I have a Samsung GS3 AT&T version with CM10.0.0 ROM.
I noticed that since I flashed 10.0 ROM, the cellular signal level seems always low, most of time, only 2 or 3. but with original stock rom, it shows at least 4 bars most of the time. Another problem I have experienced is that the cellular signal gets lost from time to time and it takes quite a while (at least a few seconds) to regain the connection.
One last problem is there is no LTE signal since 10.0 ROM. I believe this might be an known issue already. Is this true? Has anybody experienced the similar problems as I stated in above? Any solutions? Or I'd expect these issues will be fixed in the upcoming 10.1 ROM?
Thanks!

Flash many nightlies and even the stable ROM and more often than not I'd have the same problem as you and that's a huge battery killer. CM hasn't been verybstae in reference to data connection even with their stable release its still been a problem for me and a few others that I know whom tried running it all in separate carriers. Try a different cm10 based ROM in the original android development section. There are dozens that are great fast and stable with no data issues.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any CM10 based ROM that you'd particularly have experienced and recommend? I don't want to keep flashing ROMs and trying them out one by one. My simple goal is to find a stable and least buggy ROM and stay with it at least for quite a while.
Thanks!

I used this one from release to a few weeks ago I went back to stock so I could lean about ROM cooking so. This gave me the best battery life on a cm10 based ROM and its real lightweight and just all around awesome.

Hey, thanks for the info. I checked out that link but unfortunately, the ROM image is not available for downloading any more. I'll do some search to see if I can get that liquidsmooth ROM that you recommended. Or I can find an similar one to try out.

Alright, I was wondering, I've been having some problems lately with the CM10 roms, and I switched back to the stock unrooted rom.
My problem was it was disconnecting me from the server every once in a while, had to reboot to reset the connection, now even when on the stock rom it does this, is this a Bell Mobility problem? Or a phone problem? I see I had to create a new APN with the Bell settings, but I really dont know why!
I was wondering, is this a network problem? Or a phone problem? I've had my phone for about a 1.5months and just the past couple days that it does this to me!
Thanks,
JP
I'm on Bell.
If it happens on stock ROM it's either hardware issue or Bell is having problems.
Yeah network connection is only good... 98% of the time in my experience with AOSP Rom's (including CM10). Sometimes it stops working altogether and I have to toggle flight mode a few times. I must have flashed AOSP Rom's about 50-60 times and each and every single time I have gotten literally double the latency I get on TW rom's regardless of which Modem I use. Other people do not seem to be having this issue, just people with Bell.

Thanks, seems like its back to normal with the stock ROM, so I might try another AOKP or AOSP rom... Which TW rom did you use?
So it's better with an AOSP rom or worst? Pardon my english, french is my primary language!

I recommend Task650's AOKP ROM.
But be aware all non touchwiz ROM's have some bugs currently. But they are smoother and faster, that's why I use them.
If you are looking for a TW rom, I have been using this one since it came out and don't have any serious issues with it.

I'll take a look at it, but it says for sprint?
Yah. But it works. And if you chk a lot of the roms, they're built on AT&T base and they also work fine on a Bell device.
My biggest issue (for me at least) with AOSP, AOKP and CM10 roms is that voice mail notification doesn't work. It's been a known issue for some time but it hasn't been fixed yet. I should qualify by saying I haven't run every single rom out there but anything built off CM10 seems to have this issue on Bell devices.

I can download the rom you posted and load it no problems? It's basically JB upgraded a bit? Can you post a screen shot of what it looks like? Have you had any bugs with it? Seems like the last update was on October 29th...
Thanks!

