Hi guys,
I'm a bit new to the galaxy S3, I'm not too familiar with most things. I rooted my phone a few weeks ago with ODIN. This was to try to get the Google Wallet to work. After numerous attempts, i gave up, and figured i would unroot my phone because of guarantee reasons. Today i went into recovery mode to wipe cache and davlik, then upon reboot, the phone stopped working. I would get the vibration, the Samsung logo, then the Galaxy S3 logo, but that's as far as it goes. I can also go back into recovery mode, and probably download mode.
I just downloaded TriangleAway to reset my flash counter, but that wasnt compatible with my phone. I also got mobile Odin, same result. I have the Videotron Galaxy S3 SGH-T999V. The only changes i have made were of the build.prop, which I have restored to its original state, though the phone still thinks its a Galaxy Nexus.
Any ideas of what i could do? I wouldn't mind wiping all my data and going back to how it was when i first bought it without the root.
Thanks guys
Forgive me if i am not in the proper section

Do i do this with the original android development section or just the android development? I cant find that tar file, so could you link me to it?
and isnt download mode using the volume down button?
I've heard about thus happening to phones without a stock rom, but not just rooting. You could try using Odin to flash a boot loader, kernel and rom. That should unbrick the phone. There are lengthy directions on xda for that. Let us know what happens, and good luck!

You have the T999v, be very careful with what firmware you grab. Look at sammobile.

Thanks a lot. So after i get the latest firmware, do I use it through recovery mode? or do I unzip the file and use the tar file inside with ODIN?
Also are these the only steps to do and that should work?
I will try this tonight since i'm at work now lol

Unzip and flash the .tar.md5 file with Odin. This will rewrite your system and other partitions.
After rebooting it can take a few minutes at the Samsung logo so just let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
If it gets to be much longer than that, hold power till it reboots and as soon as the screen goes off let go of power for a moment and immediately press and hold power, volume up and home. Then release when you see the blue text flash at the top of the screen. This should get you to recovery. Wipe cache, dalvik and factory reset then reboot again.
No guarantees itll fix your problem of course but this will give you a fresh, full stock system. So hopefully it does fix uou up.

Go to Play Store and try acquiring Titanium Backup. It can only be used if the user is rooted. Try using it and if it doesn't correspond then you're not rooted. If it does then you're still rooted. I also believe if you don't have Superuser or SuperSU on your phone, then you're not rooted since those two are the "gateway" between apps and system.
Dont worry. Youre not rooted anymore. Flashing that fw in odin rewrites the system and other partitions to be just like it would come out of the box. If you're still concerned about it look for the file "su" in /system/bin and /system/xbin. If its not there youre not rooted.

I wanted to try an AKOP ROM or two on my completely stock, never rooted Note 2 running the OTA UCALK7 update. I followed the guide here (flash the SU injected stock UCALJ2 image) to root and now my note gets stuck at the Samsung logo. I have tried the following:
Downloaded the completely stock UCALJ2 unrooted image and flashed via ODIN.
Tried flashing both stock and rooted ROMs on another computer using the stock USB cable.
Flashed CWM touch via ODIN after flashing rooted UCALJ2 image, it can boot to CWM but fails miserably most likely to the lack of root.
My guess is it's bricked because sammy closed the root hole in the UCALK7 update and flashing back to rooted UCALJ2 isn't enough to bypass the patched exploit. Is there an ODIN flashable complete UCALK7 image that I can try (I've looked to no end, all I can find are rooted zips flashable via CWM) or am I really up the creek?
Pull the battery.
Hold the Center Home Button + Vol Down + Power
Slide the battery in.
If you do this right you can get into odin before the Samsung logo. I just had the same problem because I flashed the wrong recovery. It worked for me.

Thanks - I actually figured that part out since my second post. The phone boots after the factory reset however I don't get phone/data service. I've since tried flashing the two AT&T modems I could find, atti317ucalj2modemfixed.zip and ATT K7 Modem - Baseband.zip. Neither resolve the issue.

Thanks but I can't even enter the network configuration settings - it tells me to insert a SIM. My SIM is in the phone.
I'm having other problems too which I think are partition related. Apps are acting funny, saying there isn't space on the phone (dropbox can't download anything, etc). I'm trying to get TriangleAway installed so I can just RMA it but I can't even download it to my phone. Also a CWM fix permissions fails even though I grant it root access.

