Hello all! Here are the directions with links on how to go back to stock L900VPALJ1 FW. It will be provided for everyone because playing with these phones can sometimes go south and you always want to be able to go back to stock Please follow these directions to flash this:
Download the stock tar - (mirror link) MD5SUM: d42d84446d5ce832999ebb92f21f56b0
Download Odin - (mirror link)
Download the Drivers - (mirror link)
Install the drivers, reboot if prompted.
Extract the .zip you downloaded from Step 1 and remember that location.
Start Odin by right-clicking on it and choose "Run as Administrator"
Go into download mode - power off the phone, then press and hold Vol Down + Home + Power. Press Vol Up when prompted with the warning about flashing custom software.
Plug in the phone, make sure Odin recognizes it (first box should light up, indicating a device was found)
Click the PDA button and chose the .md5 file you extracted earlier.
Click Start
It is important that you DO NOT close the program, unplug the cable, or really even touch the phone while this runs. The phone will reboot on its own when it's done flashing.

Awesome viperboy! I was starting to wonder if people were going to be able to download these anymore, since it's very important to keep them on hand in case you mess up your phone. My old links to the deleted thread stopped working, and now I can replace them with this one.

I'm getting an MD5 checksum invalid when flashing this via Odin, is anyone else getting that problem?
The checksum checks out for the zip file. I have downloaded it 4 different times and each time the checksum on the zip works but the tar comes up invalid in Odin
Odin Log:

I got the same error with this file after multiple attempts. Found an image that worked here...
Hope this works for you, good luck! :fingers-crossed:
Just to set this straight, I should've credited wwjoshdew for that image post. I got it from his how-to video. It saved my bricked phone and was just tryin to pay it forward. Much apologies for any trouble caused!!!!
Way to post sextape's image without crediting him!
I can definitely see where you've earned the credit there.

Sextape removed himself from the forum and the link to sxtp doesn't work. Where did he get the stock tar from? Did he make it? We don't know if viperboy got it from the same person or place that the "guest" from the other thread got theirs from.

Proof that it's his please?
But I did remove the link anyway. I dont believe the tar to be his but I will not thank or credit anyone that asks for money before helping the community. Not only is that against XDA rules, but that is just being a douche. Imagine if a ROM/kernel dev did that. It wouldn't fly. Why? Because you have other choices, but choices were limited with only one person getting these files. Now, it shouldn't be as much of an issue.
I will post up a different version of the tar that I know has nothing to do with sextape's version, just for you honey

I don't see how sextape saying that he wasn't going to post 4.2 yet (until he tested it thoroughly) since due to the nature of test builds, it may not work on factory devices, is asking for money. However, regardless of your opinion on him (asking for money and what not), it is plagiarism to post something that he acquired as your own. While he didn't make it (Samsung did and he never claimed he did), without him, you (as well as the entire community) would not have the file, so why don't you give him some respect and stop being so entitled to everything. You are not entitled to his leaks. He is giving them out to the community because he is a nice guy. So what if he feels like the community could help him out a little bit? So what if he thinks that it can be a give and take relationship? He's given his fair share, why can't anyone give him something for it? Is that a crime against humanity? Because if so, I advise you to take a good long look at the post above mine with its two donate buttons. Why do his standards not apply to you? Why can you ask for donations but not him? What makes you so goddamn special?

The MD5 hash on his and your AndroidFileHost link are the exact same. He uploaded a couple days before, so I feel like you can put two and two together there, don't you, Derek?

Hi.
He was asking for donations up front. With a supposed goal. The goal amount was never listed, and you aren't allowed to ask for donations up front. Viperboy still releases his work with out donations.

As a dev, you are thread sh1tting and you should know better. I don't know how you even wondered out of your little sandbox and got over here. I will continue to answer you until someone comes and cleans this up...
Does my OP ask for donations? No. Did I say I wouldn't release something until money was paid? No. As a reminder for you, please read the XDA rules. Let me quote the important section for you...
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.

