Have never updated via kies before. I am currently on the ics leak rooted and have removed system apps. In order to update do I need to flash back to stock or can I update from kies without doing anything. Usually I just go for it and update, but wanna be careful this time cause I have no backup phone anymore
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda premium
I'd like to know this, too. But not if the official ROM has the same bugs as the leak did.
so kies will not let me upgrade having the leaked firmware on it. says the phone cannot update via kies.
U have to be on STOCK everything b4 any program will let u update anything. Its precations so that u can't blame the company... and were not supposed to get leaks.

How did you update from the leak? I tried and so far I'm stuck at the Samsung logo.
Edit: Never mind, figured it out. Thanks anyway.
Got my JB update today, I was rooted stock before, and the install went fine without any problems.
After the update, my Quadrant score went down dramatically, from 4500 (stock rooted ICS) to 3700 JB.
So I did a factory reset and all hell breaks loose. I dont seem to have 4G anymore, although the 4G signs is showing on the top. Play store, Maps, Navigations, etc wont load (maybe since I dont internet it wont load?). After noticing all these problems, I did another factory reset.
And now I cant even sign in to Google.
Seriously, I never thought an OTA upgrade would mess up my phone.
Can anyone shine a light my way?
Thanks.
I had a similar problem with the OTA LH2 on a rooted stock ICS , I couldn't connect WIFI, a lot of apps weren't working properly. After 4-5 factory resets, still no go. My only option was to use ODIN and reinstall the complete firmware that way, and all was back to normal. Im pretty sure this happened because of OTA over a rooted device. Worth a try I think.. Good luck.
Odin the update like above then enter recovery and wipe again, sucks you got a messed up download.

Unzip the odin file, turn the device off, holding volume down, home button and then the power button, the phone should go into download mode, start odin up, connect the phone via usb, hit the pda option, then browse to the file you downloaded and unzipped, the md5 file should be the only file showing up, select it and hit start.
Phone will auto restart upon completion.

Is that file the stock rooted JB OTA? I downloaded the root66 stock rooted OTA: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
But the file that I downloaded has *.7z thus unrecognizable by ODIN's PDA option.
I will download your file now and give it a shot.
Thanks!

Ok, I downloaded the *.7z file, extracted, flash it through ODIN and get my wifi to work, and my 4g to work for a brief moment.
Then my 4g stopped working again, and i notice that when i go to Status option in the setting, my device is listed as Modified, whereas for a few minutes after i flashed, it was listed as Normal.
When my device was listed as Normal, my 4g would work, then it switched itself to Modified and it seems that Samsung or Tmo locked my device.
Ugh, I am so bummed!
Modified ststus is jusy becsuse your rooted. It goes away if you revert.
It shouldnt have any bearing on your data though.

I am on stock ICS (Android version 4.0.4)
My baseband version is T999UVLEM
I rooted my phone when I got it at launch, and then put off all the incremental updates until official JB was released for Tmobile. Now that it's released, I'd like to update to. What is the proper way for me to do this? Flash through odin I assume? Will I still be able to keep my root or root the device after JB is installed?
Thanks in advance, I just don't want a nightmare situation like the OP if I flash incorrectly

Thanks for that, it pretty much covers all of my questions.
One that I'm still wondering about though, is can I go straight from rooted UVALEM to the latest JB firmware? Or do I flash back to stock UVALEM and THEN flash JB? Or do I need to flash each incremental update before finally finishing off with JB?

Or they can use the regular firmware file, flash it via mobile odin which roots it for ya, without the hassle and is much faster, I used it so I can say clearly it did an excellent job.
Note: if hotfile is too slow and there are no alternatives, I can upload the full firmware odin file to dev-host for everyone.

I always use mobile odin pro. My favorite app! But not everyone wants to pay for it and the free version doesnt have EverRoot.
I usually recommend it, but too many people were updating today so I wanted to stick with what everyone should be willing to do!
Ive already got the stock fw hosted from my account if that helps.
Was one of the first things I did after release. Check the firmware thread in my sig for that Plus more!

Same, mine is a stock root. I followed the instructions from the website below.

any help would be great

Download root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.7z install it from Odin. You get new Jelly Bean update and it will stay rooted. I just did it and it worked. You will not lose any data either, but make a back up either way. You will loose CWM but you can just simply reinstall it from Rom Manager

I don't know about other's experiences, but my phone seems to be much more responsive in general after the update. Apps load and quit quicker, launcher is faster and smoother, and battery life is still about the same (very good for me at about 10% every 3hrs). I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Other than two weird resets in the first hour after updating, I have had no problems since and everything (wifi, LTE, GPS, etc) is working fine. The best thing for me is that K9 mail is so much faster and responsive with my 7 imap accounts.
PS - I was really hoping for the 3D panorama camera in this update, but alas no such luck.

