xbox 360 controller(USB) - General Accessories

hey. i saw and have read that it is possible to connect the xbox360 controller (USB) to an ICS device. but it doesnt work for me. i have the Neo and ICS and of course the OTG cable. the controller flashes one time and then nothing. even tried joystick center but it cant find anything
my no-name garbage controller works though.

...?

I've had this working on an Iconia A500 with OnLive. Just plugged in and it worked right away.

Maybe it's a power issue? Are phone USB ports designed to deliver adequate amps? Obviously they can receive but perhaps cannot drive peripherals?

I'd be interested to know if this is possible too. I have a Galaxy S3 on JB but I could go back to ICS if it only works on that.

i wanna know that too
is it possible???
i have HTC Sensation

360 Controller on A100?

Hello all. I was wondering if I were to install a A500 rom on my A100, would I be able to use a XBOX 360 controller on it? Of course I would need an adapter. Does anyone know this?
we still do not have a usb host enabled kernal so not at this time
Thanks for the reply. So is it technically possible once there is a usb host enabled kernel?
I really hope so.
From what little i know of USB host mode I beleave it is possible in ICS devices with usb game controllers

I don't think anyone knows for sure. I believe I read somewhere that the Hardware (on the board internally) was not wired to support it. If that is the case nothing done to the Kernel will enable it without opening up the device and performing a hardware mod. I could have been reading this about another device but I'm pretty sure it was the A100.
Bottom line is we will just have to wait and see.
I know for sure. No matter how it is rooted, no matter the kernal, no matter the ROM, adapter or not,it will not work. The USB port in the Acer A100 is not powered. It is set to be connected to something with power. Not to provide it. In order to connect a game controller USB to a device the USB port powers the controller. So it is a hardware issue, no ROM or Kernal can fix it.
Well, I assumed that you are talk about the wireless ones and thus, here is my info for you: Xbox 360 Controller are not Bluetooth, but both the PS3 and Wii controllers are and have apps to support them for Android.
Good luck with it, I'm off to try a Wiimote on my A100.

Power is one problem, but I think the bigger issue is that the port simply doesn't have a hosting mode. (Correct me if I'm wrong!) If it was simply power you should be able to run an external powered hub and get devices to work.
But I know that there's an internal USB bus on the board (courtesy of the NVIDIA chipset I think) that's being used for some components, e.g. the GPS (dmesg shows the kernel loading the pl2303 serial driver and hooking it up on USB.) That would mean to me there's a possibility of tapping into the board to hook into the USB bus, but that's beyond my skill level. A macro model of the motherboard in the service manual does show USB hosting available on the NVIDIA chip.
To the original topic: XBox 360 controllers require a relative lot of amperage to run; it probably wouldn't work on a little device like Acer even if it did power its port. (We could expect something in the ballpark of 250ma max in this mythical setup.) Bluetooth does work and works great; I have an iControlPad which works well and is a blast.

As for the 360 controller power, using a wireless unit with the charger cable allows it to be used as a USB version controller, this should alleviate the power requirements for the controller to 0, while allowing it be used as a wired controller. But again, we need USB host, which we don't seem to have yet, or ever. Or a wired controller with a powered hub, but only if it offers protection from the host port being charged, I seriously doubt the tab itself can protect itself from this as it was never meant to have something like that on it, and may just take whatever voltage goes into it. Same issue I've seen on another tab..maybe the nook, maybe the kindle, I've had both and I forget which is which sometimes.
Then again, the wireless with the USB attachment may try to draw power (as it is the charger) and work opposite of how I think, and of course not work as it'll try to draw power through the port for charging.

Sixaxis controller

I tried to plug in my sixaxis controller and weird things happened.
1st an App came up Livewire I think saying a PS3 controller had been connected. It wanted me to set a.default.
2nd I got am error message saying the device requires too.much power.
What the heck? Is.there some way to hook up a sixaxis? I was using a USB otg cable
I thought a benefit of.this thing was PlayStation certification? And while we are on the subject where is the PlayStation mobile app?
Maybe you can do it via blue tooth somehow? I use a sixaxis on my tablet but never tried phone.

Not sure about plugging it directly into the phone. I have used mine through the livedock from Sony. The ion dock should support it if you get that.