As a Recognized Developer you are held to higher standards on XDA as others. Proper credit needs to be posted when using or posting other's work. It would be nice to answer Moderator PMs as well. Sextape asked to have his account removed, he was not banned. If you downloaded the file from his former post then there is no reason not to give a thanks. No XDA action was taken other than his thread unapproved. If you disagree with his actions that is a different issue than giving proper thanks and credit as required by XDA rules.
Thank you for your cooperation
Friendly Neighborhood Moderator
Edit: I see that you claim to have been unaware of the source of your original file yet also did not thank the "other" source that got the exact same file for you.
Also enough of the sextape debate. This is not the place for it.

And as I said, someone said it was his, I was unaware (and not even sure that it was accurate), but I removed it anyway. The next file that will be up has 0 to do with him, so no credit to him is needed nor will it be in the OP.
I read your PM on my phone but forgot to respond, sorry about that.

Let me remind you to think how you're going to approach people; being offensive is not what we want to see here - and consider this a friendly warning.
Apart from that: A LEAK belongs to NO ONE apart from the manufacturer who actually holds the copyright on the firmware. You complaining about "it's sextape's, not your's" is totally, absolutely, irrelevant. If you're so inclined to point out possible ownership you well better look into the terms of copyright and intellectual property first and then you may point out that it actually belongs to Samsung.
Also, just as a another friendly reminder - THIS IS A DEVELOPMENT THREAD! If you feel like playing sextape fanboi take it to IRC, Facebook, Twitter or whatever service else the world doesn't care about.

It would be nice if posts with new roms came with an md5 hash so that if you manage to get it from a difference source you know if its genuine and not some harmful file.
there are plenty of freeware md5 hash utilities.
do you not trust xda people......just look at who posted it. if the poster is not a repected member then don't trust it.
if you are a member here for a while we all know who puts the good stuff out.
no thats exactly my point... people trust xda developers. especially if the person is a trusted member. all they would have to do is post the md5 hash and if they get it from another source such as searching rapidshare they would know if it is authentic or not.
My ROMs are packaged in self-extracting executables which automatically checks if this is the authentic archive and if it hasn't been corrupted, so I don't think that we need to post an MD5 hash.
If you have some worries, download only from links posted by their author or mirrors posted by trusted people.

Yea, but the question is;
'Are you really a 'repected member' ?
I have noticed that there is a large amount of double posting & people simply not following the rules in this section. There is like one moderator for that section & he is a developer, and of course spending his time on that, all of the rest are retired.. We need more mods there (At least two of them)
So please add a some mods there, I would even be more then happy helping out. It is just needed..

Okay, Thanks!
I tried to PM mikechannon about the issue that is still occurring on the Vibrant forums.
Instead of it getting better, it seems to be getting worse..
"There is constant flaming/off topic going on there. I have posted about this issue before, and the MOD's just said to report those post.
Even though I have been reporting those post that contain cursing/advertising/off topic/spam/etc they some how don't seem to get moderated.
In some threads there have been several "Clean Up's" yet there still seems to be flaming & off topic.. Once again :/
I know there is one moderator that is for that section specifically (Krook6023) and there is sometimes another moderator that comes around, I can't think of his name at the moment.."
Is there any more we can do?

The latest Android sections are a mess, plain and simple. The sheer number of users with Galaxy devices in general is a lot. We have many mods scattered throughout the site who are not online 24/7, so if we don't catch something, simply report it and be patient. We cannot stop the flaming from happening, but we do our best.
We see all Reported Posts, no exceptions but we evaluate the severity and act based on it.

ROMbot made this forum (i think he did since he's the only poster, besides mine) and copied and pasted all the roms on here, xda, with no credit or links to op from here. I already started a thread there calling him out on this... you all should do the same, unless you don't mind....

it seems he is atleast linking the roms to their original threads here on xda.
look here http://android-addicts.org/board/sh...-eVoKINGS-GINGERBREAD-project_X-v1.0-12-26-10 and see how he has a small bit of text stating "ROM Details" and then a link to xda
i don't feel he is doing the right thing at all, cuz you should ALWAYS ask to repost someones work somewhere else.
But i don't believe ROMbot is trying to take all the credit for the ROMs, just trying to make an easy repository for people to go to. XDA has been getting crowded and some of these newer members tend to be ungrateful for all the hard work.

