What are the next steps in rooting? Follow the usual using Revolutionary? Install CWM manually?

Agreed! With the bootlaoder now unlocked, what are the steps to rooting this beast? Do we still need to downgrade? Please pardon my noobness.
You wouldn't need to downgrade, I do know that. But as far as the rest, Idk. I did mine with revolutionary a while back before the 2.3.4 update, so I've been kicking ever since.

I would see if you can install superuser from the market.
EDIT: I would also see if you can install CWM and ROM manager. If all those install ok you should be able to load a custom ROM.

You do not have to downgrade if you unlocked. You should be able to install a new recovery image like Clockwork.

Installed CWM 5.0, superuser and after wiping data/cache and flashing a rom... Stuck at HTC White screen!
Flashed several roms, can't get passed it.
It's frustrating... No idea what to do next. I'm going to try flashing an earlier version of CWM and retry flashing a ROM.
Will update with progress.

How long are you waiting bro..?
First. You should have not used the htcdev garbage. You should have used revolutionary.
That is all.

When you flash a custom ROM from CWM on an unlocked HBOOT, you then need to manually extract the boot.img from the custom ROM zip file and manually flash it in Fastboot mode using the command
Fastboot flash boot [path to the boot.img file]
This has been documented multiple times in this forum.

Yes in your case you will need to relock the bootloader in order to flash the RUU/PG32IMG.zip file. You cannot flash a RUU on an unlocked bootloader.
I'm guessing you guys have something other than .98 hboot? I'll find out soon when my wifes replacement comes in but I was not intending to use the HTC unlocker if I didn't have to. I was planning to try the tool attn1 has posted in the dev section unless the hboot changed with the ota.

Good to hear kinda thought it was. I'll be using the method attn1 has posted then. I don't trust the unlock method through HTC for one main reason which is this... Unlocking bootloader and rooting voids warranty as we all know. So what happens when HTC knows your bootloader was unlocked because you used their tool and they have the serial number?

I'm in the same boat, there's plenty of information out there but it seems scattered.
I read through the Comprehensive S-Off/Root Methods thread and I think it goes like this:
Flash the RUU that's posted in that thread.
Re-lock bootloader (fastboot oem lock).
At this point it's like you're back to stock, correct?
Downgrade hboot if needed using the scripts shown (or does the RUU do this?)
S-off with revolutionary and get clockworkmod flashed.
Flash superuser / a ROM.
My question is: what will be the state of my phone after I flash the RUU listed in that thread? Will I be back to stock recovery? Will I need to downgrade hboot?

I think you have to flash the stock recovery first, before the RUU.
Flash the 2.3.3 ruu, make sure you have stock recovery, relock it then use revolutionary to get S-OFF.

I've tried renaming it to PG32IMG.zip, but it throws an error stating "wrong zipped image" or something of that sort.
I've tried flashing it through flashboot:
C:\Android>fastboot flash recover recovery_signed.img

If you are using revolutionary to root it does everything for you so there would be no need to run an extra su zip. From what you are saying it sounds like you are trying to root.
What is your hboot and what Rom are you running? If you are on stock android unrooted 2.3.4 then you will need to downgrade so you will be able to use revolutionary correctly.
Also do NOT use the HTC unlock for the bootloader. You will not be s-off and will regret it.

Stuck on HTC screen
First I would like to apologize if this is the wrong way to do this as this is my first post as a new member. Please let me know the correct protocal if this is wrong.
I unlocked using HTC bootloader unlock
I rooted Android 2.3.4 using Superoneclick
Deleted Verizon bloatware
I have/had CWM v5.0.2.0-vivow and ROM Manager
Tried to flash custom ROM directly from Rom Manager
Everything seemed like it went well but froze on white HTC screen in reboot
Tried to flash MIUI with CWM and it successfully flashed but stuck on same HTC screen
Tried to restore
Tried to do Factory Data Reset (wiped everything)
Tried the IMG.zip trick and bootloader doesn't read it. (not sure if I have the right ones I need for 2.3.4)
Boots into bootloader and CWM fine but can't get past the HTC screen
Please help or direct me to someone that can so I can SIM unlock for my GF. She has to use a crap phone right now.
I appreciate your time and any effort
1. Htcdev unlock isn't full s off so flashing stuff is more complicated.
2. Name it to PG32IMG.zip
3. You'll get faster replies of you make your own question thread

