[Q] First time rooting Question. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have DHD from Telus.
I'm about to root my DHD without knowing anything about rooting. So ...
1- After rooting with Ace hack kit. (rooted one time but went back to original had no sound at all) I wanted to know if I flash for exemple Cyanogen or any other ROM, I will be able to get ICS on OTA ?
2- After flashing another ROM will I have to configure anything to get it to work with my oparator (Telus) ?
3- I'm looking forward to put Android Revolution HD or Cyanogen ROM, and wanna get the one with less bugs to start with because I'm really scared doing this manipulation.
Thank you for your help. And sorry if it has been answered.

1. No, you won't, but when it gets released, you can check the forums here and get the rooted version, or install a RUU.
2. It SHOULD be properly set up.
3. If you're asking which one to install, I prefer CM.

First thing to do is make a backup. Thay way if you mess something up or you don't like what you install, you can always revert back.
Sent from a dream.

For now the only thing I can back up is my SD card because I'm not rooted yet. If there is a way to do it without rooting i'll be glad to ear.
Thank you for your support.

Another question...
Will I be able to remove apps like TWITTER or all other apps locked by the phone after root, because this is the main reason for me to get my DHD root ?
Thanks again.

After rooting, get a file manager such as es explorer and enable root explorer and write permissions. Then go to the system >> apps folder and delete. Make a nand backup first just in case.

How I can back up my default ROM? Is there a way i can backup my Radio?

The best way to back up your entire Rom except the SD card is to flash a custom recovery and do a nandbackup.

Also as i understood if i do root to my phone it will change my ROM and even possibly Radio, but i want to be able to go back to what i currently have in case if i will need.
Is there a way to just root without changing anything else perhaps just to get CWM and root?

There should be a backup uption in recovery, or you could press "backup existing Rom"
In Rom manager from wich you flash clockwork mod recovery, and it depends on wich root method you use and the exploit, I think advanced ace hack kit does downgrade your radio but will automatically restore the right radio/S-OFF right after you get root access.

I am not totally new to this since i have my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it is rooted and i use ICS from Cynogeyn group and do all kind of crazy stuff with it, but the main difference is that i have an original image of my Factory ROM and recovery so at any point and time if i need i can get to the "virgin" version in couple of minutes.
That is why i am looking how i can back up my current ROM and Radio. Or to get CWM and root without changing the ROM and Radio. After that everything else i can figure out myself.

Well, if you are not new to this, you will know that flashing a rom will not change the radio...ever. Roms only come with RILS. The Hack Kit, downgrades to a GB version just in the cases where DHD have Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. Anyway, there are many radios threads in here where you can find your current one. Also, try searching to find your current rom...not all RUU's are available, but yours might be....a little more of information will help as well. What carrier are u holding?

Thank you guys for your help! I really appreciate this. I have read the guide as you suggested.
My carrier is Elisa Estonia, do not think it maybe anywhere here as my country is really small if i tell you the population you gonna laugh!
I did found though the radio that very close to what i have but not quite maybe you know the difference: my is 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M and what i found is 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M.
Also i was looking for CWM for DHD and found only touch version of it not sure if i really want to flash that one. I do not like too fancy stuff it seems have more issues. Do you know where can i get the regular CWM for Desire HD?
And yes, i am aware that if i flash ROM radio stay the same, but as soon as i understood during routing my Radio will be downgrade, but i really want to have this back!

[Q] How to extract original stock Rom?

How to extract stock Rom? The case is that I haven't done backup of my stock Rom branded by era provider.
Now some guy told me that he just bought desire z from era and his Rom is identical to RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_R_Radio_12.28e.60.14 0f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF_release (available on this forum)
except radio code which is ending with fU instead f.
So if I would like to get Rom which is flashed on his device, to have exactly what was on mine on the beginning what and how it should be done?

Ok, if I understand you right, you currently have a phone with stock ROM, and you want to take a backup of that phone, correct?
If that's the case, I think you'll still need to root the phone in order to install Clockwork recovery. Once you have Clockwork, then you can take a nandroid backup of your phone. So I don't think you can grab a backup of stock ROM before it was rooted.

Yeah so this a problem. During rooting it is necessary to downgrade your soft to 1.34 what automatically force you to loose your stock Rom. :/

No no I wanted only to have a possibility to back to the stock Rom if my phone will have to be sent to service on warranty.
I know one guy from Poland who also bought a phone from the same telcom operator - era.
He gave me info that the stock Rom on his phone is:
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
While on the forum can be find the same but with one difference in radio code - only f instead fU
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 and can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879384
But what does it mean this difference mentioned above and if it is negligible or not?

Well, unless you've flashed a custom radio, another option could be to extract everything from that RUU you found in the forum and flashing everything except the radio.
Although if you want to send your phone for warranty you'll probably have to do a bit more work to get s-on again...

I'm quite sure that flashing those ROMs do not change your radio. So if you need to send for warranty, I think you'll just need to flash the ROM part of the RUU (should be able to find a post somewhere which tells you how to extract just certain parts of the RUU) and then reflash partition 7 to get S-OFF. If you used gfree, it would have made a backup of that partition before it gave you S-OFF. Hopefully you still have it.
Actually, have you taken a look at this?

