Lets say your Galaxy Nexus has a problem and is still covered with warranty and you call up Google for them to replace it. Do they send you a phone first and then you send them back the Galaxy nexus? Or you send your Galaxy Nexus and then they send you a refurbished?
you send it to Samsung, who then fixes your phone and ships it back to you. if you are lucky and have a repair depot near by, you might get same day service going there. the one in Montreal Canada offers this level of service

Aww that sucks, guess I would have to wait. Verizon sends you a device and then you send yours back to Verizon. Sometimes these companies find an excuse not to fix your device like saying you had water damage, or sometimes the device cracks while you send it in.

when did you get your phone? If it is within best buys return policy window, take it to them. If not, you can still try them or Bell.
Look for one of the stores with a technical support area and they can either replace your phone there or at least get a new one ordered to you.

Hello everybody!
I just got a Galaxy Nexus today, and found out the WiFi on it doesn't work.
Every time I try to turn it on, it just hangs at the "Turning WiFi on" screen, and no networks ever come up.
The phone came with CM9, and flashing back to stock 4.0.1 ITL41D didn't help either.
I also tried doing a battery pull, and draining the battery all the way. I also tried clearing the cache and flashing a UG North American radio, since I have the Canadian GT-I9250M. The wifi FXR app on the market didn't work either, which wasn't surprising, but I thought it was worth a try.
I bought this phone off of craigslist, so there's no warranty on it
Any ideas out there? All help is appreciated.
EDIT: I will try flashing to stock 4.0.2 ICL53F and post if that fixes it.
Definitely try completely re-flashing everything to stock...
And this is a warning to people to not buy phones on craigslist without a serious inspection. I'd be especially weary of phones that come rooted and ROMed too...

No matter what third party seller sells the phone there should still be a manufacturer warranty through the manufacturer. There should still be a 1 year manufacturer warranty through Samsung for that phone and since that phone hasn't been out yet you should be able to send it to them to fix it. Just call customer service, tell them what the problem is and give them the serial number so that they can arrange for you to send the phone to a samsung repair center. I had the same thing happen with my nexus s 4g that i bought from a guy on ebay. The sound board started acting up a month after i got it so i sent it to sansung.

If its a GSM model, Samsung won't take a warranty claim from the US unless you're extremely lucky. They don't sell it in the US, you'd need to use an importer to handle the warranty.

They will direct you to where you do need to sell. There has to be a way to use that manufacturer warranty.

Sorry but there isn't. Samsung doesn't support the GSM model in the US. If you have a i9250 in the US, you didn't buy it through an official channel and they have no obligation to support it with a warranty. This is why using a reputable importer is so important.
Like I said, there's a chance, but there is no guarantee at all on their part.

I'm thinking they will just refer you to Samsung. Although they are fairly quick at getting you a replacement.
Go direct through Samsung instead. And the reason they are picky is the manufacturer requires the information for warranty.

They will honor it, I have done it multiple times. As long as you don't say it was bought 3rd party, they don't ask.

Are you talking about Tmobile or samsung? Because I returned my vibrant that was purchased from a third party and I ended up having to pay full retail for the replacement because they "never got the device"

Your best bet to exchange with t-mobile is through customer care. Tell them you changed your number because thar causes it to shows wrong warranty info that way. Tech is smarter and they'll make sure what number used the inside first.
Theoretically if your similar was the first active similar t-mobile can replace.

I just did this myself... Got my phone brand new in sealed box off Ebay. Just did a warranty exchange with T-mobile (and I got lucky because they were out of stock and sent me a BRAND NEW IN BOX March 20, 2012 phone!!!).
So yea, go through T-mobile. Don't ask for a warranty exchange, call and go through tech support and tell them your phone's buttons are not working properly. Do the steps with them and then they willl eventually get to the part in the script about the warranty exchange.
They didn't ask me any questions at all about where I bought my phone. I was worried also but I ended up finding a lot of people that did this successfully.

