[Q] Reliable method to brick One V - HTC One V

yes you read that right, this may sound strange at first but does anyone know of a reliable way to brick the one V so it goes into qcom dload mode? i have a jtag box and some friends who want s-off but dont want their phones opening up if possible so a non intrusive method of getting into dload mode would be great (ive tried going into bootloader, hit reboot bootloader and holding vol+ along with all the other methods mentioned in the easy to brick thread but still no qcom mode on either phone, one on hboot 1.16 and the other on 1.18) any help appreciated.

No need of booting into bootloader, when you are on the home screen keep pressing power and volume up for 20s.. although it hurts my soul to type this..

uhm~ try throwig ur phone :!

Flash a kernel not for your phone .....
That will **** it up

dont think the kernel will be enough, i think it has to scrap the partitions to default to qcom mode, tried all combos i can do button wise, the damn things just wont brick, guess ill have to crack em open and short the emmc manually

flash a different device k ROM

[DEVS I NEED YOUR HELP] Help me Completly Distroy My Phone

okay heres the deal my phone has been acting up alot... and the other day i swapped batteries and at that my phone refused to do anything past the htc splash screen, ive even ran every ruu file that i could find and to no avail so i am now having to send the phone in for repair, Problem is i have the s-off bootloader from revolutionary and i cant load into the rom to change my mainver and downgrade so
My Question is "is there anything i can do using fastboot commands to either downgrade the bootloader or make the phone a complete brick so that i can get the warranty repair done?"
You can do an OEM boot loader re-lock.
Android, the open source do whatever you want OS.

Well, bricking it would be easy, flash a radio and pull the cord in the middle of it, or just smash it . Check out the return to s-on guide, that might work for you.

[Q] Q: How safe is flashing kernels??

Hey all,
I've come over from a DesireZ where I never had to flash the kernel itself, I simply use CWM to flash different Firmware Roms.. I flashed MIUI,CM9 and varients of ...
Now with the HTC One V, I've discovered that the CM9 Rom/Firmware requires a specific kernel (Titanium Kiss) to work, and considering that the version of TK is prefixed with CM9 Im also guessing that I cant use that kernel with other firmwares (like SuPrimo)...
Reading the CM9 Wiki page on fastboot (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Fastboot) is the following true.
1. As my HTC OneV is S/OFF - engineering SPL & unlocked (via htc), ive discovered that I can use fastboot and flash kernel, cwm or all roms etc.. So if Im right I can totally goof up a kernel flash (ie wrong one) but it doesnt matter because i can always reflash the right one??
2. CWM (Recovery) doesnt use the same kernel as the ROM, it has it own right?
or more importantly, this all sounds like the phone is brick proof... im guessing its not, what should I be careful flashing...
thanks all and hope this is in the right area
I've just found this thread http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/archive/t-1505233.html on another forum and it states you cant brick a phone by flashing, boot, kernels or roms.. or even recoveries as its always possible to go back to "fastboot" or SPL ..
However replacing radios &/or SPLs can brick a phone..
Anyone disagree? if not then thread closed

No these kernels are specifically made for that specific ROMS, there is a high chance u will brick ur phone if u do

hum... that now confuses me, Reading the document at the cyanogenmod wiki, and the other forum, implies that with fastboot you can flash kernel, recovery & roms..
I think fastboot is like your BIOS, and yes v. dangerous to flash, but kernel+rom is just a linux kernel +related filesystems...you can screw it up because you can always use fastboot to flash the right kernel+rom
The documentation also says that you can delete the kernel + recovery to make it easier for kernel developers to develop kernels.. if this were the case then the phone would be bricked?
I do understand though that some kernels dont work with all roms, so yes kernel+rom are related also the doc is generic not specific to the htc one v..
comments?

