Sound problem - Samsung Captivate Glide

Hello,
I've got recently this phone and I kind of like it. The only reason was the qwerty keyboard.
The biggest problem I have with this phone is the sound. Every messenger app (skype, yahoo, viber etc) has the same problem. The receiving sound is slow and ununderstandable.
The current ROM installed CM 10.1 Kernel 3.1.10 android 4.2.2
I am a newbie in installing ROMs, but if I could I'd go straight to android 2.3.5
CM 10.1 is very laggy, with lots of problems (missing calls, GPS connectivity, maps, performance etc).
Anyone had this problem and solved it?
Thank you
P.s. I searched in the forum about this issue, but didn't have much luck.

Whos CM 10.1 are you using? Also CM 10.1 is no longer being updated,I suggest you use CM 10.2 by Bubor or a 4.3+ ROM
If you need more help please post back

The sound issue is with voice recording, any action with VoIP, dictaphone, voice dialing etc. will make sound playback distorted for some time. This issue exist in any ROM after stock ICS, so if this is very important for you, you'd better stay with stock. Here's the link: Stock UCLJ3.
If you wish a newer ROM, such as CM 10.1.3 or CM 11, there is workaround with VoIP sound called Tinyalsa stack, but it broke GSM call receiving sound. You can look here.
Also, I should say that CM 10.1.3 and CM 11 I linked have almost no issues beside this VoIP. GPS working great, no missing calls, no reboots, great performance and no battery draining. But I recommend to try and find what will suit you best.

Hello,
Yes I use skype calling a lot, I need this feature working. So you are suggesting me to install the android 4 stock version from samsung, but from what I red, there is an issue with the qwerty keyboard light. If this is true, it confirms my first idea to go with android 2.3.5
Thank you for your replies!

Samsung fixed the keyboard issue and a lot of other stuff in their 2nd release of stock ice. If you see those types of complaints, they are from the first revision.
I'm running stock and the only two issues I have is general UI laggieness (which is expected since its stock with bloat and not really optimized, also running on an older phone with no project butter). Along with messaging notifications failing to make any noise at random. I'll get a new text message and the screen will light up, but doesn't viberate or make a sound at random. Incoming calls still ring just fine though.
Other than those two issues (lag really isn't an issue for me), stock works just fine for me.

Yes, I recommend to install stock 4.0.4, it's the best way I know to have working GSM and Skype calling at the same time without needing to switch alsas stacks. j.asir here using new CM with tinyalsa fix and terminal shortcut - that's a bit inconvenient, but at this time there's no better way to go if you wish to have newest android and skype calls.
I newer tried 2.3.5 ROM on this phone, so I can't comment anything about it. If you try vanilla 2.3.5, please write about the results!

Hi @Makshow, have you considered using a 2.3.5 ROM? I have considered the possibility of doing so as I've heard that our device running GB has no issues at all... or so I've heard, but I honestly haven't had the time to test it. I was considering the possibility of using Inception (Back in black), but the download links are not available. If my Glide would work smooth and with no issues with GB I'd be glad to use it. If you decide to go for a GB ROM could you please provide me with some feedback? I would really appreciate it if you do so. I am not so cool with using ICS as stock is very battery & RAM consuming. And I was not so convinced using Litekernel or literom. Literom is really cool, but it has some issues and glitches that I found very disturbing. If you do go for GB please provide me with some feedback :highfive: Regards

I got this phone with new ROM already installed, so I won't try flashing 2.3.5 GB Android, I have no experience with this at all. Sorry. And I doubt that there weren't any issue with GB, one can search older posts in these forums and see that there were many bugs and bloat and troubles.
As for working download link for INC3PTION 2.3.5 ROM, there is one from Androide3 here. You can try it.

Hello @Androide3, thank you for your response. How long have you been using it? Have you had any issues? Is your battery life good? How about RAM usage?
BTW is there a specific method to install this ROM? I ask since I have never used GB. My phone came with ICS already

Thanks for details given in this thread.
Where can I find the stock android 4.0.4 second version?
An other quick question (I know this is an off topic question), is the samsunng galaxy s i9000 battery the same with the i927 batter?
Thank you

Listen may i know it got really annoying with the sound.. but we have a fix now...
its a third party app which you can use.. its very easy to use and one time setup only
just get any kitkat rom..
its stable and only stops working if the app gets killed but otherwise i have tested it extesively
try it out and i would suggest omnirom to you if u prefer simplicity.

