Does anyone have a recovery image made after latest OTA? - HTC One V

Hey everybody,
First off a few weeks ago I recieved the latest OTA update installed it and didn't think anything of it. Anyways recently I tried putting on a custom ROM and finally start messing around with my device. Apperantly though the latest OTA update has updated my hboot and radio version making it incompatible with all custom roms at this point, I think people are working on a fix, but I don't I don't know when or if that will come to light.
Anyways stupid me didn't make a backup because I didn't think I'd need it. I played around with my last two android phones (not htc and much easier to modify IMO) and never went back to stock. Anyways my question is, is does anyone have a stock recovery image made after the last OTA update? I'm assuming I could flash that and my phone would work? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what I really need and someone could help me at least get my phone working again? I appreciate any help I can get, thanks for reading guys.
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention, I'm on virgin mobile in the US.

You need to ruu, find the right ruu for your phone and do it. It will downgrade your hboot so you will be able to install whatever you like

I don't want to say your wrong because I'm new at this, so forgive me If I'm just ignoran t , but I don't think that will work for me because I've already tried using the RUU and flashing it manually and it keeps telling me,
Hboot version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
It doesn't seem to be allowing me to flash a RUU with a older version of hboot, or I could be wrong but I don't know what I'd do differently this time.

That is true. You don't need to revert the radio. You need to install a stock kernel.

To clarify. Most if the custom roms include a sick or jmz kernel. These boot loop with the new radio. If you fastboot flash a stock kernel and a sense based Rom you will be ok.

Lol thank you for making me notice, kinda forgot the link

I think it won't let you run the ruu because you are dev unlocked. When you open the ruu exe file leave it on the welcome screen then search your computer for Rom.zip (it will be in a temp folder with a long name.) Grab the recovery.Img (or signed_recovery.IMG whatever its called) flash this on your phone via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.IMG) now type fastboot oem lock. That will relock your bootloader. I think the phone turns off after that. Put it back in fastboot then type fastboot oem rebootRUU. Now run the ruu. I take no credit for this ill post the thread link when I find it

What are the next steps in rooting? Follow the usual using Revolutionary? Install CWM manually?

Agreed! With the bootlaoder now unlocked, what are the steps to rooting this beast? Do we still need to downgrade? Please pardon my noobness.
You wouldn't need to downgrade, I do know that. But as far as the rest, Idk. I did mine with revolutionary a while back before the 2.3.4 update, so I've been kicking ever since.

I would see if you can install superuser from the market.
EDIT: I would also see if you can install CWM and ROM manager. If all those install ok you should be able to load a custom ROM.

You do not have to downgrade if you unlocked. You should be able to install a new recovery image like Clockwork.

When you flash a custom ROM from CWM on an unlocked HBOOT, you then need to manually extract the boot.img from the custom ROM zip file and manually flash it in Fastboot mode using the command
Fastboot flash boot [path to the boot.img file]
This has been documented multiple times in this forum.

Yes in your case you will need to relock the bootloader in order to flash the RUU/PG32IMG.zip file. You cannot flash a RUU on an unlocked bootloader.
I'm guessing you guys have something other than .98 hboot? I'll find out soon when my wifes replacement comes in but I was not intending to use the HTC unlocker if I didn't have to. I was planning to try the tool attn1 has posted in the dev section unless the hboot changed with the ota.

Good to hear kinda thought it was. I'll be using the method attn1 has posted then. I don't trust the unlock method through HTC for one main reason which is this... Unlocking bootloader and rooting voids warranty as we all know. So what happens when HTC knows your bootloader was unlocked because you used their tool and they have the serial number?

[Q] First time rooting Question.

