that it's connected? If so, then press power and volume up until the disconnect ding sound which indicates it's rebooting and then immediately press volume down and see if you can get into fastboot. The timing is tricky so I've found using audio cues from computer can help if the phone is messed up.

copy your custom ROM into a flashdisk. then use USB OTG, search on youtube about the tutorial.

It usually is, I've just got back from holiday and ran up a large phone bill so been trying to sort that out.
People should private message me so that I get the notification email as I thought I was subscribed to this thread yet when I checked just now, there's loads that I hadn't seen.
Sorry!

That's no problem and could happen to all of us. But some pointers from my point of view :
When i look at your O.P you give the tendency to look like a non profit company/organization which indeed offers a free service, that's all fine but please give the users the hint when it will be "offline" when you are on holiday or at least "offline" without a reason to stop the reactions users like me posted before. It looks like a 24 hour service promise which is not there.
I have been a helpful member on the hox section of xda the last 2 years and never had the need of such a thread/service. I think it won't make that major difference because users will always make new threads with their problems anyway.
This is not ment in a bad way, just my personal opinion !
Cheers.

If firewater isn't working for your device, then this service nor any other can help you gain S-Off, like it's been started in many threads already. You'll have to wait until firewater suports your phone.

[Q] Help me in flashing firmware of One M8

hey, guys. I'm new to android. I bought a HTC one M8 used (not totally, it's a phone of a HTC developer I think) yesterday. But it's firmware or android is weird. First I thought it's a clone but it's real. All HTC features are present. But another weird thing was when I updated a new build, a girl named Jennifer showed up like first time on my card & a bunch of contacts saved. In details I found out all of them are HTC developers. So, I think it's a real HTC one M8. It has a demo app which stay open when display sleeps, prevent it from sleeping. Also many settings are locked. Like power saving quick settings, Airplane mode. Also it's in full brightness & both quick setting + main setting is locked. I can see & trap it but don't work. Most of the settings are locked including developer options. It's white & tapping on/off doesn't work. The retailer shop keeper said flashing a new firmware will solve it. But their shop is really far away & I've no ideas on android firmware flashing. I know about Symbian flashing though but that's no use. Please somebody help me. I need a procedure for flashing & link of M8's firmware. My phone is Europe version. & also it'd be nice if you can tell me how can I see or edit my external memory card. Please help. Thanks in advance

Try to do a Factory Reset first; it looks like it's stuck in Demo mode.

Okay. I'll try it out & reply. Thanks
The"ok" in Factory reset is locked too. I'd upload a screenshot but I dunno how to. Please help. I think flashing is only option. But I dunno how to flash or dunno firmware link
You don't know how to take a screenshot? Hold power button and press home button at same time.
Good luck with getting it sorted! Can't you ask the previous owner for help or do you not know them?

Dude, I know how to take screenshots but dunno how to post in XDA. And I thought my phone is used cuz a girl from demo app was set up as user. Then I found out their is a about 700MB zip file with those pictures and stuffs. Whatever, I'm gonna try hard resetting now. Wish me luck
You can factory reset from bootloader or from stock recovery.
To get to bootloader, press and hold power + volume up. Eventually the phone will shut off and the screen will go black. Let go of power and volume up. Press and hold volume down until the bootloader comes up.

I used stock recovery. I'm trying to install TWRP with one click root kit, the developer option is disabled but usb debugging is enabled & HTC One drives are installed. But get token isn't taking my phone to boot loader. if I succeed in installing super su & twrp, tell me how to remove the demo app?

Great news!
solutin
first update its firmware via ota. then flash a custom recovery and a custom rom like skydragon. U r good to go. forget the stock because whenever u will return to stock rom. u will get the demo app again.