Found the Apps, thanks!
As for the Controller, I did try to plug directly in. No such luck. It worked on my Galaxy Note. I was hoping since this is a Playstation Phone, this would work directly. I may have to buy the dock. This is certainly not the only reason I got the phone but it was a selling point.
It seems my search for the "Perfect Phone" contiues. When I first jumped into Android it was for the Xperia Play. I thought the game controls would make it the best phone. Well, it had other shortcomings as we all know. Chiefly for me was the camera. No Zoom was a big one. I have since been through about 15 phone and tablet combinations including: Galaxy Tab, Note and Skyrocket. Sony Tablet S, Xperia X10 and X10 mini. Motorola Atrix, Xoom, Razr and Backflip, the Acer Iconia Tab, Both Dell Streaks and the Archos G9.
All I really want is something on which I can Game, that also has a good camera. I'm still holding out hope that the ION will fit that bill. Maybe a dock will help.
Dayuum that's a lot of silicone.

Do you think another powered USB hub would work? That seems a little pricey.
im still confused about this LiveDock... is there software or something inside it? or is it NFC Or bluetooth.. their product page seemed incredibly vague other than stating that the possiblities are endless make your phone a mini pc by plugging in a keyboard... really? thats a joke right? couldn't i just use my bluetooth keyboard from my tablet if we ever get the upgrade to ICS. i don't see the benefits of this device

No software, NFC or Bluetooth. With a keyboard and mouse it practically is a mini PC. I have used my livedock with the PS3 remote plugged into it with my Xperia S to play Dead Trigger and Shadowgun on the HDTV through HDMI. Also have my mouse connected to play some big screen angry birds. Gonna do some testing for someone on te Sony forums with keyboards and mouse. You can also plug in a USB harddrive or thumb drive to get extra OTG storage.

so the ps3 controller is plugged into the dock and so is the phone.. and this works with the ion too?
i just looked at more pics of the livedock as far as i could see it just had the one usb female in the back i'm guessing u plug ur charger into the back of the dock? and then that lil dongle goes to the phone? and then the reg USB port on the back is where u plug in the controller? or ur keyboard or mouse? how could u do both at once? would it run a usb hub?

Ok, I've got the Smartdock for the Ion from AT&T today, and tried plugging in my charge cable, and a ps3 dualshock 3 via charge cable, and just get msg about device detected is using too much power, and that's it, nothing pops up, even the instructions aren't a help. The entire reason I got this thing is to use my ps3 controller on it via wire or wireless, and not any of the apps are working for controller gamepad support on games. Can any one simplify and explain what exactly I need to do with this thing?

Just did it with mine and it worked fine. Used the usb cable and charger plug that came with the ion (EP850), some hdmi cable I got online and my PS3 controller and it worked fine. Never had it give me any errors about device using too much power. I would say make sure you are using the EP850 power plug and maybe try different cables.
I'm using the extremely limited length Ion cable. The remote navigation works fine, just not the ps3 controller. Though, seems with my diminished battery life, my phone has more issues than this at the moment. Just biding time and waiting on the Xperia T to release.

I noticed that the Dock won't work if you're charging off of something designed to deliver USB-level power. You'll need a specific charger like the one that came with your Ion (if one didn't come with the dock).
The only problem I was having when trying to game with the ion and SixaxiS was that it was lagging slightly pushing 1080p to my TV, but not flinching at the 720p on the phone. Any suggestions on settings to modify or somesuch?

[Q] PS3 controller on T-Mobile GS3?

So I see people all over the internet connecting PS3 controllers to their android phones for playing games and stuff, and I want in on the action. However, for the life of me, I can not figure out how to do it.
It seems like everyone with a GS3 can just plug in the usb otg cable, plug in the ps3 controller, and it just works. However with me, this isnt the case. In videos I have seen, using the joystick or dpad can select apps and navigate the homescreen, on mine nothing happens. Keyboards work just fine, as do flash drives, however when I use the PS3 controller nothing seems to happen on the phone. The lights on the back of the controller blink, but that's about it.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what to do? I would love to use it WITH a wire and a gameklip so I don't have to root and use the sixaxis app. I just got this phone and I really do not want to risk a brick.
Any help would be appreciated!
PS: Just tested with a USB N64 controller my brother has lying around, and this thing works just fine. Tested it out in paper mario with an emulator

As I said towards the end of my post, I do not want to use this app as I am not fully comfortable rooting the phone yet.
Just plug it in, phone has support for it outta the box. Just grab a micro to usb adapter on amazon for like 60 cents. I'd suggest ordering a few from diff retailers because qc SUCKS.

