Bell Mobility Network Problems? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Alright, I was wondering, I've been having some problems lately with the CM10 roms, and I switched back to the stock unrooted rom.
My problem was it was disconnecting me from the server every once in a while, had to reboot to reset the connection, now even when on the stock rom it does this, is this a Bell Mobility problem? Or a phone problem? I see I had to create a new APN with the Bell settings, but I really dont know why!
I was wondering, is this a network problem? Or a phone problem? I've had my phone for about a 1.5months and just the past couple days that it does this to me!
Thanks,
JP

I'm on Bell.
If it happens on stock ROM it's either hardware issue or Bell is having problems.
Yeah network connection is only good... 98% of the time in my experience with AOSP Rom's (including CM10). Sometimes it stops working altogether and I have to toggle flight mode a few times. I must have flashed AOSP Rom's about 50-60 times and each and every single time I have gotten literally double the latency I get on TW rom's regardless of which Modem I use. Other people do not seem to be having this issue, just people with Bell.

Thanks, seems like its back to normal with the stock ROM, so I might try another AOKP or AOSP rom... Which TW rom did you use?
So it's better with an AOSP rom or worst? Pardon my english, french is my primary language!

I recommend Task650's AOKP ROM.
But be aware all non touchwiz ROM's have some bugs currently. But they are smoother and faster, that's why I use them.

If you are looking for a TW rom, I have been using this one since it came out and don't have any serious issues with it.

Thanks, I know, I'll wait till they get some bugs out before making the switch again... Back on the stock rom and seems solid again.

I'll take a look at it, but it says for sprint?

Yah. But it works. And if you chk a lot of the roms, they're built on AT&T base and they also work fine on a Bell device.
My biggest issue (for me at least) with AOSP, AOKP and CM10 roms is that voice mail notification doesn't work. It's been a known issue for some time but it hasn't been fixed yet. I should qualify by saying I haven't run every single rom out there but anything built off CM10 seems to have this issue on Bell devices.

I can download the rom you posted and load it no problems? It's basically JB upgraded a bit? Can you post a screen shot of what it looks like? Have you had any bugs with it? Seems like the last update was on October 29th...
Thanks!

Also on all AOKP Rom's I can not receive MMS at all. Not sure if it worked on CM10
I triple checked APN every time I tested.

[Q] App Lag, Choppy Scrolling, Slow Loading Apps... Anyone else?

Hi All,
I have had my GSM GNEX for almost a month now and have already suffered from the weird bug of loosing signal for no reason after flashing any 4.0.3+ AOSP ROM ( I have a thread dedicated to this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487239 ) and I have to say that after using it for a while now, the performance is NOT what I was expecting.
Apps take WAY longer to load on my GNEX then they do on my SGSII both on H Data and on WIFI. Apps include Facebook, XDA Premium, etc...
Scrolling within these same (or any other) apps is very laggy and choppy compared to my SGSII and just general response of the apps is quite laggy compared to the same apps on my SGSII and again this is using both H Data or WIFI.
Has anyone else noticed this at all? If you think it may be ROM based then please see my signature for info.
Does this / Could this have anything to do with the "Force 2G rendering" option in the settings menu? I have not had it turned on since I got my GNEX...
Thanks...
I think you're experiencing the same compare/contrast that I am vs the SGSII. I think it comes down to the gpu (potential cpu as well) influence. My first impressions are that I'll get lag + choppiness when multitasking +/- what those tasks might be.
Also, widgets in the app drawer, forget about it, various kernels and ROMs and drawer lag is typically there with widgets in the drawer for me, at least from a "cold start".
That said, I'm much happier with my GN that I am with my I9100 despite the apparent hw advantages of the I9100.

Thanks for the reply... I don't have any widgets in my drawer nor do I really have many apps running simultaneously as I'm a bit OCD when it comes to closing apps that I am not using. I have turned on the "Force 2G rendering" option and it SEEMS to have made a SLIGHT difference (at least in my mind... lol).
Also... have you (or anyone) also noticed that the colours / screen on the GNEX just don't "POP" like they do on the SGSII? My colours (compared to my SGSII) just seem very "blah". Could this be due to the fact that the SGSII is SAMOLED + and the GNEX is only SAMOLED? Would it really make THAT much of a difference? Does the option on the SGSII for Standard, Dynamic and Movie really make that much of a difference?
I dont know could be causing this, but mine seems smooth like always. Maybe the SGS2 is just that much better? I dont use 2d rendering either as for me that makes thing laggy and choppy.
I'm using Leankernel 2.2 now and smoothness is great; it's posted in the CDMA dev forum, but is compatible with GSM as well.

