I love my Sprint Gnex, although service sucks. Anyways, I'm confused....
Do I need to upgrade the kernel to do a JB rom? Also, is there a CM10 for Sprint GNex? I'm running the CM9 and I love it. I'm confused with all the different versions I'm seeing and stuff like that and want to make sure that I install the right one so that I can install and let it go.
I did try the are you jellin, and I didn't think it ran too smooth on my phone, so I reverted back to the CM9.
Thanks.

ROM's usually come with a compatible kernel (ie if its a JB rom it'll have a JB kernel, whether it's stock or dev made is another story) so you won't need to.
If you want JB fast and install and forget, stock is the only option. Everything else is still early days for JB custom ROM's as for example, CM10 is still getting stuff merged to it from CM9 and not long ago CM10 was just JB + CM apps, no custom stuff.
Also if you had previously tried a JB rom and it wasn't obviously smooth you probably messed up somewhere (perhaps installing an ICS kernel??)
Next time try putting your question (simplified to fit) in the subject box. It is a pain to click on a thread to know what the question is (how would we know if we could answer it?) and I suspect it is also the reason why I'm the first to reply.

Ok thank you. I haven't changed any kernals or anything like that. I pretty much just downloaded it and installed it as is. It ran and stuff like that and was pretty cool, but I had a decent amount of FC's and Google Talk wouldn't open for the love of God. The GPS also became pretty inaccurate as I use My Tracks for running on a near daily basis and the inaccuracies with the GPS and timing really couldn't work for me. That was on the Jellin rom.
Where can I find the CM10 version? Or are you saying that its a work in process yet? Just wanted to clarify?
Thanks for help. I'll edit subject if it let me.
It was probably the ROM then. If you really want to try jellybean flash bigxie's (I think that works on CDMA)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771534 This is for GSM, I'm not sure if it works on CDMA but there's probably one in the Sprint Dev forums. CM10 is still a work in progress though, some customisations from CM9 will not be there but will be coming soon. To be 100% clear, if you can't live without CM9 stuff, wait a little longer for CM10/AOKP/ETC JB. They're still porting stuff from ICS over.

It will work on CDMA, but you will have to flash its CDMA equalivalent.
DO NOT FLASH MAGURO....
VZW = toro
Sprint = toroplus.... so OP would want toroplus.
Download Link: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=toroplus
Gapps: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm10&device=gapps
Most of the features are in CM10 atm... looking at my phone. I have,
- Lock screen customizations
- Status bar tweaks (battery, time)
- Notification widgets
- Volume rocker wake
......... etc.
Navigation bar feature needs to be added in.
One of my big things is the data roaming... CM9 gave me more data roaming features. I live in Mexico, but work in San Diego. Sprint sucks in South San Diego by the 5 (and in Tijuana, Mexico) so I domestically roam on Verizon (I presume). But with stock, when the phone would switch from Sprint to Domestic Roaming to International, there is a little lag with the cut off, hence my average int roaming data bill is like $30 extra bucks a month since the phone was released (for the end of May it was like $15 and June was $33). With CM9, I had more control and was able to open up Domestic Roaming and keep the Int Roaming off.... It also had a better handling of the switching of the service providers on the hand offs as my average bill running CM 9 is about $8 this month.
That's another reason I like the CM9, seems like the best ROM to handle my situation... Sprint sucks. If I wasn't on a 3rd party plan for $30 a month I'd be on Verizon in a heartbeat.
I had the Epic 4G prior to this phone and never had any INT Data Charges.... Only with Nexus.

I all ready installed... lol Fun, isn't it? So I got a question then... If I pay for the ROM Manager, will that let me seamlessly update the app?
Also, I can confirm that the latest build of CM10 does not have the Data Roaming features that the CM9 has had. It seems to be running smoothly as of right now, but cutting down on Int Roaming is huge for me.... Don't tell nobody (ha ha) but I got a Sprint Airave running at my house in Mexico and it works fine.... just traveling between my house and the USA is where I get the data charges from. I wish they would work on putting two features in...
1. Domestic Data Roaming Control
2. International Data Roaming Control
Remember, its not like I'm in deep in Mexico. I'm along the border, so constantly in and out of service and thats why I need those separate controls that most people wouldn't need because you are either international or you aren't.

