Hi, first of all i want to apologize dor such a noob question.
The thing is that i just S-OFF my phone, installed CWM recovery, and ROOTed it,
I've read:
Before you start, make sure your CID is on the list, if not
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH!
so my CID is a carrier cid: VODAP304
so, i have the bootloader unlocked, rooted, and CWM and STILL i can't put a JB rom? or im just dumb and im not getting it.
Thanks in advance for your help
S-OFF ? I think you are still S-ON !
Unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with S-OFF
and no you can not flash a JB rom only ICS roms

Okay and now 1 from your bootloader.
That's harder ,my ISP is down, no WiFi atm so I can't post from pc, and can't screenshot the bootloader , tho I can right down and tell you any info you want from the bootloader. Old school solutions

As I thought S-ON not S-OFF
my opinion .... stay on stock or ics roms, don't go messing with different hboots & JB roms even if it's possible !
Just wait for the official update. I think you have to anyway. Don't know about aosp/aokp roms, i don't use them !

Hi to all !
Three weeks ago I got my HTC Wildfire S and it was shipped as S-off.

I tried: Gingerbreak 1.20, SuperOneClick v2.0, Z4Root, Unrevoked 3.32 and all without succes to root my phone.
Is there any other way to do this ?
Can I flash Wildfire S with one custom ROM and then try to get root ?
I read about that this official ROM with Gingerbread 2.3.3 still have kind of NAND security.
Is it possible even if the phone is S-Off ?
Can I downgrade to one other, lower version then 2.3.3 of Android and get the root and then again come back to higher version of Android but then with root access, and if yes could someone explain how to do this please ?
Are the ROM's from old Wildfire (Buzz) compatible with Wildfire S (Marvel) and what is the risk to test them and still not to brick my phone ?
Thanks in advance to all !
Since your phone is S-OFF, you could try flashing the official ROM :http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Marvel
On that ROM, Gingerbreak is guaranteed to work (I've done it twice already).
Interesting ,
Shipped as S-Off by mistake ?!?
Some devices are shipped S-off.
This thread is ready to be moved to the General section
O.K.
But is there any chance that later, after update, it will not work anymore as it should work or something like that ?
And how can I preserve (BackUp) this original ROM from this device without root access and before flashing, because if something go wrong then I can restore the original ROM ...?
Greetz !
And to Mods I owe an apologie for posting in wrong section, sorry.
Rooted
I did what LeeCHeSSS has me suggested and now is my Wildfire S rooted and with SuperUser. I didn't use custom recovery.
Thanks LeeCHeSSS !
Dankjewel !
Mine also came with S-off. Did anyone rooted this device? Is there any kind of tutorial for this? I am doing this for the first time in my life..
Look in development section.

I found it! I was looking at the wrong thread! I will try the tutorial I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275.
Just did it and it works! Everything is OK! I have root . Thanks and special thanks to Heritz !
Downgrade to older stock ROM
All what you have to do is to download official ROM as LeeCHeSSS has explained up :
"Since your phone is S-OFF, you could try flashing the official ROM :http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?ca...d&model=Marvel
On that ROM, Gingerbreak is guaranteed to work (I've done it twice already). "
After that you have to download Gingerbreak 1.20 and execute it and after that your device will be rooted.
You don't need custom recovery.
Cheers !
Or just flash a custom rom which is pre rooted.

Before you flash a ROM you have to factory reset and a wipe the dalvik cache. (If you're on ClockworkMod do each twice.) Then flash it again.

Anyways, It looks like you've either got a bad download or a marvlec phone. Status 0 usually pops up when the updater script doesn't match the actual phone type.