Ehh all he did was straight copy the dev's OP's for there rom. He left all the links and everything the exact same. Hell even the donation link for EvoZone was left in the post.
He didn't really take the rom, change the name and claim it was his. it is getting the devs work more publicity kinda, though i see your point in that it would be nice to have a header saying so n so over at xda made this. That is one thing left out that should deff be there.

That's cool, it just feels shady. He should get permission for posting other peoples work I would think. I'm not sure if he gets anything for the traffic that site generates.. but if he makes money for people coming to his site then it is definitely not a good thing to do without permission.

it seems he is atleast linking the roms to their original threads here on xda.
look here http://android-addicts.org/board/sh...-eVoKINGS-GINGERBREAD-project_X-v1.0-12-26-10 and see how he has a small bit of text stating "ROM Details" and then a link to xda
i don't feel he is doing the right thing at all, cuz you should ALWAYS ask to repost someones work somewhere else.
But i don't believe ROMbot is trying to take all the credit for the ROMs, just trying to make an easy repository for people to go to. XDA has been getting crowded and some of these newer members tend to be ungrateful for all the hard work.

That's what I think... there's so many **** threads in here from noons asking how to root.. maybe you just wanna download the latest rom. Well there you go. And I can't see what we'd be able to do to stop this

I went through every thread (inc threads) and not one link or mention to the devs. I figured he did the same with the evo threads. Either way, he's giving people old links with no updates. If you notice, he is only copying and pasting the first post of all these threads. Lots of these threads have updates and add ons on the second and third post. I highly doubt he is going to keep all these up to date.

Yea, it seems shady. I'm guessing he is making some kind of income with the traffic that site generates.. and that would be mega shady.
F*ck it, lets make a forum/website called ROM-FINAL and only post those roms which the developer has claimed as the Final release with bugs and kinks all worked out!
Who's with me!?

I then select the up[date stuff.... and then it spews this error 7...
any idea's on how to fix this? all the other updates from 4.0 to 4.1 and from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 with CWM went just fine...

are you flashing the right version rom for your device? all gnex arent the same. you cant flash a gsm rom on a verizon device for example. also, do you have the latest cwm recovery installed? try twrp recovery. also, have you tried just redownloading the rom and flashing again?

A useless post in a useless thread is rain in the ocean. Much like this post. However, status 7 error is easily one of the top 5 beat to death questions on xda. So I'd say, in the interest of usefulness, informing OP of his folly is progress towards sparing the community useless threads, whilst posting the actual information, for the ten thousandth time on xda, is actually not encouraging anything. I call 'em like I see 'em.

if we go your route, then just about every issue in human existence has been written about, posted about, talked about, etc. then there is no point in having any kind of forums, from child raising, to car buying, to xda. might as well just shut them all down because all information is available somewhere already, from a library, to the internet, to stone slabs. but we are all imperfect humans, that do imperfect things. just remember, anything that you will ever ask in your lifetime, or have asked, has been asked already and answered. go search for it instead of bugging your family, friends, teachers, government officials, doctors, or stranger that walks past you on the street with any kind of question.

no its not. there have been 10 threads that i know of dealing with the same thing in the past 2 days.
In the grand scheme of things, and an idealized, purely general, take on existence, you're unquestionably correct. But that excellent segue into reclassifying a cited instance aside, this topic hardly warrants profound defense, in the interest of benevolent information exchange. To your response I would say that this is more akin to asking the manufacturer of your product to read you the instructions. A needless request for assistance, for something that has been more than reasonably supplied already.

I see your point, but I see it more like having a 1,000 page instruction manual and asking someone (or the manufacturer) where the info is located in the book (that's the core idea of a Table of Contents). Just because someone has all the data in their possession, doesn't mean they know where to look or could really understand what they're even reading. But asking someone for help with understanding the instruction manual is totally normal (that's the exact idea behind why there are THOUSANDS of tutorial videos on Youtube and tutorial sites in general). So if someone said "Hey, where in this 1,000 page manual is the answer I'm looking for?" An answer of "The info is there in the book, go look for it" would be pointless.
Back on topic, with error 7, just reboot the recovery (preferably using TWRP) and try again.
^^
And, update TWRP. They've fixed it.

any request for assistance is not needless. the op has a need anyways. i am more than happy to assist anyone in need of assistance. if youre not, you dont have to, no one is making you.
I can see you're train of thought, and I can appreciate that. In any case, you're also correct about getting our young status 7's thread back on track lol didn't mean to hijack.