Reverting back to stock

Hi all
Could anyone point me in the right direction so I can flash my phone back to the stock Rom please?
I've got a HOX now and want to sell my HD to a website online, but I'm afraid they may send it back because of the custom Rom I have installed.
The phone was purchased about a year ago and was on the orange network.
Any help would be appreciated.

since u already have a custom rom installed tht means u are s- off, u need to get e-off , in case u have both of them u are ready to go download the corresponding ruu for the phone flash it through fastboot. i would prefer using a pd98img.zip. this will put ur phone again back to stock like brought from the store.. make sure u dnt flash a froyo ruu on a DHD shipped with gingerbread RUU, it will mess up the phone.

yes Advance Hack Kit can also do the job, but it can also mess up the phone if not done properly and moreover if u want to be more specific about which stock rom u want to return to thn ruu is the best option.. here try this one http://goo.im/ruu/ace download the ruu its in exe format just run the exe rest it wil do by itself.. P.S: Advance Hack Kit is the best and easiest software for returning to stock or root or any other stuff only whn used according to the instructions.

[Q] One X root - Advice please

I have received an upgrade from my network - Three UK - htc One X
I rooted my unlocked Evo 3D previously, but reading into One X root, I'm finding conflicting information and no straight forward solutions. I have had 2 software updates already - 4.0.4 now. Sense 4.1
Does it matter that I have these updates and that the phone came from the carrier?
Anyone know the best way to get it rooted, so that I can backup the stock Rom before choosing a custom?
Thanks

Please explain what you want ? Are on complete stock and want to update or are you on a custom rom and want to update ?
And is there still an update available or did you update it to the latest 4.0.4 sense 4.1 ?
I'm a little confused reading your text !
Update 4.0.4 comes with sense 4.1 this is one update not 2 separate updates !
Please give the proper info so i can help you with this
If you want to root you must unlock via HTC dev first . It stays stuck on the boot screen of cyanogenmod, i've tried reflashing the kernel, fastboot erase cache, reflashing the rom, restoring to my old rom, which only changed the screen it stayed stuck to (HTC screen). And now somehow my Nandroid backup isn't on my phone anymore, neither is the cyanogenmod ROM, so i've got a Phone i've flashed the latest cyanogenmod onto, that's stuck in bootloop, with nothing else on it. I think that pretty much sums it up. My last resort is drowning or destroying it so my insurance wil get me a new one, however it will cost me, and I'd rather not destroy such a awesome device

Sounds like you need to flash the boot.img that supports hboot 1.36. Check the first post of your CM10 ROM. GPS won't work.
If you have clockworkmod 5.8.4.0, you can mount sd card and copy a different ROM on if you want.
If you have an older version, drop to fastboot and flash the new one (I say new, it's been out like 6 months).
i've tried flashing CWM, but in the cmd window, it says "FAILED <command write failed <unknown error>>
and then that it's finished
I would be grateful I'd anyone has this RUU as well. Restore is corrupted .

Today I've tried rooting my phone, it all went horribly wrong, I've literally tried everything on the XDA forums and have checked out the disaster recovery tutorial. Nothing however seems to help, only thing I haven't been able to try is to flash a RUU, because I haven't been able to find mine, it's 3.14.161.27 , if anyone is in possesion of it or knows how to come by it, I'd really need your help!
Thanks in advance!

What you need is Vodafone JB nandroid. Download it from HERE, and flash from your recovery.
You can also find it HERE
Flash boot.img contained in this nandroid, and you should be fine.
Let me know how it went...

[Q] System update HELP!

Hey XDA community,
i have recently rooted my HTC Desire 816/Virgin mobile
Currently running stock ROM
Adroid version: 4.4.2
HTC Sense version: 6.0
Software Version: 1.13.652.1
I keep getting the software update pop up for version 1.50.652.3 which i previously had before rooting
as i try update it the update is aborted
Is there anyway that i can update it and also keep my root access?
Ive tried many different ROMs although most of them seem to be inefficient as either the calling, data, or text messaging doesn't work, i would rather stick to the stock ROM until fully functional ROMs are out there.
only thing your suppose to do is just install the root, relock bootloader and flash recovery hope will work won't get aborted.....

Open SuperSU and choose unroot, flash the stock recovery, relock the bootloader and then take the update.
Then re-root the same way you did the first time.

Google, and Google.
Edit: Sorry I don't mean to be biased, Bing is also an option.

There's no reason to be rude to the guy/girl. Their new.
Here is a thread with the links to the stock recovery with instructions on how to flash it and re-lock your phone.

I was simply telling them to use Google, I don't see were anything rude was said in that post. It was only 3 words, and 2 of them were Google...
But just because this is a Q&A thread, doesn't mean they should disregard any other way of getting information themselves.
Why should someone else have to take time out if there day to get the link, and give it to this person, when as I said, they can Google it.
But with that being said, I'm sorry you saw rudeness in those 3 words, next time I'll try to be more considerate.
