What is the easiest way to get CWM Touch on this phone? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I cant find CWM Touch that will work as an install with Odin. What is the easiest way to get the .img file to flash to the phone to replace TWRP?
Thanks.

Please, whatever you do, do NOT look in any threads in Q&A, General, or Development. Also, I beg you, do not use the search function. It may direct you to threads that tell you to download ROM Manager to get CWM, or you may even find Odin flashable versions of TWRP or any of the other variations built upon CWM.

Someone a quite bit more friendly and human than you, sent me a link. I did look, I couldn't find it.
So kindly, F off.
Clockwork Mod does not have a compatible version within the app. Tried that. Then your advice about flashing TWRP? Ya... You should learn how to read instead of trying to be a funny wiseass.
Someone far more kind than your 12 year old self, sent me a link to an odin flashable CWM Touch. End of story.
Grow up.

I'm not trying to carry this on any farther, but when the answers to a question are found with the bare minimum of "searching" I find it disgusting. The answer was in the official CWM Thread in Development for God's sake! I mean, seriously. That doesn't scream "someone with an honest problem who deserves my kindness and sincere willingness to help". It says "treat this person like a two year old and guide him like a small child."

Again, grow up. Just because you find something incredibly fast with your superior aptitude, and humbling perception, not everyone has the time to do so. The guide for rooting linked to an old version of CWM that hardly worked on my phone. The CWM website had img files, which I can't flash in ODIN.
Just a little growing up is all you need. Then maybe you can learn to treat people with respect instead of like a 12 year old arguing with his parents about getting grounded.
Seriously, sorry I ruined your night and instigated you with my clearly inferior question. You must forgive me.

Okay first off, he didn't direct you to look in any guide for rooting. He directed you to look in the official CWM Recovery thread in the development section. You will find your answer in there. He gave you good advice and you are giving him grief because you don't like the manner in which he gave it to you.
And he's right. You should search before asking. Remember, you are the one who wants the recovery. You should do the leg work to find it. Lordcheeto's recovery is probably working just fine. So he doesn't need to do the search work to go find a new version. You do, so you search.
There are plenty of other methods of getting CWM Touch you have multiple options that don't involve Odin. But you don't seem to want to listen to anything but Odin options, which is the most complex option. You can flash a CWM Touch Recovery ZIP from any other recovery. You can pay to download the CWM Touch from the ROM Manager app and support the developers who did all the hard work. Or you can use Flashify app to flash the IMG files containing the recovery.
Also saying that you don't have the time to search for the thing you need for your phone, and suggesting that other people should do the searching fcor you is basically the same as saying that you think other peoples' time is less valuable than yours. That is a tad offensive and is not going to encourage anyone to help you.

Ok bud Whatever you say. He could have simply not replied, skipped the thread, or better yet, posted a link to the thread where I could find the information I needed.
Instead, he took the road of condescending tone, and I replied as such.
Pretty simple concept really.
You guys have a great night

I think you are missing the point. Its his condescending tone and manner in which he communicated it. This is really simple. Do you need further explaining? I realize you are probably best buddies with him and taking this opportunity to defend his honor, but lets use a little common sense.
Thanks.

Less than welcoming when I was the one with the question? Makes sense. Ill be sure to reply to questions on these boards in the Q&A section with childish condescending text from now on. Its obviously too difficult, and highly inappropriate to treat someone with a question, with any form of respect.
Proper reply: "Hey man, try checking the rooting tutorial, someone posted a link to an ODIN flashable tar file. Good luck!"
See how easy that is? But lets defend the guy.

Yeah, well all I can find are rooted ROMs, which are not what the OP is looking for. Care to point out where I can find a link to download the final Froyo update here?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=41591391&pp=25

Dude, no need to be a jerk... Anyone, if that download stops working, you can download it here: http://www.google.com/buzz/superlinkx/PiHU4FDrj6n/For-those-interested-I-have-included-the-final
Be warned that this update will not flash over the leaked beta update. It will ONLY flash over 1.47, so be warned. It won't brick your phone, but you will waste about 10 minutes of your life just to see it fail. HTC said they plan to have a solution for those who flashed early within the coming days.