I cant find CWM Touch that will work as an install with Odin. What is the easiest way to get the .img file to flash to the phone to replace TWRP?
Thanks.

Please, whatever you do, do NOT look in any threads in Q&A, General, or Development. Also, I beg you, do not use the search function. It may direct you to threads that tell you to download ROM Manager to get CWM, or you may even find Odin flashable versions of TWRP or any of the other variations built upon CWM.

Someone a quite bit more friendly and human than you, sent me a link. I did look, I couldn't find it.
So kindly, F off.
Clockwork Mod does not have a compatible version within the app. Tried that. Then your advice about flashing TWRP? Ya... You should learn how to read instead of trying to be a funny wiseass.
Someone far more kind than your 12 year old self, sent me a link to an odin flashable CWM Touch. End of story.
Grow up.

I'm not trying to carry this on any farther, but when the answers to a question are found with the bare minimum of "searching" I find it disgusting. The answer was in the official CWM Thread in Development for God's sake! I mean, seriously. That doesn't scream "someone with an honest problem who deserves my kindness and sincere willingness to help". It says "treat this person like a two year old and guide him like a small child."

Again, grow up. Just because you find something incredibly fast with your superior aptitude, and humbling perception, not everyone has the time to do so. The guide for rooting linked to an old version of CWM that hardly worked on my phone. The CWM website had img files, which I can't flash in ODIN.
Just a little growing up is all you need. Then maybe you can learn to treat people with respect instead of like a 12 year old arguing with his parents about getting grounded.
Seriously, sorry I ruined your night and instigated you with my clearly inferior question. You must forgive me.

Okay first off, he didn't direct you to look in any guide for rooting. He directed you to look in the official CWM Recovery thread in the development section. You will find your answer in there. He gave you good advice and you are giving him grief because you don't like the manner in which he gave it to you.
And he's right. You should search before asking. Remember, you are the one who wants the recovery. You should do the leg work to find it. Lordcheeto's recovery is probably working just fine. So he doesn't need to do the search work to go find a new version. You do, so you search.
There are plenty of other methods of getting CWM Touch you have multiple options that don't involve Odin. But you don't seem to want to listen to anything but Odin options, which is the most complex option. You can flash a CWM Touch Recovery ZIP from any other recovery. You can pay to download the CWM Touch from the ROM Manager app and support the developers who did all the hard work. Or you can use Flashify app to flash the IMG files containing the recovery.
Also saying that you don't have the time to search for the thing you need for your phone, and suggesting that other people should do the searching fcor you is basically the same as saying that you think other peoples' time is less valuable than yours. That is a tad offensive and is not going to encourage anyone to help you.
Ok bud Whatever you say. He could have simply not replied, skipped the thread, or better yet, posted a link to the thread where I could find the information I needed.
Instead, he took the road of condescending tone, and I replied as such.
Pretty simple concept really.
You guys have a great night

I think you are missing the point. Its his condescending tone and manner in which he communicated it. This is really simple. Do you need further explaining? I realize you are probably best buddies with him and taking this opportunity to defend his honor, but lets use a little common sense.
Thanks.

I've never spoken to that guy before and don't know him anymore than I know you.
From my completely neutral position on this matter I think you are the one coming off as 'less than welcoming' in this thread.

Less than welcoming when I was the one with the question? Makes sense. Ill be sure to reply to questions on these boards in the Q&A section with childish condescending text from now on. Its obviously too difficult, and highly inappropriate to treat someone with a question, with any form of respect.
Proper reply: "Hey man, try checking the rooting tutorial, someone posted a link to an ODIN flashable tar file. Good luck!"
See how easy that is? But lets defend the guy.

Oh yeah, one of the rules is be respectful and help new members without being condescending.