Hi!
I have DHD from Telus.
I'm about to root my DHD without knowing anything about rooting. So ...
1- After rooting with Ace hack kit. (rooted one time but went back to original had no sound at all) I wanted to know if I flash for exemple Cyanogen or any other ROM, I will be able to get ICS on OTA ?
2- After flashing another ROM will I have to configure anything to get it to work with my oparator (Telus) ?
3- I'm looking forward to put Android Revolution HD or Cyanogen ROM, and wanna get the one with less bugs to start with because I'm really scared doing this manipulation.
Thank you for your help. And sorry if it has been answered.
1. No, you won't, but when it gets released, you can check the forums here and get the rooted version, or install a RUU.
2. It SHOULD be properly set up.
3. If you're asking which one to install, I prefer CM.
First thing to do is make a backup. Thay way if you mess something up or you don't like what you install, you can always revert back.
Sent from a dream.
For now the only thing I can back up is my SD card because I'm not rooted yet. If there is a way to do it without rooting i'll be glad to ear.

Another question...
Will I be able to remove apps like TWITTER or all other apps locked by the phone after root, because this is the main reason for me to get my DHD root ?
Thanks again.

There should be a backup uption in recovery, or you could press "backup existing Rom"
In Rom manager from wich you flash clockwork mod recovery, and it depends on wich root method you use and the exploit, I think advanced ace hack kit does downgrade your radio but will automatically restore the right radio/S-OFF right after you get root access.

I am not totally new to this since i have my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it is rooted and i use ICS from Cynogeyn group and do all kind of crazy stuff with it, but the main difference is that i have an original image of my Factory ROM and recovery so at any point and time if i need i can get to the "virgin" version in couple of minutes.
That is why i am looking how i can back up my current ROM and Radio. Or to get CWM and root without changing the ROM and Radio. After that everything else i can figure out myself.

Well, if you are not new to this, you will know that flashing a rom will not change the radio...ever. Roms only come with RILS. The Hack Kit, downgrades to a GB version just in the cases where DHD have Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. Anyway, there are many radios threads in here where you can find your current one. Also, try searching to find your current rom...not all RUU's are available, but yours might be....a little more of information will help as well. What carrier are u holding?

Thank you guys for your help! I really appreciate this. I have read the guide as you suggested.
My carrier is Elisa Estonia, do not think it maybe anywhere here as my country is really small if i tell you the population you gonna laugh!
I did found though the radio that very close to what i have but not quite maybe you know the difference: my is 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M and what i found is 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M.
Also i was looking for CWM for DHD and found only touch version of it not sure if i really want to flash that one. I do not like too fancy stuff it seems have more issues. Do you know where can i get the regular CWM for Desire HD?
And yes, i am aware that if i flash ROM radio stay the same, but as soon as i understood during routing my Radio will be downgrade, but i really want to have this back!

You have to unroot your rom, there is an app that can turn on and off the root function. I saw someone mention it in another thread ...don't know if it's in the playstore !
And you should have taken a nandroid backup from the official rom before you applied root !
The app is called ota root keeper ....

Returning to stock?

Hey,
So I rooted my phone and installed CMW, but would like an OTA update to fix messaging issues with the current stock version. Unfortunately I didn't back up my phone prior to rooting, and there is no nandroid released for this phone; my CID is HTC__023.
I've researched until my head hurts, and think I have the solution, so my question is to verify it.
1) If I flash a stock RUU, will this return the phone to its original unrooted status, the original bootloader and remove CWM?
2)Since my phone is baseband version 2.1204.135.20, can I flash the following RUU:
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.17.707.3_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_278245_signed.exe
and not have compatibility or language issues?
Thanks for helping a semi-noob in advance!!
PS if it isn't the right RUU, how can I tell which is? I'm with Virgin Australia.
Go on fastboot, type 'fastboot getvar version-main' and tell us your version number.
PS your carrier doesn't matter because your device is unbranded.
Do NOT flash that RUU. It's not meant for your device. I have the same CID as you.
You ought to flash 2.17.728.5.