I know what you're saying, I'm definitely using the right file and process. I'm a pretty seasoned veteran when it comes to rooting/odin/RSD/fastboot, etc. I've run custom ROMs on dozens of phones since the G1. What's happening to me is apparently not a common failure with the note 2 or GS3. Is there a PIT file available for the AT&T Note 2? I see one for the Verizon Note 2 but I wouldn't dare try to flash that.
There is a pit file around but I really don't think it's that.
And also just checking don't mean to insult ur intelligence but if u are using Odin it will be a .tar, if it's a recovery its I .zip

Yeah, it's a tar file I'm flashing through Odin, got it from SamsungUpdates: Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I317_ATT_1_20121005095854_bpaaavv07o.
I also tried flashing the stock ROM in deodex'd zip form after I got a custom recovery on there, still no dice. The non-functioning modem and lack of proper root/storage affects both Sammy and CM/AKOP based ROMs. I don't know about the modem part but I've seen weird things like this when the NAND starts going bad and things written to it don't "stick." I don't think that's the case here since it's only on its 4th or 5th flash. More than likely the latter problem is a file system issue. I have no idea about the radio.
I'm going to try and exchange it tomorrow. At least I got the flash count cleared and I'm back on a stock ROM (with the same problems).
I'm having some issues with my phone rebooting or powering off frequently, especially when I plug it into a charger. I don't think I have the power button issue. I suspect it is the battery (although the battery was replaced Oct 2012 at the sprint store) and have another on the way. I want to exhaust every possible option in testing, so I want to take my phone to off the shelf stock. I currently am running rooted sprint JB, and I am looking for a way to remove all user files on internal storage as well as the tweaks (have comadose installed and had kobridge before) just to make sure it is not from a bad flash. I know how to go back to stock unrooted GB27 with Nodata via ODIN, however I want to make sure ALL tweaks and user files are removed too. Ideas?

The only thing I can say is if you have a CWM recovery installed boot into it and wipe all storage areas with that, then use the ODIN one-click RESTORE version (not NODATA as RESTORE will wipe all user data from the phone). That's about the best I can do for you. I just did it the other day to my phone and it wiped literally everything from the device, including the custom boot-screen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191954
A slip of the tongue, I meant restore, not nodata. I can mobileodin el29 directboot. What should I do in CWM to ensure all internal storage, system data, and tweaks is completely wiped? I usually use JB format all x2 but that doesn't delete pictures etc, so I am assuming it's leaving possible conflicts from flashing roms
OK, I flashed el29 directboot to CWM, formatted EVERYTHING I had an option to in CWM, did a restore to stock unrooted but it still knew my wifi password when the phone powered on which makes me think not all the data had been reset...
Try stock recovery do a "factory reset"after that it should ask you for wifi password.

If you are rooted, use Mobile Odin Lite to flash a stock EL29 KERNEL (.tar). - I would highly suggest this particular way as it's how I do it and I've never had any issues doing it with Mobile Odin Lite. Mobile Odin Lite
If you're going to use CWM to flash the stock EL29 KERNEL, use the .zip version.
You could also always try the One-Click EL29 KERNEL, but I've never used a One-Click before so I can't help you on that process but I'd imagine it's the same as flashing the ROM with a One-Click.

After that just do a factory reset through the stock recovery. You should be all set after that.

I used mobile odin lite to flash EL29 directboot kernel. This allows the use of CWM after flashing the kernel. Once in CWM I formatted everything I could in CWM and formatted cache and dalvik. From there, I used a one click desktop ODIN to flash stock sprint unrooted. IAfter all this, I am still having issues with constant restarts. I replaced the battery and am still having the problem. I am unsure if this is software or I have a power button issue. Does anyone have any tips I can try?

Well, then I'd probably say it's a power button issue, but I've also heard of moisture in the charger port (not necessarily liquid damage, could just be moisture in the air) might cause random bootloops as well. Could be a number of things, but you've stamped out your issue from being software related (as far as I can see). Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
Depending on what stock ROM you want there's a one click you run through odin that's wipes the internal memory as well

Download that file, run it, put phone into recovery, plug phone into computer and press start once "COM" shows up on the one-click...the usual. When I use this, once the phone boots up I always just go into settings-->privacy-->restore phone and check format USB (that is if you want everything deleted off your SD card). I back everything up to my 64GB removable sd card before I do this.
Hope I helped!

I go back to ICS because, at least in my area, 4.1.2 JB has not gone OTA which, imo, you can't go wrong with it. It's stable and it's just what I do. I'll eventually switch to a stock JB build for a one-click restore, just not yet. I'm not living under a shell I know JB has gone official.

JB is not an area specific thing... You can only officially get it over the wire from Samsung's site or by using kies. They will not do it over the air. So no matter where you are in the world, JB is official for all three variants of the E4GT.
ICS is the worst thing to hit the E4GT and is not stable. You obviously do live under a shell if you think it is. IMO, CM10.1 is more stable.
So, let's try not to make poor excuses with completely wrong information when posting next time.

Yeah I gotchu maynee..no worries, I was just kinda posting what I do and I still don't really think running a ics one-click versus a 4.1.2 one-click is a hundred(s) dollar midtake. For some reason though I hadn't even thought about downloading a 4.1.2 one-click. probably a lot easier and hassle free?
Its not that it is a costly mistake, but it can be quite troublesome. I was saying that one should know every detail of something before posting. I have seen many a brick happen do to someone saying to do one thing that was completely wrong. So even if it has no potential of bricking you, take into account that it could just be wrong.
GB27 Is the best in terms of stock ROMs. People that say otherwise either don't know what they are talking about or it's horrible user error and misinformation.