That's the other thing about MY GNEX though. As I said... I had the weird bug with my device after flashing any AOSP 4.0.3+ ROM where I would randomly just lose signal ALL TOGETHER making the phone pretty much useless and the ONLY thing that I found that fixed the issue was using the FuGuMod Kernel so I am scared to try any other kernels.
Take a look at the link I posted in my first post for more info. Others have also experienced this bug(?).
Re: signal drop.
I haven't experienced it yet, although I only purchased the phone on Sunday, it was 4.0.3 20 minutes after buying however.

Mine was flashed to 4.0.3 too almost as quickly and the strange thing is that on Stock 4.0.1 AND on ARHD 4.0.2 ROMS the signal would not drop with the stock OR ROM included Kernels but as soon as I flashed to 4.0.3 the signal would drop like every 5 minutes and the only thing that fixed it was using the FuGuMod Kernel. I am using the UGKL1 radio as well since I am here in Canada and yes... I have tried like ALL the other radios and so far the UGKL1 seems to be the best.

I have to say that kernel is not responsible for signal loss it is your modem . You should also understand that flashing a rom can't change your modem, only if u flash it manually . So I advice you to visit modem collection topic and try several , the efficiency depends on mobile network you use , so I can't name the best for you. As for me UGKK7 works better than others .

Speaking about choppiness and lag ... I tried almost all kernels and roms and my verdict for performance hungry : use MoDaCo + Franco kernel 13 .1 or AOKP with the kernel mentioned above . You will be very impressed . But pay attention 13.1 version of kernel not the latest cuz this one is rock stable and very very smooth like nothing else

I know it sounds silly that a kernel seemed to fix the signal drop issue as I thought it was weird as well but if you look at my thread (link is in my first post) you will see that it is not ONLY me who has fixed this issue by using the FuGuMod Kernel. There are about 10 others who have posted the same success and some who have posted that OTHER Kernel/Radio/ROM combos have fixed their issues as well when NOTHING ELSE had worked.
In your case, I would go to the Samsung website, and download the stock firmware, and stick with that, just root it, and flash recovery (if it get's erased)
Then check if your problem maintains, if it does, relock bootloader, and send it back to Samsung (warranty) if not, then it's the ROM and/or kernel you had installed with the AOKP ROM...

I have a nandroid backup of my stock ROM rooted and with CWM and like I said... I do not lose connection while on stock ROM which for me is 4.0.1
I only started losing signal when I flashed ANY aosp 4.0.3+ ROMs until I flashed the FuGuMod Kernel which seems to have fixed the signal loss issue so unfortunately...
Sending it to Samsung for warranty wont do any good cause on stock there is no issue and if I send it back while on a custom ROM they will void my warranty so I'm kinda hooped either way...

Explain me some confusion please.. Sprint GNex

I love my Sprint Gnex, although service sucks. Anyways, I'm confused....
Do I need to upgrade the kernel to do a JB rom? Also, is there a CM10 for Sprint GNex? I'm running the CM9 and I love it. I'm confused with all the different versions I'm seeing and stuff like that and want to make sure that I install the right one so that I can install and let it go.
I did try the are you jellin, and I didn't think it ran too smooth on my phone, so I reverted back to the CM9.
Thanks.

ROM's usually come with a compatible kernel (ie if its a JB rom it'll have a JB kernel, whether it's stock or dev made is another story) so you won't need to.
If you want JB fast and install and forget, stock is the only option. Everything else is still early days for JB custom ROM's as for example, CM10 is still getting stuff merged to it from CM9 and not long ago CM10 was just JB + CM apps, no custom stuff.
Also if you had previously tried a JB rom and it wasn't obviously smooth you probably messed up somewhere (perhaps installing an ICS kernel??)
Next time try putting your question (simplified to fit) in the subject box. It is a pain to click on a thread to know what the question is (how would we know if we could answer it?) and I suspect it is also the reason why I'm the first to reply.