It's htcdev unlocked
I used ROM manager to download and flash
Then when it froze I tried using CWM to flash MIUI
It said it was successful but still stuck on HTC screen
Try downloading a stock RUU and name it to PG32IMG.zip and put it in the root of your SD card and boot into hboot. Then I would personally suggest going for full s off because flashing ROMs is 10 times easier. But if not, after reverting to stock re flash any ROM you want through whatever process you have to for htcdev unlock

Hey, I have a DHD, which I had rooted, and in order to get it to the stok rom, I flashed it to 2.3.3. it and unrooted it with market app(because my usb is not working, thats why I flashed to stock, so I can send it to HTC). However, I can still access bootloader with volume down + power, and I cant update my DHD, because after rebooting, the phone start in bootloader mode and doesnt update. When I choose the update file in bootloader, it shows some kind of error, but I dont think thats a problem with the update file, but with the bootloader not able to install that file.
Do you have any solutions on how I could update it, or hide the bootloader?
Thanks a lot
Can you explain what you are exactly trying to achieve? Does the device automatically go into bootloader when you boot the device?
Are you s-off?

Do you have a custom recovery? If you have you won't be able to do the OTA update as it requires stock Android recovery.

How do you charge your phone?
And if you flash stock rom trough recovery, bootloader will still be accessible and you will still have 4ext as recovery. I read somewhere that you could get the stock Android recovery from a RUU.EXE

Yeah, I could try that, but first I have to find how to get the stock recovery from the RUU. Or maybe i'll just send it to the servos without doing anything. Do you thing they will repair it? All that it does is get stuck at the HTC screen.
Things that I have tried.
New Ruus
PG32IMG
The phone is recognized in fastboot,
ADB does not recognize the phone.
I have been going through the forum, and websites for the last 4 hours.
Factory Reset reboots the phone and gives me a security warning.
Recovery does the same.
I also get the USB Not recognized error once the phone comes on. I have installed the HTC drivers, I have also installed HTC Sync and have removed it.
Am I stressing and overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to take this phone out back and lay it to rest.
Thank you in advance

I was given this phone because because it is stuck in the bootloop. Phones come with their own recovery, this isn't a custom recovery. I have tried to run ruus, the error I get is Main version is older. I have also downloaded official stock roms with no luck.
When I hit recovery, the phone reboots back to the bootloader, the recovery never comes up.

I currently have fastboot open, I am not entirely familiar with the Incredible 2, but normal case S-on = none rooted from my experience.
it was devunlocked then relocked i believe, from the error message i believe you are not flashing the right ruu, you are trying to flash an older one, you need the newest one, it was released a few months ago if i recall correctly and it was no big update but thats the one you need, search for it and try it it should work. if you are s on you cant flash a older ruu than whats already on it

Hi,
I am not new to rooting and flashing but I seem to have jammed.
I can flash custom recoveries(used both CWM and TWRP) no bother but I cannot flash rom.
I have tried pushing and side loading. TWRP just says failed.
CWM says cannot open update.zip from tmp (bad)
I am unlocked.
I am S-ON so I don't know a way around that atm without a ROM. I have tried reinstalling stock but failed.
HTC one M8 UK EE network.
Would love to fix this please.

As I would, normally.
Toolkits cause more issues than they solve.
Try:
fastboot erase cache
Then flash recovery again, and see if that helps.
Also, do you get the phone model number as a response when you type both:
adb devices
fastboot devices

Usually I work from a mac but decided to start afresh on my desktop.
I downloaded venom for m8
reflashed TWRP recovery.
Booted to recovery.
wiped cache and such.
Then adb side loaded the rom.
Some reason it worked. I have done this a good few times previously and with various rooms, not just venom.
I was using the AIO toolkit to side load this rather than the ADB cmd prompt.
Thanks for posting the steps that worked for you.
Like you said, hard to say what fixed it. Perhaps getting away from the toolkit, maybe just re-flashing recovery (even though you had done so previously) or wiping cache.
If moving a ROM to the device form the PC, I prefer adb push to adb sideload. Sideload seems to fail sometimes where push is fine. Push is some more steps (booting recovery and a few taps there to flash the ROM) but it seems more reliable. Although if it worked, it worked!