The best thing to do is flash back to stock MG2(if you're on Boost/VM) or MD4 if you're on Sprint, via an Odin Tar. Before you do that, if you're rooted, run triangle away, then flash. That will wipe everything except your sd card, including root. There are tars of both floating around. Try android forums if you can't find them here. Good luck.

Use a full restore as it will crash constantly since you are coming off cm or aosp. Also remember you will need to be on md4 to flash back to custom once you diag. Is done so its kind of time saving just to Odin the MD4 1 click full restore then just go in.. BTW why are you going in for the diag any way? Don't worry about loading any apps other than what you'll use as I have had them full restore my phones to "fix it"

i can't use the one-click since I have a Mac, so I'm going to have to use Heimdall (always an adventure). I can't receive texts, and Sprint has no clue why, so they want me to have diagnostics run. It's really weird, i can make and receive calls, send and receives MMS, use my data to surf the web, etc. and even send texts, but I can't receive them.

Happened to me once when i was with att. Funny thing was it was caused by Verizon categorizing my number as a landline. I guess we uses so many of Verizon's towers that it completely screwed me up lol.

So I went in today (after trying yesterday, but the store wasn't servicing phones) and they have no idea what's wrong with it. Like no clue. So I'm just expected to pay my bill and not have full use of my phone

Hello XDA community, my brother has been having wi-fi and bluetooth issues on his T-MO Note II ever since applying the 4.3 OTA. Before I go on, the first thing I did was use CF-auto root and flash both agni pure stock and devil kernel and neither of them have worked. In addition, I have used dr.ketans patch as well as flashing some AOSP based ROMs such as AOKP and SlimKat and neither of them have yielded any results. I have tried almost everything I can find via XDA and I am truly stumped.
Do you guys have any solutions to the wifi issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :good:
Can you elaborate, what wifi issues ?
Frequent disconnects ?
Battery drains ?

Wi-fi wil not turn on whatsoever. I can press the icon to turn it on and it will slide to the on position greyed out, and then go back to off right away. The same for bluetooth as well.
If the phone was already on 4.3 then wifi patch was not needed.
I would advise to flash stock image and start fresh. Make sure to wipe dalvik-cache after flashing stock ROM.

Thanks, I will try that when I can. By any chance do you know where I can find a 4.3 image? I've tried looking into the stickies over at the Dev section and they don't have 4.3 as far as I can recall. The only 4.3 image I see is the stock root injected one from Mr.Robinson.
You can download one from sammobile.com. You will have to register though, make sure you download the file for sgh-t889.

Thank you very much. I will do that tomorrow as I do not have the device with me at the current moment. I will let you know how it goes!

Ah man, thanks! Unfortunately, I had just finished making an account at SamMobile not too long ago and the download should be finishing up soon. I greatly appreciate the help.

I just wanted to say thank you to both ciphercodes and Squilchi for all your help. My brother also says a big thanks as he doesn't have an account here. When the Note II finished rebooting from the image flash via Odin, I almost freaked out because nothing had seemingly changed but then I realized I was already on the 4.3 OTA. I also had an spectacular noob moment by forgetting to wipe cache in stock recovery. After I did that, I am glad to report that Wi-fi and bluetooth work as it's supposed to. I can't say thank you enough. In the odd occasion that this should happen again, a wipe of cache in stock recovery should be okay correct?

Glad to know issue was resolved. By default it's highly unlikely that these problems will return on a stock ROM but if they do then flashing back to stock is the most optimal solution.
Unfortunately I may have spoken too soon. Wi-Fi was working just fine for a bit but suddenly it can't connect to the network nor see any other networks. It can still turn on but connecting to remembered networks and seeing other networks are a no-go. Bluetooth is wonky as well. I'm starting to think it's hardware but I doubt it.

So close! Hmm it could be hardware I'm not sure either. What are the wifi settings? Also are there any error messages? Did you wipe data after Odin?

I have yet to wipe data since it seemed okay although the notion has been floating in my head. I did wipe cache and shortly after, it didn't work. I suggested unforgetting the network and adding it again and that seemed to work for a little while. No error messages, just the same slide to on greyed out and back to off.

Its weird that it was working and now its not wiping data couldnt hurt. Do you have Odin 3.0.9? Flash that tar file again and make sure bootloader update is checked.

Just a little update, I booted to stock recovery and performed a factory reset and wipe cache partitions but still nothing after it booted. To answer your question, I did use Odin 3.09 and it was already on MK7 prior to my first flash of the tar file in Odin. This is so frustrating.
Sorry for the double post, but I just did a factory reset and wipe cache and just re-flashed the tar file with update bootloader ticked and still a no-go. It's a shame the 4.3 update has borked my brother's Note II to this extent but it seems like the majority of people don't experience this. I'm stumped....

Prior to all this madness, I did try flashing JediMasterX2(I think) and AOKP, two ROMs that I would heavily associate with being stable and basically have everything work. Unfortunately, they didn't work. After all that went down and I restored my backed-up OTA all the way to now, it has been on MK7 stock kernel since then. I'm about to flip a table or something.