Ok thank you. I haven't changed any kernals or anything like that. I pretty much just downloaded it and installed it as is. It ran and stuff like that and was pretty cool, but I had a decent amount of FC's and Google Talk wouldn't open for the love of God. The GPS also became pretty inaccurate as I use My Tracks for running on a near daily basis and the inaccuracies with the GPS and timing really couldn't work for me. That was on the Jellin rom.
Where can I find the CM10 version? Or are you saying that its a work in process yet? Just wanted to clarify?
Thanks for help. I'll edit subject if it let me.
It was probably the ROM then. If you really want to try jellybean flash bigxie's (I think that works on CDMA)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771534 This is for GSM, I'm not sure if it works on CDMA but there's probably one in the Sprint Dev forums. CM10 is still a work in progress though, some customisations from CM9 will not be there but will be coming soon. To be 100% clear, if you can't live without CM9 stuff, wait a little longer for CM10/AOKP/ETC JB. They're still porting stuff from ICS over.

It will work on CDMA, but you will have to flash its CDMA equalivalent.
DO NOT FLASH MAGURO....
VZW = toro
Sprint = toroplus.... so OP would want toroplus.
Download Link: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=toroplus
Gapps: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=gapps
Most of the features are in CM10 atm... looking at my phone. I have,
- Lock screen customizations
- Status bar tweaks (battery, time)
- Notification widgets
- Volume rocker wake
......... etc.
Navigation bar feature needs to be added in.
One of my big things is the data roaming... CM9 gave me more data roaming features. I live in Mexico, but work in San Diego. Sprint sucks in South San Diego by the 5 (and in Tijuana, Mexico) so I domestically roam on Verizon (I presume). But with stock, when the phone would switch from Sprint to Domestic Roaming to International, there is a little lag with the cut off, hence my average int roaming data bill is like $30 extra bucks a month since the phone was released (for the end of May it was like $15 and June was $33). With CM9, I had more control and was able to open up Domestic Roaming and keep the Int Roaming off.... It also had a better handling of the switching of the service providers on the hand offs as my average bill running CM 9 is about $8 this month.
That's another reason I like the CM9, seems like the best ROM to handle my situation... Sprint sucks. If I wasn't on a 3rd party plan for $30 a month I'd be on Verizon in a heartbeat.
I had the Epic 4G prior to this phone and never had any INT Data Charges.... Only with Nexus.

I all ready installed... lol Fun, isn't it? So I got a question then... If I pay for the ROM Manager, will that let me seamlessly update the app?
Also, I can confirm that the latest build of CM10 does not have the Data Roaming features that the CM9 has had. It seems to be running smoothly as of right now, but cutting down on Int Roaming is huge for me.... Don't tell nobody (ha ha) but I got a Sprint Airave running at my house in Mexico and it works fine.... just traveling between my house and the USA is where I get the data charges from. I wish they would work on putting two features in...
1. Domestic Data Roaming Control
2. International Data Roaming Control
Remember, its not like I'm in deep in Mexico. I'm along the border, so constantly in and out of service and thats why I need those separate controls that most people wouldn't need because you are either international or you aren't.

[Q] Low And Slow Cellular Signal With CM10.0.0 Rom

I have a Samsung GS3 AT&T version with CM10.0.0 ROM.
I noticed that since I flashed 10.0 ROM, the cellular signal level seems always low, most of time, only 2 or 3. but with original stock rom, it shows at least 4 bars most of the time. Another problem I have experienced is that the cellular signal gets lost from time to time and it takes quite a while (at least a few seconds) to regain the connection.
One last problem is there is no LTE signal since 10.0 ROM. I believe this might be an known issue already. Is this true? Has anybody experienced the similar problems as I stated in above? Any solutions? Or I'd expect these issues will be fixed in the upcoming 10.1 ROM?
Thanks!

Flash many nightlies and even the stable ROM and more often than not I'd have the same problem as you and that's a huge battery killer. CM hasn't been verybstae in reference to data connection even with their stable release its still been a problem for me and a few others that I know whom tried running it all in separate carriers. Try a different cm10 based ROM in the original android development section. There are dozens that are great fast and stable with no data issues.

Sound problem

Hello,
I've got recently this phone and I kind of like it. The only reason was the qwerty keyboard.
The biggest problem I have with this phone is the sound. Every messenger app (skype, yahoo, viber etc) has the same problem. The receiving sound is slow and ununderstandable.
The current ROM installed CM 10.1 Kernel 3.1.10 android 4.2.2
I am a newbie in installing ROMs, but if I could I'd go straight to android 2.3.5
CM 10.1 is very laggy, with lots of problems (missing calls, GPS connectivity, maps, performance etc).
Anyone had this problem and solved it?
Thank you
P.s. I searched in the forum about this issue, but didn't have much luck.
Whos CM 10.1 are you using? Also CM 10.1 is no longer being updated,I suggest you use CM 10.2 by Bubor or a 4.3+ ROM
If you need more help please post back
The sound issue is with voice recording, any action with VoIP, dictaphone, voice dialing etc. will make sound playback distorted for some time. This issue exist in any ROM after stock ICS, so if this is very important for you, you'd better stay with stock. Here's the link: Stock UCLJ3.
If you wish a newer ROM, such as CM 10.1.3 or CM 11, there is workaround with VoIP sound called Tinyalsa stack, but it broke GSM call receiving sound. You can look here.
Also, I should say that CM 10.1.3 and CM 11 I linked have almost no issues beside this VoIP. GPS working great, no missing calls, no reboots, great performance and no battery draining. But I recommend to try and find what will suit you best.