Why the %#$% do you have MP5 gems as a damn Holy paladin? Freaking scrub.

Just an idea here... You might avoid the so-called "jerks" by posting your Question in the Questions and Answers Forum.
Let's use a little deductive reasoning here. Why post in this forum? Don't give me some BS answer, saying something like "it relates to development," because that's a lie and you know it. Truth be told without beating around the bush... The Development Forum is more populated, and you think that because you're posting here, it's more likely to get answered quicker.
Sure, it's more populated, but there-in lies the problem. Because it's the most popular forum, these so-called "jerks" are ALSO more populated here. So your probability of having a so-called "jerk" reply is far greater. You're also going to get a more rash response simply because of posting in the wrong forum and giving a reason to these so-called "jerks" to flame you.
Not only that, but those that would normally offer the help, are then turned away from offering the help because of your posting in the wrong forum. So you're not only attracting the unwanted crowd, but you're turning away the ones that would help you.
Developers are in the development forum for that exact reason... development. You people think they don't visit the Q&A Forum at all. This is untrue. Besides that, this is a community. There are those that aren't skilled enough to be a dev but skilled enough to offer the help and point you in the right direction, and not all of them, but most of those people visit the Q&A Forum regularly.

Amen.
I regularly go to the Q&A forum to give back what i can. I can also tell you that the above is correct. the people flamed the most are those posting in the wrong forum. If you search and let them know you try people a re alot more forgiving int he Q&A forum then they are in development. Think of development as your library and Q&A as the class room.
If you are unsure if it should be in development it probably shouldnt be. If it doesnt pertain specifically to a rom and isnt asked in that Roms thread until you get to a level where you can better determine where it goes ... ask in in Q&A. Best advice i can give to people with questions.

You're right. I should have been less mean. It's just that... when people come to development with questions seeking answers, it just doesn't seem right. I'd like to apologize. And I'm not gonna go back and edit it to make it better. I'm going to straight-up apologize.
I'm sorry for talking down.

[Q] What does "Dodexed" mean?

Okay I rooted my EVO about a week or so ago and Im running the Frost ROM... I like it but I would like to check out some other ROMs and what kind of addons or MODs that are available... I keep running across the term "dodexed" and "odexed"(?) i think is what it was...Can some one please explain to me what that means...
Also what is the differance in Sense and non sense ROMs... What is aosp??
Any clairification would be helpful...
Thanks
Dude you have over one hundred posts. And they're all questions about this and that. Are you aware of the fact that there is a search bar for these forums. I have seen this question asked a lot of times. Hell I even wondered but I searched before starting a thread about it.

haha deathsled beat me to it. seriously though... i believe (not sure) that this is correct.
dont quote me on it. correct me if i'm wrong.
so each apk has a matching .odex file that contains stuff for it. if you flash a theme a theme (altering framework-res.apk or other app) then the odex and apk dont match and you get system failiure. so odexed roms are unthemeable. i think thats about right. google it (thanks deathsled)
ahhh got it. google is friend. posted by berzerker

so baisically odex is compressed more and deodexed allows for themeing.

Seems like this kind of thing is all to common in the open source scene. Same type response was given on email lists when someone asked for help back in the 90s when trying to stuff linux on an old 386 box for the s&gs. Open source is teh 1337z!!!1! I had a million questions in the begining and I only posted a few specific questions... and even though one can search the forums for an answer to a specific problem, more than some ppl here on XDA can't explain things clearly enough to be of any help to any one - skipping steps and being vague doesn't really help any one but yourself to raise your post count. 1. http://bit.ly/dGelUt

3. http://bit.ly/eTznEb
All of which a google search would have helped you out. This is development section so I understand why you posted this here. But I think you should take a step back since given those three questions could have been found out on your own, shows you have no self motivation yet. Development is a community effort I agree, but there isn't much hand holding. Posting this only showed that your looking for someone to do it for you. That isn't the way to go.