Can't find the RUU for 2.17, and you can't flash 1.29 RUUs since it's lower version. You have to either wait for someone to leak it (might be never) or restore someone else's stock nanodroid backup.
That's weird because my version is different.
Anyway, I don't think there's an RUU available for the 2.17 version. I've tried searching.

I could send you mine of you want. But the version's a bit different. I don't know if it's alright for you to use my Nandroid backup.
I reckon you should ask someone if it's okay.

I've read that a change in RUU is fine as long as the version number (the x in 2.17.728.x) goes up, not down.
BUT.. a nandroid needs to be made from a rooted phone, right? Can I just make my own nandroid off this phone, and use it to revert to a non-rooted no CWM version? This seems to easy an answer to be right.

Well, hboot version is 0.96 for 1.29 and 1.12 for 2.17 and you cannot flash older hboot versions so I can't see how it'll work. Try it if you really want to.
And how is making a backup of a rooted version going to help you revert to a non-rooted version?
Why don't you just update your non rooted handset, cause I know that the update is still available. If it's not rooted, has a locked bootloader, and stock kernel and recovery, I don't see the problem.

I already rooted the phone, a few weeks ago, before the latest update came out. So I can't install the OTA 2.17.728.5 update... and since I didn't make a non-rooted backup (didn't realise it was possible to make a full backup without first rooting the phone), and there isn't a released RUU, I am not sure how to get the OTA update now. Or even unroot/un-CWM the phone.

You can remove CWM by flashing a stock recovery on top.
and I think... think that you can unroot your device my removing all the files you used to root in the first place. Not even sure about this.. Are you on a custom ROM or stock rooted?
If you rooted your second handset never the update came out, then just flash the 1.29.728.12 RUU and then update.
I'm sure that this RUU is available because I've flashed it once.

When I backed-up my phone, Hboot was the newer version, so 1.29.728.12 RUU won't flash (thx Tomascus). I think my only option is to find a compatible nandroid.
@SidDev, do you have a clean (unrooted) 2.17.728.x nandroid backup? You'd have this if you flashed 1.29.728.12, then OTA updated to 2.17.728.x, then made a nandroid (before any rooting). The hboot version on the nandroid would be a match then also, cause I think the OTA update also updated Hboot..
If you have and could send me the file, it would be absolutely amazing!
Have you tried what SidDev and the others have suggested? It should work.

Kind of. Downgrading to the 1.29.728.12 RUU doesn't work, since my bootloader updated to the newer version. I have read about a sneaky workaround to install an older version RUU (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964371) but it is pretty involved, more can go wrong, and its unclear if it will even allow OTA updates - since the version number would read as a newer one it may not install the older updates (just speculation by me... but this stuff never goes to plan for me)
At the moment I'm still trying to get a nandroid, because that is pretty likely to work -- old RUU install is my last resort

Update:
Finally did this, it worked brilliantly! I now have a stock unrooted One X, with no CWM to interfere with OTA updates (so the OTA's work fine now).
Thanks for all the help!! :good:

Well, my google sheet doesn't contain flashable zip's but nevertheless you can restore the Nandroids via TWRP. (If you ask me I actually don't see a reason why someone should take the time to make a flashable stock zip if a restorable Nandroid that only contains the Boot Image, a System Image and the Stock Recovery behaves the same way as a clean installed stock rom. And if you don't need the Stock Recovery you don't need to restore it. Just my 2 cents. )

I made this from the systemdump by liabtoofer . This is rooted, unsecure boot image (so you can use the color calibration MOD ? ) and busybox and initd support. No tweaks and other mods . ?
I can make one completely stock, Unrooted etc. Don't really see the point but I can.
Maybe I will make a separate thread.
Don't think you can take ota. Since you don't have stock recovery .
Glad I could help.

Huh? That's odd.... Didn't hear about that error when flashing this rom. However been reading about this on other threads . Are you on the newest firmware?
For color control I use the apk provided in the kcal thread. (The one with the parrots ? )