realizing the "official" ICS update may never come (at least for a long time), I have played around with a few ROMs so far - both ICS-based and GB. For some reason, each and every ROM I have tried offers some kind of glitch - at least on my phone - sometimes the phone won't boot back up, some ROMS won't connect to certain T-Mobile services, etc.
While I certainly realize that the DEVs work feverishly to cook these things (which I definitely appreciate), does anyone out there have any recommendations for a pretty solid ICS ROM for the T989?
I have been on Darkside Beta 5 for over a week, in my opinion it is very stable, no call echo and the rotation is clean. There is the Wi-fi issue, but then again every ROM has that problem.
Everyone will have different opinion's but it is my preferred ROM.
Darkside UCLE2 Beta 6 is the least buggy out of all of them from what I have experienced. If u want GB then Digital Warfare is by far the best for battery and overall smooth operations. Since I use my GS2 for work day in and day out - I prefer to just run Digital Warfare 2.7..
Beta 6 like the last guy said. We'll get official sometime, but it won't be as good as tdj's
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yes DARKSIDE.UCLE2::[BETA06] soon to be 7 install today with Blaze radio nothing went wrong and even tried that lc8 just for fun both work where i live can turn 4g on and off fast nice even install S voice from the Gs3

Official ICS is coming in 9 days bro, be careful saying "never"
I have been looking for a couple of weeks, but I can't find anything that is just this. I don't know much about development, so I wouldn't know how to take what someone else has done and modify it to how I want.
Basically, I am wanting a Paranoid Android soft key area. I want to get rid of the nav bar up top and move my clock, battery, signal, wifi, etc. to the bottom with the soft keys. That is the only change I really want to make.
I know that this is one of the premier features of Paranoid Android, but it is my understanding that PA for JB is based on CM10 and still has a lot of bugs to flesh out, especially on the CDMA/Toro version. Also, I do not know enough to figure out the tablet mode, hybrid mode, and regular mode stuff, especially since some of it is done in ADB (again, my understanding of it, I could be wrong).
Is it possible to do only what I described without flashing to PA for JB? I feel like some of the modifications I have seen posted in this forum come close to this, but the ones I remember off the top of my head move only the clock to the bottom.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
May I ask, why you dont want to flash PA? what bugs are keeping you from flashing?
I am currently running it and there are no real bugs, that irritate me (I dont use bluetooth^^)
And since a new build will be coming very soon even the toro devices should be fine aswell.

I will definitely flash PA in the future, I would just prefer to wait until all the bugs are kicked.
First, I need to be able to be reached on my phone all day and by email (which I check 95% of on my phone) at all times. Apparently there is a problem with gmail on PA right now, as well as other smaller bugs. While I can't name any specifically that I remember, I do know the developer himself is calling it very alpha. While I love the developer-made ROMs, I also need stability, at least until the summer is over and I'm back in school.
Second, it is my understanding (I love that saying, obviously) that you have to do a full wipe each time you flash a new version of any CM-based ROM. Because I hate having to re-download and re-log into all of my apps (especially ones that need credit card numbers), I usually stay on stable ROMs that allow me to dirty flash when newer versions are released. I know there are ways around this, but I don't know enough to get around it at the moment nor do I have time to learn how to do it until school starts back up.

Thanks for the info. I just sent you a PM regarding some of what I said, but I sent it before seeing this reply. I may try to jump on PA tonight if it is working better.
Alright, I was wondering, I've been having some problems lately with the CM10 roms, and I switched back to the stock unrooted rom.
My problem was it was disconnecting me from the server every once in a while, had to reboot to reset the connection, now even when on the stock rom it does this, is this a Bell Mobility problem? Or a phone problem? I see I had to create a new APN with the Bell settings, but I really dont know why!
I was wondering, is this a network problem? Or a phone problem? I've had my phone for about a 1.5months and just the past couple days that it does this to me!
Thanks,
JP
I'm on Bell.
If it happens on stock ROM it's either hardware issue or Bell is having problems.
Yeah network connection is only good... 98% of the time in my experience with AOSP Rom's (including CM10). Sometimes it stops working altogether and I have to toggle flight mode a few times. I must have flashed AOSP Rom's about 50-60 times and each and every single time I have gotten literally double the latency I get on TW rom's regardless of which Modem I use. Other people do not seem to be having this issue, just people with Bell.