Finally I did it!
Finally I did it!
Ok, it was very easy and I feel kind of stupid  but as for the first time I'm still proud.
The major problem I couldn't install the stock rom was because of twrp. I had a old version, 2.4 I believe.
I managed to over install cwm v 6.whatever which was compatible with i927 and re-tried to install the stock rom and IT WORKED!
The stock rom is great! the phone is much much much quicker than with cm10.2. All features work! skype calls, voice recording, map, camera rotation, etc. Will see if I will lose any missed call.
The problem, I'm facing now is the sd card and internal memory which were inverted during cm10.2, but I am sorting things out.
I'm a bit disappointed that I lost all the installed apps with cm10.2. and I can not re-install them again. I have only the option to update it which won't work. Any idea?

I have brand new att s3 and 4.0
should I root it then get official update, or update it and then root?
the official update breaks root so it won't matter. you can root the new JB update though no problem.
Sticking with cm10 because it's awesome!

Cm10 ROM is truly amazing. What do you really loose? You loose all the motion gestures that, well personally I didn't use except the *stay awake* one, the stock video player, ability to save camera to extsd(which I actually hate not having)
What do you gain? You gain speeds on a phone I never imagined, you gain the absolute absence of bloatware, you gain an awesome camera, total systematic customization, far less app freezes(if rarely any), beautiful lock screen, notification bar from heaven, longer battery, performance control and sooooo much more. So far the S3 with a CM ROM on it, is longest phone I have ever kept.
Is there a way to update CM 10 nightly automatically? Or is it by flashing as if it was another rom? Where do we get 10.1? Thanks

The ability to save camera images to EXT SD is something I wasn't aware CM10 didn't have. Hmm, I usually keep all my media on the EXT SD. I guess that's not a deal breaker more than it is an annoyance. The other thing I expect to lose is S Planner and the related widgets. I thought they were very useful. I wonder if the AOSP Calendar app has a similar widget? Can you or anyone confirm?
I look forward to the performance improvements even though I have no complaints with the TW JB in that area. The battery life is what I am hoping will improve quite a bit.
I was running CM10 since the stable release. I loved it. Battery life was great. I missed a lot of the TW features so i went to Bacon. Personally i wish there was a hybrid of both. BT works better in TW, but CM is so damn fast! Its just a preference, but try them out. Thats the beauty of owning these devices. .

I agree. I tried CM10 for a few days and I loved it, but I had to go back to stock (and happened to get the official JB update the same day). I use Bluetooth in my car, so it's a really important feature for me. The CM Bluetooth support just isn't as solid as the stock ROM. It sometimes had trouble connecting, the volume was lower, and there was a bug where there was no bass. Also, the stock ROM has some nice Samsung features that I'd like to try out for a bit longer (I just got the phone last week).
If CM can resolve the BT issues, then I might go back. However, I had similar issues on CM6/7 on my old Sony Ericsson X10. I wanted to throw that phone out the window of my car.

I flashed blackjellyv.0.9.1 and got everything stock had to offer with the cm10 feel and more. So amazing that tw should mimic it. But, weirdly I got so used the phone ability to swipe from dialer over that having to two hand it to the top to select things really irritated me. The cm10.0 is a bit faster, BUT u can DL pics right to SDCard on camera!!! The lock screen is the ripple stock which I wish were the jellybean lock instead, and the dialer flashes greens and blues etc while it is call out or coming in if you do not have a pic defaulted. I couldn't stand that part. The BlackJelly though IS the stock version of CM10 IMO

