EDIT: Dish Network owns AWS-4 Spectrum running at 2000Mhz and 2200Mhz.

I honestly think Sprint will be involved. They're building out their network but there's no way they can get a nation covered by 2013. They will likely partner with Sprint with their lte network for its coverage until they get a hold of things. Reason being, they want to compete against Verizon and At&t, and T-Mobile has the speeds they need, but not exactly the coverage. When sprint finishes their network vision, it'll be on par with Verizon in terms of speeds and coverage.

Agree with you on that one. I actually think it might be better as Sprint is upgrading every tower in their network with a few exceptions. I'm also excited Sprint just bought some people and spectrum from US Cellular in the Chicago market. In two years, Sprint will have THE best network in Chicago, and I'm happy about that.

They will probably be very tempting when it comes to their entry level pricing. Google likes to recruit a lot of customers by promotions that they lose money on, then make the money from elsewhere. (Ie: Google Play Market. If they sell only Android phones, more android apps will be bought from the market.)

The article says the Google network will be data-only, no call minutes or SMS/MMS. That stuff would be handled as VoIP, most likely through Google Voice.
So, I'm guessing it would be $20-40/month for unlimited data. Any sort of cap obviously wouldn't work for a data-only network.

Dish Network owns AWS-4 spectrum at 2000Mhz/2200Mhz spectrum. This frequency covers slightly less customers with slightly less building penetration. The best way to think of it is between Sprint's 3G and Wimax coverage.
If they decide to go with Sprint in the meantime, they'll probably be forced to have a cap on data until they get their own network on the ground. Google will definitely have a strong presence in the U.S. cellular market.

Yea it does happen all the time, but amc is one of 5 or 6 channels that was dropped. Just bc they didnt want to give em more money, its been over a year and they still have yet to come to a resolution. Lets look at direct tv, when they had that 17 channel problem, they got that done within a week. So yes i do think they are bad at making deals or getting deals, resolved.

If google goes through with this I seriously doubt they'd use any CDMA carrier for any kind of backbone.
Every nexus device they've released has always been on GSM networks first and I don't even think the Nexus 4 will hit Sprint or Verizon.
Google loves the sim cards.

Google's looking at data only network, which means it'll need fast speeds to support voice over IP. LTE is a gsm based technology and Sprint is Google's best carrier friend (Google Voice, Google Play bill to account features, etc.)

Here's a link if anyone wants to see the official statement
WSJ reports this as fact YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL ATT are insane. Look at this hype they have made:
“The actions by the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice to block this transaction do not change the realities of the U.S. wireless industry. It is one of the most fiercely competitive industries in the world, with a mounting need for more spectrum that has not diminished and must be addressed immediately. The AT&T and T-Mobile USA combination would have offered an interim solution to this spectrum shortage. In the absence of such steps, customers will be harmed and needed investment will be stifled.”
Sure.

Hallelujah. Sometimes prayers are answered.
Hmm... a roaming agreement... sweeeeeeeeeeeet, I can mooch of your 42mbps HSPA+ while mooching off AT&T's LTE.
Also, Google will NEVER make their OS exclusive to any carrier, and if they did, it would be Verizon... because Verizon is the biggest android carrier.

Did it for a month or two without Sprint batting an eye. It would take months for Sprint to notice, all the while your phone depreciates further. Either bite the bullet and pay the fine, or reneg and hope you can have the collection erased from your credit report. How anyone can have that erased by saying 'not my debt' is a complete mystery and should not be heeded as sound advice.

Three options:
1) Pay the ETF
2) Just live with it and leave at the end of the contract
3) After choosing #1 or #2, never sign a contract again

So there was no guarantee of service speed or anything of the sort in your contract. When you signed a contract, there is no clause that if they don't provide a certain service to you that you're entitled to leave the contract. You either have to pay to leave, or continue to pay out your remaining months of service, those are your only legal options.
Just roam on Verizon a lot. Flash a modded prl. You'll get fast speeds for a few months then Sprint will terminate you.

I know what you mean by the data speeds. Currently I'm blazing at a whopping 22kbps! It just errors out saying that the connection timed out.