So it's better with an AOSP rom or worst? Pardon my english, french is my primary language!

I recommend Task650's AOKP ROM.
But be aware all non touchwiz ROM's have some bugs currently. But they are smoother and faster, that's why I use them.
If you are looking for a TW rom, I have been using this one since it came out and don't have any serious issues with it.

Yah. But it works. And if you chk a lot of the roms, they're built on AT&T base and they also work fine on a Bell device.
My biggest issue (for me at least) with AOSP, AOKP and CM10 roms is that voice mail notification doesn't work. It's been a known issue for some time but it hasn't been fixed yet. I should qualify by saying I haven't run every single rom out there but anything built off CM10 seems to have this issue on Bell devices.

I can download the rom you posted and load it no problems? It's basically JB upgraded a bit? Can you post a screen shot of what it looks like? Have you had any bugs with it? Seems like the last update was on October 29th...

I triple checked APN every time I tested.
Hey there. I bought my wife a GS3 for T-Mo off of Craigslist, and it has an AOKP jellybean ROM on it. I personally like the ROM, but my wife complains about certain bugs, and doesn't use much (if any) of the customization features.
I don't want to flash it back to stock as I think Samsungs interface is junk.
Can anyone please recommend a very simple, relatively bug free custom ROM to flash?
Thanks for the help!
what type of "custom" "bug free" rom, like no TouchWiz? look at my signature there is a resource guide I have created. What are the bugs she doesn't like maybe we can eliminate them, or you can update her phone so she doesn't have them...
I tried a few then ended up on this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750270
The reason I've stayed with it is I haven't had any problems and I can use Nova launcher with it.
Once I find out which Jelly Bean ROM will work well with PDroid, I will switch to that.
@OP, if you can turn this into a "Let's fix my wife's phone issues" thread, I'll leave it open. If it stays as a Best ROM thread then it'll get locked (they always turn into "whip it out and see who's is better" threads).
Like mt3g said, what issues is she having? Also like he said, go to the Bible (stuck in the General section) and you'll get a good synopsis of what is going on around the Development section.
Wives can be a tricky bunch. Mine is running a custom AOSP on her SGS2 that I tweaked out myself. While it is 99% stable, she'll find that 1% wrong and I'll fix it and move on to another issue. Sometimes for fun, I take a bootanimation.zip and load into her /data/local and the next time she reboots, it throws her off a bit. Now she is pretty savvy at all this, so I usually get a text shortly after. One time I put a screen shot of my SGS3 on her wall and moved all her icons to another page. That one really messed her head up. She screws with my tablet when I am not home, so she knows how the game works.
What I am saying is that you/we can probably solve most of her issues if you let us know what they are.

Yeah...I didn't mean to start a "best ROM" thread as I know how annoying those can be. I understand that some ROM's can be a bit buggy, and thats a trade off most of us are willing to live with to have the latest features and customizations. To better rephrase my question, I am not looking for the "most stable" ROM. I'm looking for any option, whether it be tweeking some settings, or flashing a new ROM. My wife is completely phone illiterate compared to most of us on this website. She uses all the features on her phone, but thats it. She loves AOKP because she can make her font pink...lol.
The main three issues she has are below.
1. Turns off randomly on its own
2. When she hits the power button to wake up the phone, the light up haptic buttons at the bottom of the the phone light up, but the screen doesn't go on. At this point she is forced to pull the battery to restart the phone and get the screen working.
3. Phone freezes quite often

I would suggest wiping phone and or maybe installing a different rom/ kernel combo... that all sounds like a kernel issue. Get her phone and go to Settings>about phone> and tell me android version, Kernel Version, AOKP Version.
She can have her font pink on a stock based rom as well... does she use BlueTooth?
If not I suggest updating to the latest of Mike's rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037028 it is 4.2.1 it is mostly Cm-10.1, but with his and DjIntrigue's cherry picks and little fixes here and there. They're switching to AOKP for the most part on Friday with a new release.
Android Version: 4.1.1
Kernel: 3.0.43-cyanogenmod-faux123-att-tmo-g43de6e3 [email protected]) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 1 02:39:01 CEST 2012
AOKP Version: aokp_d2tmo_jb_build-4
If I flash to a new ROM would you recommend trying a different kernel?
Thanks for the help!
I recommend not try a new kernel mostly. If all else fails go to a stock based ROM TouchWiz isn't too bad. I prefer aosp based roms but not all phones are created equal. Yours not liking the kernel can more then likely be fixed by raising the deep sleep MHz but that'll result in not so great battery life.