HELP! Need advice! 4.1.2 vs 4.2.1

I recently upgraded from 4.1.2 (12/2/12 release) to 4.2.1 (1/26/13 release). My phone is buggy as hell and I am getting a lot of error messages because I did not do a full wipe. I am going to do a full wipe but cannot see any reason to stick with 4.2.1... Fast charging is gone, I dont really like the way the toggles are laid out, less lockscreen target icons, etc... there is nothing on this update that really makes me want to keep it.
Can anyone give their opinion on 4.2.1 vs 4.1.2? I enjoyed the 4.1.2 build and found it to be very stable (thats why I kept it so long) but if 4.2.1 is faster, more stable, better battery life etc I would prolly consider trying it after the wipe.
So what are your experiences between these two? why should I go with one over the other? Does anyone have tasks latest build of 4.1.2 (+gapps) or have a suggestion for another rom (I wouldn't be apposed to trying something new!)
Important:
battery life
stability
performance
Functionality
lockscreen targets (lol)
Fast charge option was definitely nice to have as well!
Not important:
Unicorn bootscreen animation
Thanks in advance for everyone's input! :highfive:
stability and functionality are key things.
for instance, bluetooth streaming is finnicky unless you mess with it on CM10.1, seemingly fine on CM10.
bleeding edge generally means that you're leveraging stability and functionality for new features.
i'm still on 4.1.2 (ParanoidKangDroid) and enjoying the experience here. if you're not experiencing any issues, i would say stick it out until you're ready to move forward and the bugs have been identified and ironed out by early adopters.
Anybody else? I would really appreciate some input
My phone is buggy as hell and I need to flash something whether it be 2.1 or 1.2.
Does anyone have the last 4.1.2 build by task? Will I get flamed for asking on the development thread?

If you want my 4.1.2 release then all you need to do is follow the rules and search for it. Its been answered over a hundred times and wouldn't be hard to find. Also. Your device is buggy only because you caused that. If you refuse to follow the installation instructions then you should expect a lot of issues. Those instructions are there for good reason. Also. There is a fast charge option. You just didn't search on what you need to get it. You will come across a ton of useful information by doing so. Promise.
Currently I keep switching between Task's 4.2 and 4.1. I like a lot of things about 4.2 like chronos, the toggles, notification layout etc.. but I also switch to 4.1 a lot because I need a working BT. To be honest, Task's latest 4.1 is so freakibg smooth and stable that unless you really need 4.2, I don't see a reason to upgrade asap.
With that said, other than the BT issues, 4.2 is also perfect so it is only a matter of days/weeks before I am switching full time to 4.2.

Yea it ultimately comes down to performance and functionality, I have to use the phone for work so I think reverting to 4.1.2 is the best option. Thanks for the input!
EDIT: Two other questions... Is 10/12/12 the most up to date gaps for the build? Is the latest kt kernel optimized for this rom?

12/19 are the latest Gapps I believe. Also, there's a stock kernel for a reason. Ktoon's kernel may or may not work better on your phone, it depends on both your phone and your settings/way you use your phone.

[Q] Which ROM? Or back to Stock for a fast phone

Hello
I have enjoyed having djolivier's JB ROM in my phone. But it is still so much slower than Stock. I need to be able to dial, text and search straight away. I have a class 10 SD, I'm using Int2Ext+ I don't have a lot of apps, I only partitioned 512MB to try and speed it up.
I upgraded to get the Gmail App with Primary Inbox etc. but Gmail is so slow I hardly use it
Do I need to go back to stock with Link2SD? Or Stock with Int2Ext+? Or is there a ROM out there that is really actually so fast that the app opens when you touch it - not 5 or 25 laggy seconds later?
This may not be the correct place for this - but I don't get straight answers on other sections of the forum.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Chris
Hello. First of all I have to tell you that in my oppinion, the Wildfire S hardware is a bit weak, so you can't avoid the 5 laggy seconds for an app to open... But, I 'll tell you which roms are the fastest for me.
1. Stock. This is what I use. I like its performance, but I dislike it visually. I use a Sense 4 theme and live with it.
2. CM9. I my oppinion the fastest custom rom until now. It lacks one thing: Video recording. Someone could talk about the laggy video playback but Henry_01 modified some lib files in his MIUI port, and video playback is working there. So I replaced the libs in CM9 and it worked too. So If you don't care about video recording you can use this one.
3. JDevs upcoming update seems a lot promising to me, and this is what I'm waiting for to replace stock.
As for the scripts, in terms of speed:
Link2sd > int2ext+ >int2ext
I use stock android 2.3.5 Sense 2.1 with Link2sd.
This is what I think is the best, until now.
edit: I forgot the Cyanogenmod 10.1 by OWL project, it's good and fast too. But in my opinion cm9 is better, in terms of performance.

