I tried to plug in my sixaxis controller and weird things happened.
1st an App came up Livewire I think saying a PS3 controller had been connected. It wanted me to set a.default.
2nd I got am error message saying the device requires too.much power.
What the heck? Is.there some way to hook up a sixaxis? I was using a USB otg cable
I thought a benefit of.this thing was PlayStation certification? And while we are on the subject where is the PlayStation mobile app?
Maybe you can do it via blue tooth somehow? I use a sixaxis on my tablet but never tried phone.

Not sure about plugging it directly into the phone. I have used mine through the livedock from Sony. The ion dock should support it if you get that.

Found the Apps, thanks!
As for the Controller, I did try to plug directly in. No such luck. It worked on my Galaxy Note. I was hoping since this is a Playstation Phone, this would work directly. I may have to buy the dock. This is certainly not the only reason I got the phone but it was a selling point.
It seems my search for the "Perfect Phone" contiues. When I first jumped into Android it was for the Xperia Play. I thought the game controls would make it the best phone. Well, it had other shortcomings as we all know. Chiefly for me was the camera. No Zoom was a big one. I have since been through about 15 phone and tablet combinations including: Galaxy Tab, Note and Skyrocket. Sony Tablet S, Xperia X10 and X10 mini. Motorola Atrix, Xoom, Razr and Backflip, the Acer Iconia Tab, Both Dell Streaks and the Archos G9.
All I really want is something on which I can Game, that also has a good camera. I'm still holding out hope that the ION will fit that bill. Maybe a dock will help.
Dayuum that's a lot of silicone.

Do you think another powered USB hub would work? That seems a little pricey.
im still confused about this LiveDock... is there software or something inside it? or is it NFC Or bluetooth.. their product page seemed incredibly vague other than stating that the possiblities are endless make your phone a mini pc by plugging in a keyboard... really? thats a joke right? couldn't i just use my bluetooth keyboard from my tablet if we ever get the upgrade to ICS. i don't see the benefits of this device

No software, NFC or Bluetooth. With a keyboard and mouse it practically is a mini PC. I have used my livedock with the PS3 remote plugged into it with my Xperia S to play Dead Trigger and Shadowgun on the HDTV through HDMI. Also have my mouse connected to play some big screen angry birds. Gonna do some testing for someone on te Sony forums with keyboards and mouse. You can also plug in a USB harddrive or thumb drive to get extra OTG storage.

so the ps3 controller is plugged into the dock and so is the phone.. and this works with the ion too?
i just looked at more pics of the livedock as far as i could see it just had the one usb female in the back i'm guessing u plug ur charger into the back of the dock? and then that lil dongle goes to the phone? and then the reg USB port on the back is where u plug in the controller? or ur keyboard or mouse? how could u do both at once? would it run a usb hub?

Ok, I've got the Smartdock for the Ion from AT&T today, and tried plugging in my charge cable, and a ps3 dualshock 3 via charge cable, and just get msg about device detected is using too much power, and that's it, nothing pops up, even the instructions aren't a help. The entire reason I got this thing is to use my ps3 controller on it via wire or wireless, and not any of the apps are working for controller gamepad support on games. Can any one simplify and explain what exactly I need to do with this thing?

Just did it with mine and it worked fine. Used the usb cable and charger plug that came with the ion (EP850), some hdmi cable I got online and my PS3 controller and it worked fine. Never had it give me any errors about device using too much power. I would say make sure you are using the EP850 power plug and maybe try different cables.
I'm using the extremely limited length Ion cable. The remote navigation works fine, just not the ps3 controller. Though, seems with my diminished battery life, my phone has more issues than this at the moment. Just biding time and waiting on the Xperia T to release.

I noticed that the Dock won't work if you're charging off of something designed to deliver USB-level power. You'll need a specific charger like the one that came with your Ion (if one didn't come with the dock).
The only problem I was having when trying to game with the ion and SixaxiS was that it was lagging slightly pushing 1080p to my TV, but not flinching at the 720p on the phone. Any suggestions on settings to modify or somesuch?

Guys, I have a question a little bit off topic here.
It is possible to use a keyboard with Gnex using an USB OTG adapter?
And if it is possible to connect the Gnex in the display using the HDMI adapter, while the keyboard is plugged through the OTG adapter. trying to make it easy: gnex plugged in HDMI adapter, HDMI to the display, in the connector that we usually plug the charger I will plug the OTG cable with the keyboard in it.
If this works the battery will run out fast as hell, but I don't know if is possible to do it.