Hehe I got excited and jumped to reply. Whoops.
I'd still try another adapter and another cable to the ps3 controller. Like I said qc sucks. The OTG cable I got is super loose and has to be convinced to work. The second one I got didnt work period.

As I said in my post, I HAVE an OTG cable. It works just fine with a keyboard, a usb drive, and a USB n64 controller that I have lying around. It is literally only the ps3 controller not working on the phone. It is lighting up, meaning it is plugging in successfully, however unlike the keyboard and n64 controller, it isnt sending button inputs correctly.

I'd hope its a real controller, its the one that came with my ps3! oh and its plugged in with the mini-usb cable that it comes with (controller -> mini usb to usb -> usb otg -> gs3). Haha but yeah i'll try with a 2nd controller when I have a chance, probably shouldve done that first now that youve mentioned it.

Uber frustration with PS3 controller. Wired won't show.

I hae simply given up on wireless via mac. So, I got the gameklip and love the idea but when I plug in the controller, and nothing happens. It says it should show up immediately. It doesn't. Says usb connected and that's it. Input method doesn't show a new device. What I am doing or not doing? Stock rooted JB.

Are you sure your usb adapter cable is compatible with the s3? Try plugging a usb thumb drive in if its no recognized then its not compatible. Also you dont need the six axis app with this phone since ps3 conroller is natively supported.

Correct but that is my problem. I am using the default cable that came with the gameklip. It connects fine to my camera etc. My PC, just will not show on the phone. I have to believe the cable is just faulty.
As for mac address that should be unnecessary for a wired plug in. I got it connected after driving to my friends house and using a windows machine to change the mac address. I still can not connect it physically but without a second cable to test against, I can't say for sure it is the cable but I do believe it to be so.
Only other problem I have now which I can't seem to find is that the games won't accept long presses. Example, in Silent Hill, R1 is side step, but also holding it draws your weapon but nothing happens.Just side steps. I am trying to research if it is just the game itself or a setting I can somehow manipulate. I have never had an Android and in the last 3 weeks have rooted it, overclocked it, undervolted it and through on all the emulators. Too many awesome things to do at once lol
I used this back in the summer when I was playing MGS on the S3:
Granted, it's the wireless setup, but it just don't follow the whole tutorial to get the wired setup.
I have bought two otg adapters the first didnt work for me and the second one i bought from amazon the reviews said it worked for the s3 that one worked.
Just use sixaxis and change the controllers mac address to the phone. It straight up says on gameklips website that the T-Mobile version isn't compatible with the wired option.
I use the wireless setup and it works perfectly. Stock rooted here.

If you have an USB OTG cable then you don't need to mess around with MAC addresses or anything else, very straightforward to pair the PS3 controllers directly on the phone with Sixaxis Controller if you have a USB OTG cable.
Try and plug a mouse or USB key drive in to the OTG cable to see if it turns up. If it doesn't, the cable is faulty.
I bought an OTG cable on eBay that didn't work. The seller sent another when I reported it faulty (I didn't need to send anything back), and the second one worked fine allowing the PS3 controller to work.

[Q] Motorola Lapdock & Note 2?

Just curious if anyone has gotten the keyboard and mouse working on a lapdock with the Note 2. The HDMI works perfectly, but the keyboard and mouse don't work. I don't know if it is possible, but it would be great if someone knows how to make this happen.
Here's a picture of my set up. Everything is connected so it *should* work. I'm thinking that it is a driver issue.
(The lapdock keyboard & mouse work great with Ubuntu 12.04, & Windows 7, & Raspberry Pi (Raspian), so I know that my connections are fine.)
Thanks!
Hmm, guess I'll be able to answer my own question after a bit of research. It seems that the Note 2 (like the S3) can't provide MHL & OTG at the same time.
Not sure if there is a way around this. I wonder if Samsung's SmartDock works, but I don't want to spend $100 to find out.
I'm increasingly interested in trying just this, smart dock + lapdock. Hard to imagine that it wouldn't work, but I wouldn't mind confirmation if anyone has tried it. The impressive low prices on lapdocks in the secondary market kinda offsets (and also kinda shames) the ridiculously overpriced smart dock.
I wonder if the lapdock's battery can provide as much power as the smart dock needs or if I'd have to have an external battery too.