Last question... Im assuming Fastboot is very low level.. (like BIOS). What tools would one use to flash the "fastboot".. As my phone is now running unlocked SOFF from HTC I dont think I ever need to tinker with the radio or SPL..
Im only asking so that I keep well clear of these tools.. or if I do i'll be extra extra extra extra extra careful.
thanks again

Dont use anything beside fastboot and adb then you are safe
And since only a handful of people have S-OFF on their One V right now you are
wrong here to ask about such things anyway

Thanks there!
mmm Im asssuming I have S-OFF.. I unlocked my phone using the standard HTC "unlock" process. When it now boots it says "This build is for development purposes etc etc etc", from what I understand this means its an "engineering firmware/fastboot" and impllicitly "S-OFF"..... .
I didnt do anything special, just followed the steps from htc..
go into the bootloader at the top it will either say S-ON or S-OFF and by the way i highly doubt your S-OFF just by rooting your phone....all of us get that message....

So im guessing I can only flash signed roms??
Doing some R&D, found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29844067#post29844067 and specifically this.. paragraph which explains all
1) HTCdev.com's "Bootloader Unlock":
Basically this leaves the bootloader's (ie, Hboot 1.50 & 1.58) security flag on (S-On) but "unlocks the bootloader" (kinda like the phones Bios) so that you can manually flash everything except for Radios (Baseband) and Boot Logo's (Splash Screen). Kernels & roms can be flashed once a custom recovery is installed, but there are "extra" steps involved because the /boot partition (kernel/zImage) can only be set to write access from the Android OS or by initiating custom recovery from a pc's "Fastboot Command Prompt". There are workarounds, some work better than others. To flash Radio updates, you have to relock the bootloader and flash an OEM Full Stock Ruu (Rom Update Utility), kinda like Samsung's Sw Updater for the Transform. You also have to register your device with HTC and it "may void your warranty"

Use search and you'll find your answer.
But you have a few alternatives also:
- Flash another custom ROM
- Restore a backup
Search and you'll find an answer to how to do these.
Please tell me you understood everything before unlocking the bootloader.
Just remember that your phone is not dead, only time that it's dead is if you can't turn it on at all.

Does anyone have a recovery image made after latest OTA?

Hey everybody,
First off a few weeks ago I recieved the latest OTA update installed it and didn't think anything of it. Anyways recently I tried putting on a custom ROM and finally start messing around with my device. Apperantly though the latest OTA update has updated my hboot and radio version making it incompatible with all custom roms at this point, I think people are working on a fix, but I don't I don't know when or if that will come to light.
Anyways stupid me didn't make a backup because I didn't think I'd need it. I played around with my last two android phones (not htc and much easier to modify IMO) and never went back to stock. Anyways my question is, is does anyone have a stock recovery image made after the last OTA update? I'm assuming I could flash that and my phone would work? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what I really need and someone could help me at least get my phone working again? I appreciate any help I can get, thanks for reading guys.
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention, I'm on virgin mobile in the US.

I don't want to say your wrong because I'm new at this, so forgive me If I'm just ignoran t , but I don't think that will work for me because I've already tried using the RUU and flashing it manually and it keeps telling me,
Hboot version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
It doesn't seem to be allowing me to flash a RUU with a older version of hboot, or I could be wrong but I don't know what I'd do differently this time.

I think it won't let you run the ruu because you are dev unlocked. When you open the ruu exe file leave it on the welcome screen then search your computer for Rom.zip (it will be in a temp folder with a long name.) Grab the recovery.Img (or signed_recovery.IMG whatever its called) flash this on your phone via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.IMG) now type fastboot oem lock. That will relock your bootloader. I think the phone turns off after that. Put it back in fastboot then type fastboot oem rebootRUU. Now run the ruu. I take no credit for this ill post the thread link when I find it

Your phone is still identified as ls980. If you have zvc, use ioroot25 and auto-rec to get recovery.

Thank you my friend for your respond but I changed my phone...My ls980 I had unbricked it I sold it..Now my phone is lg g2 f320...
I would root and auto-rec, but all the root methods I have found require a recovery mode. Even when plugged into adb, the phone will not force into recovery. Is there a way to root without recovery mode?
Thanks.

Ioroot 25, will do the trick. Airplane mode, USB debugging on. No recovery necessary. Then install auto-rec and run.