Also on all AOKP Rom's I can not receive MMS at all. Not sure if it worked on CM10
I triple checked APN every time I tested.
I recently upgraded from 4.1.2 (12/2/12 release) to 4.2.1 (1/26/13 release). My phone is buggy as hell and I am getting a lot of error messages because I did not do a full wipe. I am going to do a full wipe but cannot see any reason to stick with 4.2.1... Fast charging is gone, I dont really like the way the toggles are laid out, less lockscreen target icons, etc... there is nothing on this update that really makes me want to keep it.
Can anyone give their opinion on 4.2.1 vs 4.1.2? I enjoyed the 4.1.2 build and found it to be very stable (thats why I kept it so long) but if 4.2.1 is faster, more stable, better battery life etc I would prolly consider trying it after the wipe.
So what are your experiences between these two? why should I go with one over the other? Does anyone have tasks latest build of 4.1.2 (+gapps) or have a suggestion for another rom (I wouldn't be apposed to trying something new!)
Important:
battery life
stability
performance
Functionality
lockscreen targets (lol)
Fast charge option was definitely nice to have as well!
Not important:
Unicorn bootscreen animation
Thanks in advance for everyone's input! :highfive:
stability and functionality are key things.
for instance, bluetooth streaming is finnicky unless you mess with it on CM10.1, seemingly fine on CM10.
bleeding edge generally means that you're leveraging stability and functionality for new features.
i'm still on 4.1.2 (ParanoidKangDroid) and enjoying the experience here. if you're not experiencing any issues, i would say stick it out until you're ready to move forward and the bugs have been identified and ironed out by early adopters.
Anybody else? I would really appreciate some input
My phone is buggy as hell and I need to flash something whether it be 2.1 or 1.2.
Does anyone have the last 4.1.2 build by task? Will I get flamed for asking on the development thread?

If you want my 4.1.2 release then all you need to do is follow the rules and search for it. Its been answered over a hundred times and wouldn't be hard to find. Also. Your device is buggy only because you caused that. If you refuse to follow the installation instructions then you should expect a lot of issues. Those instructions are there for good reason. Also. There is a fast charge option. You just didn't search on what you need to get it. You will come across a ton of useful information by doing so. Promise.
Currently I keep switching between Task's 4.2 and 4.1. I like a lot of things about 4.2 like chronos, the toggles, notification layout etc.. but I also switch to 4.1 a lot because I need a working BT. To be honest, Task's latest 4.1 is so freakibg smooth and stable that unless you really need 4.2, I don't see a reason to upgrade asap.
With that said, other than the BT issues, 4.2 is also perfect so it is only a matter of days/weeks before I am switching full time to 4.2.

Yea it ultimately comes down to performance and functionality, I have to use the phone for work so I think reverting to 4.1.2 is the best option. Thanks for the input!
EDIT: Two other questions... Is 10/12/12 the most up to date gaps for the build? Is the latest kt kernel optimized for this rom?

12/19 are the latest Gapps I believe. Also, there's a stock kernel for a reason. Ktoon's kernel may or may not work better on your phone, it depends on both your phone and your settings/way you use your phone.

Yeah I am going to test the stock kernel for now and may switch to Ktoon's later down the road. I seem to get better battery life and performance from it. At my house I get a fairly weak LTE signal. It seems like I get much slower speeds while on LTE when I'm running an AOSP based ROM on this weak signal. I've tried CM10.1 nighties & CarbonRom. Like I said, the signal is pretty weak so sometimes I'll lose it when on either TW or AOSP but it seems like TW works better with it. What's causing this? Is there a way to fix it? Has anyone else noticed the same thing?
It is pretty much impossible to narrow down the culprit of signal strength, just think of how many variables are out there. It is said by many AOSP ROMs give a more accurate signal bar reading than TW. TW supposedly adds some boost to make it look stronger. One thing you can do is switch modems, they work different for different areas. I personally prefer to be on the most recent one always which right now is MA6. you can also go back to a TW ROM temporarily and make sure your prl and profile are up to date. Also you want to go to settings>about device>status to see you real reading for signal strength don't just rely on what the bars say. There is usually a way to even change this in your notification bar for most ROMs. Or you can download something like sensorly or open signal in the play store to keep track.

The thing is that it isn't just the reading. When I do a speed test I generally get less than 1 mbps on AOSP, but with TW I get 3 to 8 mbps usually. This is from the exact same spot in my room & at the same time of day too. I don't know if there is a difference anywhere else I go because I don't switch ROMs while I'm out. I'm using the MA6 modem right now & found that it works best for me. I'm just confused on how LTE speeds on TW could be so much better when my modem & everything is the same.
I figured out something really weird last night. I clean flashed the CM10 stable build & LTE worked just as well as it does on TW. Then I clean flashed the latest CM10.1 nightly and LTE was performing poorly again. Could it be a problem with Android 4.2?? Anyone experience the same thing ever? I'm going to try some more tests tonight.