Yes it is possible to use any usb device via otg.
No you can not have HDMI adapter and OTG at the same time.
Bluetooth is your best bet. I got a logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse made for tablets and have a nice case for the keyboard that turns into a stand for your tablet and phone. Also if you have bluetooth on your pc like i do, i use it for that too
Here is the keyboard I got: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tabl...501&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard
Mouse: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tabl...501&sr=8-2&keywords=logitech+android+keyboard
Why did you post this without a link to where you got it? I don't see this card reader for sale anywhere when I searched for it.
These are my thoughts on OP.
Thanks man. I'm avoiding bluetooth stuff. Too many things to charge in the end of the day. So far I was able to connect a mouse and a keyboard to the gnex using the OTG cable and an USB hub. I'll lock for a workaround to this, maybe a USB display or something like that.

I have the same doubtful question with this guy. Just like the ninth poster has said, we can not have HDMI adapter and OTG working at the same time. What about someday there is an another HDMI output on the device ?
I recently upgraded from an x10 to my shiny new ion and just ordered a micro hdmi cable to output pictures/video to my hdtv. I was wondering if it would be possible to also connect a USB OTG cable to the phone so that i could use a mouse or game controller through the USB port for playing games while outputting the video/audio to my hdtv?
Thanks,
Fantus
I would like to know this as well, and it would be nice to have some recommendations for apps that can run different usb devices.
This info is from here
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/01/15/smartdock-for-xperia-ion-hdmi-multimedia-docking-station/
"The SmartDock is broadly similar to the LiveDock docking station, although it has one main difference – the inclusion of an HDMI port. This means that you can dock the Xperia ion into the SmartDock station, connect it via HDMI to your TV and look at photos, watch videos, listen to music or even connect a keyboard/mouse using the two onboard USB ports. It also, obviously, will charge your phone too."
If the dock can do it, should be good to go.

I got the DK20 dock for my ion. The only gripe I have is that it doesn't draw enough power from a PC's USB port to charge the phone. You need to use the plug that comes with the dock or the ion. (I use the ion's charger at work and the plug for my x10 at home.)
A neat upshot is that the USB ports on the back can also be used to charge other devices or host a Flash drive for more storage. ES File Explorer handled the additional storage flawlessly.
I haven't tried a controller by USB yet, but I got the Sixaxis app from the Android Market. Maybe this will make it easier to pair...

I tried it out yesterday.
It really works well. Was able to play "The World Of Goo", using the mouse and viewing it on my samsung 21" monitor which has an hdmi option.
The mouse works pretty well. If you have a usb hub you could even connect a usb keyboard, which works well too.
So I see people all over the internet connecting PS3 controllers to their android phones for playing games and stuff, and I want in on the action. However, for the life of me, I can not figure out how to do it.
It seems like everyone with a GS3 can just plug in the usb otg cable, plug in the ps3 controller, and it just works. However with me, this isnt the case. In videos I have seen, using the joystick or dpad can select apps and navigate the homescreen, on mine nothing happens. Keyboards work just fine, as do flash drives, however when I use the PS3 controller nothing seems to happen on the phone. The lights on the back of the controller blink, but that's about it.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what to do? I would love to use it WITH a wire and a gameklip so I don't have to root and use the sixaxis app. I just got this phone and I really do not want to risk a brick.
Any help would be appreciated!
PS: Just tested with a USB N64 controller my brother has lying around, and this thing works just fine. Tested it out in paper mario with an emulator

As I said in my post, I HAVE an OTG cable. It works just fine with a keyboard, a usb drive, and a USB n64 controller that I have lying around. It is literally only the ps3 controller not working on the phone. I'd hope its a real controller, its the one that came with my ps3! oh and its plugged in with the mini-usb cable that it comes with (controller -> mini usb to usb -> usb otg -> gs3). Haha but yeah i'll try with a 2nd controller when I have a chance, probably shouldve done that first now that youve mentioned it.
I hae simply given up on wireless via mac. So, I got the gameklip and love the idea but when I plug in the controller, and nothing happens. It says it should show up immediately. It doesn't. Says usb connected and that's it. Input method doesn't show a new device. What I am doing or not doing? Stock rooted JB.

Are you sure your usb adapter cable is compatible with the s3? Try plugging a usb thumb drive in if its no recognized then its not compatible. Also you dont need the six axis app with this phone since ps3 conroller is natively supported.