the lap dock should provide 1 amp which is what the atrix needed and the chargers it came with. the s3 has a smart dock and it too only has 1 amp chargers...
plus I don't see the smart dock pulling more than 200mA it has to provide the s3 with at least 750 mA for the charge to survive mhl.
regardless amp drain in android devices is adaptive. even if the dock needs a full 800mA the phone will try to survive with the rest draining battery of course but working none the less just like trying to charge our 2A monster with a Bluetooth 150mA charger. it will try but at best slow down the discharge

Hi I have got an S3 MHL(11pin) HDMI cable. I have tested HDMI & OTG simultaneously.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953061&page=7
It is working perfectly with my 24inch LED monitor and a USB hub containing 2 pen drives and one wireless keyboard & mouse
Now the next move i got atrix lapdock and try to connect the HDMI out from mobile to Lapdock (with necessary adopters) but i am getting only green screen.
Lapdock is working with other HDMI sources....
Any idea on how to get my note 2 HDMI working in my lapdock?...

I've never gotten a green screen so I have no idea. And, you already did the basic troubleshooting. Are you using the Smartdock or something different? If you aren't using the Smartdock, maybe pick one up to see if it works. If it doesn't fix the problem, you can always return the Smartdock.

Based on what you are saying, it sounds like the issue is between your lapdock & MHL cable. Like I said in my previous post, I'd pick up a Samsung SmartDock and see if it works. Just make sure that yo buy from somewhere that you can easily return it in case it doesn't work.

Dear wilbr,
Thanks for the reply.
Do you use the original samsung MHL cable?...
I am using Chinese version of MHL.
HDMI troubleshooting guide says the below....
The green screen problem could be due to HDCP non compliance or syncing problem..

Hi refer my link posted in my earlier reply... it is easy to get the OTG simultaneously with HDMI....
For me i have connected both HDMI and USB together with lap dock.
MY lapdock keyboard and mouse are working fine and i can see it with note 2 screen....
USB port is working fine with 2 pendrives attached......
The only problem is not able to get the screen in lap dock ....only green screen...

Tried with S4. HDMI detected but blank screen.
When playing video once cable is connected S4 screen goes blank but still video is running but lapdock is blank....
Team,
I have updated Android 4.3 + rooted hoping that it should work with lapdock... Still no luck.. still getting green screen.
Any help or update?.
wilbr,
Whats your android version?
Is it rooted or stock rom?...
If you are using Aosp, mhl doesn't work with Aosp.

I've already got a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I'm gonna order a MicroUSB to HDMI adapter and go that route. It'll be cheaper and less to carry. When I travel I'll just be able to plug into the hotel TV and go wild!
There's a YouTube video of someone demonstrating it, just search YouTube for "Samsung Note 2 Mobile Desktop with a Bluetooth keyboard mouse"

i had a similar problem, its was a shotty solder job on the "Budget adapter" (HDMI PINS). i took it apart and cleaned it, works perfectly now.
Plug your phone in, WAIT 5 SECONDS, Then lift up.....If you still have a problem, push F11 on the Lapdock... that manual cycles the resolution modes...at least thats what the manual says....
As far as the USB key board goes, im currently working a solution.... you have to power the MHL THROUGH THE DOCKS usb port using a donated USB cable with the end cut, solder it in directly on the board of the adapter itself, then make a micro usb extension that has the power wires cut and D- D+ reversed... I have a motorola ATRIX and im looking at the board, it looks like they have been reversed....ill post up some pics if i find this to be true.

Also, sorry to bring up and old post, but I have a reason to believe that the ZOOM bluetooth keyboard uses the same 30 pin connector thats inside the lapdock (connects everything together) all the connectors are the same, except on the ZOOM the other end is a BLUETOOTH module...this would solve the whole issue... im about to get one on ebay. Ill report back in a few days.
I WILL NOT LET THIS THING BEAT ME