This, except his wordchoices are questionable lol. Warranty doesn't seem to transfer from one number to another unless it's within the same family line. However that is usually not the case. There are times when it does transfer over. Not sure why... Stupid system.
The reps can only see if your warranty is valid, if not they need permission from a supervisor to bypass any authorization. So be nice to your rep and they'll help you out. You can tell them i just bought it so and do date, i even have the box but can't find my receipt should i send you the picture of the box? reps usually just say no you don't have to and see what they can do. Ymmv

Sealed off ebay is fine. As long as your number is the first phone to activate it, warranty should be valid for a year.

I just sent my phone to Samsung earlier today. I brought my phone off ebay and the screen stopped working (the phone turns works, but the screen wasn't working at all, and it showed a greenish color instead of what's suppose to be on the screen). I talked to their online CS Reps and after we couldn't fix it she filed the service claim for me AND they paid for 2nd day air (which they don't usually do). So, just go with Samsung support if you have doubts.
Ironically, my phone broke the morning after the Skyrockets ICS was leaked, and I didn't even get to flash it after the Devs here ported it =(
I have gotten multiple warranty replacements from tmobile for phones I purchased used.

I did not think Ebay was an authorized seller.
Is there any service charge with Samsung for warranty work?
Also, would I be correct assuming I would have to ship my phone out first and wait for a replacement with Samsung?

Yeah you have to ship your phone and wait for it to come back.
That is the advantage of going through T-mobile....you get your new phone first before sending in your old one.

I told them the truth, because something really did happen to my screen.. If it has something to do with bricking your phone from flashing, just say an OTA or Kies update happened and your phone didn't come on... otherwise just tell the truth, unless it voids your warrenty.
I bought it in December from Expansys and I live in California in the U.S. and I'm sure I still have my warranty. I'm getting lots of banding and gradient lines and it's starting to bug me and get worse. I know there is a great chance the next Nexus will do it too. So how would I go about replacing my phone for a new one? Also, will it be brand new or some refurbed BS if anyone has any experience with exchanges.

Well... I would recommend going to expansys.com or your confirmation email and checking with them how to go about it. It would require you to send your phone in, and the turn around could be around two weeks.
Same here. Called Expansys, they told me to.send it to them so they can send it to samsunf . Only problem is 6-8 WEEK for the return of the phone!
You could try contacting samsung directly as this would probably fall within the manufacturer's warranty although I don't know if samsung services gsm nexus in the US.

OP, you may be able to contact Samsung US about buying the replacement part or paying for the work to be done, but you won't be getting free warranty work done by anyone.

I have the same problem as OP and am willing to pay. I've called multiple "authorized" Samsung repair centers where I live in Austin and none of them are willing to fix it. Like the OP, I called Samsung USA who referred me to Samsung UK. Both are unwilling to accept the phone for repair even though I'm willing to pay. Does anybody know of a repair shop that might do this type of work? At this point I'm willing to try anything to save from buying another GN.

Not to be rude, but it was 100% known at the time the phone came out that you wouldn't get a warranty with your purchase when buying grey market. Next time you want to buy an international phone, buy it from a reputable importer that will handle international warranty claims.
We shouldn't have to worry about this with the next Nexus, as it'll surely launch right from the start in the Play Store.
Its not that I was willing to pay for the repair it just they wasn't willing to help me at all ..beside the phone is made by Samsung money goes to one pocket..why not fix it and have me pay for the repair

Because you didn't buy it from Samsung US, you bought it grey market from someone else. You don't get a warranty from "Samsung", unfortunately. You only get a warranty from the area you bought it, assuming you bought it legitimately (no one importing did, technically).

I think the bigger problem here is not having anyone to help even if the customer is willing to pay. I am having an international phone too with many problems now but not a single person is willing to service it in America. If anyone could let me know of some service centres then that would be much appreciated.

im who manbearpig and many other xda members have sent their phones.... i guarantee it will look new and work perfectly... no flashing bs... i hate to tell whoever thinks flashing fixed a broken sim pin but they shouldnt be trying to repair anything...