You're fooling yourself if you think it won't end up on your credit report. All you did was dispute it. The CRA will verify the debt is yours with Sprint and it will be on your report until you prove that it is not your debt or you settle with Sprint (or several years from the date you left Sprint when it falls off automatically). And no, saying 'not my debt' does not prove that it is not yours.

Congratulations on them not verifying the debt. I wouldn't count on them always siding with someone just saying "it's not mine" when common sense says Sprint has every right to try to recoup the money per the contract all users agree to. I didn't remember Sprints ETF being $350 three years ago. I'm pretty sure it was on $200 back then when I was with them.
Didn't you have an Evo3D when I did (like less than a year ago)?
Flash a roaming prl and download as much data as possible.
I believe that they let you out if you move to an area that they don't cover. Use their coverage map to find some areas they don't cover. Call them and tell them your job is transferring you to Billings Montana or something and you want to check coverage at a couple addresses you are looking at (check realtor.com to get a few addresses). Make sure you already know there is no coverage based off of coverage map. When they tell you no coverage ask them how they handle it if there is no coverage. Chances are you get out right there. Especially if you've already been roaming a lot.

Hmm.. I just checked some maps and it seems Lebanon doesn't have any actual Sprint towers. Your city is right next to some towers that are getting NV upgrades though but none in the actual city.
It might be a Shentel area, but I'm not certain. Shentel is a subsidiary / partner of sprint and is also doing "NV" roll-out in coordination with sprint.
Actually I do think you're in a shentel market as Lebanon is not far from Harrisburg which IS a shentel market. In that case, considering there's no Sprint towers in that entire region of Harrisburg and extending to Lebanon... you will probably get LTE and NV upgrades from Shentel.

You do have something there. Your area is part of Shentel as I've stated. Shentel is a subsidiary/partner of sprint and is also part of the network vision roll out. Your area is serviced by Alcatel-Lucent and is making steady progress in Harrisburg which also is literally next door to Lebanon, PA. You WILL get LTE 800mhz/1900mhz and likely CW 2.5ghz and NV upgraded 3g. All sprint and affiliates will be upgraded to that standard. It takes time but last check, Shentel is making good progress.
Here is more info on your area..

I've been seeing news rumors saying Tmobile maybe the first to run 5G...what do you guys think? I haven't seen any LTE yet even...this maybe just BS. On the other hand, Tmo just worked on LTE...so maybe it still easy for them to reprogram to 5G...? Anyone got the inside scoop?
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/t-mobile-first-5g-lte-advanced/
I wouldn't say this is BS, but calling LTE-A 5G is BS. Really I think T-mobile wants to have the fastest 4G network and they may call it "5G" if they got 300mbs+ out of it, but I really think they should start rolling out 4G LTE across there 2G foot print.
They're all marketing terms, and their meanings change. Most of the current "4G" infrastructure is more like 3.5G since it falls so far short of the original design specifications.
LTE-Advanced is probably going to be billed as 5G, but it's more like what 4G was originally supposed to mean. Cheap and greedy telcos sold us short and marketed the intermediate steps as the final product.
2G, 3G, 4G used to purely mean something, but now the "label" has shifted to more around the raw speed regardless of the infrastructure. A great example is TM with their HSPA+ calling it 4G, which (like one mentioned) is more like 3.5G.
However, TM's HSPA+ (3.5ish G) in some areas can whoop on other carriers LTE. Look at my sig; great example.
Although TM was last in the race for the LTE infrastructure, TM has the most expandable infrastructure over all the other carriers. Very smart move. Why? Because if the other carriers wanted to expand they would have to put in place a completely new infrastructure for their next generation network, whereas TM can just expand on their current (New LTE) infrastructure. Now the tides have shifted.
So 5G for TM? When the time comes, yes TM would be the first to have it since they have the ability to build on their current platform without the hassle of putting in a new one.

Google fiber is a game changer for the USA. Other countries have much better speeds at much cheaper prices. Google is forcing other carriers to step up. Time Warner is already ****ing there pants in places where Google fiber already rolled out.

Lol. Really guys? 5G refers to the Wi-Fi technology used. 802.11ac.

LTE is faster than my home cable Internet...
Honestly, I don't think our phones need the kind of bandwidth LTE 4G offers. Not with bandwidth caps anyway...