Hey there!
i'm pretty new to modding android and recently got an A101 from a colleague - i think still one of the two best devices in the 7" format with only the Huawei Medipad providing the same functionality.
Anyway, i'd love to try something new and am already rooted with ZeroNull's method wich worked like a charm. Now that i've read many threads in this forum the past week i'm a little bit concerned about some things. First of all, when i'm in stock recovery my power button isn't working, so i cannot make any input besides selecting the menu-entries. Is it likely the case, that i would be facing this issue when installing a custom recovery? Since TWRP has a touch gui i shoudn't be aware of this, right?
Further A101 specific questions i wanne be 100% sure of, since there's no A101-Forum:
- i'm fine with installing bootloaders like TWRP or CWM made for the A100?
- aswell ZeroNull's unlock bootloader method?
- which custom ROM's do support 3G? I'm thinking about pio_masaki's Jellytime Sosei, his CM10 build, or KEBBERSROM...(?)
rather an ubuntu related question:
Am i fine with installing the packages: android-tools-adb & android-tools-fastboot or do i need the full - Android-SDK?
The most important thing for me is to get rid of acers bloadware, so i'm planning to install TWRP followed by a nandroid backup and kiling them softly *fingerscrossed*

Cwm and twrp are recoveries, not boot loaders, and are fine for the 101, no worries there. Everything for the a100 works for the 101 except the Roms, a100 ROMs on a101 kills 3g. You lose 3g, period. Cm10.1 I had some experimental 3g stuff in there but I never heard back on that.
Maybe I'll see about adding it to cm10.

Thats too bad to hear but i was expecting this. Just thaught that CM10 could have 3G functionality since some friends are using cyanogen on their phones. And since Sosei lacks of GPS it's not an alternative for me either. After all i convinced my wife to buy the a101, so that we can use it as navigation aswell ;P
well well, i really would appreciate the 3G Feature in your CM10, but i dont wanne hassle so - just if you have time for it of cause.
greetings and thanks so far

It can have 3g just fine, I've asked a few times for the 3g ril files from 101 users wanting me to build for them, they always vanish and I never hear back about it.
A100 just had its rotation for builds last night / this morning so it'll come up again sometime between wed-fri I think. Been looking at updating the black bean build and maybe adding AOKP as well, I'll use them for testbeds. I may go ahead and just do an extra day on the A100 and see about getting a potential 3g build up for you.
Side note, sosei will use gps if you use the newer cm10 boot.img.
Current rotation is:
Nexus 7 holds priority as I've been invited to Team Sorcery as their N7 dev.
Toshiba Thrive 4.2 development, 4.1.2 updates and kernel work (voodoo sound) comes second as they've been extremely generous to me.
Droid DNA aosp porting as the device was pretty much donated
Slight GNex work as needed, rare
A100 is bottom/last as I don't own one, luckily fixes from the thrive usually directly move over to the A100
Other devices I don't own.
I have a few things planned for the A100 for some nice updates and releases to jeep you guys in a variety of ROMs, like AOKP and some updates to the cm9 kernel I use.

thats of cause comprehensible, since these iconias are quite old, right. And if i didnt needed the (3g)/hdmi (looking forward for ubuntu for android) i guess i would have baught an Nexus 7 aswell. However, in two weeks i got an exam and i'm investing way too much time right now in reading about all that stuff here so if you could direct me were to read about this 3g ril files or tell me how i can find them on the mashine i'll send it to you. I've read something about the build.prob but no mentions about 3g, cellular or ril or whatsoever in it. Also a "find" gave me nothing.
Unfortunately i have to read some annoying §&"/%§ now but i've set up the email notification now.