Hello,
Yes I use skype calling a lot, I need this feature working. So you are suggesting me to install the android 4 stock version from samsung, but from what I red, there is an issue with the qwerty keyboard light. If this is true, it confirms my first idea to go with android 2.3.5
Thank you for your replies!
Samsung fixed the keyboard issue and a lot of other stuff in their 2nd release of stock ice. If you see those types of complaints, they are from the first revision.
I'm running stock and the only two issues I have is general UI laggieness (which is expected since its stock with bloat and not really optimized, also running on an older phone with no project butter). Along with messaging notifications failing to make any noise at random. I'll get a new text message and the screen will light up, but doesn't viberate or make a sound at random. Incoming calls still ring just fine though.
Other than those two issues (lag really isn't an issue for me), stock works just fine for me.

Yes, I recommend to install stock 4.0.4, it's the best way I know to have working GSM and Skype calling at the same time without needing to switch alsas stacks. j.asir here using new CM with tinyalsa fix and terminal shortcut - that's a bit inconvenient, but at this time there's no better way to go if you wish to have newest android and skype calls.
I newer tried 2.3.5 ROM on this phone, so I can't comment anything about it. If you try vanilla 2.3.5, please write about the results!

Hi @Makshow, have you considered using a 2.3.5 ROM? I have considered the possibility of doing so as I've heard that our device running GB has no issues at all... or so I've heard, but I honestly haven't had the time to test it. I was considering the possibility of using Inception (Back in black), but the download links are not available. If my Glide would work smooth and with no issues with GB I'd be glad to use it. If you decide to go for a GB ROM could you please provide me with some feedback? I would really appreciate it if you do so. I am not so cool with using ICS as stock is very battery & RAM consuming. And I was not so convinced using Litekernel or literom. Literom is really cool, but it has some issues and glitches that I found very disturbing. If you do go for GB please provide me with some feedback :highfive: Regards
I got this phone with new ROM already installed, so I won't try flashing 2.3.5 GB Android, I have no experience with this at all. Sorry. And I doubt that there weren't any issue with GB, one can search older posts in these forums and see that there were many bugs and bloat and troubles.
As for working download link for INC3PTION 2.3.5 ROM, there is one from Androide3 here. You can try it.

Hello @Androide3, thank you for your response. How long have you been using it? Have you had any issues? Is your battery life good? How about RAM usage?
BTW is there a specific method to install this ROM? I ask since I have never used GB. My phone came with ICS already
Thanks for details given in this thread.
Where can I find the stock android 4.0.4 second version?
An other quick question (I know this is an off topic question), is the samsunng galaxy s i9000 battery the same with the i927 batter?
Thank you

Hi, I hope this is what you're looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994902
I read in some other post, do not remember where lol, but I saw at least 3 different persons that were using the i9000 battery for the Glide, which has 1800mAh capacity I believe :good:

This custom rom Sh*t is very annoying. I can't get rid of this crappy cyanogenmod rom
Wasted almost a day reading pointless posts all over the internet and still nothing clear on how to go back to official samsung stock android.
I'm going to get this phone to the service!

Listen may i know it got really annoying with the sound.. but we have a fix now...
its a third party app which you can use.. its very easy to use and one time setup only
just get any kitkat rom..
its stable and only stops working if the app gets killed but otherwise i have tested it extesively
try it out and i would suggest omnirom to you if u prefer simplicity.

Finally I did it!
Finally I did it!
Ok, it was very easy and I feel kind of stupid  but as for the first time I'm still proud.
The major problem I couldn't install the stock rom was because of twrp. I had a old version, 2.4 I believe.
I managed to over install cwm v 6.whatever which was compatible with i927 and re-tried to install the stock rom and IT WORKED!
The stock rom is great! the phone is much much much quicker than with cm10.2. All features work! skype calls, voice recording, map, camera rotation, etc. Will see if I will lose any missed call.
The problem, I'm facing now is the sd card and internal memory which were inverted during cm10.2, but I am sorting things out.
I'm a bit disappointed that I lost all the installed apps with cm10.2. and I can not re-install them again. I have only the option to update it which won't work. Any idea?