Then maybe he will next time direct his "lazy" questions to the Q&A. Sorry I'm a blunt person. If you want you can look through the 3000 pages on the compile GB thread I posted and look at the tons of advice I give. You can also see me tell people the truth, some people don't like it. Some people get it, understand what I am telling them, and better themselves.

PS. I did answer his questions.

If you have a bad taste in your mouth then your should probably brush your teeth. Then move on. Even the OP understood. Have a great weekend.
Brushed my teeth this morning but thanks for the advice. Seems you always need that last little word in there somewhere which is fine because not offense taken by your comments. Just defending a fellow geekdroider like myself from the devs that think their crap don't stink. Jump off your high horse and work on you rom creations because I don't use em anyway. Thanks buddy have a great weekend and happy droiding.

Lol to up above but I understand where both of you are coming from. OP I wouldn't mind assisting.you if you need some help also. I just made my first rom two days ago took a month but the people on here a very helpful even if they are blunt lol I think they give the best help because they make you.think.about if you seriously want to become a dev the nice ones are also great help I don't think.the community would be as strong.if we didn't have blunt people that the nice people get into it with. They kinda go hand and hand lol they give helpful info when arguing and not even realize.

Building my own ROM from AOSP

Hey all,
Just curious - are there any tutorials anywhere that walk you through building your own ROM for the EVO from the AOSP project? I'd like to get into building my own so that I don't have to rely on other's updates, etc.
Thanks!
Ricky

Seriously? Does everyone need to include the line, "I've already tried searching." in the original post so that an absolutely unnecessary and obvious answer isn't the first one posted? If so, then..
I've already tried searching.
I continue to come up with bull**** posts about building AOSP for other phones. I've searched all morning and haven't come up with anything, hence, the creation of the thread. Thanks for attempting to be a smartass, though.

Actually yes, it would help that we know you've already searched. Forgive me for seeing that the vast majority of people who post questions do so without searching and not knowing that you, miraculously, were not amongst said majority. Thanks for succeeding at being an ungrateful prick.
And just an FYI, seeing as how you apparently have no experience on the topic, at least that's what your poorly specified post implied, you would be able to learn a lot about the process of creating your own ROM from the search results I posted. Just because it doesn't say "HTC Evo" on it doesn't mean there is no experience or wisdom to be gained from it. Try doing what the rest of us do. Read what resources are available and then start experimenting with it until you can find someone who can give more specific direction. There will be difference between phones but you can still get the basis for working with Android based systems. Otherwise, we'll be seeing another thread like this from you when you get a new phone. I tried to help as best I could. I'm sorry it wasn't to your satisfaction.

It was actually far from being satisfactory. Forgive me, but why in the holy hell would I learn to develop for a phone that I don't have? Honestly. Once the source is built and created, what am I going to do with said source? Not a damn thing. I have no phone to install it to. Building for a phone that I own would be more help to me then building for a phone that I do not own.
Maybe if most of the people around here took a second to actually help someone, there wouldn't be a problem with the vast majority of smart asses replying with a search link. Don't try and convince yourself that you're being helpful and expect me to say "thank you." You're far from it.
Search for dsixda rom kitchen. That will help you get started.

You're right. All Android phones run on the Linux based Android operating system. So what on earth could you possibly learn from a thread about a phone that uses the same operating system? Like I said, the phones each have some differences but the overall basis of how the system works is the same. So yes, the threads I posted are helpful. They contain enough information to get you started in the right direction until you can find information that reviews the specific differences that you can then apply to the Evo. If you could get over yourself for a minute or two in order to open your mind you'd be able to realize that. You're the one that came here with questions. Seems kind of naive to pick and choose which answer you want to hear and then whine about the ones you don't understand.
Either way, I gave you something helpful. It's up to you whether or not you choose to use it. Best of luck to you.
Edit: People on this site, myself included, do nothing but help each other. If you can't see that then the problem is not with this site. The problem is with you.