Correct but that is my problem. I am using the default cable that came with the gameklip. It connects fine to my camera etc. My PC, just will not show on the phone. I have to believe the cable is just faulty.
As for mac address that should be unnecessary for a wired plug in. I got it connected after driving to my friends house and using a windows machine to change the mac address. I still can not connect it physically but without a second cable to test against, I can't say for sure it is the cable but I do believe it to be so.
Only other problem I have now which I can't seem to find is that the games won't accept long presses. Example, in Silent Hill, R1 is side step, but also holding it draws your weapon but nothing happens.Just side steps. I am trying to research if it is just the game itself or a setting I can somehow manipulate. I have never had an Android and in the last 3 weeks have rooted it, overclocked it, undervolted it and through on all the emulators. Too many awesome things to do at once lol
I used this back in the summer when I was playing MGS on the S3:
Granted, it's the wireless setup, but it just don't follow the whole tutorial to get the wired setup.
I have bought two otg adapters the first didnt work for me and the second one i bought from amazon the reviews said it worked for the s3 that one worked.
Just use sixaxis and change the controllers mac address to the phone. It straight up says on gameklips website that the T-Mobile version isn't compatible with the wired option.
I use the wireless setup and it works perfectly. Stock rooted here.

If you have an USB OTG cable then you don't need to mess around with MAC addresses or anything else, very straightforward to pair the PS3 controllers directly on the phone with Sixaxis Controller if you have a USB OTG cable.
Try and plug a mouse or USB key drive in to the OTG cable to see if it turns up. If it doesn't, the cable is faulty.
I bought an OTG cable on eBay that didn't work. The seller sent another when I reported it faulty (I didn't need to send anything back), and the second one worked fine allowing the PS3 controller to work.
So, I'm using one of my PS3 controllers to play games on my ZL, over cable with the gameklip. Now I have a bit of a problem, while connected, the ZL charges the controller.
Which annoys me a bit, it would be better if the controller would only use its own internal battery, or would charge the ZL.
So very basically, is it possible to make use of the PS3 controller's battery while connected to the ZL?
Thanks.

it is better to use a wireless ps3 controller, basically if wired, the battery of your ZL will quickly drain because it will transfer to your PS3 controller.

I don't think the PS3 controller drains the battery of the Xperia phone or tablet that much.
That being said, you can use an official PS3 controller over Bluetooth (wireless.) The Xperia Z, ZL phones and the Sony tablets have Xperia Connectivity built-in. There's a long list of Sony devices that have Xperia connectivity too. Stay away from the knock off PS3 controllers from Wal-Mart, etc. They might be a bit cheaper, but there's no telling how well or not well they will work.
As a first time setup, you will need 2 cables: a USB On the Go cable to pair the phone or table to the controller and the mini USB cable that comes with the controller if you bought it with a PS3 system. The stand alone controllers at Best Buy, etc. do not have this cable. You can find USB on OTG and mini usb cables pretty much anywhere like Amazon, eBay, etc.
Once you have all the parts, you go into the Settings in Android and select Xperia Connectivity and then Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller. Then follow the instructions and you're done. You don't need to connect the controller to the phone with the cables after that.

That is not how the USB interface is designed. Since the phone is the host device, the phone must be the one to supply the power according the USB spec. The reason for this is because the host device needs to power things like flash drives and hard drives.
The reason your phone charges when it is plugged into a computer is because the computer acts as the host device and has to supply power. This is why USB cables have different ends USB-A, USB-B, USB-C, etc. The connector end usually determines which device will be the host.
Hope this clarifies things.

You can just bluetooth pair your DS3 to the ZL and then use the powerbank as an auxiliary power source. Since the ZL is certified to be used with the DS3, you can have full control of the controller wirelessly. Did you know that once the controller is paired you can just press the PS button and it will turn on and auto pair? You can even turn off the controller from the phone's notification bar.
The powerbank should have a full sized USB port that makes it the device that supplies the power. It would be a cumbersome setup but will let you game on the go for longer.
Maybe you can stick some velcro tape to the gameklip spine and stick the powerbank to that. It will make the rig very top heavy, but if you can live with it, then it's worth a try.

You can just bluetooth pair your DS3 to the ZL and then use the powerbank as an auxiliary power source. Since the ZL is certified to be used with the DS3, you can have full control of the controller wirelessly. Yea I know that, it tells you while you set it up. I would love to use the BT option with a powerbank, but the emulator I use to play roms doesn't recognize the PS3 over BT, which is just utter BS if you ask me.
I can live with it being a bit top heavy, I even have plans to attach speakers to the klip.

I'm still trying to picture a wiring topography that would serve your needs.
I found this and hope it will help you with your rig.