Thanks so much for your response. One follow up question. You're saying Link2SD is the best for speed? When I installed a JB rom without int2ext there was not enough memory to even start installing apps..... did I do something wrong? I don't want to go back to the days of uninstalling apps so I can update the ones with large memory etc.

You 're right. Link2sd worked succesfully only on GB and ICS for me too. You didn't do anything wrong, so use only int2ext(+) with JB.....

Would you mind linking to which CM9 ROM you would suggest? Trying to breathe some life into my phone again.

For me this is the best CM9 rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245617&highlight=slimsandwich
As it is, it has 2 bugs: no camera recording and slightly buggy video playback. If you want, I can fix the video playback and provide it to you tomorrow.
Although, I would suggest that you wait for the next big project by the owl team, based on android 4.2.2.
edit: Better use this link to SlimSandwich, as here, in xda it's not the latest version posted: https://teamblueridge.org/projects/files/
Rom > Marvel > Slimsandwich-marvel
Or tell me to give it to you with working libs for video playback.
Thanks for the info. The problem with owls project is that WiFi tethering is and has been broken for a long time and I hardly see them fixing it. I'll try out slimsandwich. I'm mainly looking for a fast, responsive ROM, not many features.

[Q] Anyone still on Gingerbread? Which ROM is your daily

Hi everyone, I just created this thread as I would like to know who is still on GB 2.3.x. Which ROM (GB) are you using, what are the current bugs or issues? I am asking since I got my Glide with ICS 4.0.4. After some research I came here looking for some answers and procedures on rooting & flashing. Found exactly what I was looking for, thanks to you all btw. Got bored of ICS as it used too much RAM & battery, tried LiteRom, had some issues, then came back to sock rooted, was not convinced. Started using some JB ROMS, issues. KitKat... issues. I want to start using a GB ROM, but I would really like some feedback form experienced users in what are the pro's & con's for GB, as I am aware that there's a lot of apps not compatible with this O.S. I would appreciate some advice from you guys! Thanks in advance
Wow... No one is using GB anymore? LOL... Just wanted to try it out, but I have only received some feedback from Androide3 using Osimod. Well... I guess I'll give it a shot sometime
GB Rogers Stock

Oh cool. Still in stock, how's everything going with your Glide? For rooting GB follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082 Make sure you read it at least 3 times, to make sure you got it. There's also this updated guide on installing ROMs & ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623635 :good:

Hi
even if I cannot help you regarding a pro/contra list for GB I'm interested in what your issues were in LiteROM? I'm currently developing a fork based on it because I also had issues - maybe I had the same and therefore solved already
And if so you may not need a pro/contra list anymore

Thanks for your reply ... I used it for a long time, I actually had some issues with the toggles turning on automatically, like gps, wifi and data... Camera will shut down the phone if less than 25% charge, if im not mistaken... Weird FC´s. Other issues I honestly do not remember. I was using ROMs based on KK4.4 like cr droid pac and CM11. But I went back to stock as I wanted a fully functional phone. Rooted, deleted all AT&T bloat. Did some tweaks, and so far so good. I never got used to the idea of GB as for now is way too old...

Hm never had a camera crash but in LiteROM you have the choice of 3 different camera apps maybe I use another one than you had. The toggle thing sounds more interesting because I can't remember that I saw that before! So you want to say that e.g. GPS is turning on automatically?

Oh hell no! Just saw your ROM post in General! Go read it LOL
My Glide has been in a drawer for over a year and I recently decided to try using it again. It's still on GB, rooted and unlocked. I ended up putting it back in the drawer, mainly because quite a few of my apps complained about not having ICS or above.
I would like to update it to a newer, stable, close-as-possible-to-stock ROM when I have time.
I have been using stock ICS 4.0.4 the last 3 weeks, I really have nothing to complain as I did some mods over the stock rom, mostly uninstalling all the att crap, and some unnecesary apps like gmail & google + running in the background consuming lots of resources. So far it has been great, plus I havent had battery issues. It will last the entire day, without a heavy usage of course. Currently waiting for the release of sedirom to try it out as Im getting used to the ol ICS as it is really stable, as if not 100% stable. Has anyone used Xposed with stock ICS? If you have, please let me know which mods have you done with it.