Possibly. I did a lot more testing today. LTE signal & speed was better on all CM10 nightlies while it was still performing poorly on all CM10.1 nightlies, Slim Bean stable, and CarbonRom stable. The CM10 nightly from 12/26 (the last CM10 nightly before CM10.1) works great while the CM10.1 nightly from 12/18 (the first CM10.1 nightly) performs poorly. I tried a few more nightlies at random dates for both CM10 & 10.1 also and results were the same. So I'm guessing it has to do with Android 4.2 since all ROMs on 4.1 work fine! I'm not really sure what else I can try.
Try not using nightlies and only use stable or m snapshot. Of course you won't get stable results from a nightly. That's why they are called a nightly.

Haha, true. I just find it really weird that CM10 nightlies are fine while CM10.1 has the problem. The Slim Bean & CarbonRom builds I tried were supposedly stable releases.

Eh well it depends. I've found that developer builds and test releases and the such tend to function better than the "stable" releases of the same rom or package
But thats just my experience

thanks for that, but this thread is based on everything to do with cyanogenmod 10.1 and above, clearly i am not a fan of nightlies as to do with updating my phone every second (thats a hustle for me cuz i gotta backup everything/reinstall everything again) and not to mention i have better things to do than just updating to a new bulds everyday or trying new roms
ihave too much variable things on my phone to delete for reasons like nightlies

First and foremost, no OS or software, including android, is perfect. Secondly starting a new thread does not mean it will not get "cluttered" either. The ROM thread for CM is not as bad as you make it out to be. The idea is that the newest material covers the most recent nightlies. It is not that difficult to go to the end and work backwards. In regards to you random reboots, look on JIRA as it exists for this very reason. Take a logcat and report on JIRA if not already covered. JIRA gives you all the bugs reported and their current status towards a fix. This is a wasted thread for this very reason.
As far as ROMs being different...that is the point. Each developer(s) put their own spin on it. That is what makes these development threads so great. You can look for a ROM that you like best. Some ROMs are more universal (but you still need your device specific version), such as CM, while others are device specific.
And phones are not created equal. They may look the same, have the same hardware specs, and all else seemingly equal, but slight manufacturing imperfections make them different. Two people can have the exact same phone from the same carrier, manufactured on the same day, but due to some ever so slight differences from imperfections, ROMs will work differently on each. For instance, in your case CM reboots randomly. For others, such as myself, this is no longer an issue. However, it is possible that another ROM will work great on your phone but not on mine.
While you say CM is not perfect like the stock rom, the stock rom is not perfect either. I have AT&T and the stock rom has several issues. The lockscreen securities can be bypassed, the alarm likes to not work at random times (software bug), and every now and then I get a battery plummet after a phone call when the phone switches between 4G and 4G LTE. Others may or may not have these issues but they seem to be rather common (the security bypass affects all S3 phones that were on 4.1.1 that I am aware of). For this reason I stick to custom roms because I do not have these problems which I personally view as severe for me (Aside from protecting my data and enjoying battery life, I rely on my phone as an alarm clock). Now that 4.2.2 has come as far as it has, it is stable enough that I can use it as a daily driver. I knowingly accept any bugs that are there because typically the ones that exist do not have a large affect on me, if at all, unlike the stock rom.
Hi friends!
I've been around the forums the past few days and noticed several Android 5.0 lollipop roms for our device. I've tried out a few of them and have been very impressed with how good they are. So I'd like to ask you guys, what are your experiences with any of these Lollipop Roms? Is there any you prefer? What are any bugs you've come across? Is there any advice you'd like to give on flashing or using these roms?
I think this could be a great way to gather our thoughts and keep track of how development is going.
Thanks!
I am eagerly waiting to make one of these roms my daily. Flash every nightly of the cm12 and play around for about an hour but then nandroid back. Not that many issues but still seem buggy and things that i use daily like the IR blaster dont work. I find it amazing how fast the devs were able to get us 5.0 roms so quick! And almost fully functional to! Maybe you can list the roms? To my knowledge the only 5.0 roms iv seen are 2 cm12s and a 5.0 pac.

So far I've found Phantomphreak53's CM rom to be the most stable. Only thing not working is video recording which is a common issue amongst all of the lollipop roms. All in all these builds hold up extremely well for Alphas.

Thanks!