I have been wondering this same question as I pondered to develop my own ROM, this link was actually helpful. Sometimes people overlook things and its helpful to get a second opinion, which is why I believe this entire Q&A thread exists. So it is puzzling to me why would come here to get a second opinion and then ***** out the first person to try to help.
I just can't understand why you ask for help and then criticize help... And this is why XDA needs a "Negative Thanks" button.

The only problem with a negative thanks button is that people like UndeadCircus would be pressing negative thanks all the time because they didn't like, or don't understand, the answer they were given. People are a lot more willing to toss out negativity than they are optimism and gratitude. In the end I see it like this; My responsibility here is to help others to the best of my ability. People can either be open minded to the help given here and see all the opportunities laid before them or they can remain closed minded and in the end not gain as much knowledge as they otherwise would have. Either way, I've done my job and the decision on whether or not to take advantage of it is on them.
@OP
There are two threads in evo development about your question.

It said it finished the download, it loads the clockwork recovery...
I then select the up[date stuff.... and then it spews this error 7...
any idea's on how to fix this? all the other updates from 4.0 to 4.1 and from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 with CWM went just fine...

are you flashing the right version rom for your device? all gnex arent the same. you cant flash a gsm rom on a verizon device for example. also, do you have the latest cwm recovery installed? try twrp recovery. also, have you tried just redownloading the rom and flashing again?

A useless post in a useless thread is rain in the ocean. Much like this post. However, status 7 error is easily one of the top 5 beat to death questions on xda. So I'd say, in the interest of usefulness, informing OP of his folly is progress towards sparing the community useless threads, whilst posting the actual information, for the ten thousandth time on xda, is actually not encouraging anything. I call 'em like I see 'em.

if we go your route, then just about every issue in human existence has been written about, posted about, talked about, etc. then there is no point in having any kind of forums, from child raising, to car buying, to xda. might as well just shut them all down because all information is available somewhere already, from a library, to the internet, to stone slabs. but we are all imperfect humans, that do imperfect things. just remember, anything that you will ever ask in your lifetime, or have asked, has been asked already and answered. go search for it instead of bugging your family, friends, teachers, government officials, doctors, or stranger that walks past you on the street with any kind of question.

no its not. there have been 10 threads that i know of dealing with the same thing in the past 2 days.
In the grand scheme of things, and an idealized, purely general, take on existence, you're unquestionably correct. But that excellent segue into reclassifying a cited instance aside, this topic hardly warrants profound defense, in the interest of benevolent information exchange. To your response I would say that this is more akin to asking the manufacturer of your product to read you the instructions. A needless request for assistance, for something that has been more than reasonably supplied already.
Subscribed.

I see your point, but I see it more like having a 1,000 page instruction manual and asking someone (or the manufacturer) where the info is located in the book (that's the core idea of a Table of Contents). Just because someone has all the data in their possession, doesn't mean they know where to look or could really understand what they're even reading. But asking someone for help with understanding the instruction manual is totally normal (that's the exact idea behind why there are THOUSANDS of tutorial videos on Youtube and tutorial sites in general). So if someone said "Hey, where in this 1,000 page manual is the answer I'm looking for?" An answer of "The info is there in the book, go look for it" would be pointless.
Back on topic, with error 7, just reboot the recovery (preferably using TWRP) and try again.
^^
And, update TWRP. They've fixed it.

any request for assistance is not needless. the op has a need anyways. i am more than happy to assist anyone in need of assistance. if youre not, you dont have to, no one is making you.
I can see you're train of thought, and I can appreciate that. In any case, you're also correct about getting our young status 7's thread back on track lol didn't mean to hijack.