Honestly yeah ... we don't need lte .... we already getting more 10mbps thats fast enough for me if I want really fast internet I would just connect to my wifi ... thats just me ...

I'm still waiting for LTE in California. I get dial up speeds unless I head for a larger city. They shouldn't even mention new technology until completely rolling out LTE to more cities.

We're not talking about WiFi. Samsung has started mobile tests that are 100 times faster than LTE. T-Mobile is rumored to be the 1st carrier in the world to utilize it.

SKT and KT are going LTE-A later this year, collab with Samsung of course.. (South Korea) I do not see any reason for TMO not to invest on the forthcoming future.

Yeah really, I still facepalm at Cincinnati Bell putting up advertizements on the billboards about FiOptics when some of those places don't even get it! OTOH I'm surprised cell companies don't offer unlimited (fast) internet on their internet sticks.. if that happened I'd dump my ADSL and go with a stick.
However, I still find it amusing that cell companies still push tiered data plans (thankfully Tmo no longer does this...)

I'm glad they do. People are going to be using cell phones to provide themselves with home internet. The isps need to get with the program here. T-Mobile actually has a "grace period" of tethering for this sole reason. Fibre and xFinity are prolly the only ones faster than some cell companies. It's pitiful.

Big rumor going around right now TMobile will have free data roaming in over 100 countries (may make unlock un-necessary) announcement to happen tonight.... Tmobile is coming at the big boys hard lately (I am so glad that ATT deal got blocked)

That's the rumor.
And the next rumor: TMob - Sprint merger, leaving 3 equal-ish sized carriers to compete, instead of 2 biggies, and 2 small fries.

Well no longer a rumor only drawback is 2G speeds Still better then $15/mb roaming data rates.
20 cents a min for international calls is pretty good though.

A T-Mobile executive was quoted as saying a merger with Sprint was the "logical ultimate combination" two weeks ago. Wouldn't be so bad to add Sprint's coverage (realestate) to Tmob's, as long as CDMA is killed off with fire ASAP.

I also wouldn't mind the extended coverage but I am afraid of Sprint's ethics and HORRIBLE customer service somehow leaking into T-Mobile's customer service. The only benefit I see is like you said the extra coverage but I am more afraid of Sprint's "bads" to creep in. And yes definitely no CDMA that would be horrible.
A T-Mobile Sprint merger would be good if CDMA, was killed off, T-Mobile had operational control, they sell the 2500mhz spectrum use the additional 1900 mhz for HSPA and use Sprints 800 mhz for LTE as well as the current 1700 mhz

You forgot one thing... Keep Sprint's unlimited data for life, cause unlimited 4G is nice. I said pretty much this same thing in some other thread. I had sprint previously, their coverage sucked, but I am happy with t mobile right now. If they do so happen to merge, I want my company discount back. With sprint, it was 23% discount. T is 15%.

That is true I was talking from a network point of view, but I completely agree about the keeping unlimited data for life they also should put John Legere as C.E.O he's been doing great things. I was also a Sprint customer but I switched to T-Mobile for speed and I haven't looked back.

Same here. But I know exactly what you mean. If sprint and t mobile merged, they would have the ability to expand further than at&t and Verizon.
It actually makes a lot of sense. They just have to nit pick the good things from each carrier.
1. 4G from t mobile.
2. New and old spectrums from Sprint.
3. Unlimited high speed data from Sprint, without a price hike.
4. GSM from t-mobile.
5. The phone policies from t mobile.
6. John Legere.
With that all being said, maybe t mobile should buy sprint instead. Looks like they have more going for them.
I also wonder what the new logo would look like. SprinT-mobile maybe?
Edit: and the t-mobile girl. If they really feel like getting rid of her, they can send her my way.

That would be great if that would happen except T-Mobile's parent company Deuche Telekom unfortunately wants out of the US market and will try to sell ASAP.

Well, that was the case, but maybe with the new announcement of free data in 100 countries, they may just change their minds. Here is hoping they either just stay the way they are, or make the smart move.

I've done data roaming in a few different cities in mexico and although the speeds do get throttled I was able to do anything I needed to do within email and social media. I got a text from T-Mobile with the option to use 4g at an additional cost per day but didn't see the need. Throttled speeds should be around 128kbps