I am currently using the CM-12-Unofficial by PhantomPhreak53 and here are my thoughts so far:
I clean flashed the 11/21 build after formatting data (I know this is not required or necessary) and a wipe. With a clean slate, it worked very well with the exception of NFC, double tap to wake, video recording and the resolution was off. Double tap to wake was fixed by editing a file, resolution was fixed with build prop, and I didn't need NFC or video so it was fine.
I dirty flashed the 11/23 build and NFC has been fixed. The video recording still doesn't work and the error "can't connect to camera" pops up after you try. The 11/23 build also fixed double tap to wake, added privacy settings, and fixed the resolution. Some people have noticed battery drain, but I get just about the same I got with stock. I will get about 3-4 hours of SoT with roughly 12-15 hours off the charger. This is all LTE on T-Mobile. Overall, I think 11/23 is good enough for a daily and I am currently using these "nightlies" as my dailies. There are some reports of crashing, but I haven't had any so far.

I was running the Pac Rom build for a few days, but it seems the developer has switched to a nexus 6 and stopped further development. Pac Rom worked extremely well for me, the only issue I ran into was Documents force closing. I switched to the CM12 (11/24) by Phantomphreak53 today. Hopefully it holds up as well as Pac. Phantomphreak53 has been doing an excellent job with updates almost everyday. I'll check in again after spending some more time with this rom. Thanks for the input everybody!
I tried CM12 11/19 and 11/22, but ended up going back to a 4.4.4 rom because of battery life issues (namely NFC service using up my battery), video issues (opening a video in snapchat caused the phone to crash), and some other various instabilities. Is the video issue fixed in 11/24?

It looks like they are working on the video issue, or they changed something because now I don't get a force close but the video freezes and you have to reboot.
As for battery, I would try clean flashing a new ROM, maybe even the 11/25, because I have no misc or NFC battery issues. NFC did show up on the 11/23 rom, but it was very low and I got about the same battery life as I got from CM-11 and stock. Let's see if 11/25 fixes it for good.
EDIT: Scratch that. Taking a video still causes the camera apps to crash. Nothing has changed there.

I'd much rather have the app crash than have to reboot. I guess i'll have to check out 11/25.

I must have done something to cause the reboot. Every time I have tried since it just crashes. I haven't had any reboot issues at all on any of the roms, and I am currently on 11/25. I apologize if my post was confusing.

Things get a bit funky with these roms sometimes. The other day I lost all audio playback on my phone for absolutely no reason. I kept rebooting, but still no sound. I suggest you get everything working as best as you can and make a recovery from it. That way if things get wacky you can just restore and have everything back to how it was.

That's probably a good idea. I have seen some inconsistencies between devices as well. Some people have weird battery drain while others don't, some have problems with AUX and others don't etc. I wonder how much is the ROM, how much was how it was flashed and how much was related to different apps and settings. So far I have had a great experience though, so no complaints here.
I'm guessing none of these lollipop roms have wifi calling?

Go read any single one of the lollipop threads and that question will be answered for you. Literally, any single one of them.
Every other post asks that same question. Gets frustrating even going through the threads anymore. Every other post mentions the video not working too. It even states in the CM12 OP by phantom that the video doesn't work. It always helps to read the entire thread before even flashing the ROM. That way when you flash it and stuff doesn't work you really have no one to blame but yourself. If you use the video camera a lot, just don't flash the ROM. That way when you try and use the video camera and it crashes, you won't go straight back to the thread and complain or mention it doesn't work. The moderators are gonna start going through and clearing all the repeat posts. They shouldn't have to if you just do your research people. That is all.

No rom not based on t-mobile stock will have wifi calling, it is baked in low level. However, if you have a Google voice number and you integrate it with hangouts you can make a call over data with hangouts, if you're on wifi then boom, wifi calling. Can't be done with your carrier number though.
I've tried all three. Was hesitant to try PhantonPhreak53's build but I finally did and haven't left. Updates have been consistent and this rom has been my daily for about a week now. Not really worried about the video recording. I take Photos on Snapchat majority of the time anyway so I can wait patiently for the video recording fix. I'm just glad to have a stable 5.0 lollipop build.
Looks great
Anyone using these roms with QI charging? Does it still work?
Knocked off my LG-D851
Finally flashed a 5.0 rom and have discovered that QI charging still works, though it feels like it takes longer to charge.
