[Q] Cell broadcast in Jellybean - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick question. Does anyone know where to set up cell broadcasting in Jellybean? I can't seem to find the settings. I've looked under "Settings -> Wireless and Networks", which is supposed to be the most common place to hold the settings, but it's just not there....

I've looked thoroughly both in the phone settings (even in the Call settings where it usually is) and in the forums but it seems JellyTime doesn't have this feature as for now

Help...Urgent!

Hi
My phone (HTC Desire HD) is acting very weirdly.
Problems
1. I cannot cannot connect to the internet via my mobile network. It says "use phone for data connection when Wi-Fi is unavailable". I have tried to fix this by doing various things such as doing a reset but nothing works.
2. I have a broadband connection (Wi-Fi) which requires an IP address to be entered. I cannot enter this IP address anywhere and I cannot insert my username and password anywhere in order to surf the internet.
3. I keep on receiving texts from a certain contact with information about my bill for my network service provider
4. My location is stuck on a location, I haven't been in almost a month.
5. My battery life is very poor even with mild usage.
Are these problems from the new update (Android 2.2.1)?.
Please how can I fix these issues?
Anyone have an idea when android 2.3 will be released for the DHD?
Thanks
bump - comon guys someone help me out!!
Hi,
1. What is your settings configuration right now ? (rooted phone, android version ?, did you flashed the ROM....)
2. For the wifi, it's really simple. Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Wi-Fi Settings and once here, you have to push the menu key, it will show an "Advanced button". After that you have to select "Use statis IP"....
5. For your battery life, perhaps you've installed too many apps and they are running in background (and consume power). Don't forget to turn off hardware functions you don't use (wifi, bluetooth, GPS...) and choose a brightness level not too high if you want to improve your battery life.
Thanks for the reply. I have a non rooted DHD running android 2.2.1
Ok.
Did you checked the "Mobile Network" option in the "Wireless and networks" panel ? otherwise it will never work

[Q] Dialer battery drain?

Hello I've been getting drained battery life, it seems the dialer caused this. Any help?
Sent from my HTC_A510c using xda premium
Try the following:
Go to Settings -> Sound -> disable "Quiet ring on pickup", "Pocket mode", and "Flip for speaker".
If that doesn't work, enter *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information, then you'll see a setting called "Set preferred network type" and change it to "GSM auto(PRL)"
Don't worry, you'll still have HSPDA and 3G, it'll just search for networks on an indexed list of frequencies instead of searching the entire spectrum.
And if that doesn't work, change the skin to the default Slate theme. Not sure why that works but it did for me.
I fixes the dialer in my Rom, now it uses just about 3%
Model: Wildfire S A510e
Recovery: unofficial CWM
Rom: JxMatteo_ROM_V1. 1 with Link2sd - OC - Rooted
Could this be what you're looking for? I haven't had any problems or tried this, but I just randomly stumbled upon it in the index thingy.

The *#*#4636#*#* tip only works if you live in an area that does not have a 3G network, because it prevents the phone from searching for one though it doesn't exist. Otherwise it will not help you. To know what your network is, go to Settings > Status > Mobile network type. If it says Edge, do the *#*#4636#*#* trick, otherwise no need to mess with it.
You also need to search this forum for "dialer battery" because there is a plethora of info about it. If I understand correctly, it doesn't really have a significant impact on your battery life, only how power consumption is being reported. I had the same problem running stock HTC ROMs. Now I'm running CM7 and dialer doesn't even show up most of the time (display is always the big one), but battery life is less, probably because I've overclocked it!

There could be 2 separate issues with the battery reporting application incorrectly displaying Dialer usage and the battery being depleted extremely fast. When I first got my WFS the battery would die in 6 hours without me touching the phone (fully charged before I went to sleep, woke up - phone dead). So I know that it can't JUST be a reporting error.
For me the battery issue went away when I changed the skin from HTC to Slate. So I'm guessing it's a HTC issue.

There seems to be a lot of HTC phones reported with this issue, most notably Wildfire S, ChaCha and Evo.

Wi-fi settings, I don't like them...

Wow, I do really hate my Wi-Fi controls on my sprint phone and am hoping someone knows of a simple setting I have not found yet.
When I leave my house I turn off Wi-fi yet sometimes when I am out and I look at my phone, it comes back on. I think it does this when a wi-fi network is nearby??? The phone asks me to setup a wi-fi hotspot even though I don't pay for the service (although I have rooted my phone and tried to get it working through an app). But what aggravates me the most about it is that the wi-fi will turn on and if it isn't connected to a network, it will cause issues with things like Google Play. With wi-fi on and no network to connect to, Google Play won't be able to search and reports a connection problem. Most times I don't pay attention to it being on or off because I know I've turned it off.
I am not sure if this behavior is normal, this didn't happen with my HTC EVO I had. On that phone, wi-fi stayed off until I turned it back on.
I've looked and can't find any settings that might help me figure out how to eliminate this behavior. Anyone?
First questions go in Q&A
Second, turn off the Sprint Optimizer in settings>more>mobile networks>automatic connections.