Try these images.
Just downloaded the rooted Bell 4.1.1 rom and attempted to flash with mobile ODIN.
But this resulted in boot loop.
Could the stock recovery have be preventing this from working?
Should I flash CWM now?
The recovery you're using shouldn't matter, particularly.
I'm not really familiar with the way Mobile Odin does things; I would have used regular desktop Odin to do things.
Generally, you see a boot loop with stock images if you're going back and forth between stock and non-stock and you did not wipe cache/data during the process. You can carry out said wipes with the stock recovery.
Good, just did it on good ol' regular odin and it worked.
No idea what caused the loop with Mobile Odin, I was going from stock 4.0.4 (w/ root) to stock 4.1.1 (w/root).
Im still having issues with my GPS and cant seem to get it to work, and i know there are several diff threads on fixes, but none seem to work for me. Just curious if there is anything i havnt tried. My issue is the same as most, after using the GPS, it will drop signal and the icon disappears. Only way to get it back it to restart the phone. Some days i can go days before its lost, others it happens 4 times a day.
Im on ATT, phone is all stock and was bought new with JB, my wife also has the S3 ATT stock on JB, we both have the same issue.
Here is what ive tried...
1.) Hard reset and complete wipe.
2.) Clearing Maps, Cache and deleting/reisntalling Maps
3.) GPS Status App and clearing data
4.) Tighten screws on back cover thought to help gps antenna
5.) NV Rebuild
6.) Google location settings default and reset
Each one will reset the GPS, and some have made it work for a few days, but in the end, it always comes back. This is the same on my wifes S3.
Ive never done any custom roms or anthing, phone is all stock NO Root. I dont not want to do anything to the phone that requires anything like that.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Its driving me crazy!!

I thought that problem was from people whom upgraded from ICS to JB. Both our phones never had ICS installed, they had JB from the factory.
If both phones are new and have stock roms without root, why not go to an Att service center and get them replaced.
Stock phones from the carrier shouldn't have any issues like you described.

its unfortunate that you have to deal with this kind of stuff. especially after already having had them replaced.
really, though, it appears you only have 3 options:
- keep the phones and just keep doing the small fixes
- return them and see what your options are with the carrier
- flash stock in odin and see if that provides a permanent fix
i think you were wary of odin but there are stock/non-root firmware downloads here that you can use. this route would require you to backup your devices (save what you want to your computer).
i would then:
-boot into stock recovery and wipe data and cache
-pull battery, replace and immediately press vol down + home + power to enter download mode
-follow thread instructions to flash stock firmware but leave the auto reboot option in odin unticked
-after the success message, pull battery, replace and press vol up + home + power to enter recovery mode
-wipe data and cache again. reboot
let us know what you're thinking about doing

If that doesn't work...I dunno.
You will likely have to flash this again when you update the ROM. But no big deal. You can do it in recovery right after you flash the ROM update.

Upgrading official to 4.3

Upgrading official to 4.4

Hi,
So here's what I've done.
First Im pretty sure its related to the modem or radio? is it the same? I remember flashing a 4.3 rom from 4.2 and the network wasnt working so I had to flash a md5 modem.
Now I tried flashing official 4.2.2

If you have flashed official firmware then it is not radio/modem related. It would be hardware related. This is the reason I stay away from CM. It works perfect while you use it but once you go back to TW it causes conflicts for me most of the time. I have used GPS status and cleared the cached GPS data and downloaded the GPS data and it fixes itself within minutes. I also have at least 2 users that had your same issue use the app and followed the instructions and confirmed the method to be working. I believe that CM leaves remnants of the system that cause a conflict with any other system. I had a full wipe file in my extsd but deleted it somehow. I can't remember where I got it from but it does wonders. It wipes everything and prevents leftover crap from the previous ROM or system so there is no conflicts. For example there is a folder in my internal SD called wicked ROM that I cannot delete for the life of me! The only way that I could get rid of it would be going back to stock or flashing the full wipe zip that I no longer have because I lost it. Anyway I will try to find this zip and share with you and you can flash you ROM after. Hopefully it will work for ya.

I'm in the exact same boat as the op... And I've tried all the same steps to fix it (including the gps app) but with no luck. Only difference being that I'm not on CM. I'm on the 4.4.2 GE ROM (aosp)
Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks fellas