[Q] Anyone still on Gingerbread? Which ROM is your daily

Hi everyone, I just created this thread as I would like to know who is still on GB 2.3.x. Which ROM (GB) are you using, what are the current bugs or issues? I am asking since I got my Glide with ICS 4.0.4. After some research I came here looking for some answers and procedures on rooting & flashing. Found exactly what I was looking for, thanks to you all btw. Got bored of ICS as it used too much RAM & battery, tried LiteRom, had some issues, then came back to sock rooted, was not convinced. Started using some JB ROMS, issues. KitKat... issues. I want to start using a GB ROM, but I would really like some feedback form experienced users in what are the pro's & con's for GB, as I am aware that there's a lot of apps not compatible with this O.S. I would appreciate some advice from you guys! Thanks in advance
Wow... No one is using GB anymore? LOL... Just wanted to try it out, but I have only received some feedback from Androide3 using Osimod. Well... I guess I'll give it a shot sometime
GB Rogers Stock

Oh cool. Still in stock, how's everything going with your Glide? For rooting GB follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082 Make sure you read it at least 3 times, to make sure you got it. There's also this updated guide on installing ROMs & ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623635 :good:

Hi
even if I cannot help you regarding a pro/contra list for GB I'm interested in what your issues were in LiteROM? I'm currently developing a fork based on it because I also had issues - maybe I had the same and therefore solved already
And if so you may not need a pro/contra list anymore

Thanks for your reply ... I used it for a long time, I actually had some issues with the toggles turning on automatically, like gps, wifi and data... Camera will shut down the phone if less than 25% charge, if im not mistaken... Weird FC´s. Other issues I honestly do not remember. I was using ROMs based on KK4.4 like cr droid pac and CM11. But I went back to stock as I wanted a fully functional phone. Rooted, deleted all AT&T bloat. Did some tweaks, and so far so good. I never got used to the idea of GB as for now is way too old...

Hm never had a camera crash but in LiteROM you have the choice of 3 different camera apps maybe I use another one than you had. The toggle thing sounds more interesting because I can't remember that I saw that before! So you want to say that e.g. GPS is turning on automatically?

Oh hell no! Just saw your ROM post in General! Go read it LOL
My Glide has been in a drawer for over a year and I recently decided to try using it again. It's still on GB, rooted and unlocked. I ended up putting it back in the drawer, mainly because quite a few of my apps complained about not having ICS or above.
I would like to update it to a newer, stable, close-as-possible-to-stock ROM when I have time.
I have been using stock ICS 4.0.4 the last 3 weeks, I really have nothing to complain as I did some mods over the stock rom, mostly uninstalling all the att crap, and some unnecesary apps like gmail & google + running in the background consuming lots of resources. So far it has been great, plus I havent had battery issues. It will last the entire day, without a heavy usage of course. Currently waiting for the release of sedirom to try it out as Im getting used to the ol ICS as it is really stable, as if not 100% stable. Has anyone used Xposed with stock ICS? If you have, please let me know which mods have you done with it.

Had my wife on Stock until upgrading to ICS 4.04. Was a bit flaky and upgraded to KitKat. I can definitely say the looks of KK is much better but it sure was more stable on stock. Biggest issues tended to be BlueTooth as we continued upgrading..

I actually used Bubor´s CM11 with KitKat 4.4.2 & 4.4.3. It really is smooth and I really liked it, but I just like my phone with no issues at all, so I went back to stock ICS. Which Rom are you using for kitkat?

Using Bubor's OmniRom 4.4.4.... When we connect it to the car via Bluetooth (after deleting pairing, etc.) it still isn't working... On ICS 4.04 Bluetooth worked fine most of the time, but kept dropping ever so often. My wife's Fitbit Flex wouldn't connect either. Ironically, it does on 4.4.4....
Love my glide
from a hardware perspective I love my glide. I don't really want to upgrade to a new phone, but I have had several annoyances on it. One of them is the Google maps not working with Ice Cream Sandwich. Other annoyances too. I tired the KitKat rom here, and it's very good, but I was trying to get all of the google apps on and I hit a wall with the partition size. Seemed fixable but was driving me nuts. Not sure which direction I should go now.