It is the Sprint Connections Optimizer that is doing that. It will turn WiFi on even after you have turned it off. You can disable the Connections Optimizer in Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks. Some have reported that this feature will also re-enable itself. I have seen that happen. I used Titanium Backup to freeze the Sprint Connections Optimizer app and I no longer have to fight to keep WiFi off when I want it off.
aside from this small annoyance, Can anyone say if this is a battery drainer or not?

I don't think it makes much difference on the battery. It's just annoying, like you said. I turned it off (unchecked the box) from the Mobile Networks and it went away. You really don't need that option cuz it will change whenever there the data coverage changes anyways.

[Q] Wi-Fi Notifications Turned Off But Still Show Up

I keep getting obnoxious notifications that my wi-fi has connected to a network and when I'm driving around I get notifications that there's an open wi-fi network. How do I stop these? I basically always have some notification about wi-fi something or other. Under the Advanced menu of the Wi-fi settings I have both of these check boxes unchecked: "Network notification" and "Show Wi-fi pop-up".
I'm running the stock VZW 5.0 rom, but it used to do it on the 4.4 rom too.
Same thing happening to me, Stock 4.4.3 :/ Wont turn off
Great! At least I'm not the only one. My wife's phone is identical to mine and we have the same Wi-fi settings and her's doesn't do this.
I contacted HTC tech support and after they had me:
uncheck the already unchecked boxes
reboot into safemode to see if it still happened there - it did
Apparently those 2 things were their exhaustive list of fixes, I was told to contact my carrier tech support because they didn't know.

Note 5 Wi-fi Rapidly Switching On And Off

Firmware: 6.0.1
Model: SM-N920A
UPDATE: Problem solved. Turns out it's an issue with the WIFI scanning in LOCATION, not in the wifi settings. While I still think this is an issue with the firmware, at least there's a way to get it to stop freaking out until they get it fixed.
Whenever I turn on the Wifi, it will often begin a cycle of rapidly turning off and back on again. If you watch the switch that indicates 'on' and 'off', it's constantly fluctuating between the two. -Immediately- after the switch shows it's turned on, the text just below the switch says "turning off.." and it turns off, immediately afterward turning back on, and the process repeats constantly until the phone dies.
Something is either forcing it to turn off, or forcing it to turn on. I've tried adjusting the settings for my third-party texting app (Textra), and even after disabling the entire app and using the stock one, the issue persisted.
I've tried restarting, I've tried clearing the cache via the bootloader.
I've exhausted the entire suite of options in settings for anything Wifi related, no configuration of settings has resolved the issue, including turning off wifi scanning.
I've tried entering the combination of "#", "*", and 0's and 1's (can't remember it off the top of my head) to access the wifi settings to turn off the power saving, but my phone under the listed model and firmware showed no such option.
The problem persists in any location, so I know it's not anything to do with the network I'm trying to connect to.
The only way I've gotten it to stop is going to the wifi settings menu, and rapidly tapping the switch while it constantly goes back and forth. I've managed to get it to stay in the "on" position, but that's the closest thing to a fix I've been able to find.
I've combed through many threads in the AT&T Note 5 troubleshooting topic, and can hardly find anything that describes this particular issue, only with wifi "not staying connected" or other obscure descriptions that upon further inspection were -not- the issue I'm having here.
Were it up to me I would root the thing and put stock Nougat on there and be done with it. But alas, AT&T has removed that option.
I am willing to do a factory reset, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if there is any other way to solve it, so I can avoid it in the future.
Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Like I said, I've exhausted all possible options in the menus relating to wifi.
This is what I see when I go into the "Advanced" settings in Wifi.
Network Notification (on or off)
Hotspot 2.0 (on or off)
Keep wifi on during sleep (never)
Auto connect to AT&T wifi (on or off)
Install network certificates
MAC address
IP address
That's all there is. I just factory reset my phone, restored it, and the problem in the OP persists.
I rebooted it in safe mode, and the problem still persists. At this point, it looks like it's an issue with the individual handset, unless there's anything I've missed. This is beyond frustrating.
Sorry but can you explain to me how you stop this from happening?
Mine going crazy from time to time, drives me nuts, and i can't stop it.
Btw this doesn't exist on my AT&T Note 5 --> Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Kill AT&T Wifi Direct and AT&T Hot Spots.. Remove them as System Apps also.. You should get a message that it is replacing it with the stock version somewhere along this path then your wifi will work flawlessly again even with 5GHz, go figure I guess Google does a better job at WiFi.'
Edit: (sloppy instructions)
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
"MORE" top right corner
CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS
<disable AT&T smart WiFi and anything else that is AT&T or Samsung, including theme nonsense if you want)
Now remove it from Apps....
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
Force Stop AT&T Smart Wifi. Disable AT&T Smart WiFI.. (Select Storage in same screeen, restrict background data.. Remove permissions)
I realize some of my steps are redundant but AT&T will update stuff then turn those apps back on somehow.. But not if you gut it like I described above