Had my wife on Stock until upgrading to ICS 4.04. Was a bit flaky and upgraded to KitKat. I can definitely say the looks of KK is much better but it sure was more stable on stock. Biggest issues tended to be BlueTooth as we continued upgrading..

I actually used Bubor´s CM11 with KitKat 4.4.2 & 4.4.3. It really is smooth and I really liked it, but I just like my phone with no issues at all, so I went back to stock ICS. Which Rom are you using for kitkat?

Using Bubor's OmniRom 4.4.4.... When we connect it to the car via Bluetooth (after deleting pairing, etc.) it still isn't working... On ICS 4.04 Bluetooth worked fine most of the time, but kept dropping ever so often. My wife's Fitbit Flex wouldn't connect either. Ironically, it does on 4.4.4....
Love my glide
from a hardware perspective I love my glide. I don't really want to upgrade to a new phone, but I have had several annoyances on it. One of them is the Google maps not working with Ice Cream Sandwich. Other annoyances too. I tired the KitKat rom here, and it's very good, but I was trying to get all of the google apps on and I hit a wall with the partition size. Seemed fixable but was driving me nuts. Not sure which direction I should go now.

[Suggestion] Stable ROM for Xperia S 4.4?

Hei guys,
Most probably this question has been asked already, but since then more updates had been followed.
I'm running a FreeXperia 4.1.2 ROM on my Xperia S, and I would like to change to a newer version (preferable 4.4.x) that is fitting a day-by-day use. What would you recommend me?

If You want extremely stable, go for Mokee. We still have official support from it. Second most stable according to Me is Carbon, but it has less frequent updates.
mokee?
Don't u have force closes ?
I think crDROID is most stable if your looking for KitKat rom
Never-ever use CrDroid for daily-use, it's kinda nice rom although you'll get alot (well, a few but still) of random reboots, it has very much customization options but with cost of stability.
Carbon Rom was quite nice 4.4.4 but the battery lasts half day with it...so it's also bad idea to use it.
I also used AOSPX, Paranoid, CM 11 and Mokee but can't say much about them because they were on my XS only for a few minutes - didn't liked any of them but I've heard much good things about AOSPX so you can try that one.
Otherwise I don't recommend any 4.4 roms, better stick to 4.1
I would recommend using PA or Carbon, both are stable ROMs of 4.4.4 for Xperia S. Carbon has more customization than PA, but PA is like semi-lollipop. Both give you 721 MB of RAM against 621 MB of stock JB.

AOSPX works very well. Only problem is you can't use your phone for calling. Oops.
Call volume does not do anything AND the other end can't hear you. So if you don't want to talk with anyone it's afine rom

Good for you but it doesn't do much for me.
And for the record, I just had to completely wipe my XS so it's not likely that either.
I guess I'll give PA a shot and if it won't work, I'll go back to 4.1. I'n any case I'm just using the phone as for a 2nd sim card to pick up calls and little else. Stock rom has this aggravating bug with PIN codes where the android phone will keep on crashing, so..
The best overall rom so far
For me the smoothest, fastest and most stable is the carbon rom build 20140808-1848
Also customization options available... try it you wont regret it...
I experienced crdroid, it's a great rom but has some bugs and reboots a few times in a day. I have been using CARBON rom (20141103 build) for 3 weeks, and I'm very happy with it. It's very stable for me.
Well, Paranoid android v4.4.4 also had the same very low voice problem in-call. At least the other guys can hear ME but I can't really hear THEM. I also grabbed the low voice fix and installed it but it didn't help.
I think I'll check the OpenSEMC-U 10.1 now, lots of people seem to like it. (that's 4.2)
Nope, same problem. 4.2.2 CM10.1 has very very low volume in-call as well. And, yes, I did wipe, install new kernel blah bloody blah blah.
*sigh* I guess it's back to the official "android phone has stopped" firmware :crying:
Try LP nAOSP or AOSP, they are better then 4.4