OK, you could Google it (actually, you would have found it sooner), but a simple explanation is:
There are multiple partitions on the phone for different purposes, like bootloader, system, cache, data... etc.
Without DevUnlock (see below):
S-ON = Security ON which means partitions are protected and cannot be overwritten, it's impossible to brick your phone this way.
You cannot root or ure custom ROMs
S-OFF = Security OFF which means all partitions are unprotected and can be overwritten, it's easy to brick your phone if you do not know what you are doing.
You can do anything
Then there is HTC's DevUnlock, which allows you to overwrite some partitions when the device is S-ON (for development purposes).
You can root or use custom ROMs
With S-OFF, DevUnlock is not needed.
S-OFF for HOX is not available at the moment or you have to be the lucky one who bought the device in a S-OFF state.

Go into bootloader:
Power down the phone, then start the phone up while keep holding the volume down key. You will enter bootloader mode, there you will find S-ON or S-OFF.
this as protect your phone.
S-ON : you cant flash cook rom or install some app that out of playstore or cracked sofware .
S-OFF : do antthing you want :fingers-crossed:

Totally incorrect,
with S-ON you flash cooked rom and install anything you want and even access root privileges. (but needs to unlock the Bootloader first to install custom rom and recovery and rooting)
With S-Off you can downgrade your software or brick your phone, most importantly without voiding your warranty at all.

Hi guys.
Quick question.
I've been successfully flashing my HOX for a while now and I seem to be running 1.12 HBOOT.
I've noticed on the forums that this seems to be quite old. Is there any issues with running an older HBOOT?
I am currently waiting on a way to upgrade to a Jelly Bean sense ROM but I'm stuck due to my CID (VODAP002) not being compatible.
Is it an easy process to upgrade the HBOOT? Would you recommend it ?
Thanks
1.12 isn't old, its the HBOOT for ICS 4.0.4
You cannot install JB HBOOTs like 1.33, 1.36 because you are carrier branded and need to wait for your carrier to update.

You have 0.96 because you were on base 1.29 or earlier and flashed custom ROM. Don't see any advantages besides bigger writing in bootloader screen
since there is a thread here about pretty much a similar topic to what im wanting to know:
should I update my hboot from 0.43 to 1.12 or 1.21? what advantages would i get in doing so? better battery life? better performance? updating Hboot seems like a rather lengthy proceedure and i cant find any info on what i would even get from doing so anyway so i havent bothered until now.
any info be appreciated

The steps for what?
To install OTA:
Return to stock ROM and boot.img from a backup, flash stock recovery, let OTA install.
To update bootloader:
Nandroud backup
Titanium backup
fastboot oem lock
fastboot oem rebootRUU # check spelling
fastboot flash recovery recovery.zip
Unlock bootloader # wipes phone
restore apps and app data with Titanium

he can't... once you flash the RUU your phone becomes normal as pretty much every One on this forum... you'll only be able to go back to superCID only if we discover a way to S-OFF
Maybe you can find some more useful info here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2222115
but Im S-OFF so I will lose the supercid if I flash RUU ?
and I read that I dont have too unlock bootloader if I S-OFF is that true ?
Yes you need to unlock the bootloader before you can flash !
Edit :
You won't loose s-off by unlocking the bootloader. The possibility is there when you install a ruu.....
so how exactly S-OFF help me here ? XD
thatp pretty weird before i take my HOX to fix it was on Relock cause I opened the bootloader then relock to use waranty and now it says LOCKED no RELOCKED how is this possible ?
and how the technican made my device S-OFF and SUEPRCID 1111111 ?
That's something i don't know exactly, they probably have HTC certified methods of unlocking and relocking to fix certain locked partitions of the phone.

Lets assume that to be safe. Always do it via a firmware flash or a stock nandroid backup. Just to be safe.
And yes you don't need to flash the boot.img manually. But as additional info :
A lot of devs have taken out the script that flashes the boot.img when installing the rom. So with a lot of roms you still have to flash the boot.img with fastboot commands.
and one more question super cid devices (non rooted or bootloader unlocked) get OTA updates faster then other cids ?
and if I go back to stock via RUU it wont change my device to S-ON right ? and there's anyway to bring the Super cid back ?
